Hi.
I have had my M8 for a month.
Two days ago, I discovered in the morning that I could not make any calls, and that no one could call me. SMS did not work too.
Disabled 4G, and was back again. So I guessed it was just my phone company having problems with their 4G service, since 3G worked fine.
Tried several timnes after that to enable 4G, but everytime I got no signal bar.
This morning it got worse:
Now 2G and 3G doesn work either.
The strange thing about this "new" status, is that I have full signal. Data traffic works. So internet stuff works fine, but SMS and Voice does not work.
Called my phone company, and they checked their service in the area pluss they also checked my acount, without finding any errors.
They are saying that the error has to be on my phone.
I have booted the phone, reinstalled the SIM, but still the same status.
I also shoud mention that I am running the latest stock SW rom,
I am starting to wounder if I have a HW error on my phone?
Any sugestions on how to fix this?

So i rooted my phone over a week ago, and tried out many different roms. Everything was going fine, until i noticed yesterday that i kept losing voice and data connection. I tried updating to the latest radio which was out today 5.09.00.20, but still have the issue.
The only workaround i've found so far is to set the network mode to GSM only. But obviously it's not very practical for a phone like the desire. When i have it on GSM/WCDMA Auto, it keeps voice and data on for about a minute, then i lose it. And when it's on, i still can't make any calls. But i can make and receive calls fine on GSM only.
Anybody have a clue what's going on here? I tried calling T-Mobile, but they were as useless as always. Apparently there was an issue on the 29th, which is now resolved, and they refreshed something on my profile. So i dunno if rooting/flashing my Desire has caused this or if it's some network outage.
I'm currently running the latest DeFrost rom. I've tried SenseFroyo (Opendesire), LeeDroid & i'm now running the official 2.2 sense rom.
I've also been having problems when connected via 3G for the past few days, but only when I'm at home (so I think it's a specific cell). The signal indicator shows a good signal but attempting to use the internet over 3G just times out, and my voice calls keep getting dropped.
Like you I can work around the problems by switching to GSM only.
I think it might not be a problem with my phone though, because I've tried putting my SIM card in my Nokia N95 and the internet doesn't work over 3G on that either (internet works using GSM on N95). I did manage to make a call on my N95 when my Desire was dropping both incoming and outgoing calls within seconds though.
Weird! I'm going to give it a few days and report it to T-Mobile if it's still happening.
It's fixed for me now. I guess it was a network outage
Hi all,
I got my Desire from the British carrier "Three" last April when it came out. It was stocked with Android 2.1 but the phone was unbranded and not locked so making life much easier.
I rooted the phone weeks later and flashed a number of various roms and radios (usually newest ones recommended by rom developers) and just played around with them. No problems ever occured and everything went smooth.
However a while ago (about 4 weeks I would say) strange thing happened: when the carrier 3 does not gave 3G coverage it usually switches to other network's 2G roaming service. It is also possible to switch to 2G permanently by forcing it via phone settings. It stopped working in Central London for me while still worked elsewhere (very strange) so I had to rely only on 3G service. I thought it was a network issue at first but now I'm not sure.
Later (or at least so I noticed) the connectivity started fooling around: even when standstill (i.e. NOT in a train, bus etc.) and staying at home the network connectivity just disappears all of a sudden. Sometimes it comes back by itself and sometimes I just do it manually via netowking settings. This is much more common when on the move (i.e. on the train etc. even though it never used to happen before). Moreover, sometimes while manually searching for network it says "your sim would not allow to connect to this network" even though I try to connect to the correct one. Instead I switch "WCDMA only" and "WCDMA/GSM auto" options and connection comes back by itself. Then it disappears again after a while. Even more strangely, connection does not disappear if I am talking on the phone with someone but in other situations (such as browsing internet) it just disappears and I see no bars in network reception indicator and cannot connect to internet or make phone calls.
I know 3 has a reputation (deserved or not) of having "bad" network but I don't think this has anything to do with that. My Desire used to work fine before and never had such problems (except in specific spots which have bad coverage). Moreover, I have another old phone and it works fine without any problems with networking while the Desire messes around. I am sure it has either to do with firmware or, worse, hardware.
I have tried a number of roms, radios and settings and it's the same thing all over.
If nothing works is there a way I can still bring it to warranty service after flashing "unrooted" stock rom if there is one available? I'm so frustrated because I have no idea why this is happening.
Its because three have switched off 2g roaming I have the same problem. Search Google
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
My s3 randomly loses connection to the network. Today I picked up my phone to make a call and noticed it was not connected to the network and displayed Emergency call only message.
This happened a few times before too. Initially, I thought it could be a buggy sim so I got a brand new sim from telus. But its still does it. Randomly though. Any thoughts guys?
Anyone?
I haven't really noticed any issues, but I'm on AT&T. What ROM/firmware/modem?
I had similar problems till i disabled LTE. It was trying to connect to it all the time plus it was killing battery.
me and my brother have had the issue in dowtown ottawa on rogers. seems fine in my apt in the market but on a patio and at a restaurant it just wouldnt work!! couldnt send texts, or receive, couldnt call, sometimes it showed i had full bars and lte but couldnt do anything. my brother complained about this the day before. i will try disabling lte next time
For about a week now my phone has been showing no bars and is always looking for service however I am still able to use data with the WiFi off. Text and phone calls do not work. Went into verizon they reset my signal ad gave me a new sim card and still nothing. Service is good where I am. They would have replaced the phone if I was still under warranty. Weird thing, when I'm connected to wifi, the mobile network state is disconnected and when wifi is off it changes to disconnected. Don't know if that is significant, but is there anything I can do or Is the phone broken?
If toy have a back up of your eds that's going to be your best bet
Had the same problem. Called Verizon tech support they ran a couple test and then signed me up for extended warranty and sent me a new phone. It could be worth a try.
The wifi and 3g data connection on my Galaxy Nexus are not working, even though they are connected. At the top right, the WiFi and 3G icon/bars are both grey (they should be blue when working correctly).
I can make phone calls; I can also send and receive SMS (however, any SMS that I send are not actually saved on my phone). But anything involving data (i.e. using BBC news app, checking emails) will not work.
I tried turning off wifi, but 3G won't work. I tried turning off 3G, but wifi won't work. I tried removing battery and sim card, but still nothing. I tried turning on/off airplane mode but, again, nothing
I tried factory reset.... and wifi and 3g data started working again properly. But a few hours later... it stopped working.
I don't even have a ton of apps on this phone; I really only use it to make phone calls and to do text messaging.
Try custom software.
It sounds like it isn't a hardware issue since it was resolved after you factory resetted.
What are you currently running?
