Import tax in the US - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried researching this without success. Has anything in the US been charged import tax on their G3? Mine will be here Monday and I'm wondering whether or not it will be charged and or of anyone knows how it works.

Hi, I purchased one from Korea, the 32GB 3GB Ram version LG G3 F400K and I had to pay €50 customs charges upon arrival. It all depends on your own country's customs and excise. You would need to call them up and ask them if they charge duty on importing of Mobile Phones. I rang my local customs office myself and they gave me the price of how much it would cost to import it. The charges can vary between each country. ( I live in Ireland). Thanks and hope this helps?

Shipping time/cost to US

Just curious. For those here in the US who couldn't wait and purchased an Unlocked version, could you tell me/us how long it took from order to your hands and any extra fees you had to pay (import, ect..)
I'm very seriously considering just getting the unlocked and not waiting for the AT&T version to come out, even tho it would be a big risk not being able to insure it.
Thanks.
To all your points below you forgot the fact that an Europe version will not work on 3G USA networks...If you don´t mind loosing this I don´t think the shiping time or costos will be to high

Nope, dont care about 3g, i never use it. Only 'data' i send are text messages, sometimes sms.. but thats it. Theirs plenty of Wi-Fi hotspots where i live for it to not be a concern.

Clove is an excellent choice. Purchased my Hermes, Kaiser and 3G-less Touch Pro from them. Shipping was unbelievably fast each time. I will be waiting for the US 3G version, though. Another thing to consider before purchasing an unlocked phone from Europe that is not fully functional in the USA is resale value. Since I upgrade my phone once or even twice in a year I always sell my used phones on eBay while they are still worth something. I imagine a Touch Pro2 without 3G in the USA will have less resale value if you sell it in the US. I think my Touch Pro was undervalued when I sold it earlier this year.

that is also not a concern with me. Once i get the TP2 ill likely have it for 2+ years, which by then, will be so out of date nobody will want to buy it. Ive had my 3125 for 2 years, and even if it was still a viable phone, ive dropped it a couple times so its not workin 100% anymore.
i do have to ask..

That "VAT" don't applied to international shipping buyer,.. (It is like local tax).
In your case, you only pay for the £426 plus shipping.
P/S: Noted, headsup...make sure you check with your Creditcard Co. they might charge you with some fees for foreign transaction.
Has anyone purchased the TP2 in the states and are currently using it? Wondering what problems, if any their could be.
Not yet,
As announced before till late July not any TP2 will be sold in America (Continent)
At least the 3G version, the european version you can get it easyly from any online store like clove uk
Buying HTC Pro2 in US
Check with Amazon

Has anyone purchased a UK version and is now using it in the states? Any issues? Im looking at Clove at the "HTC Touch Pro2 - Bundle Option Two " which includes the device, a car charger, a 3.5mm adapter, screen protector and an extra battery.
According to Google, the bundle = $738.10 while the device itself is = $678.34. Wondering if the $60 difference is worth it. I know most of that price is the battery. *ponders* i did add it up and separately all the extras add up to about $86.
Like i mentioned on my previous post, I have been using it for a month now (with T-Mobile)... very happy with it and not problem at all ((Bought it from clove) and of course has been playing around with it and tweak it.

I have a TP2 on AT&T which I bought in the US here
the person had my shipped right to me from Hong Kong and i had it in two days, but I believe they have some in stock in CA. I am in CA and I love my TP2, no I do not have 3G, but I am very impressed with how well the edge works. I have had no problems with it and I have a lot of 3rd party programs on it.

just checked.. my bank changes a fee of "0.8%" according to him. which by his own math, in decimal form = 0.008. So it will be roughly about $6.00 fee to get a Touch Pro 2 from across the pond. My other bank said they charged 3% (.03) so my first bank is alot cheaper lol
So then if i got This Touch Pro 2 Bundle, after shipping and transaction fee, it would = $750.05
Ouch.. lol i know i want to do it, but it will still hurt pressing that 'check out' button

and what tmob plans do you have to buy? phone & data prices? 2 year contract?
So, we can´t just buy the phone without any contract like in Europe?

We can't, but we have one massive advantage over Europe. Actual plan costs. We have one of lowest price-per-minute ratios in the world. Japan is another that has similar costs to the US. So, while phones here are more expensive, voice and data plans are cheaper.
$200 a piece from Wirefly, got one for me and one for my wifey Due to arrive on Monday and I can't wait for that big beautiful screen! Looking forward to using NRG's rom on the TP2 as his were the only I like for my Fuze.
Looks like it is now up to $229 with a 2-year extension

Really? You want to go with that? Canada, the US, and Spain are THE most expensive countries for cell phone usage.
Check this out:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/08/12/us-canada-and-spain-win-the-battle-for-most-expensive-cellph/
According to that post the US equivalent of an $11 dollar plan in the Netherlands will run around $53 in the US (don't know which carrier but yeah).
Yes, you CAN buy a TMo TP2 without a contract (though still locked), for somewhere between $500 and $550. Alternatively, the unlocked US Edge-only Euro version ran about $720 (minus VAT) when it first debuted.

I saw that headline before, but what I'm curious about is whether they compared apples and oranges--for example, did they compare subsidies? Someday I'll actually read the source material and see. Not today though.
They don't take into account subsidies.
My point was that gehzumteufel said that the US had among the lowest plan costs. Which according to that is just not true.
Subsidies do soften the blow, but only if you're buying a new cell. If you're the type to keep the same cell for years (maybe you're an environmentalist, maybe you just like the model) the plan prices just seem expensive as they're the same price whether you get a new cell or not.
Personally as I'm on pay as you go/prepaid, I always pay full price, so the plan prices are important.
And yeah, the US has the TP2 for less than the European price. I am actually considering getting the US version, but then I'd have to find a way to unlock it...

[Q] Buying the glide from AT&T store without contract

Is it possible? i have a friend that should be int the sates on October and i want him to buy it from the AT&T store, but can he buy it without any contract or a sim card?
if not is there any other way? i don't want to buy it directly and ship it to my country cos the taxes here will make the purchase unjustified (will add more the 125$ not including the shipment).
Yes, you can buy any phone that AT&T sales in stores without a contact.....except the iPhone. Currently the off contract of the Captivate Glide is $500 though from AT&T
If I helped you, please press the Thanks button

Or via amazonwireless.com
(ps. I hit thanks by accident on your message and i don't know how to remove it!)
I bought mine from Amazon Wireless, as phone only (phone upgrade), $ 399, and then unlock with an on-line service ($ 25).
the problem wit amazonwireless for me is that i need to have a US adress, there is a service for that but the charge an arm and a leg.
plus the taxes to import the phone makes it unwise to buy it online. i need to cheack with the customs again, maybe (if buddha will premit) there wont be import taxes on this phone (VAT will probley will be but its low amount).
I live in Europe and went to US in March and a tried to buy this phone in a AT&T Store and it was not possible. Even to buy the phone without contract they require a contract plan. I did buy the phone thru ebay later. I would suggest you the same if you have access to US address.

The phone itself has cost $389,99 and international USPS Express shipping was $44,99. This was quite cheap compared to the $600 (+ shipping) on Amazonwireless back then.
Btw. If any German is interested in the taxes I had to pay: It was about 63€ (~19%)
now days the glide cost 400 dollors via amazonwireless and the shiping in the staes is free.
i think i got lucky cos i have a friend that is gona visit is family in the states sooner then expected and he agreed that i will ship this to his family house, and he will bring it to me when he come back. so i can get away from shiping and taxes via customes.
yeah ebay its the only place to buy a phone anymore, altho some pawnshops will cut good deals. seems 300 for a new or refurbished phone on ebay is the going rate & most folks dont mind shipping outa country.
helpslip is there a problem buying from amazonwireless if i ship it in the US?
i can arrange a frined living there to get my package, dont know if he have AT&T service and actualy don't care only want the phone with no contract.
i wouldnt think so altho i have zero 1st hand experience w/ amazonwireless, if its ran the same way as amazon your purchasing from an independent seller sometimes just a dood w/ a garage no different than ebay & ebay now has 30 day buyer protection so they refund price & shipping (& return shipping if needed) if something doesnt arrive or doesnt work etc... ive even been refunded after more than a year for an item that didnt arrive from australia (to usa) altho i keep in contact w/ seller through ebay so they could verify a problem.
damn i sound like a shill for ebay sorry.
now i got confused. i saw that i can buy from amazon wireless an locked phonw with or without a contract and also from amazon.com itself that its seems sells from independet seller (like the market). whoshould i choose? at least i have some time to think about it cos my firned will be in the states in a month from now.
I bought from Amazon Wireless, which is Amazon direct. They will sell you a locked phone without contract.
When I bought it, it used to be wrongly labled as "unlocked" I contacted them and they offered a full refund. Since I'm in the UAE I didn't want that, just an unlock code, to which they said they can't help me with that. So I ended up unlocking from AmericanUnlocker.
I prefer to buy direct, in this case it would be Amazon Wireless, that'll help with returns.
thank incidentflux you made my choice clearer. i will buy it from amazon wireless direct. also the delivery is free and will take 2-3 days to my friend's door.
unfourtuntly it will take a while until i will get it, hope ics will be out by then and if not the inc3ption rom will be a great choise
Glad to help. Yes shipping is free as well. But the smartphone will still be locked to AT&T by the way, which is an inconvenience.
I also ordered the SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC

Import Pixel 2 XL from US to Europe

Hi guys. I'm simply in love with Pixel 2 XL. And I want it. Now!
Unfortunately I live in Italy.. And the phone will be delivered..... No, we don't know when... But we know the price! 989euro. Crazy!
So I think to buy it the the States. One friend will buy the device and send it to me.
One question: the phone will work correctly in Italy/Europe? In tech specs all the data are the same between US and IT devices.
Thank you so much guys!
Seems like there's no difference between US and RoW model in terms of lte bands this time around. Should be fine. I'm waiting for my US purchased device to use it in Russia.

most likely that it will work fine
but make sure that the lte bands in italy are supported in the pixel + order unlocked version
Going by the specification page on the American Google store, the Pixel 2 phones should work just fine in Italy. They might not support carrier-aggregation though if that's available in your country.
Google has yet posted any clarification regarding this.
This Pixel 2 has no difference all over the world on cell coverage.
Thank you guys

in usa most states have tax
only few don't have tax
My experience with "importing" tech stuff from the States is, your shipment will 99% go through customs and you will have to provide your receipt which in turn will serve as a base for calculating how much import tax you will have to pay to your government. Since I live in Slovenia and you are in Italy (neighboring countries part of the EU) I believe your scenario will be the same.
Taken from http://tradecommissioner.gc.ca/italy-italie/market-facts-faits-sur-le-marche/17370.aspx?lang=eng
Import duties into EU countries are subject to import tariffs (normally applied on the import c.i.f. value) plus the value-added tax (VAT) which varies according to different importing countries. The standard rates for Italy is 22%.
According to the Italian Stability law of 2016, the standard VAT may increase to 25% in 2018. The imposition of the VAT rate increase will be dependant on the performance of the Italian economy.

It doesn't matter where you're importing from, your import tax is the same - shipping from other EU countries does not count as importing.
So put another 22% on top of your price of $902 and add the ****ty conversion rate from $ to € your government will probably give you. The phone will end up costing you around 900 € if they don't add any handling expenses as well.
It's funny how the situation changed in the last 3 years. Before it was hard to get Apple products where I live and it was very easy to get subsidized Nexus phones from our carriers, now it's the other way around. Getting a Pixel would cost me around the same as it would getting a Crapple product. A shame really.
Hello, everyone i've looked for importing the Pixel 2 too but the main problem it's the customs fees are too expensive and all the company that send to France (like shipito, mailbox ...) only send via DHL FEDEX so there is 100% chance that customs fees will be added, and they cost 120€ ... I'm going to Miami in March and i'm thinking of buying it at a store in Miami but i don't know if we can import the phone like this if there is customs fees risk too or not.
@AmphybiouS How do you proceed to receive your Pixel and what was the final price, did you have customs fees ?

PS.
I also came from my good old Nexus 6 to OP5T
I still think Nexus 6 the best Google phone ever made. Had zero issues with it for 3 years.
I'm not a student so I cant buy it with the discount ( or there's another way? ) anyone o had bought it without the discount can share how much has paid?
Thanks in advance
I bought mine on the release day and received it on Black Friday (which is no special day in Canada). Paid about $740, used a referral code from a friend.
Very happy with it. It works perfectly on Public Mobile (which doesn't sell phones and expects you to have one unlocked, though Telus-locked phones will work).
IIRC there was only one shipping choice, DHL (yuk) and the phone shipped from California HST-paid so it didn't stop at customs.
