[Q] Nexus S Will Not Update - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Barely used Nexus S (used by someone else) and I can't get it to update... Please before telling me this questions was covered somewhere else, please understand that I have 2 children, including one little girl, who are presently with a female pedophile (catholic school teacher) and I don't have time for debates.... Here is the error:
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "google/soju/crespo:2.3.6/GRK39F/189904:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "google/soju/crespo:4.0.3/IML74K/239410:user/release-keys"
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (Status 7)
Installation aborted..
What do I do about it?

You are in the wrong forum. This is the Galaxy Nexus forum.
I'd flash the factory image instead.

Sorry, what is the right forum? And, I came here because you are way more advanced than I. I have been a PC tech not a phone tech.. How would I flash the factory image? (and I imagine your correct as it sounds like this would overwrite the entire problem)..

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-s/general/guide-factory-images-jb-ics-gb-t1572307
Factory images are here, as well as instructions. Flash for whichever is your device.
Looks like from your build.prop, you have a soju. You'll want to flash 4.1.2 (JZO54K) for the Nexus S (worldwide version, i9020t and i9023)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-s
Here is the subforum for the Nexus S.
I'm a PC technician too, have been engaged with technology since I was 15 months old, built my first PC with my dad when I as 8! I'm working on my Windows cert right now too!
Android is fun to work on as well, but I'm no developer.

[Q] E: Can't open sdcard/rom (bad)!

Hi!
Every time I try to flash a rom through CWM it gives me this "E:Can't open sdcard/rom.zip (bad)" error. I thought it's because of a corrupt download, but I downloaded it again and again, and it still ain't working. I also tried different roms and zips, but always the same error.
I formatted my SD card. I actually did it three times. Still no luck.
I hope someone can help. Thanks.

i have found that "bad" generaly means a problem with the zip. what have you been trying to flash?
Pvy.
I hope it was the problem. But I have tried downloading the same file a couple of times and tried different zip files, but none of 'em works. Also I can't install zips through Rom Manager.
Ugh, now what it does is when I go to flash a zip file, it just stucks into the "Opening update package"... It does it on every rom I try to install, even with matching kernels...

roms.
Great, now I can't even flash CM9 anymore. I think I've made helluva expensive book weight.
Did you format it with windows or via cwm?

I don't use Windows, but I formatted it with Ubuntu. And yes, I also formatted it with CWM(which wasn't a good idea)
Okay, now when I try to flash CM9 Nightly, I got this:
Code:
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") ==
"| | getprop(ro.product.device") == "LT18i"
a" assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") ==
"| | getprop(ro.product.device") == "LT18i"
a" getprop("ro.product.device") == "LT15i" || getprop("ro.product.device) == "LT15a"
E:error in /sdcard/update-cm-9-20120404-NIGHTLY-anzu-signed.zip
[B](Status 7)[/B]
Installion aborted.
Geez...
Any way to restore phone to complete stock? I could start from a clean table...
Allright, got that one fixed. Just needed to erase "getprop" lines from roms updater-script.
Now my phone isn't a brick anymore Able to boot it to CM9. Still, can't flash any roms...
It's alive!
I don't know what I did exactly to get it work, but I think formatting SD card via CWM had something to do with it...
(and sorry for double posts)
Maybe you have formatted in nfts instead of fat32..

Anyone who knows a solution to this? It just appeared on my CWM screen as well out of nowhere. Didn't do anything in MGLDR menu for weeks but it just happened?

Can't install any custom ROM on SU640

Hey all!
I have Korean LG SU640. When trying to install any rom, e.g. CM9, 9.1, 10, i have the same error:
assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device") =="su640" ll getprop ("ro.build.product") == "su640"
E: Error in/sdcard/cm-9.0.0-su640.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.
As I found, this error appears when you're trying to install rom from another device
Installation of ROMs from P930 goes ok, but wifi doen'ts works and screen oriebtation is wrong.
Tried to flash CWM for SU640 from here, but this didn't help.
Solution I found is to put into SU640 rom META-INF and system\build.prop from P930. Rom installed successfully and everything works.
However, making this manipulation for each update is quite annoying.
Does anybody knows how to make my phone 'think' he is SU640, not P930?

All you need to do is go to CWM, select "Install zip from sdcard", then select "toggle script asserts" (so that the setting is disabled).

Solution found!
Download the latest recovery for LG Optimus LTE from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/.
Flash it with Android Terminal Emulator how it was described here
Reboot into recovery and install any rom for SU640.
The only problem is that Rom Manager still wants to flash recovery for P930

It's really easy. what you need to is delete(
"ro.product.device") =="su640" ll getprop ("ro.build.product") == "su640")of META-INF then pack and sign zip,this will work well.

Some ROMs will give an error: "assert failed getprop(ro.product.device==SU640)" or something like that.
Open that ROM using Winrar, go to "META-INF\com\google\android " and open the file named "updater-script" and remove the first line and save.
On closing the text editor, winrar will ask you if you want to replace the edited file, click "Yes" or "OK" . and flash the ROM again. This time, it will work.

[Q] Percisting assert failed: getprop...(statut 7)

Hi, I have an SGH T999V and I rooted it with this method :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563955
I wanted ClockworkMod recovery and I found it and flash it with Odin v3.07 :
http://true-android.blogspot.ca/2014/01/install-cwm-6045-advance-edition-on-t.html
Then I wanted the lastest stable CyanogenMod for the SGH T999V and I tried to flash : cm-10.2.1-d2tmo.zip and I had this error message :
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2tmo" || getprop("ro.built.product") =="d2tmo"
I tried many methon to fix my problem but nothing work. I tried to flash a newer bootloader but I have the same error message (than above) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290118
I also tried to delete the first line in the ROM but it say this message error :
assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader") == "T999UVDLJA" about 8 times and in diagonal
I'm very desperate and I would like some help.
Thanks
That Rom has been coded for T999 and its bootloader. So the updater script gives errors on both counts, bootloader as well as Product Model.
Best if you can comment out the Assert Lines in the Updater Script. Post the script here or let me know if you need help there.
FWIW, you may also want to post on the CM thread asking them to include your device for future releases.
Yes. I would need help for posting the script !
The Script is located
/meta-inf/com/google/android/
Attach it to a post here.
Here is the contain of the updater-script (from : cm-10.2.1-d2tmo.rar) that I can't be attached because the type of file is invalid...
Either change d2tmo to d2can, or use the d2tmo recovery instead your current one. (This is why I suggest all variants of the T999 use the d2tmo recoveries).
If for some reason that fails, you need to delete ALL of those getprop lines.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I'm thinking about this and I don't understand that it doesn't work for me because in this method (only for SGH T999V), the link to download CM is for T-Mobile GS3...
I already have the d2tmo clockworkmod recovery then I will open the updater-script directly from the .rar (cm-10.2.1-d2tmo.rar) with notepad++ and delete the assert line and then save it. Like in this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwG_F72LgMY
Will it work ?
Can't open it for some reason...but all the getprop lines need to be deleted along with the assert lines.

OK, I just got to my computer and can see the pic you attached now. Yes, the lines in grey need to be deleted. Make sure you do this in Notepad++ with EOL Conversion set to Unix/OSX Format (Under the Edit menu).
Is it right ?

Hello, I recognize a strange thing in my S4 mini. If I turn on my device the screen shows me the main logo and the GT-I9195 sign. So it is an LTE version. Now the problem. I wanted to install an serranoltexx zip and cwm says " This package is for serranoltexx devices, this is a serrano3gxx device. serrano3gxx.zips will installed ironical.
Whats that. That happens during many trys to install a serranoltexx.zip. Every time the same massage. But if I try to install a zip that comes with the aroma installer I can choose the right version with no error massage and a clean and workable installation.

the error comes from the zip you flashing ... open the zip of serranoltexx go to META-INF>com>android>updater script ... open it with notepad++ and replace every i9190 with i9195
Ok, Thank you. I looked in that pathfile and everything is ready for serranoltexxx
for example:
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "serranolte" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "serranolte" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "serranoltebmc" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "serranoltebmc" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "serranoltektt" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "serranoltektt" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "serranoltexx" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "serranoltexx" || abort("This package is for \"serranolte,serranoltebmc,serranoltektt,serranoltexx\" devices; this is a \"" + getprop("ro.product.device") + "\".");
and the last...this is a. "" + getprop("ro.product.device") + "\"."); the updater extract the actually device name...in my case it reads out serrano3gxx.
very strage
PS.: I have to say that my phone works not perfect. It does not charge. only if I charge the battery in an separate static charger it does. Than I can switch the phone on and than it works. But with this strange behavior during the cwm install process. The phone does not charge(with this strange grey battery symbol) since it was totally flat or dead(i do not know how I could say in english). I do not know if those two strange behaviors are related to each other. No charge animation except if I connect the phone with the laptop, nevertheless it does not charge according the battery menu.
Thanks so far
