i want to enable softkeys on my note 2, i am running CM11, and when i try to edit the build.prop file with a root explorer it doesnt let me, i need to grant root access to the app, but it doesnt ask for the permission, and i have looked into the superuser app to find an option to grant the permissions myself to the explorer, but i havent seen any option, any help would be appreciated.

Tried ES file explorer? Tried rebooting (actually works sometimes)?

I have lost SU permissions for the Root Explorer program. Now it just tells me it can't get root access and to restart the app, and continues to do so. It will not give me the popup to grant permission.
I had it working just fine.
Any ideas?
Go into the superuser app and click root explorer then forget and then open the app and youll have a popup
Already tried that and the popup does not come back.
Uninstall and reinstall root explorer?
Sent from my Droid Incredible running Myn's Warm Two Point Two RLS4.
In my haste on my freshly rooted Nexus, I used Titanium Backup to uninstall some apps I don't use that I know I can get from the market if I ever wanted them, but I got a bit quick and uninstalled the stock Email app instead of freeze it (in case I ever wanted to use it). I did a factory reset but that doesn't bring it back so my question is, can anyone post the apk and tell me where to put it to get it back? I think the proper location is /system/app, is that correct? Thanks.
Yep, /system/app. There are two APKs with the Email icon: EmailGoogle.apk and ExchangeGoogle.apk. I've attached both as a ZIP.
Thanks a lot!
OK so I'm still a bit new to this. I used root explorer to mount /system/app as r/w and changed the permissions on the EmailGoogle.apk to rwxr--r--. I already have ExchangeGoogle.apk. I have enabled "allow non-market apps" in my settings but I'm still getting "application not installed" when i try to install it. What am I missing? I used the RootToolkit to unlock and root my Galaxy Nexus, but I do have some experience using adb from the past with rooting my Droid. Do I need adb to install this?

You won't be able to install it, just use a root explorer (such as ES File Explorer) to manually copy the file to /system/app, it should then show up as installed.
Ah ok. I did a reboot and it's still not in my app drawer.

I wasn't thinking; you'll need the ODEX as well. I've attached both files, just copy them both into /system/app and let me know if that works.
That did it! Excellent!
So I rooted my SII and flashed the 3.0.7 of superuser and it seems to work fine for titanium backup. However when I installed HexEditor by Tuba and opened it, it does not ask for super user permissions.
Thanks.
Install busybox. Apps on market for hat
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I installed busybox and it still didn't work. I checked if I am rooted properly and I am, other apps that require superuser are working but file managers that need it do not ask for superuser.
I am having the same exact problem..I cant access the /data file in there either because it doesn't ask for superuser access
I know this is a rather obvious solution but.. have you rebooted your phone? Sometimes when I install root apps from the market and open them directly from there it doesn't request super user access until I reboot and open the app again after startup..

didnt work...i wish it did maybe its a glitch in the hex editor app before the newest update when i went to the /data file the only two options it had was back and /data but i couldnt go past the second /data screen and even then it didnt ask for superuser permission, now it shows in the second screen / /.. 'ermission denied and if i go to the settings menu and try to click on Root Permissions it says "can't change shell".
it does work
Start the application and press the Menu button then press Settings and you will see Root permissions mark it and it will show you the Superuser dialog.
It was so easy it made me feel dumb
i have tried that i have also made sure that i was rooted over and over again when i go to hex editor settings i click root permissions it says "can't change shell"
I backed up and then deleted my play store using titanium backup but when I went to restore it it wouldn't let me. So I tried to move it to system/apps using a few file explorers like root explorer,Es explorer and super manager but non of them let me put system folder into rw mode , and yes I did give all of them root rights. I also tried to use the adb command on the terminal with su rights but that did nothing, does anyone have any advice besides reseting my phone.i am also running Jedi mind trick x3(i know I need to update)

In ES, you have to go to 'Root Explorer' under 'Tools', then 'Mount R/W', then use the radio buttons to give it write permissions (given that you have root already).

I have this problem too! I am currently trying to uninstall the system youtube app because it wont let me install the new 5.0 update without doing that as I have a modded youtube apk. I am on AOKP custom ROM
So my problem is that I can't edit build.prop. Already mounted r/w and I have tried root explorer and different build.prop editors but changes do not save.

Yep it's rooted. Do you mean that try to edit with adb?
There is something wrong with root. Most of the apps works fine with root permissions (titanium, set cpu) but some apps says that they cant get root permissions even if super su says root permissions granted. At the moment root is from twrp but I have also tried rooting with root genius with same results.
