i wanna know the same. i personally dont like cwm
sooooo true.. TWRP is sooooo much better than CWM I think.. the Devs might have the real reasons to tell to us
It depend on the kernel most older kernels were before the twrp was made new kernels have twrp
Its becouse most roms for play has kernel based on cm's one, and cm has built in cwm not twrp. Newer version of ie slim or omni has twrp as default recovery
So guys after possessing this beauty for more than 6 months, today i rooted it and got CWM installed through Freegee. Kindly suggest a few awesome roms. I have an Indian e988. And do i need to take any special precautions? I have done a cwm backup also.
In which roms do i need to flash modem and how.
Kindly give links for accessories flashing also.
Thanks.
One more thing: do i have a lokified cwm now?
FreeGee installs lokified CWM....
Most of the CM based rooms are pretty sweet. I prefer stock based. The G2V5 Rom is pretty bad ass....
Curently I'm running the Panama Rom with xposed framework and gravity box module.
And loving it.
"Klaatu Barada Nikto"
I've tried them all I'd have to say vanir is the all around best. Lotsa features best battery etc. Liquid smooth is pretty good and anything oblikas worked on was solid When I ran them but since vanir got DD ready with their 4.3 I've been running it exclusively. I'm currently running their 4.4.2 nightlies and strongly reccomend it.

That is a very personal type question. Do you like how the stock interface is? That is Touch-Wiz. There are a few ROMs based on that. However, if you like the true Android interface, with some nice additions, you can try Cyanogenmod. I am on CM 11 m12 with no issues.
If you go into the Android Development section of this forum you will find the ROMs listed. Usually the threads will have attached photos or links to the releases' websites so you can make an informed decision.

I am fairly certain Cyanogenmod will release there CM12 (Lollipop) for SGS3. Not sure if there will be a stock version..all depends on your carrier and how much money they want to throw at our aging device.
A couple to try

There is a CM version of Lollipop (only in alpha stage right now-means not everything working , buggy).
Here's a couple to try, very good, stable, great battery life, no bugs, lots of customization available:
Wicked-X v8.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2750674
Tribute v2.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2768483
Support for questions is excellent.
First decision you need to make is "What do you want to do with the phone?"
Suggest using Philz recovery for flashing, backing up, etc. See it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446393
Hope this helps.

I want a stable reliable phone for daily use both personal and work related, with good battery life and power to run some games ow and then without freezing maybe retro emulators.
Wicked X has around 4 or 5 THOUSAND dls with lots of customizability and stability.
Tribute is a simple and stable dd. The stock ROM by CNexus is a good dd too. I'm not sure about aosp ROMs though. I've read good things about PAC ROM and CM11. Basically you'll just need to flash and experiment.
Edit: I forgot to mention Dark Droid and Conquest Singularity. They are prety great also.
No longer being developed

The only reason I didn't mention Dark Droid and Conquest Singularity is they are no longer being developed. (At least the last time I checked). Still good choices but may still have some niggles in them.
CM11 Snapshot M12 is the latest SGS3 and very stable.
I don't run any games. Graphene ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-sprint/development/rom-graphenerom-t2893200 is very good on battery (well over two days on 1 charge)

I really like Carbon. It's based off of CyanogenMod and brings in source code from a bunch of others like Omni.
Good luck finding one. happy flashing
Me, too!!

I have been running Carbon ROM nightly now for over a week. Battery life is exceptional. No issues to report. Wifi and 4GLTE working fine. I'm on Sprint.

yeah, the battery is exemplary. It's even better, now that I flashed BMS Kernel and use DS battery saver to prevent wakelocks. I won't drop more than two or three percent while at work for 10 hours.

When I flash CWM Recovery or TWRP Recovery after reboot goes back to Stock Recovery.

Try un checking the reboot option in Odin when you flash the recovery. You are Not supposed to let it reboot. It will override the recovery. Just pull the battery out, put It back in then boot into custom recovery wipe data, dalvik, cache and now flash your pre rooted custom Rom. Then reboot system.
Have a great day! from my LG G3

I was able to install even with "Auto Reboot" selected in ODiN 3.07
I have TWRP 2.8.1.0-d2spr recovery on my Sprint SIII
I installed it using the flashable TAR file with "Odin 3.07" program
-Download and install SAMSUNG USB DRIVERS
-Download TWRP TAR file
-Download "Odin" program
-Right click on "Odin" program and click on "run as administrator".
-Turn off your phone.
-Press and hold VOLUME DOWN button + HOME BUTTON + POWER BUTTON on your S3
-You will see a Warning, Press the VOLUME UP BUTTON to continue
-Plug your USB cord into your S3
-ODIN will recognize your S3
-Select the box next to the PDA block in ODiN
-click on "PDA" button in ODiN
-Look for your recovery TAR file
-Click Start
-profit
Been following TWRP thread under Sprint Galaxy Note II forum as TWRP HAD been my recovery of choice. Switched over to Philz 6.07.9 because there were some compatability issues previous. Philz seem to be stable and worked well backing up and restoring Community 1.1 (Android 4.4.2). Can someone recommend a version of TWRP that is as stable as the Philz version I am using? I still prefer TWRP. Looking for basic recovery functions that are bulletproof.. backup, restore, clean everything before flashing new rom, renaming backup name at time of backup for my current 4.4.2 and future 5.x AOSP roms. Thanks!
I thought most recommended version is 2.6.3.0.
No idea if it has the bells and whistles you want, but as far as stability, I thought this is it.

Hmm.. have you used that version on TW as well as AOSP roms (backup AND restored successfully?)
I've read stuff saying that I should use the latest version of TWRP when loading lollypop roms.
I have copies of 2.6.0.1, 2.6.3.0, 2.6.3.1, 2.7.1.1, 2.7.2.1, 2.8.0.0. I believe I have tried 2.6.0.1, 2.6.3.0 as well as 2.8.0.0.. and to some extent.. have had some issues with them. I am back to my philz 6.07.9. That one seem the most 'compatible' for me.
At this point.. I'm just staying on Community beta 1.1 and philz 6.07.9. I was messing with CM 12.1 nightlies and have now stopped because Community beta 1.1 just works and very stable for me.
Haven't given up on TWRP because there are a few very nice features in it I like.. was hoping to hear other's opinions and experiences. Hadn't had much responses unfortunately.

Used TWRP 2.6.3.0 on all prior versions of rooted TW stock, up until probably the Slim ROM I ran (AOSP) for awhile. But that was about a year ago, maybe. Since then, been running Philz since it came out/was highly recommended around here.
Device is over two years old. I wouldn't expect too much feedback for it any more. Just the way it is. Note 3, then 4 has been out for how long now... know what I mean?
I'm still running 4.4.2 and am very happy with the device. I see no reason to upgrade for my needs and the power it still delivers.

I'll go back and try 2.6.3.0 again .. and I agree with you regarding the robustness of the Note 2. Really the only thing I miss compared to the new 'flagships' is probably better camera hardware.. got enough cpu for me.. I got a 128gb microsd card.. and average 1 1/2 days battery life the way I use the phone. Until the next breakthru on phones... I will be keeping my Note 2 for the foreseeable future.
I own a high end tablet SM-T807P. Very popular tablet, best one I've had. I am requesting an custom rom like cm12 and an official twrp recovery. Is it possible a dev may make one. I am sure that the tablet community will appreciate it. Like to run something different than the stock rooted rom. All the other tablets high end tablets have custom Roms and recoveries.
Even though you've mistakenly posted in the development section, you will find my build of twrp below :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...wrp-twrp-2-8-5-0-recovery-snapdragon-t3055758
EDIT: Can I ask why you are asking again for TWRP when you already have the version above? :what:
