accessing recovery after failure - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
i have a galaxy s4 now and from experience if the fone fails to load i can always remove the battery and try a recovery re-entry by pressing the home+volume up+power and presto i am i recovery mode
can anyone enlighten me please what is the similar process in the g3 - i have delayed my purchase several times even after getting a 620 offer for a brand new g3 - great price but need a bit of experience
much appreciate your comments/instructions, i am 70 and although i am handy with gadget going into a new experience blindfolded scares me a bit
thanks again guy

close but no cigar
i read that page before that still does not relive my quizzes, the s4 sometimes hang on the logo and the ONLY way out of that was to remove the battery
Does the lg3 behave similar, (they both have android although the lg3 has a lot less custom roms than the s4 and perhaps not all roms were up to par so that's why the s4 sometimes did not behave well with all roms) as the s4
does the lg hang at the logo (when the s4 did that you could not access the phone to plug it to a pc you had a dead phone - the only was recovery thru power/volumeup/home
again does the lg hang on the logo if it does how do you exit from that trap
thanks

What happens when you do a factory reset? Does it load into CWM?
you can access download mode so you can unbrick your phone
I think its not a hardware problem because you can see the lg logo
If you can access cwm menu , wipe user data and cash , then flash hono stock ics.
Then if the phone startup was successful check the hardware parts via hidden menu in stock roms.

Yes this is the exactly the issue i am facing day by day it gets worst. The whole thing started after flashing CM10 ROM. the small bsod you get leads slowly into this. Guys i took real good care of my phone it never fell down from my hand nor does it have a scratch on it. never over did the flashing part as well, my advice is stick with the stock ICS. My Nitro is game over i bough a new Samsung s3. just a word of advice dont over do your beta flashing. :crying:

happyneser how did u resolve the issue.
Please advice i tried every thing in the book and did not pull though.
You need to check the power IC, and make reballing
I was treated to the service (good repair workshop), they said that one of chips was soldered askew.
I think it one of this - Qualcomm PM8901, PM8058 and PM8?7? I do not know exactly.

Dear Friend,
i believe i am still right the BSOD now a days Laptop are common mostly HP, its Due to the VGA chip being BGA(ball grid array) they are chips with small balls with soldering underneath them used for comm between the chip and the Bord. but went to chip overheats it melts the solder underneath and when it cools back down the solder get solid it a different area(we moving the phone like taking out of pocket or so) which causes lack of communication between chip and board(when they are back solid) it causes BSOD. I believe the Graphic chip in NITRO HD is using the BGA tech(It makes sense) so if our phone overheats too much the chances of De-aligning the solder in the chip is high cousin BSOD. We all know CM10 at the early stages caused overheating while in black screen coursing huge power drain in battery(we have stigmatic data with the help of battery analyst app).
So summer Nitro HD = BGA , CM10= overheating, Overheating=Bad for BGA(Causes BSOD) so overheating Nitro HD causes BSOD there u have it. i case if the phone really overheats while its in your pocket of in a uneven place and the solder goes out of place then you are in trouble like me.
Solution= Re balling or heat gun(temporary) Can FIX it.
So it's pm8028 near mdm9200
I got the same problem last weekend. I woke up and found the screen on and no sound from alarm clock. I checked and the phone got no sound at all.
I restarted the phone and got the gray screen. Late at the day the phone boot again but after another reboot it got the gray screen and never recovered.
I use CM10.1 and wind kernel with no overclock.
Too bad I didn't find any shop that reball the chips so my phone is dead
I got a i9305 today to replace it.
cn you fix the re-ball?

Can you enter recovery mode? If yes, do full wipe then flash your ROM.

Make sure the phone is fully charged before you try to boot it up, if it is fading out after the logo splash screen it either sounds like a dead battery or a badly flashed rom. You can enter into recovery by holding the volume down and pressing and holding the power button till you get prompted to wipe the phone.
I have had a couple of grey screens (or "black" screens) which I was able to recover from, simply by making sure the phone was powered off, then fully charging the battery for 4 hours, then booting into recovery and flashing a different ROM

[Q] problem with Acer Iconia Tab A100

Hello all!
I'm french, sorry for my English, I use google translation :s ..
I have a problem with my Iconia Tab A100, 1 week ago in normal use (no root or another have been made, everything is original, I'm running android ics) it is blocked, then s' is on again .. But it is blocked on the acer logo white x(
The warranty is finished for 3 weeks :'(
So I decided to fix it myself. I tried to put the latest version of ics on a sd card (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591235) and reboot in recovery mode but I get the android logo with a "!" .. When I press the menu button (the house), but the recovery menu appears impossible to select with the power button. Yellow at the bottom, there are inscriptions (see picture)
So I tried apx mode and restore with EUUs (http://vache-android.com/?dir=Tablets/A100 found here). I found my cpuid thanks to this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751978. But when I get the cpuid in EUUs it does not work x(..
My tablet is dead? There is a solution?
thanks!
Emmc is dead, sorry to say. Needs a new board.

Hard to say how much they are, if you get a new one it's more then the tablet is worth getting as a refurb, and used will likely hit the same issue pretty quickly. As it's out of warranty I would suggest selling it for parts and using that money towards something less likely to randomly die. Nexus 7 if no sd isn't a problem, galaxy tab 2, or wait for the next generations of 7" devices which is probably within the next few months.
I'm sure others can chime in on devices to get to replace it.
Tapatalked from my HTC DNA
ok, thank you for your information. I do not think succeed in selling this unit for loose parts passing through a buyer, I must pass by a professional. Could you indicate of sites able to redeem my Iconia?
Otherwise, you know other tablets including Dolby mobile?
thank you!

Potential Brick, Unsure How To Proceed

Hello all.
I am an HTC guy through and through and have never owned a Samsung device. I'm familiar with HTC's S-OFF/HBOOT/bootloader stuff, but I'm not really all that clear on how it works for Samsung devices. I promise I've tried to do some reading before hand before coming to you, including looking at other threads, but they don't seem to be the issue I'm having.
I'm trying to help a friend out who has an AT&T GS3 that I unlocked for him and put an AOSP ROM on it a few months ago (don't worry, I made damn sure it was the AT&T version and no other carrier/international ROM).
He came to me today telling me that his phone suddenly turned off, and was not turning on again. I figure it's probably just a corrupted partition, something that I could fix with a reflash or something like that.
However, when I look at it, it seems to be something potentially worse. The phone did nothing with the battery in, so I took it out and put it back in. The phone very briefly vibrates, the Samsung logo shows for about 1.5 - 2 seconds at most, and then the screen goes dark.
When I try to enter Download Mode, I'm able to get to the custom software "warning" page, where I press Volume Up, and it shows me Download Mode and "Waiting" (as I expect it to) but then the screen just goes black again after about a second or two.
It's roughly the same with Recovery Mode, I can catch a glimpse of what looks like CWM (but I'm not entirely sure) and then the screen goes black.
If I choose to forgo the battery altogether, and I plug it in straight to the wall, the red LED on the top right lights up for again maybe 3 - 4 seconds at most, the light goes away, and the phone briefly vibrates, shows me the Samsung logo, and then goes dark.
I'm confused. I don't know if it's a brick, but then again, to me as an HTC user, "brick" means Qualcomm USB Download mode. I've also read about this infamous Samsung Sudden Death Syndrome that struck some of the 16 GB models that Samsung sold (and yes, you guessed it, this is the white 16GB model).
I don't really know what other troubleshooting options there are (but as I said before, I'm an HTC guy). If any of you have any sort of advice I would love to hear it.
Thank you for your time.
I've seen several users on here in the last few months with this issue. I worked with one of them for awhile trying to get it straightened out but couldn't resolve the problem. Some of that was due to the nature of the problem and some was probably due to the fact I didn't have the phone in my hands to help the new user better. I believe the user was able to get an exchange at an at&t service center. Sorry I can't offer more assistance. Keep us posted if you get a fix.

I appreciate you trying. I know it's such an odd issue that it's really hard to diagnose. I thought perhaps it might have to do with the battery somehow being "bad", but then the problem would be gone when I go AC only.
He's not against the idea of going to AT&T, but I feel bad; I convinced him to unlock and let me flash a new ROM so I feel that I should at least put in a good effort to make sure there's nothing more I can do.
Yeah, the biggest problem is that once you get into recovery or download mode, the device reboots/loops. This eliminates the possibility of any kind of flashing or wiping.
You might have a bad motherboard. If I was you I'd take it to att for a replacement. BTW if he doesn't have insurance for the phone they do have open enrollment , I'd wait a day or two after enrolling to submit a claim.
Wish you the best.

It's a realllly long shot but he could contact mobile tech videos and tell them his issue and see if a jtag repair would help. If it's hardware of course he is out of luck but it's worth a shot and a lot cheaper.

[Q] Is there a chance of unbricking ...?

Hi XDA-Community,
I have the following problem with my Captivate Glide:
I can't switch on the phone in any way (no normal startup, no recovery-mode, no odin/flash-mode).
The only thing telling me that the hardware is not completely broken is
Code:
lsusb
yielding
Code:
Bus 002 Device 011: ID 0955:7f20 NVidia Corp.
So, what did I do to "achieve" this:
I installed the CM 10.1.0 RC2 [30/05/2013] from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217288
I used the phone for approx. half a day.
I connected it to the charger in the evening.
The next day the phone turned out to be bricked when I wanted to switch it on.
I really have no clue what happened, others are running that ROM, too, and they seem to be happy (BTW: I was happy, too, but only for half a day). With earlier versions of the ROM I observed frequent crashes (the phone completely froze and I had to restart it by removing the battery), could this an indicator of some hardware defect? I also have no clue what actually caused these crashes (android, apps, hardware ...), I wanted to take a look into this, but I didn't find time to do this.
My question now is: Is there a chance to unbrick the phone? I read about the low level flash tool nvflash by NVidia, but I also read that it does not work for the glide as Samsung locked the bootloader. I also read that the phone is an unrecoverable brick if the odin/flash-mode could not be reached any more. Is that really true?
So, maybe someone has a hint for me. It would be nice because I actually like that phone.
Anyway, thanks for reading!
Ciao, Fabian

1) Power down the phone and remove the battery.
2) With the battery removed hold the power button for 10 seconds.
3) Re-install the battery
4) While holding the volume up button press the power button, keep holding the volume up button...
You should see a warning screen asking you if you want to continue. This is Odin download mode, if that does not work then there is something seriously wrong with your phone.
Since the flash of the ROM worked for a while, I would suspect that it is not an app / rom issue. This smells like a hardware failure to me. Generally those happen either on very new devices (less than 72 hours of operation) or at the end of life of the device (very old phone). In one case you can claim warranty, in the other it's time for a new phone.
Wish I would have better news but that's what I'm thinking from what you are describing...

The only other thing I can think of is maybe the battery is completely dead... How was the battery holding up the last few days? If it was on it's last leg then it may be worth while getting a cheap battery off ebay to test.

Well, then I think the only purpose of my captivate glide is to increase the totally available surface ... It did not react in any way, thus, it seems to be broken in some non-recoverable way. I don't think it's the battery, I already cross-checked this using a battery of my friend.
Keep up the great work on CM 10.1 - I really liked it!

Sorry for your loss
For some reason it's defaulting to Tegra recovery mode. This could theoretically be used to recover the phone... but there's a catch. Depending on how the fuses are set on the CPU, you may need a device key to talk to the RCM bootloader. If the fuses are set as such, you will need that device key, and acquiring it has never been easy. We certainly don't have it as we've been relying on the openness of Samsung's official bootloader.
More information about recovery mode here, with sample code for talking to the RCM bootloader:
http://http.download.nvidia.com/teg...t-flow.html#_error_handling_and_recovery_mode
If you manage to successfully talk to RCM, let us know what you did. I could very probably use the same technique on a working device (specifically, my Glide) to get you the blobs you need to make your phone work again.

LG G4 NOT stuck in bootloop but not booting past LG logo [goes off]

Hi all, ok tonight/this morning at work while on my break i went to do my usual thing of having food and watching a tv show via cartoon hd about 2mins in and my phone switched off.....now i thought it was dead so plugged in the charger but no led light, or screen on to say its charging.....i did a bit of googling and find out about the bootloop thingy buuuuut mines not looping, its swtiching on to the LG logo [i did the bootloader unlocker thingy etc so it says tha in the top corner] then it goes off.......i also get pulsing blue led lights too.....if i press, hold the power button after i get nothing, i have to take the battery out and then its rinse and repeat
Hi,
Same thing happened to me today. I was taking a shot and it switched off and same scenario. It seems that we had encountered an bootloader brick in which our device enters in some special bootloader mode in which when you connect it to the computer in the device manager it shows up as Qhsusb_bulk. I read the whole internet and there is a similar brick with G3 the guys were able to fix it. Even there is a tutorial on how to do this which I think is applicable to our device. I was able to install the required drivers and etc. but there is one big problem - I followed the guide and came into one serious problem - we need a special mbn file so we can recover our device and the sad thing is nobody on the internet doesn't have it still. There are many people like us who got selfbricked G4 and cannot fix it without this file. Please if somebody can help us please share the file so we can fix our devices. THANK YOU !

on G2 you get security boot error phone is detected as QHUSb_BULK. on G2 the fix was to enter download mode. in G2 vol up then plug usb.
using TOT method and flash tools . flash stock firmware fixed my soft brick.

I have the issue. I don't do anything special but my phone reboot and stuck on lg logo. But now my phone doesn't want to boot. Sometimes he detect when I'm trying to charge it but often not. Yesterday I boot on download mode and recovery but today it's impossible... I think I have some hardware issue ? Or software with the bootloader...
I don't know how to fix that without access to download/recovery mode :crying:
Same here. Sometimes it boots into recovery/download but most of the times it doesn't. It's a hardware problem I think as LG officially confirmed that there were problems during the building proccess of the first G4 series. I don't want to sound bad but soon or later all phones built before october last year will get into bootloop. I was hoping it won't happen to me - I'm very light user with only light standart apps with no games and other heavy stuff, so the problem wasn't caused by overheating by heavy multitasking. Anyway it happened and I'm pretty sure it's harware related but if somebody can provide the tot and mbn files I will be more than happy to try the g2/g3 unbrick method. The main problem is that these files are not available for h815. I found on other forum tot files for other variants than h815 So if somebody have the tot filesfor h815 please share so we can try to unbrick our G4. Thanks!
same thing heppened to my g4 this week. i called lg last night and they agreed to repair it. i'd just gave them a call.
I sent mine for repair today. I hope they will agree to repare it even that it's with unlocked bootloader and with rooted custom rom !!! What you think ? Will I have problems with them because of that ?
Happened with my phone as well. It was rooted so i was hella scared if they didn't accept my phone. But soon they told me phone's motherboard has gone bad and will be replaced. Got my phone with a brand new motherboard after a couple of hours.
P.s. all your data will be gone

So the same problem just happened to my lg H815 with unlocked bootloader, am really f***ed without my phone, gonna call LG UK tomorrow, anything in particular I should say? also looking for solutions I saw many people are starting to have this issue now too - any official comments from LG?
P.S. if you have an LG G4 you should start backing up all your data now
This literally just happened in the last 15 minutes to me as well. Random reboot right after I woke up the phone and now stuck on the LG splash screen. Light user here, never did anything with the phone that would have heavily stressed it physically or computing-wise, so I also concur it's an inevitability for earlier runs of G4 phones.
Luckily, I backed up everything through TWRP last Thursday by chance because I was updating Xposed to the latest version and swapping to a faster 128GB microSDXC. At worst, I might have lost a handful of unimportant text messages.
Not worth the time to try to figure out any cheap fixes myself, I just got done submitting a repair request to LG.
I ordered LG G4 H815 and I hope to not see any kind of these issues
