Hey everyone, haven't been "'a while cuz things were running well.
As of about 4 days ago my TMo galaxy S2 T989 Hercules started acting weird.
Oh, I'm "ing AOCP 6.4.1 by The Collective version 4.3.1. Well it started acting like I had a virus or some spyware or something. The browser wouldn't act right won't stay open, freeze, 'y but it wouldn't power into boot. So, pulled battery, recovery, wipe, wipe, wipe, flash ROM, reboot, flash gapps, things are good. Almost forgot, I'm using TWRP as recovery. The ROM and gapps files are the same ones I downloaded and flashed last November after the new build was released.
Well not for long.
I started having problems trying to download my apps from TiBu or Play store. The phone says I don't have enough storage. So, I'm looking and wondering how that can be when I've only reinstalled less than half of the apps I had before. 1.87 GB of memory. 97 MB available 250MB uaed for apps and media (numbers are not acaccurate but very close) so I moved all the apps I could to SD and out of 16GB I have 8.5 GB available. And external SD 32GB card 29.6 actual with 11.9 GB available. I couldn't get it to raise the system memory no matter what I deleted or moved
So I thought maybe something like I missed wiping data or dalvik and who knows.
So I rewiped and reflashed again and now I'm down to 27MB of free storage and over 300 MB for apps and media, I can download and install almost anything I want as long as it goes to SD card so i used ROM toolbox to set all apps to be downloaded to SD card and all but a couple installed fine. I couldnt get SuperSU to install. Kept saying the storage has no room or the URI wasn't correct. I can't sync my gmail accounts on my phone. I need help. What do I do? What is this and how do I stop it before it takes over the world?
What twrp version?
And are you wiping "system" before flashing?
And here is a long post I made in a similar thread.

I finally took the plunge and rooted my dInc using Unrevoked 3. Went smoothly, and confirmed I am rooted by running Titanium Backup. Did a full backup of apps and data.
However, now, and for the first time ever, I'm getting that blasted "Application data space is low. To free up... ". When I click on it, it just takes me to the running apps screen.
I have not installed any ROMs, kernels, or anything else. I ONLY rooted. That damn low data space icon is driving me nuts!
According to the Storage space menu, I have:
SD Card - Total Space 14.83 GB
Available Space 1.61 GB
Internal Phone Storage - Total Space 6.60 GB
Available Space 6.28 GB
Phone Memory: Total Space 748 MB
Available Space 556 MB
So, what's the problem? How can I resolve this? Thanks.
Flash a rom. Recommend redemptive revolution rom. Make sure to do a full wipe of cache and data in recovery.

I've had that issue before, but I seemed to fix any problem like that with my rom (in the signature). It's stripped of bloated software, ect. Usually that app data space is low is due to the ram filled, at least in my experiences. I end all my current running processes and /or reboot, and the issue is resolved.
I'd think a custom rom shouldn't be needed to alleviate the low app data space issue. I was considering a rom, but I was hoping to resolve this issue before I ventured down that route.
I did delete some bloatware. Nothing critical - VZ Navigator, City ID, and... maybe one more.
Check the size of your HTC Mail and your Gmail contact caches. I used "clean dalvik cache" in titanium backup donate version and it opened up quite a bit of memory.
The fact that you rooted is probably just a coincidence. This is a known problem and you probably don't have as much memory as you think in the phone memory. You can also use App2SD to move more apps to your SD card but have to be careful with that.
I noticed your internal phone storage is almost unused. I have the same problem. Would be nice if there was an app to move apps to the internal phone storage.
Have fun with your new incredible. Try out Hyrda Kernals Stock undervolt kernal to start out with along with wireless tether to enjoy free wifi! I just did it on mine and it is awesome.
Hey,
So over last weekend I installed the RCMixS rom, and it works good, for the most part.
I experience the following bugs first of all:
-Random restarts
-Randomly deletes alarms
-Lockscreen screws up sometimes (GO SMS Pro icon doesnt show sometimes)
-HTC Flipclock does always shows old time for a split second after bypassing lock screen
Also, I have barely installed any apps, and I have only 16MB left... I was able to install more apps using the stock software with the desire :s
Finally, I only have about ~100MB free of memory, no matter what. On the only stock software, I had close to ~250MB free usually.
Anyways, im new to roms and rooting. Is this normal? I was under the impression after I root I would get rid of all the HTC crapware and have more free space... but apparently not? Is there a better rom with HTC sense 2.1/3.0 mix out there?
Thanks!
Hmmm? Anyone?
Wow, ok. Thought this would of been replied to by now since I read it last night (sorry).
Anyway, bugs. There will always be bugs in software, especially software that is ported and is a hybrid rom, being Sense 2.1/3.0.
As for storage. The internal storage is ****. By the time you install the rom and nothing else you will have about ~130MB of internal memory available. That's where A2SD comes in. By default, when you flashed the rom it would of installed an A2SD script so no matter what apps you install, you have enough memory for it. You can't see how much space is available by going into your settings, you'll need a file explorer or an app that can read the ext partition.

Oh okay, but I keep getting the low-space message, anyway to fix that?
Yeh. Use a2sd. Did you create an ext partition when you flashed the rom? Like I said by default it installs one. The rom shouldn't even boot without it.

Yup, I created a 1GB ext3 partition.
is a2sd an app from the market?
nah!! its not an app..its a feature..a2sd stands for applications to sd card..most of the apps that you install can be moved to fat32 partition of your sd card..you vil find a .android.secure.blah blah name folder on fat 32 partition..But if you use custom roms which have a2sd+ feature then the apps will be stored in sd-ext partition of your card...
A2sd+ is useful because even if you connect your phone to pc via disk storage mode, you can access all the apps whereas the opposite happens when you use only a2sd...ie you cant access apps when connected in disk storage mode!!
Hmm, so apps are automatically moved? But i keep getting the low storage warning on the desire

Right,
First things first, where are you?
Secondly, when did you get the phone?
If you're in the UK and you got the phone in June/July/August/September 2010 then the chances are your phone is faulty and that is the cause of the reboots. I had this happen to me so I'm going by experience here. I got a new phone and the problems completely disappeared.
Secondly, if you're running out of room:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110921
http://uploadingit.com/file/t7etuhfk1zj4hwog/RCMixS_v2.0_D2EXT_Wmjan.part1.rar
http://uploadingit.com/file/i2wdwu9xmuledzer/RCMixS_v2.0_D2EXT_Wmjan.part2.rar
Download those modified versions of this ROM and use that as it gives Data2EXT instead of A2SD+. So instead of giving the ROM 1GB of the SD card and still running out of space, you give it 1GB of SD and don't run out of space.

I live in Canada, and I bought the phone August 2010 from TELUS.
So basically, its the ROM thats glitching? I just need to use a different ROM? Does that mean I have to reinstall a new ROM and re-download my apps and settings?
Thanks!
Hi all,
Running a bit low on storage space at the moment.
In settings it says that I have 66mb internal mem free for apps but when I try to download and install an app like Google goggles (roughly 5 mb) it says internal memory low
Cleared cache on Google Play store and dalvik cache using supercharger (if that helps) but that didn't help... any suggestions?
On another note, if I install link2sd does my stock kernel ICS .562 support a ext4 partition?
Cheers!
Im getting the same issue here. Im running Official ICS and have deleted the bloatware and un-needed system apps.
My internal says 56mb but cant install apps without deleting one or two that i dont use or move to sd.

Try a RAM/cache cleaner from the market, there are a few free good ones. And yes, ext4 is supported.
Sceptical of so many memory "fixes" I did grab one for the market, Memory Booster Lite (Tablet) by Imoblife Inc. I thought I don't need more menory I need more space, was down to 37 megs out of 252 after moving all I could to SD, and only installed not even 20 apps. After install not even a reboot, back up to 122. I sure hope that some fixes are in the works for ICS updates as the internal memory on my GB 2.3.6 phone is 1.5 gigs and again only 252 megs on my ICS 4.03 tablet. When someone comes up with a way to "partition magic" these parts let me know becasue this is nuts.
Thanks again for the insight as I can now continue to load up my tablet with useless stuff

Thanks for your response. I have tried quite a few of these cleaners but they don't really do the job for me. Ram/cache cleaners seem to be temporary and for cache it just builds itself up again after a reboot.
Managed to delete some useless system apps/data which has also sped up my system quite a bit.
I will give the ext4 a try when I get some time.
Cheers,
I also have the same problem but worse I only use about 7 phone only apps roughly 50mb altogether and it says I only got 9% (about 36mb) left.
Last time this happened I wiped my phone, but as the weeks go by the free memory keeps going down even though I don't install anything else.
I currently use zdbox task killer & official Sony rom.
If someone can find a solution to this, please tell.

i think you can try use ext 2 if problem with ext4..
or you can partition your sd card via recovery, and give swap memory about 256MB..
install link2 sd aplication and then choose ext 2 (first time you open link2sd app)
and reboot your phone..
and from link2sd app you can move all apps to sd card..
you can also make link2sd automatic link your apps..
you should use the app link2sd to solve that problem...
Don't think you understand.. all the apps I installed in the phone should only take about 10% memory including cache etc.
I rooted and pretty much moved every app. The only ones that stayed were for stability reasons such as smart keyboard or beautiful widgets.
Basically only solution I found so far is a hard reset, but after about 4 months it will be back to 9% again.

Hello folks
My issue is this:
GSM Desire
Class 10 SD
4ext Recovery (used to partition sd)
I'm trying to install various JB roms. The a2sd never works. When I download the gui it says it can't start because either no scripts, no partition, etc.
I've tried a lot of Roms including ones where a2sd is meant to be built in. I've also installed from Terminal and it seems to optimise all the apps on reboot but internal memory is still the standard and apps still in Internal (it's meant to go up to my ext4 partition right? it's about 1.5G)
I've worked my way through these (can't post the link but its the Alchemister custom rom blogspot for the Desire.)
each one the same problem.
Checkext and diskspace both see the partition. Strangely, L2SD seems to crash each of the Roms if I install it.
So far the only Rom to work correctly is a Supernova Gingerbread one. It gave me the 1.5G. So, the partition appears to be good.
Both are primary too.
I would like a JB one as the supernova rom is very laggy.
Running a Miui at the moment and also really liked the Touchwiz one on the list as well.
I only started doing this two days ago as my contract was up so I'm very new to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Let's make sure your partition works. Download the rom in my sig. It's a very stable rom, that has a script integrated that moves data/app and dalvik cache to sd-ext. Flash it, then install a few apps. If the internal storage gets filled up quickly, then it probably is a partition fault, and you'll have to repartition.
If it does work, then you did something wrong when you installed the other roms.
Are you sure you did a full wipe before installing all those roms?
a2sd problem solved
Thankyou Andoo,
I've got it working now. It was two things that were confusing me. They were mentioned in the partitioning guide that you attached.
1. I was not aware that you were not meant to see the full size of your Ext4 partition as internal storage. For anyone else with this problem, you can see how your Ext partition is being used if you download Freespace app from the market. I had assumed that you could see the ext as internal space as that is what a few of the earlier Roms i looked at said that that would happen. (it does for the Supernova Rom)
2. When I was downloading and installing apps such as FB or Maps, they were still taking a big chunk out of my internal memory so I assumed that it wasn't working. However, when I chose to put the data as well as cache to the Ext, it hardly took anything out of my internal storage at all. I have a class 10 card and so far everything seems fairly brisk and responsive. I Chose Y/Y/Y when installing a2sd from Terminal instead of the recommended Y/N/Y.
If things start to get slow, I might try the Mount2SD script in the attachment -I think this allows you to chose individual large apps to go to Ext instead of all of them.
Thanks again for your help. I now have a useful and quick phone again.
PS the MildWild 9.5 Rom you suggested - I hadinstalled this before and had real problems with the WiFi disconnecting every couple of seconds and the same thing happened again when I installed from your link. I'm using the Touchwiz at the moment and all seems well.

Hi guys,
I don't know what's happening with my gf's wildfire S. How much space should be left free after flashing a rom (with gapps)? I've tried couple and all I've got left is around 50MB from fresh install and around 30MB after auto updates. Is this normal?
I've done everything I could to free more space. Moved most apps to ext4 partition on a SD card but. Deleted a lot of unnecessary things but still she's got like 5MB space left on internal memory with 5 apps installed and moved to SD card.
WTF? She wants to kill me for messing with her phone and not helping.
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45401294 tried couple of roms but no luck. As of now MarvellousSense][2.3.5 sense 2.1]( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256576 ) is installed but same low memory problem. (((((((((((((

1. Using a "minimal" GApps package will help a little
2. The device has only 150MB internal storage. Even if you use mini Gapps you will not have more than ~80MB
3. To solve the problem just use a rom that is int2ext compatible. 512MB (Will be the new storage amount) is a good and reliable size for the ext partition (If you dont know about setting up the sd for int2ext --> google it as i'm tired of typing instructions for questions that are solved a houndred times...)
4. Stock rom int2ext compatible can be found LINK
5. Want a newer android version? CM 10.1 ran reliable for a long time on my WFS
6. MAKE SURE TO READ AND UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING BEFORE FLASHING
7. NEVER MESS UP YOUR GIRL'S DEVICE

I would suggest to try this ROM-- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50428735&postcount=1404
It's odexed and has a 100 MB free space in /data after installation. BTW you will have to find some slim Gapps from somewhere as it does not have much /system memory free. Flashing Gapps have nothing to do with your visible internal memory. As system apps are stored in system partition(you can't see it as internal memory). And I would suggest to use Link2SD to move apps to 2nd partition of SDCard(you will have to create it but there are good tutorials like-- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432459 ). With this configuration I have 87 MB free space after installing about 20 apps. So it should work. Best of luck.
