If you updated, there's no quick and easy way for you. You either do it the long ugly way, or you don't have a rooted Evo

Hi all
I have looked at the Note 2 Tool kit in the rooting section and wanted to ask a quick question, i have a note 2 on o2 in the uk, all i want to do is to root the phone but keep the standard ROM for now, will this tool kit allow me to do this, im a bit concerned as one of the options talks about "flash insecure boot image & Root phone" is this the option i need to be able to transfer apps to SD
Sorry again for the newbie question but we all have to start somewhere

The insecure boot flash has nothing to do with apps2sd afaik. You must flash an insecure boot.image to obtain the enviroment to get root an be able to boot the phone.
Thanks for the reply, so will doing this alter the stock ROM? ,I want to keep that for the time being.

No it will not
The easiest way to root is method 1 here. Takes less than a few mins but will not be able to receive OTA so no point in keeping stock. Android Revolution is the closest Ive tried to a Custom Rom but currently Im using Omega V3 which you might like too.
Thanks for all the help & advice, much appreciated

I'm rooted, so assuming I can, should I take the update? Would it screw anything up?

Swyped from my Galaxy Note II
Thx, is it reasonable to expect someone will build a zip for those of us to flash using say twrp?
I'm sure one of the awesome devs will when they find time. I myself just unrooted, forced the update as described by qbking77, then rerooted.

if you are still stock you can unroot, update and re-root all without losing data.that's how I did it

So qbking77's rooting method still works ok after updating?

I feel stupid asking this but what are you referring to by forced the update... Just to be clear, I haven't yet rooted, was planning to try to get to it today when I found I received the update notification and wasn't sure to take it or not so came in here looking for the answer... So bottom line, do I just accept the update, then am I still able to root using the method I've seen in the tool kit and such?

If you get the update accept it then root your phone. There is a way to install it in stock recovery or force it. Which is what I did since I have no patience to wait. The info for that should be found here.
