You need to assign its MAC address a static IP through your router. The instructions will be different depending on the make and model of your router.

Hello
this is a bit odd, but when i try to change the DHCP to static in WIFI settings, the "connect" button becomes unavailable. Why would that be and how to fix it ?
I'm on S ii 989 with the Jedi Mind Trick 9.
thank you

Is the ip youre assigning available? Have you logged into your router to make sure you dont have an ip conflict? Have you released the lease on your DHCP IP in your router before trying to assign a static one? Are you assigning the correct gateway and subnet mask?

blackangst,
>]Is the ip youre assigning available?
yes, i enter the same IP that this device used with the stock. this includes the net mask and dns.
the behavior is odd , because the "save" ( or whatever the name on the button is ) goes inactive the moment i change the DHCP to "static"...
ohh. i'm stupid . Net length is not exactly the mask... Doh. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062792).
life is good. Question is resolved.
Hiya folks, I have a wifi connection issue with Fire Stick.
My router is TP-Link WR841N
My TV is a Samsung LE40C650LKXXU
The Fire Stick won't connect because it won't recognise the Gateway.
Any ideas, you good people?
Thank you
Cath
Use DHCP instead of a static IP.
Try a different wifi channel
FireTV 2 will not allow Custom DNS on WiFi (works on Wired)
Can someone please help verify this for me ... this problem has happened since day 1 when firmware was 5.0.2 ... I am now on 5.0.3.1 and the problem is still there.
Basically once you get to the screen where you enter the passphrase for Wifi - click on Advanced and enter a unique IP / Mask and DNS. Doing this on WIRED works - but not on Wifi. Basically, on wifi it pretends to accept it - but it does not stick.
Amazon says its not possible - which makes no sense since Apple TV / PS3 / Laptop all do that. I would understand if it did not allow it for both Wired and Wireless. But when it works for Wired but not for Wireless (both talking to the same DHCP) ... then its a bug.
You can test it by changing the Custom DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Official Google DNS) ... and then if it works - revert back to letting DHCP set it. Please let me know if it works for you.
Nobody can test this and help out a fellow FireTV user?
I did the test. It sticks. I used my own specific ip with the dns I set.

Thanks. I narrowed the bug down to it happening only when the DHCP server issues an IPv6 DNS address to the wireless adapter.
Hi
I use DNS Proxy on my Fire TV to access US Netflix.I also wanted to apply these changes to KODI as well which is also installed in the FTV. I did find a youtube link although it is when Kodi is installed in raspberrypi with openELEC (cannot post that link -newbie)
I dont have openELEC on aftv.Any other way to use DNS Proxy other than using it on the router,
I asked this to 'Smart DNS Proxy' help team.. They keep sending me the same answer (caught in Sheldon Cooper's infinite loop!).
I thought some one from here would for sure know the answer.
Thanks
You just have to config WiFi and press advanced to set ip and dns manually, have been using it for quite a while on fire tv stick but not for kodi

As I stated in my question I am using it on my Fire TV!!
But how does one get the KODI also to use the DNS by configuring KODI network settings? Because despite DNS Proxy working for Fire TV,the KODI ip still shows local ip.
I would assume fire t.v. and fire stick is about the same basically they are running on the same os anyway smart dns will not assign a wan ip to you like vpn so it is normal as long as you are pointing to their dns server and register your wan ip in their server using a browser login from your lan, but have you checked smartdnsproxy supports kodi plugins that you are using?

I too assumed so. But sites which don't open up with local ip remain shut with DNS Proxy. It led me to believe that Kodi is not using the DNS Proxy at all. Any thoughts?
my fire tv 2nd gen is showing 2 diff. ip's but one mac address in my router attached devices window . netgear WNDR4300v2

Do you have a different launcher by chance? The reason I ask is mine shows that same ip address when using Halauncher if I enable "show ip" in settings. I can only adb into it using the ip I get from settings.
