[Q] Zipped Flashable Ouya System App's??? - Ouya Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there one that anybody made for those of us on CM? I'd love to get Ouya Launcher and Store back, so far no other complaints about CM11 though...

Sorry, but what you're asking for doesn't exist. The Ouya stuff is way too tightly integrated into the stock ROM, and I doubt anyone is ever going to put forth the effort to rip it all out (if it's even possible at all). You're better off just waiting to see if the whole Ouya experience stuff will mean an installable Android app whenever it's released.

I have to agree with this too, the best bet would be to wait for an ouya provided "ouya experience" apk, and slip that in alongside Cyanogenmod.

[Q] New Sense from Desire HD

May be a stupid question, but is there anyway to extract the new version of sense from the HD Rom and add it to a EVO rom so we can have the new sense and all our other phone features working?

I think having just sense rosie, lock, music, etc is what he was talking about. A flashable zip to update your current Rom, not a camera broken port. I would love the same.
I believe is not possible since they haven't done it yet , but maybe we get an update with the new sense which imo it was supposed to be for froyo since all the features like backup all the apps is a froyo thing and we didn't get it in ours cause they wanted to show this.phone with 2.2 asap, and not another deal beaker like the hero

no thats not what he was asking if you take what he said at face value. he was asking something that he could have had an answer for just by searching or manually looking at pages past page 1

Im glad you know what people are meaning to ask
I would hope, that everything said is taken at face value and people don't try to look for some hidden message
I know about the roms floating around out there, have flashed a couple, but they all have something broken, hence "having all our phone features working." A flashable zip would be the ticket, that way we could update whichever rom we prefer using...
HTC weaves sense into android very deeply so it's easier said then done, but people are still working on it so it could happen. Even so if HTC sticks to their pattern and releases another towards the end of the month they may beat us to it. Either way it's not something you're likely to see in a flashable zip that can update ROMs, it's too drastic of a change.
Difficult :/
I have been working on such a thing for almost two weeks now. It started when I just wanted the new music ui. I tried porting that and then I found that after porting it wouldnt show up in the programs list so i needed to modify some files to get it in there. I got that far only to find that it would crash on opening. Further investigation showed that when you open the app it also loads the matching widget and DLNA stuff. I proceeded to port both of those also to find that the DLNA stuff requires a customized wifi stack. Still havnt fixed that but I also found that all of them rely on the HTC copyright apk which cannot coexist with the one already on the EVO that everything elce uses. Simply put, it would just be easier to port over everything than just parts. Sorry bud

Ditto, similar thing happened with me trying to port the "People Widget". Just to much stuff is tied together. In the meantime I am working on an app for Comcast Voice.

Xoom Market on Evo possible?

So the market looks a bit different on the xoom.. is there any way to get that version functional on the Evo? There are tablet specific apps that I would like to be able to see as well which don't come up and I would like to be able to see/rate/purchase them.

Not until someone gets the OS version ported. Reportedly, a few people are working on a Honeycomb rom for us to play with and once that gets done it probably won't be all that difficult to get the market working on it.

Will Ouya Have Android Launcher?

Hi everyone im thinking about buying an ouya but i wanted to know if you can acess the android launcher?
Thanks In advance!
Probably not. But since it's hackable I'm sure it's possible one way or another.

No they are using a modified version of ics with a completely customised front end as opposed to just a launcher that can be replaced.
However there will be modders who can make it access traditional android launcher and play store but no it won't officially and will only do so unofficially once people have had device to hack it.

Yes it will
The odk has a launcher with framework. It is available on their website.
didn't they say its fully open source and rooted? im sure someone will bring different launchers to the console, maybe not a day after the release, but im pretty sure that will be possible. Now the question is, most of our launchers are touch-based, i can not imagine how you can use them with a gamepad.

Plug in a PS3 or Xbox controller to your Android device and you'll find out Most, if not all, launchers work with a controller. Hitting the navigation pad/stick moves from one icon to the next.

It's not fully open source.
http://www.ouya.tv/the-o-word/
Please note that we’re still working on releasing the source code for various elements of the ODK — and since some of it is compiled object code, you won’t have access (at least not today) to every single line we’ve written. We want to be sure things are in really great shape before we release code. Also, we will be holding back some sections of the code to preserve the security of OUYA, especially when it comes to payments for developers and gamers.

It is fully rootable, but it doesn't come rooted.
For hackers: root it. Go ahead. Your warranty is safe. Even the hardware is hackable. Want to get inside? You’ll need a standard screwdriver and nothing more. Go to town. We have standard USB ports and Bluetooth, so you’ll even be able to create your own peripherals.

So it looks like it will be some heavily modified android UI, like the original kindle fire?
It's not locked down in any way so I'm pretty sure someone will code a custom launcher for it. May not be ADW or NOVA but I am sure someone will make one.
i don't know that, but we can wait for the cm stock rom
Do you think they are ever gonna update it to android 4.1 or 4.2? Or is that just a waste.

looks like a hybrd of a cross bar system and the old style app menu, looked very nicely done though. is that the one you saw?
I could have sworn that an official from the team said something about stock launchers. The product is supposedly going to be launched with an easily unlocked mechanism for quick and powerful tweaking. This is supposed to be day one. Keep up on their blog, and ask for this on their social channels, my advice. They are definitely involved c:

That's what I'm hoping on O.O it's no fun having all of the games I like to purchase in a tiny little folder. No es fun :c
Love android
I would love to play an android game on my TV console that too in an Android launcher, preferrably JB
I would pay if ADW, Nova or Apex created a OUYA specific launcher...

If you want the ouya launcher download the SDK from OUYA.tv and install the framework and launcher via regular side load. Proven to work on the nexus 7 and I can vouch for the Nook tablet 16GB from first hand experience. Does not look good on a phone though. In order to run the latest addition you need android 4.1+

I sideloaded Nova Launcher very easily onto my Ouya. No modification needed. Works great. Little difficult to navigate with the controller, but definitely doable. Can access your Ouya games there and everything. Much more smooth than the Ouya launcher, that's for sure.

[Q] Best FREE UI Customization Apps?

I wasn't sure where else to put this, so I put this here.
I am a person who absolutely LOVES tweaking their UI. If I'm not doing something, I'll try to find a way to tweak it. If I AM doing something, I probably will still find a way to tweak it xD. Now, I know about launchers and custom roms and such (On my Nexus 7 2013 I have Paranoid Android and I'm using the Apex Launcher), but I want to know about the best and most powerful FREE UI changing apps, modules, whatever there is. (The reason I'm not using Google for this is because I'm really unlucky with Google and I find like nothing I want or need, and I'd rather get help from an actual person).
Thanks!

[Q] Looking for data on stability of major ROMS

Is there any good data on which of the major ROMs are most trouble free?
I am a pretty simple guy. All I really want is to be able to use my phone as a hotspot, take pictures without the camera app crashing and easy access to turn the torch on and off. Seems like a lot of the reviews spend a lot of time focusing on how many colors you can change and relatively little on the actually reliability of the ROM. This sort of leaves us asking eachother and it seems like everyone and their brother has an opinion on how stable any given ROM is and all swear by different ones.
At any rate, this just leaves me wondering if there is actually any good reviews or sources that summarize what the weeknesses of each ROM are. I know it is a tricky thing to ask, because they are always changing with each nightly build, but I have been pulling my hair out for the last couple years trying to find a properly stable ROM for my T999.
They cant really review stability and functionality on some roms, such as CM for example. Its going to be different for every model device, and even between 2 identical model devices you will still find one has issues while another does not. Thats why they usually stick to reviewing features and options. But also, what works best will vary from person to person even more so than from one device to the next. As is stated in all the "what's the best rom" threads, only you can determine what suits your needs best.
But for what its worth, imo, if its stability you're after, stick to whatever the manufacturer included on any given device.

I would stick with the stock rom, but I just really don't like it. I have also gotten very used to using a more stock version of Android and don't want to have to adjust back to using the stock rom, even if there are ways to get tethering to work.

What don't you like about the stock ROM? You say you want simple and don't care about changing anything, but you're not happy with stock either. What do you really want? lol. Also note, than any other ROM is not going to have the Samsung camera app, they are all going to be a lot more basic camera's, no wifi calling if you use that t-mo feature.
Torch on and off can be accessed with a shortcut on stock ROM, any third party app that lets you add a widget, or if you install xposed framework, you can add torch to the volume up button, so you can turn the torch on without even waking the phone. I'm with Doc, I'm a Touchwiz kind of guy too. I don't get the hate for it.
I just don't like some of the extra junk Samsung adds on. I like a more stripped down vanilla Android. I originally switched yo get rid of sVoice in particular and just got used to it. Not needing extra apps for WiFi tethering is a nice bonus.
At any rate. Just totally wiped the phone back to stock with Odin and installed the latest AOKP. No problems yet.
You can strip the Samsung apps out, and there is mods to enable native tethering.. But aosp or the kind is a nice option as well, just depends on what you want and need

Thinly veiled best ROM thread. SlimKat with Banks' minimal gapps.
I don't use my S3 anymore, but I have that ROM on it and my other two devices. It is filed under d2lte on their site, it's a unified build.
If you have kernel problems, use ktoonsez'. That one was always really solid.

I never figured out what was causing problems with my last ROM. TBH, I don't even recall what the kernel and ROM combination was. It was just something some random XDA forum member suggested. The biggest issue is that every time I opened the camera app, went away from it and came back, it would crash. Also happened when switching between camera and video. Sometimes it would require a system reset to get the camera back. I think it was something to do with the app itself, cause other apps that took pictures never had any problems. Super annoying. There were some other issues to. I stuck it out for a long time because the app fixed a BT audio issue I was having and I was too lazy to do more searching or reflashing my phone from scratch.
Right now I am just trying to make my phone last until the Sony Z3 launches. I am pretty sure that will be my next phone. Hopefully it won't cost a crazy amount to import it if t-mobile doesn't get it right away.

AOSP camera was always crap in general but especially so on the S3.
You can get an updated on in the play store now, so you can freeze the AOSP one.

The camera in the latest AOKP was working fine, but I downloaded the Google Camera app just to check it out. Works fine taking normal pictures, but the blur mode causes it to crash when you try to take a picture and the panorama/photosphere modes won't take pictures. I found some other people with identical problems, but didn't see a clear solution.

It was originally for the Nexus 5, then they put it on the play store for everyone. Clearly issues with non Google devices.
I'd suggest a third party camera app, like Camera ZOOM or something.
