Has anyone noticed XBMC being really dark? I am on this version xbmc-20140518-a6a2713-Gotham-armeabi-v7a.apk
I may be wrong but I think it may have started after I installed fusion. The screen is really dark, not just for moving but for all XBMC screens. Other apps on the firetv look just fine.
Thanks

sometimes it does that on boxes I program. Just exit out and then go back in and it should clear up. If that doesnt do it, change the skin and then change back.

I am currently using CM10.1 by OWL Project. It was a very nice ROM, smooth and all. But, somehow when I go into Settings>Apps, the the app does not fit the entire screen(The sides are black, and the app is very small, leaving a lot of space between the app and my Wildfire S's screen). Also, Youtube in Browser does not work. When I click on the video, it would goto full screen and then suddenly go back to normal, and the video was said to have finished playing. I wonder if anybody else had the same issues as me? Thanks to anybody who would reply to this post.
It's a bug....all of the users have it,CM10.1 is still a work in progress...you have to be a little patient as the developers are working on it
Hey everyone,
I have come across only one issue with the nexus 7 2013 which is related to its screen. Wallpapers and icons look perfectly fine and so do still images even when zoomed in. However, every time I play a YouTube video in HD, the screen cant handle the moving picture and everything becomes slightly jagged, rough edges. Nothing stays smooth. Text seems choppy and kind of pixelated. I replaced 2 nexus 7s already and still experience the same issue with the third one.
If any of you have experienced the same issue please reply. Any kind of explanation would be appreciated. I love the device itself and don't want to give it up for this issue.
Thanks in advance

The problem is with the latest YouTube app update. Uninstall the latest update and it will look amazing. You can uninstall the update from settings > apps > YouTube.

Thank you very much for your help, issue has been resolved.
Just picked up a stick today at bestbuy to maybe use in basement or kitchen. I could find this out for myself but other than setting up Netflix and kodi i might not get around to using it soon. Can anyone recommend a good skin for this? Im very partial to aeon nox and not a big fan of confluence, though i use it on rpi and its fine.
Does the stick do ok w heavier skins? I noticed just in the setup navigation is good but even in fire os detected a slight lag compared to aftv. Still fast and most people new to fire tv probably wouldn't see it. Thanks.
****wound up switching to aeon nox after scanning my library...it runs surprisingly well! Sometimes sticks a bit but overall lag is minimal in the early going...
I hate answering people when thy ask for other people to choose what they should use, but this time I will answer, cause the skin I recommend is that good. Titan Media Browser Skin. It has a few cool features that make me love it. The feature I really like is that you can take any video addon and make a widget for the home screen. Example: if you wanna use Apple Trailers as a wideget, it will let you set it so that all the trailors appear on the home screen of Kodi. If you wanna use you 1Channel favorites as a widget, you can and they will all appear on the home screen. Or if you just want all of your video addons to appear on the home screen, you can do that too.

Not exactly opinion i was fishing for but more of a "how does it handle heavier skins"?
Nonetheless i appreciate the tip. Ive been using aeon a long time and a change is welcomed. Btw--im really impressed by this little device that i kinda bought on a whim. Definitely a great deal for the price!

I only use SPMC, but it handles all skins well. I have yet to use a skin that slowed down the device. There are certain parts of skins that slow down when chaning skin settings, but after the changes are applied it goes back to normal. Just like the Titan skin, when you change the widgets and background properties it will slow down when you try to back out of that section, but its only because it is trying to apply what you have set it to do, and after a minute it goes back to normal. Thats the only section that slows anything down with the titan skin, but it only slows down if you change any setting in that section, only til its done applying the settings.
Just starting out with the Fire Phone, unlocked version being used with T-Mobile.
Found the YouTube instructional video for loading the Google Play Store and got it to work fine after about 27 updates to the phone and store downloaded.
After trying a half dozen different launchers, went back to the stock version as seemed to work the smoothest and couldn't get any others to do what I wanted anyway.
Questions for current users:
1. Phone gets warmer than any phone I've used before. Is this normal?
2. Any way to dock a useful time/date widget and a weather widget on the home screen (or front of the Carousel)?
3. Any way to get rid of or minimize the mostly useless Carousel without using a different launcher? I'd rather see my wallpaper and place a few icons around the screen, then it'd be perfect.
4. If no way to remove the Carousel without using a different launcher, is there a launcher that gives a simple, clean interface and the ability to have your own wallpaper, a date/time and weather widget on home screen, and standard icon and icon folder placement ability? None of the ones I tried gave me that. I find it bizarre that custom wallpaper is not a standard option on every single launcher.
5. Battery life is pretty bad. Walking around for just about two hours yesterday playing Pokemon Go drained my 100% battery entirely. Is that normal?
6. I'm seeing people mention "turning off fancy stuff" and the like in threads here to improve battery life, but cannot find where anyone says what specifically to turn off or how to turn it off...help?
7. Any way to customize the left-hand tilt menu? It is mostly useless links...the "Music" link doesn't even go to Prime Music -- what's up with that? I'd like to customize what gets launched from the links, but it seems impossible.
8. The "swipe up" back button feature is really annoying as it is so picky and just plain doesn't work in some situations and some apps. Any way to improve it?
9. Any way to tell what apps are currently running to close some? My last phone would show the list if you held down the main button, but this phone just brings up a microphone service when I do that.
10. Is Alexa on the Fire Phone a junior version? It can't do anything I ask it and I'm used to Alexa from my Fire TV. I want to do stuff like "Alexa Play Adele" or "Alexa What Time is It?" but it just shows the "I can't do that" text. (On a related point...any way to get the "Okay Google..." talking function?)
11. Is the GPS a bit weak? Maps don't always load, rather annoying.
12. When I'm talking on the phone, I can't figure out how to get the screen to turn on again if I have to enter numbers, change speakerphone, or check something. Others phones just automatically turn on when I take it away from my ear, but the screen just stays off with this one. Is there a button to push to get it turn on again?
My primary uses for the phone are Prime Music, the Camera, and texting, so it is really a great phone for me. With more reliable mapping, better battery life, and a good back button, it'd be an excellent phone despite the other above gripes.
If you can help with any of the above questions, that'd be great. Thanks!
Stock launcher very restrictive you'll need a third party one to have custom options. That's not as easy as it sounds as not all support widgets on fire phone. I use lucid launcher which does. Mine doesn't heat up much, and battery life is the best I've had on a phone. Double click button for running app display.
try install custom rom like MIUI, I am using MIUI in my fire phone and its really fun... apart from few minor bugs like switching camera it's a great rom, boost battery time, heat up problem solved and very fast rom as compare to stock rom.

Unfortunately, if I'm understanding other threads, camera function is iffy for everything except FireOS. Since the most important part of this phone is the camera for me (tied with messaging), it looks like I need to stick to stock on that.
Frustrating though as I really like the look of that MIUI 7 you linked. I wish I had time to give it a shot just to see if the camera is still good enough.
Thanks.

I'm using nova and widgets work fine as long as you move the app to /system, but you'll need root for that.

Root itself doesn't cause issues with the camera, it's roms other than stock.

Hi guys
I put GrapheneOS on this a few days ago. I noticed on using it on the status bar a slight backlight bleed on the top of the screen. Just a white tinge. Have today replaced with Pixel Factory OS (Original) firmware and I no longer seem to get the backlight bleed although that may be because the background is different on Google Stock and not pure black!
I do encounter an issue though which seems to happen with Both GrapheneOS & Google OS and that is the Green Flicker when pressing the power button quickly when the phone is off.
Is this something said to be fixed by google?
If not I am wondering if it may lead to further issues down the line and if I should get it replaced.
If it is quite common for others and google say they will fix it then I may hang onto the device.
What do you reckon?
Cheers folks!

yes the flicker issue is fixed in december update its been noted by google for awhile now
AMOLED displays have no backlight bleeding as there is no backlighting. Something is causing those pixels to have current and emit light.
I would send it back for a refund... once bitten, twice shy.
No worries i'll get onto the co who sold it today and get a replacement sorted out. Thanks guys for the help
I have been told by the website to go into the actual store to arrange a replacement. The only concern I have over this is that this whitish status bar problem only occurs on GrapheneOS. If I go showing them that on GrapheneOS they may not replace it because I have put a custom OS on it. I wondered if there is a way I can somehow make it do it with the Standard Google OS. Or do you think that they would still replace it if I showed them the problem on GrapheneOS? Cheers guys.

Personally, I wouldn't chance it with a custom OS. I would go full stock and even lock the bootloader (which would definitely cause you to factory reset). I'm not a betting kind of person, though, so I try not to take risks.
My first Android phone 11 years ago, I was going to exchange it at the store because the trackball quit working (or it was too sensitive as a button or something), and I was nervous because I had modified my phone - I forgot to restore it to 100% stock before (even the boot screen - and that bootscreen is still on my replacement device I still have). I came up with some excuse before I turned it over to them, and tried to use their computer to help me put the machine back to stock but it was a lot of wasted time - I wasn't successful under pressure, I gave them the phone and they were fine with it, and gave me a new one. And that was a Verizon store, who locks their stuff down so tight. LOL.
You can probably just explain the basics of what happens sometimes, and not even show them. At least, hopefully.
I'll go in there this weekend and give that a go. Fingers crossed they'll issue replacement. Appreciate the lengthy reply there
I've noticed a white tinge, but only on the home screen of the Pixel Launcher with dark backgrounds. Doesn't show up on Nova or any of the other apps. Just assumed it was a purposeful effect.
They're saying they'd send it back for repair. After thinking about it i am tempted to just make do with what I got. If it doesn't get worse over time (spread more) then i'll just keep it
good luck in asking the graphene devs about it. if you do, please post the response. I'd donate $10 to charity just to see the chat in their matrix room//
are you sure you're having issues? GrapheneOS is experimental at the moment. just grab one of those testing apps to see if you have any issues with the screen (on stock. any issues like your describing is super rare on stock 6 pro). if not then it's 100% software. I would want to be sure it was a hardware issue before I get an RMA/repair
so embarrassing {my browser froze or something). but yeah, just make sure to read my post.^^ I'm returning this pixel because it made me comment again
Hey! Thanks for getting back. I went into their support room the other day. Others who have flashed Graphene OS on their devices have reported to not get the white status bar. I only notice it when in a very dark room or with brightness turned on above 50% (Whilst in a darker or dark room) . I do get it with the Stock OS but its only really noticeable with a black wallpaper. With GrapheneOS by default having a black wallpaper, that is what made me notice it. It is the same with stock. So far it has only been present on the home screen. I am going to try a completely different launcher and see if that gets rid of it even using a dark wallpaper. Upon searching on google it seems this issue is quite common but that is with with the pixel 5 (not 6) and others have suggested to use another launcher (Microsoft, Nova and rootless i think was the name?) . I think this is an ok issue to deal with as long as it doesn't interfere with anything or of course get worse over time! What do you reckon? Thanks.
Just an update: I have managed to use Microsoft Launcher (Purely just for testing purposes) using a black wallpaper with it i no longer get the white status bar fade / tinge. It seems the Launcher GrapheneOS & Google Stock use are the issue. This is good news because i THINK (Could be wrong) it confirms it is not a hardware problem.

umm it's hard to say. does it appear in a screenshot as well? grab a screen testing app. it's probably nothing but I don't know what you're seeing exactly so it's hard to comment. sometimes it won't appear in a screenshot, due to the way the fade is created (by an overlay or in the screen profile etc). maybe a photo or something might help/
and you got out of that matrix chat alive? you didn't feel like you were eaten by wolves? awesome. you got lucky.
Good question. Hadn't thought to screenshot it. At first I thought it was hardware so i took a photo of it with my S8+ and uploaded it onto their GrapheneOS chat but unfortunately the picture never did save. Once I get home I will try and egt a screen shot. What sort of screen testing app can you recommend with the problems described above?
hahaha yes i didn't notice anything in the chat but i was only there for about 5 minutes. What are they like then? Do they take all this stuff too seriously? lol
