[Q] usb charge port loose can't or hardly charge - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

hey
i have a galaxy gio with the warrant expired.
since a short time my usb charging port came loose
I must always wiggle the usb cable or the charger to the side (if you just plug it in it wont charge )
I tried a couple of usb cables.
i search on the internet and i found that it was the usb charger port that is broken or there is dirt in it. now I Don't saw dirt in it so i think my port is broken how can I replace it? and are these ports trust-worthy to buy : ebay. com/itm/2pcs-New-Charge-Port-Charging-USB-Replacement-Part-For-Samsung-Gal axy-Gio-S5660-/400498344048#payCntId (placed some white space in it because i am a new user 10 post ) ? or is there another explanation for this problem ?
thanks in advance

I've had this problem. Get a pin and you'll see two pins on the Android end of the cable. Use the pin to slightly lift the two pins up (not too much though).
Hope it helps and works in all cables because these are the two pins that put the pressure to keep it in the socket.

Cheers for that. I didn't get the chance to take a picture.
Use a small pin to lift them up. Those clips are what holds the USB in the port. They get flattened over time and you have to lift then back up.

They appear to be OK. If it's a new one your having a problem with, then I'd assume that you unluckily purchased a dodgy cable.
I use any brand micro USB charger and cables with out problems.
Sorry I couldn't help. Try a friends cable and if it works you know to buy another one.

thanks for replying.
i have tested it with another cable doesn't work so i will ask a friend for testing with his charger.
if that don't work i will buy those usb charger ports or a new smatphone

New phone. All I can tell you is my Gio is as old as they are and when the battery starts to die, again now, I've pretty much always got it plugged in. All cables work which means my port is still good (they are a bit wobbly though).
Perhaps you stepped on it while it was plugged on and damaged the port (had a mate do this when drunk and he was out buying a new phone 2 days later because it wouldn't charge). Only testing other cables will tell.
Best of luck and I hope it all works to fit within your budget.
I need a new phone but I want to wait and see the real specs and price of S5 Mini (because I've been sucked in by the hype).

yes a new phone is probably the best
and i was looking for the nexus 5 or nexus 4 (if I can find it somewhere )
but the problem is my parents have to pay for my new cell phone and i think they don't want to pay 400 euro or 350 euro
they want a cell phone of 100 - 150 euro like gio so again a not very good phone
but my dad has some skills with soldering so why not try to replace the port?
for 4 dollar from ebay and i live in europe so 3 eur is nothing compared with 100 to 400 eur for a new cellphone
but it is ebay what will be the quality?
one thing is sure my port is broken it is not the cable but
i will go to a friend tomorrow and test it out with his charger

Your phones cost more than us. In Aus galaxy ace is only $120. I can get S5 for just under 600 online. Go the ace if you want a decent cheap phone. If S5 mini is too much I'll go a pre paid ace, unlock it and CM it with Link2SD.

Well...nexus series receives software updates b4 they're made available for other phones. This is a major advantage. and thing to note is : nexus phones/tabs always(till now) compromise with some important features...Take Nexus 5,for instance, this phone doesn't have a separable battery & I guess memory isn't expandable too. Same is the case with Moto-G.
But these incapabilities have what made these phones low budget in front of their rivals.
So now that u have asked... I preferably go with the latest Nexus 5:thumbup:
But one more phone that u may want to check is Samsung Galaxy S4 : an year old technology but here in India its price has suffered a major decrease... So now this phone's price also equals nearly to Nexus 5. & for ur info, S4 has expandable memory with a separable battery too.
So a lot of phones are there & all of them are unique in some aspects. & it all circles down to u as which phone u wanna buy

thanks for your advice
the price of the samsung galxy s4 is nearly the same as the nexus 5.
so if i am going to buy a new phone i think i will go for nexus 5 because pure android (i like the pure android my friend had new smartphone with the os modified by samsung and if I compare it with my nexus 7 you see that design is much better on the nexus 7 (samsung has little taste (opinion of me )))
for the lower price i take the moto G
but i'm still hoping may parrents agree to buy the nexus 5.

Ok, now that I know the back story I understand the 'here we go again' part. I also get how it can be frustrating when people post the same question over and over again in a thread.
I apologize for my harsh response and applaud your humility.
If I may suggest one thing, perhaps adding a note to your first post, with regards to knowing about the cheap/easy eBay route, would minimize future pestering on this thread.
And as a hopefully helpful piece of info - my working gnex otg cable was billed to also work with the sgsII phone. So their XDA forum may contain the info you need to finish your project.
Best of luck.

Not sure if you want the input, but I've also found this method to work (probably) just as well. Then again, I haven't done the method you've posted and therefore can't compare which is easier.
It should be noted that for the method I linked to, instead of just cutting the cable in half, I sliced open the cable sheathing along its length (about 2-3 inches), then cut only the white and green wires, shorted them on the micro usb end (as per the directions), and viola! Just wrapped the shorted wires in a tiny bit of electrical tape, pushed the wires back in, and wrapped more electrical tape around the slice.

Oh, so what he did was taking a micro-USB / micro-USB cable + standard USB extender cable and make one micro-USB / standard USB cable?
Ok, I wonder if this hand made cable is reliable and durable. It would be too bad if there is any indirect damage due to cable quality.
I once, bought a cheap USB cable in a dollar store, just b/c it was $1 and I like its blue color. Since that day, I began to have disconnection of USB drive, drive took longtime to be recognized by the OS, and finally a serious disk corruption. Then I finally found out it was the cable. Since that day, I only bought good quality cable and alwasy verify them carefully.

It's not clear to me what he did because he did only one end of the cable ‚at least that what the pic’s were showing . The easiest way to do it is to get a standard micro USB to USB cable ( like the one you use for charging) , then you have to :
1- connect pin #4 to pin # 5 on the micro USB side . ( like how it was explained in the first post)
2- then you cut the other end of the cable which is the male USB and replace it with a female USB sockect . You can use any old USB 2.0 from you old PC or USB extension cable.

Oh Ok make sense now. The confusion was my own ignorance. I didn't understand the meaning of OTG cable and thought it was a normal micro-USB cable.
So does that mean the Galaxy Nexus support USB Host mode? Is custom ROM required? If yes which one? And what kind of devices could the GNex use via this OTG cable? External SATA drive? Webcam?
Thanks for any clarification.

[MOD] T-Mobile Note 2 wireless charging mod

This is a fork of the original N7100 Note 2 wireless mod thread found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951493
The purpose of this thread is to determine why the wireless charging pins on the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-T889) are not working after installing the MOD above.
Please view the thread above for more details about the original MOD, and to see what you need to do first in order to continue with the work around below.
Updated method on 8-5-2013: Thanks to SGBE
The updated method has a better solder point. See that thread OVER HERE.
Results:
The Work Around: (verified working on multiple devices)
We have a mod to make wifi charging work! Regardless if the T-Mobile GN2 is missing hardware or not, the work-around is a low cost (free?) alternative to get wifi charging working. Our work around involves soldering a small wire to a tiny point on the micro usb board. You should be able to solder a very small connection (about the size of a pen tip) before attempting this. The mod/workaround below is verified working with the stock charger and stock kernel. <- Pay attention to that last bit.
Workaround Known Issues:
Some kernels have a charge rate which is set too high for the PALM PRE Touchstone to work with. Likewise, some non-oem chargers can not deliver enough amperage to continuously charge the device wirelessly through the Touchstone. Therefore, if you have any problems (disconnect/reconnect proble), be certain that you are using a stock charging rate (kernel controlled) and a stock Galaxy Note 2 Charger (2,000mA). If you are still having problems check your mod for trouble, and finally post up and maybe someone can help you.
The Mod / Workaround:

New Information:
If you have new information on a hardware or software fix then it will be added here. Until that time, proceed with the workaround at your own risk. Once again, the work around instructional image is HERE.
WARNING: What was claimed to be a fix in the section below did not work, and ultimately people wasted money on bogus hardware. It is here for historical reference.
The Fix
You may need to purchase some missing hardware.
See page 7 for details (you need to replace the flex cable and micro-usb board): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34380437&postcount=65 The SKU number for the board is MBRPSS964.

Wifi Charging work around instructions
Completed work around example.
alternate view of work around charging pin
alternate view of work around +5vdc source
Picture of the wi-fi fix working (reported that this may be a fake!)
Older info:
Some steps that I've personally done:
Completed the wireless mod above, confirmed wireless voltage reading of 5.56vdc.
Tested continuity between USB positive, and wireless positive - no connection.
Tested continuity from the negative wireless charging pin to the negative USB, SIM slot, various screws - they are connected.
Jumped the positive post on the USB to the wireless charging positive pin, the phone charges but is not practical to have a wire hanging out of the USB port.
I plan to pull apart the phone and check the paths from the positive and negative ports on the wireless pins. Attached is a picture from a SPRINT GN2 that does not have the pins, but supposedly works for charging once contact is made with the pads. I'm going to be using this to compare the circuit against my T-mobile version.
I hope you find something with this in the next few days when the full dis-assembly takes place

Now this makes sense. Because if both wireless and usb charging connections were directly connected together, the phone would have no way of knowing which charging system you were using. But we know from the tests on the international version that it does know. So this in no way tells us that positive is not connected at all.
Even though the phone doesn't detect wireless charging at this time in software, has anyone tried leaving it on the wireless charger to see if it still charges the battery?

I did this too, and waited for a while (waiting for the battery to drain on this phone is like trying to suck the ocean dry) - after a long time of playing video it dropped by 1% while on the wireless charger.

Sounds like a lot of us did the same thing. Knowing that, any folks who can test with their modded or kit wireless will help speed up the research for everyone! I'm hopeful at this point, but have not had a chance yet to do a tear down. Been working late hours this week but I should have a chance to disassemble the Gn2 this weekend for sure. So far the plan is to do a visual inspection of the wireless charging circuit and compare it to the sprint pictures in the OP. I'm guessing that a bypass is in order and it may be as simple as using some foil tape or conductive marker; but that's all speculation at this point. :good:

seems like it may be hardware related, if you look to the left of the pins, there is something attached on the sprint board that is missing on ours i will circle it in the picture

I don't doubt your info, but it seems weird to me that other carriers (sprint specifically I think) can't access their pins, but would have added hardware that would make the phone capable of wireless charging, and we have access to the pins, but lack the hardware capability to take advantage of them.

I agree. I got a chance to take some macro shot of this with my DSLR. Pics attached.
I have a wind mobile note 2. Identical to the tmobile version. I did poke around with my multi meter and couldnt find the positive charging pin connected to anything. Just to be clear im no expert I just took my phone apart so it may help others figure this out. Especially since I already ordered the palm touch stone stuff lol

As it stands now, I jumped the USB 5vdc internally with a tiny wire, over to the wireless positive pin. It's working, although it was a tough mod. But it is totally internal so I guess this will have to do for now. So I have wireless charging (kind of, it works teh same as USB) on the T-mobile Note 2 now. If anyone wants to do the same thing, post up a pic of the board by the USB plug and I'll label the connector that you can use for the 5vdc source. The reason it's a tough mod is because you have to solder a small connection to the board under the capacitive touch buttons. It took me about 4 hours to find a good power lead on the board and make it all work internally!

Nexus 5 battery case

Please post evidence of battery cases that are available or manufacturers that built Nexus 4 cases to watch.
Don't want one for a daily driver but for long airport travel and vacation days.
You can watch zerolemon, they did one for the n4.

It took zero lemon months to get it out. I bought it and to be honest it wasnt a good product. I just carry a battery back in my bag when i know i will be gone for a while.
I emailed ZeroLemon about a Nexus 5 case, mentioning the back was fairly easily removable and whether they would be making one for the Nexus 5 and here's what they said:
This case will be out in mid January due to holiday season and project lineup with our other products.

I'd only be interested if it were a replacement battery and back as opposed to a "charging case"

I wouldn't trust them. They promised one for the Galaxy nexus from the Playstore and they never released it.

Not necessarily a case, but it can work with or without a case... http://www.power-skin.com/popn/samsung-battery-charger.php
I haven't used any of PowerSkin's products, but I ordered it so I'll experiment and see how it is.

Now that is very interesting. I wonder if it covers the camera? With the sale and the coupon that might just be worth it to get me through the few circumstances were I wouldn't have access to a charger. The thing that I like about this option is that I don't need to remove the existing case. Pretty cool idea.
Actually, I am not sure that this will work after looking at it. The micro USB port is backwards on the Nexus 5 as compared to the Samsung devices. Does that case allow you to flip the USB port direction or is it fixed?

This looks promising however remember that the USB port on the nexus devices are upside down compared to Samsung galaxy etc... Also the docks are not compatible

I contacted them about the orientation of the USB port and they advised me that I should order the HTC model. It should be here tomorrow and I will report back. Hopefully they can update their website to accurately reflect the Nexus 5 after I provide feedback to them. Thanks.

I had them change the order to the HTC Pop'n which is the same thing, just with the USB facing the right way for the nexus.
http://www.power-skin.com/popn/htc-battery-charger.php
While I wait to see if any of the more traditional battery case vendors come out with a nexus 5 solution, I decided to buy this charger accessory in the meantime. My need for something like this is not a daily driver. It is very specific days like traveling all day in airports or an extremely long day of kids activities where I know I will not have access to a charger. I do own one of the battery backup chargers but there are some instances where that is a pain to carry outside of a bag and still have frequent access to your phone. This PowerSkin solution seemed like the best option at this point for my needs. I've received the product this morning and so far I am pleased.
They sell two different microUSB models of this accessory with the only difference being the orientation of the micro USB connector. Note that the Nexus 5 does not have a USB port oriented in the way that other LG phones do so it is actually the HTC version of this product that has the correct orientation and not the LG model. However, it turns out that this does not matter at all if you have even the thinnest case on your Nexus 5. The default tip that comes with this case is not deep enough to penetrate through even the thinnest case and make appropriate contact in the Nexus 5 USB port. You need to have an accessory flex cable in order to use this accessory on your Nexus 5. The model number for that flex cable is PN09 and you have to request it from customer service. It is kind of a pain but it is the only thing available on the market at this point. You have to disconnect the plug that comes with this charger and connect the flex cable instead. The battery is 2000 mah so it should give us a little less than twice our battery capacity on the Nexus 5.
This is a very nice looking accessory with a glossy black finish that is entirely one piece and very smooth. There is a on off button and for LED light that give you an indication of battery capacity. It is charged using a micro USB port on the side of the battery from any standard USB charger.

Thanks a bunch for taking pictures. I have the same case and have a few questions:
1) I if you were to cut the rubber at the bottom of your case, do you think you'd be able to make the stock connector fit?
2) do the suction cups work well against both the phone and the case?

I never trust anything from Ebay. They may claim it's 5600mAh but I doubt it. If you want a power bank look on amazon for Anker or ravPower. I've used products from both companies and have never had any issues.

Mophie makes good stuff. I haven't been impressed with then lately though and don't hold out any hope for the Nexus 5. Their official word still is that they "don't know" of their iPhone 5 case is compatible with the iPhone 5s. I've had to look elsewhere for my son's phone. It is long past time for them to take a position on the 5s.

An in car charger /lead combination that actually puts charge into the phone?

Anyone know of any? I'd like to be able to use the sat nav with at least the same amount of battery after rather than considerably less even when plugged in

This is the one I use in my car. Make sure you have a good USB cable of course. Anker 18W Dual Port Car Charger @ $7.99.
I needed it for the same thing you do. I use navigation a lot, and stream music as well. It charges at the same rate as the stock Nexus 5 wall adapter/cable. It is still able to slowly charge the phone while using navigation/streaming.
Here is the newer updated 24W car charger for $12.99. It no longer has a dedicated Apple/Android port, but has power management/device detection. So just plug it in to either port and it should quick charge.

I use the Owl QI Charger. I have a slightly older model, but the company is awesome. The first version the phone would still drain. Without me even saying a word, the company contacted me and sent me a new faceplate so the phone is closer the the QI unit and now the phone charges while using google maps and playing podcasts over bluetooth.
Next the phone was doing ghost touching. The company sent me out a brand new charger at no charge and the problem was resolved.
I admit the QI charges slower than pluging in directly, but the phone does indeed charge and is incredibly convenient not having to manually attach a cable.
Here is their site. .Ships form Korea.

Go on ebay and search for "scosche revolt c2" I found this after looking for so many different chargers and this finally matched what a wanted, 2.1amp from each port and slim profile.
It's $9.99 from ebay and usually sells for like $20+ at besbuy/amazon
What about a decent cable that can handle a good 1.5 amps too?

The included micro-usb is moderately large and while it would fit in the Google "bumper" case, it would flex it quite a bit too. So if you already have problems with some cables fitting your case, that one might not be for you.
*speaking from experience with their old model, not sure about the PowerIQ version, but it looks similar.

The only problem with qi charging and sat nav together is mega heat build up. Which I don't want
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I have some short duration data to share... with music (on device) playing and gps active (and screen on the entire time), my battery monitor recorded a drain of about -800mA. When I plugged it in to the Anker it went positive, but jumped around quite a bit: 409, 701, 611, 344, 451, 292 mA. So that got it from 77% charge to 82% in about 10 minutes. My battery temp monitor only comes on at 40^ C and it did not, so heat was not an issue.

Yeah I had the same problem with the 18w at the time. I don't know why they price gouge so badly... I mean really, almost every major city in Canada is basically near the border with the US, doubling the price is ridiculous.
Luckily there was a 30% coupon I could apply at the time, so the price was only a few dollars more, but still...

I can't count the number of times I have been gouged by amazon.ca. The prices are always doubled or tripled. I usually just check amazon.com first if I ever want to buy anything. I'll check local places and Canada Computers (they usually great prices) see if they have anything similar to the anker.

HTC 10 Faulty Wall Charger

My HTC 10 wall charger stopped working all of sudden don't really know why. Does the warranty cover the charger (accessories)
I purchased my phone from Dubai Duty-Free.
They say the phone has a warranty but the charger or any other accessories aren't covered under the warranty.
If someone could confirm the same and also if anyone has any idea for a replacement charger.
Currently using dad's QC2 LG G5 charger.

Don't know about other chargers, I can only say I've had no issues with the hTC cable and an Anker QC 2.0 charger.
Hop on the hTC website and start a chat. Explain your issues with the charger.
I bought my 10 from Verizon, and I recently had issues with the charger (overheating).
hTC had no issues sending a replacement wall charger, and they were nice enough to throw in a cable as well. They were really great about it. Only issue I ran into at the time was stock. I had to wait a few weeks, and had to get on chat a few times to ask what the status was (it's what they said to do), but am very happy to say to least.
Just make sure that they know it's for the hTC 10, for whatever reason they thought it was for an hTC M8 (even though I bought that from Verizon as well) and they sent me the cable and wall charger for the M8 (which is obviously of no use to me, but they didn't want to bother with having me return it, so win-win), so I had to get back on and explain, and they saw it was their fault as you put in the device's serial # when starting the chat and they saw I did indeed input my hTC 10 serial, and wasn't sure why or how they ended up with my old M8 Serial #. (It would have made more sense if it was my M9 serial #, as I did buy that through hTC)
Hope this helps.

USB C Cable Overheated & Fried Phone
As the title of my post states, my OEM USB C Cable malfunctioned the other night, and my HTC 10 suffered a tragic demise. I woke up to my phone HOT to the touch as I unknowingly unplugged the charger from the phone. Shortly after, I noticed my capacitive buttons weren't working, so I rebooted my phone.
That's when all hell broke loose. Infinite bootloop, I can't even boot to recovery or download mode to RUU from fastboot. I then noticed the USB C Cable was swollen at the connector.
I'm pretty sure the quick charger fried the MoBo from how hot the phone was. Pics to follow later when I get home. Anyone else suffered the same as me?

Thanks, not really looking forward to receiving a refurb, but hears to hoping for a solid replacement unit.
I contacted HTC support regarding the charger, and they are sending me a new cable, no questions asked. Hopefully nobody else has any issues with their charger frying their phones. With the Note 7 recall recently, it's a little concerning with this quick charge technology. I'm just glad my phone didn't catch fire or explode.

Sorry to hear that.
Just FYI, leaving the phone plugged overnight is not a good practice at all. Specially with a quick charger. With the charger plugged, the phone never really goes to deep sleep, as a result. It would be charging and discharging throughout the night. Apps syncing on the background can make the situation worse.
It also reduces the long term life span of the battery. Not a good idea since the battery is not replacable.

Ouch, that sucks. Shouldn't happen on OEM stuff. Were you running a rom or kernel? If you were, you might want to add that so those running on stock aren't freaking out.

Nope stock HTC USB C cable that came with my phone. I was running Viper/ElementalX, which I'm not going to blame as the culprit, as I've been using that ROM/Kernel setup exclusively for the last several years, and there aren't any other cases of this happening that I've read of.
Anyways, some pics of the cable damage, it must have gotten REALLY HOT to swell up like it has.

That might throw a spanner in the works on getting a replacement device from HTC. You were running a custom kernel after all. Even if their US warranty now covers unlocking the bootloader, don't think that extends to damage by custom firmware.

could it be that viper has never dealt with quick charge 3.0 before?
Pretty sure that the quick charge stuff is controlled at the hardware level. So again, I'm not going to blame my ROM setup for the failure. I created this thread solely to inform and document a hardware failure.
I already received my replacement phone and am back up and running, so fingers crossed that I don't have anymore issues!

IMO, I would say it's the kernel or rom. You can adjust charging and voltages which could have led to this. This has not happened to anyone so far on a stock phone. It's like installing a JB4 tune on your bimmer, the modified perimeters causes harm.
I'm not trying to say you're wrong or prove a point. I just figured I'd throw in that it is possible that it could have caused your issue. Yes you've previously used EX and viper on previous phones, but this is a different phone, with different things such as QC3.0/SD820.
