[Q] XBMC Hogging all my space HELP! - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im running XBMC 13 and tried relocating the app with per instructions on this site however it doesnt use the data/obb directories. How do I change the profile path/directory in XBMC to point it to the stickmount mounted drive. I know this will solve alot of users problems as XBMC can be a space hog on the Fire TV? Thanks in advance

Very close but not what I was looking for. Ideally I want to redirect addons directory, userdata,addon_data directory only. Some addons use alot of space in their own addon folders and make it difficult to manage. Thanks in advance

..

Try moving your thumbnail folder

The thumbnails folder in userdata takes up the most memory. That is unless you've downloaded metadata packs which can be 2GB and are located in the metahandler folder under addon data in your userdata folder. I've solved all of my storage issues by relocating metadata and/or the thumbnails folder.

Has anyone successfully moved the XBMC with stickmount and folder mount, and only use the external drive for storage in XBMC?

XBMC data on external storage slow read/write

I haven't but I will. Keep in mind XBMC accesses data constantly. The quickest access is the onboard memory. An external USB drive read/write speed will be much slower for sure.

I just thought of an idea, but idk if it will work. What is someone is able to make a script that would symlink /data or /system (whatever you want) to a usb (formatted ext) that is plugged in. Possibly use Script Manager to run it at boot. Unless someone knows a way to do it directly on the device without an app. That would give you enough space as you would need.

They are run from the location they are downloaded to on the phone. So when you download a file from the App Market it will be stored in the folder, installed and run from said APK. If you move it to SD it moves the file from internal to external. If you uninstall the file if it sits on the phones memory it will automatically delete the file.
Not quite. They are stored on the cache partition. They are not always deleted, but they do not take up app space as the partition size is fixed. And when the space is needed on the cache partition, eventually they are deleted.
Is the cache folder visible to me? What's it called.
I got the problem that, despite all my apps are moved to my SD card, the updates fill up my internal memory. I understood that the updated apps are as well moved to the SD card. This is my default setting as well i
Downloaded apks are gets stored in /data/app. You need ROOT access to locate them. Root Explorer will let you access these files.

Let me make a correction here: installed apps are stored in /data/app (requiring root for write permissions). System apps are stored in /system/app (requiring S-OFF or Recovery mode for write permissions). Downloaded apks are stored in /cache/download, which is why in partition tables, where the cache partition is >5 MB, you should symlink the download folder to a folder in the sdcard, to be able to download apps larger than 5 MB. Otherwise the market will return the error "Insufficient storage available." or something like that.
Not that all of that really matters, seeing as this is a year old thread...

Can you offer any additional info? Have to used Root Explorer or a similar app to confirm without a doubt the files are gone and not just in a different place? And I am slightly confused when you say "move to sd card" because internal storage and SDcard on this phone are the same thing since there is no EXT..
I copyed files as usualy from computer to the nexus
After the copy (I copied the new google apps zip) this zip is ont the storage, but all other 12Go of data in the card are disapeared
I try to find it with windows, root explorer, es file explorer, I tryed android undelet tools and windows undelet tools... noone can see the MTP memory of the nexus .......
And I disabled the upload to picasa..

Do you have fast usb charge enabled? If so, try disabling that.
all files in /sdcard disappeared
The same thing just happened to me. I copied 386MB of music to /sdcard/Music and all appeared to be fine. I used Windows7 x64 Explorer over USB mounted as MTP.
I noticed that I could not copy some files back to Windows from Nexus. After messing around with that for a while I used ES File Explorer to check out /sdcard. Only a few folders were there, as if /sdcard were newly created. I could still see all of the lost folders in Windows Explorer.
Am I screwed?
TIA!
This is from a corrupt MediaStore DB. I ran into something similar when moving files to my phone over WiFi using File Explorer. Afterwards only a handful of folders showed up when connected via USB. Only way to fix it is to reset the DB. Settings > Apps > All > Media Storage > Clear data/cache. Reboot. It should completely rebuild the DB after the boot, and things should show up correctly again.

That did not get all my data back, I must have done something else while trying to fix it. The good news is that this fixed one of my next questions: How do I reset the Google Music album art? The suggestion above fixed that wonderfully.
Thanks!

[Request ] or [ Idea] for USB mass Storage HOMEBREW virtualization app

Hi,
can someone develop app which can create virtual USB mass Storage from some Folder inside the Windows phone device for example "My Documents" ?
Is it possible ?
This app should be homebrew.
Thanks for info.
So, almost. If you install File Browser: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23569940&postcount=4 you get access on device to folder: Storage Card.Next if you used Root Webserver: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459235 you can copy/cut/delete/rename files in that folder on device and you can his see on PC.

My files app>samsungmediahub>contents>folder>sd>avengers movie
You can move it from there to DCIM and you should be able to browse to it in your computer.

Two comments.
1) the .samsungmediahub folder is a hidden folder. If you don't have the ability to see them using the proper file manager, you won't see it. I use ES File Manager and after checking some boxes in the config, it shows up.
2) The resulting files are encoded ASF files that end in a .pyv extension. This is a DRM'ed Microsoft Silverlight PlayReady video file. I'm not aware that you can play it on your PC.

I forgot. You have to open the app, hit the menu soft key and click the box that says show hidden files.

Moved Cached images to a NAS ?

Hello
I found this on Kodi Wiki Page - it that possible on the fire tv ?
and if yes - how is it done ? - i am a totally newbie when i comes to XML files
Move cached images to another drive
Main page: Path substitution
Path substitution is another advancedsettings.xml tag. If you simply need more space for XBMC's files but don't wish to limit the image quality then you can use path subs to relocate the images to another drive. The cached images in the Thumbnails folder takes up the most amount of space of all the different XBMC files, so using pathsubs on that folder alone is often all you need to do. It's even possible to use a network file share path, but it is recommended that you use another local drive, if possible, for performance reasons.
If you have not made an advancedsettings.xml file before, see the example in the above section #Limit the size of cached images.
Note: If you have an existing advancedsettings.xml file, make sure the <pathsubstitution></pathsubstitution> tags are between the main <advancedsettings></advancedsettings> tags.

Should work on the AFTV, but is not really needed anymore in XBMC v13... What are you trying to do?
i would like to move all my thumbnails (fanart) - games, to the nas - to free up some internal memory on my Fire Tv - because you run very fast out of memory/Storage on the Firetv - i have seen that this should be possible on a USB harddrive on an rooted device .. but i thought it maybe would be easier to do it on my NAS but i dont know what i should do to tried this on my NAS
I tried it, problem was thumbnails would take too long to show so slowed browsing xbmc down, but that could also be skin related...
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
I put thumbnails on a share mapped to a SSD which seems to greatly improve responsiveness in many skins.
