Looking at the Nokia X General forum here, there are multiple threads on how to root the Nokia X, of which basically all involve the use of closed-source applications. This makes me feel kinda icky, and I'd much rather use something that is free and open source. Apparently Koushik Dutta's Superuser app (to which I can't post a link, even if the thing is hosted on GitHub, because apparently preventing new users from posting links is a great way to combat spam...) is a free and open source way to root Android devices. Has anyone tested this on the Nokia X? Did it work?
this app can root nokia x??

Splendid! Hzu, are you able to post a detailed, newbie-friendly walkthrough as to how to do this? The X is my first Android-based smartphone and I'd be lying if I said I'm experienced with flashing the firmware of a phone.
In the X General forum, there's a thread titled "Nokia x Android usb driver"; from that and various other sources I gather that the USB driver's a necessity, but:
What operating systems are supported?
Is there a more official source for the USB driver?
Would the standard drivers provided with the Android SDK do?
1. I have tried with Windows 7 only.
2. As far as I know, no.
3. I'm not sure as the drivers are always specific. The drivers from the SDK should only be for use by the emulator(?).
All you have to do is flash the CWM recovery and install the superuser zip file through it. See the Nokia X Original Android Development forum for the CWM recovery.

Hello everyone.
I've been busy studying for my CIEs. And I'll soon be free from my exams. So I want to know what Nokia X users out there want for their devices?
I mean any type of MOD which you might want. Or a third party app. Or any stuff like that.
Comment with your ideas below and let's see what our brilliant devs can help you with.
- a way to dismiss the blue notification bar on top
- native file manager app
- option to uninstall mobile broadcast since not many countries are using it. hey,it's the first time I ever seen it in a phone.
- is autofocus possible?
thanks. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Android 4.4
auto focus
4.4.x
Well, if you wanna know what i want (perhaps all of you are in the same opinion with me) at least some of these minuses can be resolve and we can be use them as default on our X device, such as:
Flash player
Live Wallpapers
WMV Codec
VP8 video coded
WebP image coded
I hope devs will do that by create stable, and smooth costom rom.
I love my Nokia X and it's very sad if my device couldn't be as great as other androids.

1. The blue notification bar is currently with stock rom. However, if you flash CM 11 or other custom ROMs, you'll have the original android bar.
2. Which file manager do you want? Name it and I'll provide.
3. You can do that by simply, going into system-->app and deleting the Mobile Broadcasting app. (Requires Root).
4. I'm sorry that won't be possible as it's a hardware setback.

I believe the developer is already working hard on it. So why don't you wait a few days and let's see if he can deliver?
He even says he's working on a new kernel for the Nokia X. Exciting. No?
Users who wanted to change their notifications bar, check this out. Maybe it'll help: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.calsto.statusbar.jb

1. I just want a way to dismiss it. I dont want my nokia X to look like vanilla android. it would be pointless to have nokia X if I uses vanilla android theme
2. does nokia X have its own file manager? seeing brand name on an app drives my mind mad. ASTRO,ES, and all that
3. I dont want to root yet. not just to delete some apps.
4. cant do anything about that, then.

Sent from my Nokia_X using XDA Free mobile app
Calendar, etc
What i really miss from my samsung is:
1. autoreject sms and calls
2.native calendar without going into ms account
3.important sms locker
thanks for your hard work.

Our dev, David Cruz is working on that and he shall soon have it plus a custom kernel. So stay tuned.
I'm running MultiROM Manager in combination with TWRP to run CM11 nightly and CarbonROM. I downloaded the Ubuntu daily preinstalled .zip from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/current/ and then flashed it and the flashing failed. So I downloaded the M7-ubuntu-conf.zip from http://d-h.st/nso (in accordance with the official forum) and then flashed it and then flashed the Ubuntu daily preinstalled again and it still didn't work. What am I doing wrong? I downloaded it from cdimage because that is a bit more up-to-date than the forum as cdimage has 14.10 Utopic Unicorn while the forum has 13.10 Saucy Salamander. Do I need to download the Saucy Salamander .zip from the forum in order for it to work? If so, can I update it to 14.10 (or at least 14.04 Trusty Tahr) like I did with Ubuntu desktop (downloaded 13.10 to my laptop and updated to 14.04 before 14.04's official release)?
Thanks!

As a general rule, if something does not explicitlly state it is designed to run on the Verizon version of the HTC One M7, then it probably will give you nothing but headaches if you attempt to install it on a Verizon-issued HTC One M7.
Stick to downloads offered in threads in this Forum.

If I edit build.prop (obviously backing it up first) and change all the instances of "m7vzw" (excluding in the CyanogenMod ROM name) to "m7" would it still work? If it wouldn't work, would I be able to change some sort of file inside TWRP to make it identify my phone as an m7 and not an m7vzw?

Come on! Faking your phone's ID might enable you get past some ID-ch. ecking by an installation script, but neither the software nor the hardware will be altered to be compatible one with the other. All you will accomplish is putting lipstick on a pig.

"lipstick on a pig" lol I haven't heard that one before. Anyway, is there a Ubuntu Touch M7VZW ROM out there and if not, could I alter the ROM to install on my phone? Clearly it won't be perfect, as not even the M7 ROM at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/M7 is perfect.

If you're a developer, go ahead and modify some ROM to suit the M7VZW's requirements. If you aren't, then delve into the score of ROMs already offered in this Forum.
The only Ubuntu Touch you'll find that sort of works on the Verizon m7, is located here.

I have still been working on it but i have had many issues that are taking time to resolved but marked it as abandoned as i do not have much time to work on it so it will be awhile probably wont be stable until end of year.
If what you're trying to install (aside from an app) does not specifically say it is valid for the Verizon edition of the HTC One (aka m7vzw), you'd best assume it ain't gonna work.
The N1 run android x86 system. but dont have any google play service. and look like Nokia does not lock the recovery mode. so, I just think that can Nokia N1 run the intel x86 android 5.0.2? does anyone know how to do that?
Nokia N1 has Android 5.0.2 out of the box. Not sure what you're trying to ask.

I'm new for Android device. I found the Nokia didn't lock bootloader. I think it should brush other 5.0.2 rom/system for similar hardware. right now, I got the android x86 iso, Just dont know I can use it to brush my N1 or not.
Why don't you just install the Google Play Store, the Nokia is already running a vanilla version of Android 5.02. My Nokia is working just fine using the Play Store hack found in the other threads, did you even bother reading anything else before posting?
Hello Friends,
I got a Karbonn Titanium Machfive for testing purpose to install Linux on it but then I gave it to one of my family member to use. It was full of adwares, then I applied few restrictions using certain settings. It worked fine for few months though kept on saying installation blocked>> keep clicking ok, which was again quite frustrating. Anyhow, it got updated and now full of adwares of all kind. I wish to install custom ROM now to get rid of those spywares, adwares. Trust me its my second and last device from Karbonn.
Anyone using custom ROM on their device? What all can be installed along with the procedure. I was able to locate this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/how-to-install-custom-recovery-karbonn-t3179181
But it doesn't say about different customer ROMs, would you please discuss your ROM and method to follow the procedure. ?
I did find 2-3 links on google but not sure if we are allowed to post 3rd Party links on XDA. They say to root using
Mobile Uncle Tools, Maxthon-Root-Tool.apk>> How trustworthy all these tools are? What are the best trustworthy tools to root the devices? Along with the most compatible ROMs for this device.
? No one?
Development has not started yet for this Device. So, we can't expect any further Rom requests or anything.
PS: Just block ads with hosts blocker and disable some stock apps like file manager, install helper.apk, launcher and third-party search console.
Ads won't bother you If you do above things.

It can't be used as a daily driver. Nice project, but it needs more people... Several years have passed and only one or two phone models are working good enough to be used as main devices.
