I know we all love our cappy's (well most of us) however i was starting to get a little bored with mine and was debating on getting a new android phone - something with a faster processor / flash / better camera / + more features but with the things i love about the captivate so i was thinking of jumping over to the SGII or Atrix 2...while digging around i found the Samsung Captivate Slide !!!.. I love the whole slide out keyboard and all of the specs so i think im going to wait out to get this phone now kind of excited =] !!
Here's a link i found already announced by Samsung so hopefully they give out a release date....Besides that would anybody have any other recommendations for a phone i should get since my intrest in the cappy is dying out ???
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I927ZKAATT
Plus the slide its already running gingerbread ! atnt is finally starting to kick up their android game
LOL link saysCaptivate GLIDE G S same crap different letter
i927... comes with gingerbread 2.3 hmmm wonder if it will be portable to i897 ? it would probably get ICS eventually...
DAMN IT... what have i just said?? ive become one of..... THEM!
I dunno, I see no similarity between this and the original Captivate. All the great things about the captivate aren't in this device. For instance, the captivate was the nicest style of all the original Galaxy S phones, with the metal plating back and original styling.
Its nice that it has the keyboard, although it looks like a relatively unoriginal phone otherwise. I wonder if it comes with the bad GPS like our original captivates.
I'm looking to replace my captivate because the bad GPS and bad camera (I have one of the original captivates with serious issues..haha), but I personally am more interested in the SGS II or the new Galaxy Nexus if it comes out on AT&T.

Looks like it is running a Tegra, makes porting a bit difficult.
how long until your iphone friends are referring to your phone as the "camel toe slide"
the GSIII and Note both look outstanding as far as a standalone device.
The most interesting concept i have seen is a hybrid phone the converts to the tablet that Asus will be releasing:

Hi guys,
I sold my S2 because the screen was broken but now I'm thinking about buy another one.
My doubt is, should I buy another SII or instead go for the Gnexus?
SII - > 250€
Galaxy Nexus -> 275€
Both are new phones and I have the chance to buy for a great price.
I know many of you will say "go for Nexus 4" but it isn't coming to Portugal soon and I need a phone ASAP (nexus 4 is out of stock 4 life).
I know pros and cons of both, but they look very similar and my kind of use fits the both.
My question is, with these prices, which phone would you go?

In my opinion you should try Galaxy Nexus, like I did. I had S2 over 13 month. In short words:
Design = GNexus
Screen = Gnexus
Android = Gnexus
Louder speaker = S2
Funny fact: in Poland new Gnexus is cheaper than S2
And what about:
GPU - S2
Radio - S2
Camera - S2
Tricky decision!

S2 will not be supported a lot anymore but if you get galaxy nexus, you'll at least get the next Android. Also the development on this phone is just crazy. In my opinion, galaxy nexus is a much better phone for 25 extra pound.

Not a decision at all. 1280x720 display is infinitely better than 800 x 480.
That's true, S2 has just received its first leak of JB 2 weeks ago, I believe you guys already have it for months! And if you have a custom rom installed, and another official version comes out, you directly install it over the custom rom? Or the developer updates it to the last official version?
But development is very good in S2 foruns, very good dev's there.
And what about the size, it feels good in hand? For sms, I use T9, is easy to write?
I believe I'm getting a Nexus.

Good choice. You won't be sorry. Feels great in the hand, there are only a few things that feel better
Why not?

I had an S II for about 12 months then sold it and bought a GNex. My main reason was "updates" as I could not bear anymore sticking to ICS while JB and whatever comes after is probably going for GNex although both of them have the same price.
I think the S II has better hardware in CPU and GPU, but I really did not find much of a difference practically as GNex is really smooth on JB. I did not use it on ICS but seems it was not as smooth as it is now on JB, so probably it does not matter having faster CPU and GPU as long as you are able to run the latest android which is always more optimized than the previous versions thus running smoothly
I really hated TouchWiz and the Vanilla stock experience is really enjoyable for me!
Loud speakers are not an issue for me especially after installing a mod which requires root of course and can be found in the Themes and Apps section.
So I doubt you will really regret switching to a GNex especially after using the S II so a change should be welcomed
Good Luck
Btw, I saw that gnexus doesn't has toggles, is there a option to enable it? Or it exists in custom roms?
Custom ROMs
Galaxy nexus has curved glass. These wins everything.

What does it mean? Why is it so good?
Gnex for sure. The development is much better, and the choices of custom roms is overwhelming. Definitely worth the extra money.

wowowow hold on a sec. I'm portuguese too, where did you get those prices? I have only seen 329 for the GNex and 400 for the SII.
i had the tmobile s2 which had the s3 cpu and that phone was laggy as hell and the phone looked like crap with the resolution it has. every icon looks so damn big and ugly. playing games on it even looked like crap. the only thing the s2 has over the gnex is the micro sd card slot. i really wish i had one on my gnex. lol plus you know you will always get the last android updates with the galaxy nexus and it runs pretty damn smooth for an older phone with old hardware in it.

ok (escreve em inglês neste forum).
IMO, the Nexus is really better. I will get it in Christmas probably.
Why the Nexus wins:
-Started to be sold later and will get all the Google updates (and custom ROMs more than the SII);
-Curved screen, IMO this is an awesome design (never saw any phone like this);
-Higher resolution and screen;
-IMO the GPU is better;
Why the SII wins:
-Super AMOLED Plus screen;
-Gorilla Glass (altough reviews say that it doesn't make a difference on the Nexus;
-SD Card support;
-Camera;
Other notes:
-Same processor;
-Both have NFC;
-Nexus battery is a bit bigger, but almost the same.
The support for the Nexus should be all you need.

I know it's virtually impossible but again its xda.
Is it possible to have 4.2 or 4.2.1 with s pen integration.
I know s pen works on touchwiz but I know there is no 4.2 touchwiz yet and it ain't gonna be before march I guess.
So is it possible ? Everyone I come across wants to see what s pen can do.
Even if I ignore them, my lil sis is obsessed with s pen and drawing.
Maybe s note and paper artist be portable to cm10.1 or whatever but multi window and air view... I sorta like it.

I think it's more of a driver thing. You can use a completely different launcher (no touchwiz) and still have the spen working instead of having to use your finger. I don't see why you can't port the driver over. It's a digitizer thing. Please correct me if I'm wrong people with more experience than me.
Launcher and 4.2 are different. I mainly want multi user

Hi there guys i was going through the thread about the samsung galaxy tab series not having a keyboard and how samsung has withdrawn their keyboard dock. So now i am working on a project to get produce something similar to that for the samsung galaxy tab series.
I want to know your opinions, lets make this come to life not just some thing we want and cant have :good::good:
I took some time to create a mock up which didn't charge my device but totally working and comes with 2 otg USB port.
Needs a track pad.

That will be implemented in the end product .
Will the keyboard also be able to incline tablet at different angles? And close perfectly like a asus combo does?
If u can make it.. I promise to buy it.
Thanks for taking the initiative.

Thanks i will try and make it cant say the cost price but looking at about 100-120 pound.
it will, also thinking of implementing a rotating hinge like that in the hp touch smart laptops for the galaxy note version.
And i also noticed the different samsung tablets 10.1 has varying dimensions have to get a standard dimension to meet them all
And taking up a notch a illuminated keyboard. How cool will that be
Would it be possible to have an integrated battery also?
Regards
Jack

Yes it will have a battery of its own.
more of the same
I've returned two keyboards for my Note in the past week and they had similar "flaws" :
- When the tablet is on the keyboard, the charging cable can't be in place so you can't charge the tablet.
- One of the reasons I got the Note was because I use handwritten notes for my meetings throughout the day - the keyboard has to get comfortably out of the way when I want to write on the table.
- The tablet's 30 pin port needs to be accessible when the keyboard/case is closed.
Almost all of that is satisfied by mimicking the Asus design for the Transformer series, except for the keyboard getting out of the way for handwriting. A Swivel hinge like on the Thinkpad Twist would solve this
That aside, you're on the right track. The features I miss most from the Transformer pad is how it folds shut so neatly, charges the tablet and runs off of its own power. Also it looks damn sexy.
Good luck with your build and I can't wait to see what you accomplish.
A keyboard that has illuminated lights, has a built in battery, HDMI and USB support needed. Ethernet port if possible
As long as it closes the lid as well like a laptop.
Then yeah that would be cool, wouldn't mind paying a bit more for those.
I hope the 100-120 pounds includes international shipping
Also, if you can create TPU keyboard protectors for it then that'd be awesome (unlike those cheap silicon ones)
Subscribed. Been looking for this exact concept for my 10.1.

Keep it up!
I would love to have one of those!
Please do not make compromises in quality!
I could life without trackpad, if the keyboard is of decent quality (i.e. Logitech/Zagg Keyboard stand or Samsung Keyboard folio for the Tab10.1N)
The rotation feature would be awesome too!
Looking at the whole dev in Linux ports lately your keyboard will get a sales hit, as it would turn our tab in a kind of convertible ultrabook!
It's a great idea. If you get it, i will be a future owner.
Same here

You're saying that you're product would be for the Galaxy Tab series. I am a new Note 10.1 owner and haven't done a lot of reading but it's my impression that the design of the tab vs the note would make this product incompatible. Is this not the case?

Welcome to the Note 10.1 club. When i say galaxy tab i mean the 10.1 tablets and the note 10.1 is part of that family. They share thesame connector (30pin) thereby making it compatible with samsung and other upcoming tablets

Thanks for the response. Good info. I guess the only concern would be that it would fit the dimensions as I've read that there are variations. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hey Guys,
So i was looking at Skinomi's website today and aparently they already have the accessories for the Note III, yes the note 3 in stock. Here is the link to the webpage: http://www.skinomi.com/saganoiii.html
Link II: http://www.skinomi.com/sk13203-samsung-galaxy-note-iii-screen-protector.html
If this is true can this mean the Note 3 has its design already finalized? The thumbnail photo makes it look very close to s4 but bigger. Whats your opinions?
hello,
I'm not really sure, it looks like a s4 and by far not obvious to make a difference.
the picture is too small.
Looks like the note 2 in the pic right?? Expect a thinner bezel ..... Can't wait till September 4th!!!
rooted,recovered,and rebooted from the ol' i777.......
