M8 Versions - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am getting a Sprint M8 today and I was looking around trying to find an absolute answer but have not. Are all M8 variants able to run the same ROMs?

Obviously not without some extra effort and work since most will focus on GSM devices and not CDMA(Sprint and Verizon). Here is a list of ROMs in the Sprint section.

No love for VZW variants?

I'm not ranting or anything and I understand that Verizon has most of its phones locked down quite well. But with the M8VZW being completely unlocked and rooted, how come there are considerably less devs working with it vs its GSM cousin? Are GSM variants just plain easier to develop for?

Yes.
Also many more GSM users than CDMA users.

what is the difference between m8 models?

hello guys
im planning to buy htc m8 from a guy, the phone has verizon brand on it and the question is: is there any difference between the international m8 and verizon one? and can i flash the official's one rom on the verizon's one? and in general, is there any hardware or sofware difference?
The Verizon and Sprint models are different hardware, due to the CDMA (plus GSM) radio. All the GSM versions of the M8 are essentially the same hardware, but the CDMA versions are the exception. Trying to flash GSM software onto the Verizon version won't work, and might even brick the phone. I'd stay away from the Verizon version, unless you happen to need CDMA (not likely in most parts of the world outside the US).

[Q] ROMs from general forum vs. variant specific forum

I just got my T-Mobile variant m8 and had been sticking to the rather limited rom selection in my variants forum, but I discovered the general HTC One_m8 forum had tons of roms that supported GSM and CDMA phones. I'm feeling a bit confused, since any phone I've had previously never had been on multiple carriers. If a rom in the general android development section says it supports gsm variants ( using my brain when selecting, of course), will I be able to just change APNs to make it work with my network?
Apologies for noobiness, I'm just finding the world of roms again after my last phone had none.

Its not a stupid question, by any means. And the answer is not simple either.
Any ROM intended for GSM versions of the M8 should be safe to flash, and will for the most part work (and if fact may work perfectly). The hardware for all GSM versions is essentially identical aside from cosmetic differences.
However, some folks have gotten slower data speeds on ROMs not intended for their carrier. In particular, I've seen this mentioned by some folks using "international" based ROMs on the AT&T version. Your mileage may vary, and it might not be an issue for you. I don't want to discourage you from using any particular ROMs; but just want you to be aware.
Flashing the most recent radio for your carrier may or may not help, and is probably the smart move. s-off required to flash a radio manually, alternately can be installed by official OTA or RUU, and your phone may already be up to date.
In any case, stay away from ROMs intended for the CDMA versions of the M8 (Verizon, Sprint) as the hardware is actually different, and I've seen folks brick from accidentally flashing things meant for the wrong hardware version M8 (CDMA vs. GSM).

Thank you redpoint, that helps a lot actually.

Are those 2 things mutually exclusive?
Yes, that was me. I was on that forum a lot and maintained the Index thread.

[Q] Q about LTE bands

Hi, I am wondering if it's possible to enable all LTE bands on a developer edition M9 (or a s-off, rooted M9) with some sort of hack. My current phone is HTC rezound with M9 (retailed from verizon) on its way, and I am quite off with the phone technologies nowaway.

Not sure what bands you need or want to do....but this thread from the verizon M8 might be useful.....obviously you may have to do things a little differently but I would presume the process would be somewhat the same (once you are S-Off)

Thanks for the quick reply. That helps to clear my confusion somewhat but I think I've asked the wrong question. Please read the new thread... sorry don't mean to flood the forum...

Htc 10 variants

Hello XDA,
I have searched for a little while now and it sort of seems like I am one of few tmobile users in here so I'm gonna ask. What is the difference between my tmobile variant and the international? I have noticed XDA has only included Verizon/Sprint/Int'l sub forums. So does this mean my tmo variant is the same as the intl hardware wise? I dont see any developers using the tmobile as a base and all current roms seem to support tmobile just fine which leads me to believe this.
BTW I googled the crap out of HTC 10 variants and got nowhere
Seems like tmobile hasnt given the HTC 10 any update love yet, which doesn't surprise me at all.
