Since I have an ace 2x (gt-s7560m), I have only 2GB of internal storage (technically 1.78GB). I was planning on installing games like grand theft auto, or other 2GB games. The only problem is that my internal storage is too low, and I can't do much with such a low internal storage capacity. So this tutorial will hopefully allow you ace 2x/trend users (or any other phone) to use the external sdcard as the default install path.
Prerequisites:
A phone (duh)
ADB installed on your computer
USB debugging enabled
An external sd
Your OEM cable (or any cable that works)
1. Enable usb debugging by going into SETTINGS > DEVELOPER OPTIONS and enable usb debugging (if you don't have usb debugging, go to about phone and constantly click the build number 7 times or more until it says developer options are enabled)
2. Plug in to your computer and make sure that you have the proper drivers installed, if you don't then search up samsung usb driver on google
3. Press windows key + r and type cmd, then press enter and you're in cmd
4. Navigate to your android sdk folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools or C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools) (the command is cd [directory])
5. Type adb devices
6. Then type adb shell pm set-install-location 2 or adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2 if the previous didn't work
7. There we go. You now can install games to sdcard without worrying about that horrible 1.78GB storage.
8. To revert back to internal storage, just type adb shell pm set-install-location 0 or adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0
EDIT: Easiest way of doing this (no computer or cable) (REQUIRES ROOT PERMISSIONS)
1. Download terminal emulator from app store
2. Type SU (if it prompts for superuser access, press grant or if on cyanogenmod, allow)
3. Type pm set-install-location 2
4. Close the terminal session
5. To revert back, type su and then pm set-install-location 2
6. There you go!
EDIT #2: Now I am able to play games like GTA 3 and San Andreas on my phone without having to worry about space, the only problem is that since my phone has adreno 200, it's really slow even with the lowest graphics settings.
Some apps will not work if they are a service or have a widget, so you need to manually move back to internal storage by getting app2sd or link2sd and just move it back manually
Leave a thanks if I have helped in any way!
Please post any questions or concerns here if you have any

I don't know that phone, but it depends on how the primary storage is made...
·Primary media partition is emulated from /data/media -- no apps2sd possible
·Primary media partition is internal SD -- will work
·Primary media partition is external SD (phones with no internal storage at all like Optimus P500, with internal storage disabled in custom ROM, with properly swapped storages) -- will work and actually make sense

I can't take a screenshot at the moment. But on jellybean it said that my external sd card was internal storage; kitkat still says that it is external sd card. Just try and download any app on your phone, and then just see where it installed.
Hey , I've tries using the 2nd method (terminal) . but when i download an apps on play store ive got this error "Insufficient Storage Available"

hello everyone
i bought a moto defy 2 days ago and i have a question
how to access and save on internal sd(i mean save on the 2gb internal memory)because ever since i inserted my 4gb memory card everything automatically get saved on the external sd/memory card even applications automatically install in memory card although i have android 2.1 not 2.2!
and when i try to save on internal memory i get an error msg!
any idea why??
anyone?????????
No idea, sorry! Just curious where apps are installed in the sd, which folder?
The internal memory is not normally accessible, to access it on the phone you have to root the device and use terminal or RootExplorer.
Or you can use adb via desktop.
Finally, the official app2sd method use encryption to prevent the apks easily readable. You may use the mount command to find out more (if you've rooted).

in /sdcard
there's a folder for go lanucher and for musical pro and sketchmobile and SPC as well as other apps
but i tried to remove the memory card and run the apps and they ran which means they are in phone memory but maybe have additional files in SDcard

Anyone know how to ADB Push / Pull in Terminal Emulator?
And any extra knowledge with terminal emulator? Like mounting sdcard because I am really frustrated with trying to mount my SDCARD! lol
You can't use ADB in a terminal emulator on the phone. It's meant to be run from a computer with either Windows, Linux or Mac OS X.
An unsecure boot.img will provide you with the possibility of using the adb remount command.
The SD card can be in three different modes (the expressions used here aren't the official ones): "phone mounted", "USB mass storage mounted" or unmounted.
"Phone mounted": accessible from the phone's ROM, or through adb push and pull, as /sdcard/
"USB Mass Storage mounted": the SD card behaves like any other mass storage device, accessible solely from the OS that has mounted it. The Android OS can't access it in that mode. You need to properly unmount the card from the computer first to avoid possible corruption, then toggle mass storage off so that the phone can remount the card for itself.
Unmounted is only used to remove the card while the phone is on, again, to avoid errors and corruption. Not a good idea if you're using /sd-ext hacks like Darktremor apps2sd or s2e.
My fire has decided to constantly boot to T.W.R.P., I'm going to wipe everything and install cm9 but before I do that I need to get some files off of my internal memory. How can I do this without access to the OS? My PC wont show internal memory and T.W.R.P. doesn't seem to offer an option to mount it.

Posts of this type belong in Q&A.
Look closer at the TWRP buttons... "Mount -> Mount USB Storage"
Thanks for the fast reply,
I apologize for putting the thread in the wrong place. Maybe a mod can move or delete it. But, of course i saw the mount usb option, but this doesn't allow me to access internal memory, just the SD card, regardless of which options i check.

I just assumed you were talking about the SD card. Define "internal memory" for me... what are you trying to pull off of the device?
By internal memory i mean everything that isn't in the sdcard sub folder. Specifically i need to access the "data" folder to pull a few FPSE save states.

You can use adb pull to copy the entire directory or parts of it to your host machine while booted into TWRP. I have examples here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23747804&postcount=3
EDIT: ... and you'd have to mount it first if it's not already...
Code:
adb shell mount data
That looks like what i need, thanks a lot.
is it possible force the MTP mode into Mass Storage Device ?
as for many users come from Nexus S , Nexus S uses mass storage device to communicate with PC for copy/past/delete files on internal SDcard
i found that it isn't same here on Galaxy Nexus , which uses new mode MTP ...
but i figured out this MTP is little bite pain in ass as i modified files with Root Explorer , but it doesn't show any changes when I try to access internal SDcard with PC to copy/delete files.
even i rebooted my phone twice or thrice , still doesn't show any changes ...
so i begin to miss the old MASS STORAGE DEVICE MODE as we had in Nexus S ...
is it possible to do so ?
If it was possible, it would have been done already. It is not possible on gnex because the sdcard is just a link on the /data partition, which cannot be unmounted while android is running.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
There is no way to enable USB Mass Storage. You're gonna have to deal with MTP.
.... well, in that case any possible solutions to what I have described about no showing files change in PC ?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
not possible in this configuration. And honestly why would you want to? I certainly do not miss the delay of mount/dismount, also being able to access the storage on my phone at the same time as the connected pc is so much more useful
I don't why and how to say it, for example, I want to mod SystemUI.apk so I copy from /system/app to /sdcard by using Root Explorer, then I connected my phone to PC, but windows explorer doesn't show SystenUI.apk exists in SDcard section while the Root Explorer indicates there is in the SDcard, even I rebooted my phone twice or thrice, it still doesn't show up in windows explorer...
This is what being bother me
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
i just attempted your exact scenario and windows explorer is now showing systemui.apk in root of /sdcard/, soon as i copied the file using es explorer on the phone i saw my windows explorer window flicker and updated with the newly copied apk. i did this while the phone was connected fyi
Try the app "sdrescan". It'll for android o re "read" the sdcard and populate any changes in it's database.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
The implementation of MTP on Android 4.x is buggy. While it seems to work for some people, a large number of users experience issues with file transfers hanging & refresh issues. Forcing a rescan seems to work for the refresh issue.
Personally, I avoid MTP and use ADB for copying stuff. Follow the link in my signature for more info.
lol! try backing up your sdcard using MTP sometime.

I know this thread is old, but hoping someone can help - I cannot find ANY undelete programs for Windows that recognize my GNex. They all require Mass Storage Mode or a disk drive, and even though "Internal Storage" shows up in My Computer, none of the programs see it as a viable location for scanning.
I need to undelete a lot of files from my internal storage (sdcard folder on my GNex). How can I mount this? Or how can I mount the entire internal storage as a "drive" in Windows? I'll put the phone in any mode I have to recover what I accidentally deleted. Can I do it from recovery (mount sdcard perhaps?)

bull****
look at the nexus S. it has built in storage and it used USB mass storage prior to ICS.
it is not a hardware limitation, it is strictly software. google did it so the partition can be EXT3/EXT4 and allow an unlimited amount of storage for apps
the problem with this is, even with its EXT3/4 capability, MTP is ****ing TRASH on linux. i can only send files to my phone, i cant move them onto my PC. i cant move/delete/copy files within the storage.. the only way for me to do it is through a file manager on my phone and even then it doesnt update when i connect to my PC until i reboot my phone a few times.
MTP is a decent technology but mass storage should still be offered. why not have a scalable partition for apps using EXT and allow the rest to be what it wants. i dont know. there are many different ways they could have implemented this internal storage thing but MTP is the worst way (at least for linux)
Nexus S's /sdcard is a separate partition, GNex's /sdcard is just a link to /data/media/0
In other words in with the nexus s the command umount /sdcard works and doesn't with the gnex.

again, not a hardware issue but a software issue.
why can we not partition the internal storage in this way?
the nexus S was partitioned to allow mass storage but with JB it doesnt allow it. it is obviously capable of reverting.
i dont know.. im gonna try to figure something out. ill come back with updates (if i remember to)
Hi everyone,
I see connecting USB via OTG to Firestick 4K doesn't allow it to be converted as internal storage unlike other Android devices.
Which is obviously every firestick owner must be looking for to expand the Internal storage.
A humble request to all the Android Developers here.. Could you please find a solution to this?
Thanks in advance
I was able to get it to work by following this tutorial, it allows you to have part of the USB as internet and another part external. Apps seem to run a little slower, but still work fine.
After formatting USB correctly I used the app2sd app
to move apps to adoptable storage, as the firestick doesn't have a migrate option built in.

Can you please provide a step by step guide ?
In apps2sd , when you select a app to move, it just takes you to the firestick --- settings --- manage apps section. There is no option there to move any apps to USB.
Can you link the app you used please ?
Sent you a PM as well.
Thanks[
In app2sd you click on link apps to SD card. Then click on the app you want to move. Then click the menu button in the top right corner, and click move to adoptable, or move to SD, I'm not sure which it was.

Apps2SD is working pretty well for me if I only use the file linking option, not Adoptable stoarage. My device has more room and feels faster than when using adoptable storage. I also don't like that it changes your default install location to external.
*On a rooted firestick 4k, flash this kernel to get f2fs access.
*Backup your files to a computer disk drive.
*Format your USB drive into 2 partitions: 1. Storage (fat32) 2. Extended (f2fs).
**I used Gparted while booted into the FireISO USB drive I made to unlock the bootloader and root the Firestick. You can also do it in Apps2SD but I had trouble with it.
**I made my first partiton 105Gb, and second 10Gb.
*Attach the USB drive to the Firestick and install Apps2SD apk. Open it and go into Settings. Change dev/block option to say "/dev/block/sda" without quotes.
*Back out of settings and go to the top optioin: Link Apps to SD. Then open the icon menu in the Left corner. Choose Recreate Mount Script. Say OK and Yes to all prompts. Wait until the script is successfully created. Reboot.
*Last link some apps to your SD card. I don't suggest system apps or anything that accesses system apps like Titanium Backup. For apps that slow down a lot (your browser), link everything EXCEPT the Data folders. This is often the largest folder, but the performance hit is not worth the space you save.
Hope this helps someone.
does Pretoriano80 kernel work with "Stick Mount" or do I need to remove this ?
