Rooted my FireTV and in the process it lost the ability to get display output through the HDMI switcher (Monoprice HDX-401TA). Unrooted FireTV worked just fine through the switcher. There are HDCP and DDC related errors in the log. The end result is blank screen when I connect though the switcher, all good if I hook up the monitor direct. I applied tr.apk, supersu, sshftpDaemon, busybox. Pastebins to dmesg output below. Has anyone seen HDCP issues on Android after rooting? Any idea how can I make the switch work again?
Monitor direct on rooted FireTV - works fine: pastebin.com/S2gEy0x6
Monitor through switcher to FireTV - blank screen: pastebin.com/B2frkmtj
I have had the same issues after rooting.
I thought it was a fluke with my receiver at first, but now I'll have to check my logs.

Just as another datapoint, I'm not seeing an issue with the passthrough to my bluray player. I'm able to pass 1080 and either pcm or dolby audio over hdmi. My device is rooted and this has been true for both the older and the current firmware release.
The handshake between the Fire, the player and the TV to get video onscreen takes 15 seconds or so, which isn't exactly fast but is what the various manuals tell me to expect.
Just figured this out
The root of it was a faulty cable. Probably one of the the DDC lines. Gone with replacing the cable. Stay away from the skinny cables!

Hey Guys,
I bought a MHL Adapter from Amazon (original Samsung for Galaxy Nexus).
I connected it to my TV and it didn*t worked. Then I read that you should Reboot the device and let it connected to the output. So I rebooted it and connected it to my Monitor and it worked! But then I tested it on my TV and it didn*t worked. It only shows "640x480" on the Screen and it was black. Can anyone help me?
My Monitor is a 1080p Monitor and my TV is HD ready (1366x768) but shouldn*t it also work on my TV?
I got my MHL adapter from monoprice and it seems to work without having to reboot my phone. Are you sure that's the native resolution of your TV? I've never heard of that resolution for a TV (it's super close to a 16:9 aspect ratio but not all the way there) and I'm not sure what HD ready would mean...
Otherwise it might mean that your phone is putting out HDCP encryption and your "HD ready" TV doesn't support HDCP encryption. If your phone is rooted, you might be able to turn off HDCP...under developer options (HDCP checking). I'm not sure exactly what that setting does, but it might help if you're rooted.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes the Native Resolution is 1366x768 and with HDCP disabled it doensn't work too.
So I checked my MHL adapter with my 1080p TV. It told me that the adapter was spitting out 1280x720p60.
Also looked up HD Ready, which according to wikipedia is supposed to support that 720p resolution.
Really not sure on that one. You're using HDMI, right, as opposed to DVI?
Show box is sideloaded on both my Fire HDX tablet and my Fire TV but it only works on the tablet. When I open it up in Fire TV I can see the list of videos but when I click on them it always states "Video not available". Is there a way to overide this block? It also blocks Bluestacks via my computer.

I'm not familiar with Show box specifically, but a different video app that I sideloaded and was trying in the past thought there was no connection and displayed errors even though the Fire TV was connected via Ethernet. Switching to a wifi connection made the videos play. Just a thought and something to try.
the wifi / wireline support in the firetv is unusual in android devices. More common in emulators and in some phone deployments, though.
There's a slide presentation at http://www.slideshare.net/gxben/elce-2012-dive-into-android-networking-adding-ethernet-connectivity that I think may have some interesting suggestions for how to keep wired connections as sole connections - but wireless support was hardcoded into android as of the time that presentation was written...
the patch referenced in the talks is at https://github.com/gxben/aosp-ethernet for ICS and JB.
This worked for me to trick the Xfinity apps into thinking my wired connection was wifi:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.lemonsqueeze.fakewificonnection
It does need a rooted FireTV and Xposed installed as well.
Enjoy!

changing the title to make this easier to see - I don't know yet but think that Xposed module may be able to help people support quite a few of the apps that are making trouble b/c they want a wireless connection and most of us who can are using ethernet on our firetvs.
Nice find!
Thank you
I'm going to see if this works because i'm having the same problem with Xfinity stating that it can only connect via wifi connections and I'm using the ethernet that's tethered to a USB Pdanet+ connection. I can no longer use Wifi as my mobile provider has blocked it.

Oh no the module has messed up my FireTV
Update: I had to quickly open up Xposed (before getting thrown back to my the Photos menu) and deselect everything in the Fake Wifi Module but Xfinity and Show box. Xfinity works now. I'll check Show Box in a bit. Thanks
--------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately after I installed and checked the lemon fake wifi connection my FireTV box will not let me go into my settings. It keeps on reloading itself or going to photos every time I try to go into the settings menu. How do you uninstall using the cmd prompt?

Uninstall via adb:
Code:
adb uninstall package_name
or use the -k option to keep the apps data and cache:
Code:
adb uninstall -k package_name
You can get the package name by running this on the apk file:
Code:
aapt dump badging /path/to/apk_file
I'm having a different problem with showbox on my fire TV, I side loaded the app and it works it plays the videos fine but the problem I'm having is after playing for so long they start freezing on me. I'm thinking I might need to install a different video player
I use the showbox video player included in the app because it will continuously play episodes. I have not noticed any freezing that you are mentioning, is it high quality, big movies or everything?
i've loaded showbox and tried it with and without the wifi faking module posted and all i get is no internet connection msg. i've used the wifi faking app to use xfinity tv go.

Either plug in a usb mouse or buy droidmote server and install in on the Fire TV and use droidmote client on your android device to control it.

Fire TV Stick & ShowBox
Show box works fine on the Fire TV, but has a lot of buffering issues with the Fire Stick, has anyone else experienced this?
It's pretty much known that aftv has lousy cec support. That's fine but I've almost pin pointed a handshake issue to cec on my bedroom aftv. It's hooked up to an old-ish 1080p tv. I can't find a cec option on the tv itself, like I can in the living room. Basically if the tv starts after aftv is powered on any video I play will have audio cut in & out. I reboot often.
So I'm wondering if I can just disable cec to resolve the issue?
There is one concern...I may some day buy a flirc dongle or new tv. So if I disable it I'd like to be able to reenable it if possible. As incredibly annoying as this bug is, I'd rather tolerate it than break it.
had an issue with the AFTV conflicting with my other cec devices so used this on the hdmi for the AFTV and its all sorted now

Thanks. I'll look into it more. I'm not 100% sure of what this does? Does it basically upgrade the signal?
That may not be the issue here because I've tried higher grade cables. Actually I remember awhile back having handshake issues with Google TV and an older TV set. Customer service actually suggested using a cheap cable ( think 1.0 or 1.1) but that didn't fix it. You've given me a potential fix to look into though. Thanks again.
its and adaptor that removes pin 13 from the HDMI cable making cec on that connection useless but helped with the conflicts i was getting
also if i was to disable the cec on my tv then i would not to be able to you my receiver and sky box so it was the best option for me
i also tried a good decent cable but had no luck with that either

Wow that is a nifty and inexpensive solution.. awesome!
In my searching I also ran upon this adapter - its a tiny bit cheaper and can optionally also be used to transmit IR over the HDMI CEC path

You can download our free trial apk and install it to fire TV, all of sudden, your fire TV is also a Chromecast receiver.
Please refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...p-youmap-chromecast-receiver-android-t3161851
Download this apk: [apk, updated on Jan-17-2016, now version 1.4.0, it will expire on Feb-29-2016]
http://www.youmap.com/YouMapCastReceiver.apk
Instructions: (good for fire TV box and stick)
(1) Enable ADB and USB Debugging - go to Amazon TV, Settings, System, Developer Options > tun on ADB Debugging and USB Debugging
(2) Now, you need to find the ip address of the FireTV device, System > About
(3) Now from another PC, you can use adb command to install the YouMap Chromecast apk.
adb connect your-ip-address-of-firetv
adb install YouMapCastReceiver.apk
(4) reboot fire TV, and it's ready for casting.
Have fun !
Haven't had a chance to try but looking forward to it. I'll edit the post when I do...
Notice no option to buy full version yet. Is there an estimate on what it'll cost?
Update--Sorry. Got some questions right from the start. Usb debugging ejects the usb drive and makes it unusable. Lots of people use an external drive on aftv so this might be a problem.
It works for sure, however, I'm not sure if I'm utilizing it correctly? I was hoping it would mirror my display, but it doesn't appear to, not even if i enable mirroring on aftv. Maybe it's not suppose to...
But, so far the only thing I've gotten it to do is to cast youtube and we can already do that without losing usb functionality. Please correct me if I'm missing something. Thanks.
The USB thing is only one time for installation. Once installed, you don't need USB connection at all. Our app will auto start every time when you boot fire TV.
It can mirror screens, install Google Chromecast app on your device that you want to mirror. Click Screen Mirroring from left side, that's it.

Awesome! Works great BTW. Is it possible to set it up on multiple aftvs and AFTV stick?
yes, you can install it on multiple receivers, you may need to name them differently to differientiate them. Our app has a setting page to specify the name. However, on Fire TV, the setting page won't show up, we are working on a amazon version, that should install directly from Amazon store. it will take some time for that release though.
You can access the Youmap settings page on a Fire TV. From the home page scroll down to Settings, then goto Applications and down to Manage Installed Applications. Then scroll down to Youmap Chromecast Receiver, select it and then select Launch application. That will take you to the Youmap settings.
Ahh, Thanks, darren1. I didn't know that
Its a restriction on all sideloaded apps. they can't be launched straight from the Fire TV home screen. When you release an official version through their appstore anyone purchasing it would be able to launch it from the homescreen.
Well I like it. The chromecast app should be a welcome edition too except I need to reinstall play services. Forgot I had uninstalled it to fix play store crash on launch. But your app is working well. Its more reliable than normal YouTube casting because it doesn't care whether my AFTV is Ethernet, 2.4ghz or 5ghz. Normally I can't connect my phone if its on 2.4 while my AFTV is on 5. Not a lot of time testing but so far lag seems minimal.
It works on my firetv connected straight to router , but it doesnt work on my aftv stick ,complains about port 8008 and uses 8010, but chromecast on my sg3 still doesnt detect it and its on the same network
Sometimes, you need to use google chromecast app Screen Mirroring to search for the device, once it finds the device, it will work. Also try to reboot your router, and on your sending device, try to turn off/on the wifi.
Got play services reinstalled and very impressed with performance and ease of use once its set.
I did have one issue but not sure its related. Both times I used chromecast, my AFTV switched from 5 GHz to 2.4ghz. Doesn't usually drop the signal like that. And it wouldn't normally be an issue but I use mysql and that sometimes won't work properly if all my devices aren't hardwired or on 5ghz.
Do you think this is related to chromecast or should I troubleshoot elsewhere? I know normal screen casting doesn't work for me if the devices are on different frequencies. This one does but wonder if the reason for that is its somehow able to auto change it.
Our youmap receiver does NOT require google play services.
About wifi 2.4 vs 5GHz band, our app does not change that, it uses whatever wifi is currently on. Ethernet is usually much more stable, though.
This works great on my firestick and firetv! Before, I had a few apps that were cast ready (I originally had chromecast) that showed the cast icon. I could no longer cast once I got aftv, the icons didn't even show up in my apps anymore even though I knew it was available. I just watched on my phone only. I dl'd this app to my phone and sideloaded it to my ftvs and ftv via another useful app via my phone. I gave each device a separate name and rebooted. (Oh, and ticked the box to start up with device) Now, my cast icons show up in my favorite apps, and I am able to cast! I am Soo freaken happy!! It also shows both my cast channels.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I noticed in the other thread that it said the app listed would expire today. Since I don't have the play store installed how can I go about getting the paid version or at least continue to use this version?
Will post an update to keep this trial going
The apk has been updated, now expires on August-31-2015.
it fixed the chrome tab mirroring issue, and improved the device discovery. Please give it a try.
Now it works great on the firetv. But tell me please are you planning to bring the app to amazons appstore or how will your licencing work, when you can't install googles playstore on a non-rooted device?
right, the licensing issue is the last thing we are working on for Amazon store. We are checking if Amazon has similar apis as google play app licensing, still no definite answer yet. If Amazon does not provide such api, we can do it ourselves by entering a license key, not the best way.

For some reason we don't understand yet, chrome tab mirroring works only on fire TV box, not on fire TV stick, all other features are same on both.

This is not yet entirely resolved even in 51.1.6.3, unfortunately. I am using an Onkyo receiver and could only get things working again by reverting to 51.1.6.0. For me, at least, going to 1.6.0 did the trick.
I have just spent half a day figuring out why retroarch goes black when trying to play a game. The reason is this hdcp protection that is still present in 5.2.1.1.
I had my aftv connected to a dvi monitor with a hdmi -> dvi connector. Everything worked fine, except retroarch to play games. By chance I plugged it into another monitor with a propper hdmi port, then everything works.

Not sure if this option will help. Should be part of the newest update that began to rollout this week.

Also, maybe there is a system app or service that handles this that you might be able to disable.
