I’m using an origami case with the tablet. The flap unlocks the screen just like it should when I flip it open. When I close it though, it doesn’t lock the screen. Sometime its fine as I’ve set the screen to turn off in 30 seconds. However, I noticed that XBMC keeps the screen on and I end up finding a dead battery the next day because the cover didn’t turn off the screen.
Do I have a faulty sensor? Its not the case because I tried another case/cover and it does the same thing.
Thanks

If the "other" case was the same make and model it doesn't prove much. There have been tons of issues with non-Samsung flip and book covers across multiple device forums. Go to Best Buy and try an official case. If it works it's not your sensor.
bought another case today, this time the poetic slimline. just like the origami case, it auto unlocks the screen when opening, but doesn't auto lock when closing. tried the case on a friends 10.1 2014 and auto locking work so its definitely my tablet and not issues with the case...i'm not sure if its hardware or software as i'm running cleanrom w/ bindroid kernel. any suggestions? its not annoying enough to sent in for a fix since i can simply use the GMD gesture to quickly turn off the screen but its still a mystery to me.
thanks
edit: flashed the bindroid rom and now the tablet auto sleeps and wakes with the cover...i guess it was the software...
Sorry if this was posted before, couldn't find anything about it.
This does not happen everytime I unlock phone but it happens quite a bit. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Settings -> Display -> Block Accidental Touches.
Please check your screen protector
Make sure all sensor of device open
I have that comes every once an awhile. Accidental touch is turn on and the screen protector not covering the sensors.
I have it pop up when I am in the car. It because I have the block accidental touches setting turned on. I don't have a screen protector on. It's a nice feature to have cause on the S7 edge, S8, and S8+, I was always launching some app from accidentally touch the edges. My S9 doesn't do it often only if I pick it up in the car and accidentally touch the edges of the phone.
Yes, this message is just letting you know that it's blocking your touch input (usually when the screen is turning on with something covering the sensor on the front). The S7 would just keep the screen off (therefore preventing accidental touches/screen on's) but the S9 displays this message... which I think it pretty dumb...
I have just received my preordered Tab S4 with keyboard cover, but when I close the keyboard cover it does not turn off the screen. Also when I manually turn off the screen, close the keyboard cover and then open it, it does not turn on the tablet. Is there any setting for this in Settings? Or is this feature not available anymore?
Thx.
Keyboard cover does not have magnetic attachment that enables the auto-unlock... At least, that is already a thing on Tab S3 so it is not a big surprise to me if they ommited the feature on S4 as well.
thank you, this means the keyboard cover is useless for me. I tried with magnet and it does have magnetic response on the keyboard cover edge and also on the tablet edge, so I don't understand why it's not shutting down the tablet screen.
Curious if the standard cover has that type of support then.

I would suspect that if the keyboard cover can't do it the regular one won't do it either. As long as you don't have the screen time out value too high on the tablet, I don't see what the problem is. Mine is set to 1 minute and that works just fine for me.

the problem is that I had previous tablet S3 with regular book cover and was used to grabbing my tablet and by opening the cover the screen woke up automatically. Now it stays dark and I have to either press the power button or double tap on the screen. That's not acceptable. And yes, I do understand that "screen on" function can be set let's say for 1 minute, but that's not the point. This is really deal breaker for me. I will go to Best Buy tomorrow and try the regular book cover.
I have also called the Samsung support today, boy, they are clueless. Their customer support with heavy Chinese accent didn't even know that this tablet is out for public, so I hanged up and called again, this second guy told that my table is probably not sitting properly in the keyboard cover and I need to go to nearest Samsung center and they will adjust the position I don't believe what I hear......
The keyboard cover does't wake it upon opening, but when you connect it to the keyboard it starts. When not using the keyboard you can double tap the screen to turn on (Like LG phones), works well, takes about one second.

I will certainty return my keyboard cover. I need a good slim profile case that wakes up my tablet and has an S Pen holster.

I have returned the keyboard cover and bought regular slim profile book cover, which turns the Tab on and off with no problem. I wonder why Samsung's keyboard cover doesn't have this function.

It appears that Samsung put the magnet in the wrong place in the keyboard cover. If you do not mount the tablet in the cover so that you can move the tablet up and down in the case - against the keyboard - you will find that with the tablet slid about an inch up from center that the magnet kicks in and the screen turns off.
I have a plain book cover, from Amazon that I paid $9.90 for that works PERFECTLY! For the price I paid for the keyboard cover, it just HAS to be RETURNED! Hopefully, Samsung will get their manufacturing screw-up resolved.
Thanks Jeffrey, that's interesting find with the magnet position. That's probably why Samsung support over the phone told me to try to move the TAB in the cover up and down. Anyway, I have returned the keyboard cover already and also bought just plain book cover that works very well and has the "ON" and "OFF" function.

The normal book case works fine. It's just the keyboard case that doesn't work with the tablet's cover detection.
It was the same story on the Tab S3. This product is broken by design. Still, at least they didn't forget to leave a hole for the camera this time. The manual of the keyboard cover for the Tab S3 pictured a gap for the device's camera, but the accessory itself didn't have one. If you wanted to take a photo, you had to remove it from its protective case, which kind of defeats the purpose of a protective case.

It seems like the keyboard case for both the S3 and S4 were fairly rushed, honestly.

I am pretty sure this is not the case. True, the keyboard cover has magnets. If you move the tablet around, those magnets may trigger wake up function as you observed, but that's not their intended purpose. They are there to hold the keyboard cover closed when the tablet is inserted. And they align perfectly with another pair of magnets in the tablet (you can just slide something like fork along the edge of the tablet/case to see whey there are). If you move the table as you suggested so they work as wake up magnets, then the cover will not stay closed.
I believe the official book cover has another magnet that triggers wake up function. The keyboard cover does not do have wake up by design, maybe because they expect you to mostly use it in keyboard mode and as was said before, when you attach the keyboard, that will trigger wake up. I agree that it's kind of a silly decision. I would like to have wake up at least as an option. But it's not faulty manufacturing.

It unfortunately is not a feature. the only way the keyboard shuts off the screen is if you were using the keyboard and then disconnect the keyboard from the tablet
I tried putting a small neodymium magnet on the outside of the case and it seems to work. Meaning, all you need is a magnet in the right position. That position seems to be right above where the bottom right edge of the tablet would sit when you mount it to use the keyboard. If only i could x-ray this thing to see if there is any sensitive components behind the plastic in that area, I would drill it and embed my magnet there. Its plenty thick enough to flush mount the magnet there...
I think that's not the way the Keyboard Cover works.
The Keyboard Cover is only for people who always use it.
I own one, actually 2 as I also bought for my wife, and to automatically TURN ON your Tab is by connecting it to the keyboard.
And to automatically TURN OFF your Tab is by disconnecting it from the Keyboard.
That's my 2 cents...I hope it helps
I've had the Tab S4 since before the Android 9 update and had both the Samsung Keyboard case and the regular book case and both would wake and put the tablet to sleep when opening and closing it BEFORE the Android 9 update. After it only seems the book case will do the wake/sleep functions but not the keyboard case. I think it's just software and it's really frustrating because that update has been out for months and nothing's changed I still have to manually put the tablet to sleep after closing it which defeats the purpose of the magnets built into both devices (keyboard case and tablet).
