Which 4.4.3 ROM shall I try? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Just got a new 7 since my last one crapped out. Reading about 4.4.3 and how some are having some problems with it. Was running AICP but wouldn't mind something different.

Have tried most and will probably do that but reading some threads I feel like some ROMs don't like 4.4.3
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk

I'm a CM fan. Strange we don't have a thread for it here..

Try Carbon. If you want to flash a kernel make sure you use a 4.4.2 based kernel or else WiFi won't work

Similar to Pokemen, the only correct answer to this question is:
"You gotta try em all!!"

CM10.1 issues?

CM 10.1 has been a not so good experience for me. I solely bought the S3 to root and install CM on it. But bug after bug and gallery not syncing ....its hard to keep it. The TW ROMs eat battery up quicker than anything. What is weird to me though is that I had the S3 on Sprint with CM and all was working even on nightlies. You would think that the T-Mobile version would be as good.NOPE

So, what's the question?
Have you ever thought that you might be at fault and not installing correctly? Instead of pretty much blaming and insulting the devs?

Sorry dude. Some people tend to give smart answers and make it out to be like you're stupid or purposely disrespecting the devs when those were not your original intentions. You were just looking to get a straight out simple answer.. Everyone's got their reasons for what is said or done though so I can understand both sides but still, a simple answer is a SIMPLE answer.

The only issue you name is the gallery sync issue. Is that the Picasa thing? That's never worked on CM 10. Probably still in the OP.
What other issues are your having?

Do you mean that it's never worked on the Galaxy S 3 for T Mobile or cm.? Because it has, I've had it on other devices and it runs pretty darn good. besides the gallery issue I have random freezes that to the point I have to reboot my phone or take out the battery
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Use one that isn't a nightly and all US s3 variants will have the same issues except connection/data type issues. I have suggested for you to look up a picasa sync app from the market before, did you not do that? I'm almost positive it never worked for any device, without a mod.
Ok, freezing issues. What nightly are you running?
I was on the 27th but now I'm on stable release to and it still doing it
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Don't use a custom kernel, don't overclock, and don't undervolt. And don't use that ancient CM 10.0 stable build. Use 10.1 with the 20130301 gapps.
The 3.4 kernel builds are still pretty buggy. 3/17 was the last 3.0 kernel build. Try 3/17 (goo.im). If still having issues, please describe exactly what you are doing when the freezes occur.
Using 3/28, I had one hotboot this morning, been fine ever since.
Is hotspot tethering with password supported in the nightlies? I am currently on CM10 stable now. Couple of months ago the nightlies hotspot password was not working.

Are you trying to flash this on Windows or something? Android doesn't have blue screens. Lol.
In all seriousness though, try different kernels. Not all phones are created equal.

You didn't try it yourself did you? Well it doesn't even work with the built-in CM Kernel. Even tried a full wipe - to no avail. We'll have to wait for more stable ones. :fingers-crossed:

I can't be the only one

I LOVE the feel of vanilla android, which is why I had a nexus 4, and a GNEX before that. But at the moment I am using a galaxy s3. First thing I did was root and start going through custom ROMs.
The problem I am having is EVERY aosp, aokp, cm ROM I have tried I have serious issues with WiFi. Tends to work fine during set up and for a while after that, but after a seemingly random amount of time it will shut off the WiFi and fail to turn back on until I reboot.
I have been searching for a couple hours for a solution with no luck. Has anyone else been having this problem, and if so is there a solution?
Thanks in Advance.

I have tried liquid smooth, pacman, dirty unicorn, and a couple others. Every touchwiz ROM I try WiFi is perfect.
I use twrp to wipe data, cache, system, and dalvik several times. Then I install ROM, wipe dalvik again, reboot system. Let it be for usually 10 minutes or so, restart the phone and go. Works great for a minute, then the WiFi issues...
Update your bootloader possibly? Change your modem.

It's certainly an option. Haven't used the ROM, but it looks good.
I was mostly responding because I always insisted on using AOSP ROMs also. I just got fed up with all the issues (at the time), and went back to TW. I don't particularly like the way it looks, but I don't really see the menus. The homescreen is the exact same (Nova). All the apps are the same. What I'm saying is the aesthetics can be overlooked.
Stuff from sources are always more stable than when there isn't , understand that and you'll know the troubles that comes with it.

His rom is amazing and all, but there are differences in AOSP and twiz no matter how much we try to separate them both.

Sprint LG G2 no love?

So Ive never had a device (even on sprint) that has no development to be seen within a weeks period of time. I believe the Root we have is from other devices and the CM 10.2 build that was posted was something that was supposed have never seen the light of day and was broken. I totally love this phone but I was really excited for the development aspects since its basically nexus 5 with a different shell. Anyone else with the sprint variant a little worried by the lack of interest?
I'm on the same boat, many probably are.
This phone is still solid stock.. all I really need is tethering... patiently waiting

Those other carrier variants have been out way longer than ours. We've only had ours for 1 week now. Give it a bit more time?

Development is under way. There are 2 devs working on a CM 10.2 ROM right now and another working on a version of CleanROM for us. Its going to take some time and the phone hasn't been out for a week yet.
Also the CM 10.2 ROM was removed because the build was not tested and verified by the dev to be working and they removed the links to it in case it caused a potential brick to the phone. People who downloaded the ROM say it had GPS lock and rotation issues so you don't want to download the ROM anyways. In fact they saved you the hassle of reverting back to stock or a nandroid backup. Read the last few posts in that CM 10.2 thread to get a sense of the situation.
I am not worried at all about the "lack of interest" in this phone. You have to remember that not all the potential devs have received the phone yet such as garwynn who probably just received the phone today. Lets give the potential devs some time to come out with new ROMs and other mods. There are enough ways currently to mod the current stock ROM anyways through Xposed and other mods like (increase volume).
Its only been a week. Our device was rootable even before Sprint released it. I'm not worried. For now I've been using Greenify + Titanium Backup to keep my phone in battery/performance BEAST MODE.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
Install G2 xposed and you'll see you can do a lot of the customization yourself. There's also an xposed kitkat theme in the theme's section by ock. The device is already fast and ignoring aosp roms, you can customize the stock rom to your liking.

I guess I didn't think about the fact that the other variants had been out for a few months already, but I really wasn't trying to comparing them. I was just noticing that compared to devices I've had in the past (even the SGS II which I hated lol) had some things pop up pretty quickly. Also make sure that no one takes this as me complaining, just thinking out loud here.
And as to the xposed stuff, Im atually just interested in some slimed down stock roms and AOSP, but thanks for making sure I knew about it
PS: Ive also had this phone for close to a month so Im probably feeling that rom flash bug harder than most XD

Everything I tried seemed to be working well. Some pretty cool features! I did have signal issues, though. On the first flash I had no signal. I flashed again and got a good signal, but when I came back to a Sense Rom my signal dropped out and wouldn't come back so I just had to flash the stock recovery and do a factory reset. Not a huge deal. Also, I'm pretty sure the signal issue can be attributed to something I did. I'll try it again later today. Thanks for the great work!

It would have been 2/28. It was a clean install, but I think my original signal issue was because I flashed the Elite Lunar kernal directly after the Rom...I didn't do a full reboot or anything before. When I reflashed without the kernal, the signal was fine. Not sure what caused the signal drop when I came back to Sense, but I think that's been a minor issue with several AOSP roms. And again, it could just be all attributed to the way I originally flashed the Rom.

You aren't actually seeing a signal drop at all. Sense roms fake the signal to make you think you have a better signal than you do. -90db of LTE on sense would give you 5 bars but with AOSP you would see 2. You have the exact same signal.
OP, how is the battery life? Can I expect to get at least 30ish hours of charge with 2 hours of screen on time?

Ya I know that. When I said I had no signal on my original flash I meant I had no signal. When I said my signal dropped out when I came back to the sense rom I meant it dropped out...no signal. The problem was how I flashed the rom, but had nothing to with Sense faking bars.

It wasn't really a port since Carbon existed on JB, they just didn't update it. My intention was only to share it since I had made it myself. When you said in my thread 'I beat you to it' I started working with you to help you get yours working. Finally, if you look at the changelogs for Carbon there are many nights where the nightly fixes have nothing to do with our device so compiling and flashing them is pointless. I guess I don't like the way this line looks like we're competing when I basically put the brakes on when I realized I had inadvertently stepped on your toes.
In any case, good luck.
