Why would it get closed? I think its a legit question for a new g2 owner. I had the same question when i got mine.
Anyway, i would have to tell u, being the sprint variant, to check out derp rom. If yur kinda newbie like i was, then its not too hard to install and yur data and tethering works real good. That said, cloudyflex and optimusRS roms are super sweet. Only thing with those roms u cant manually update yur network settings like prl and set preferred network as easy. U have to install a couple apps like apn backup to get data working right. I would start with derp or even the optimus de, then maybe check out the others if u get that hair up yur arse. Just my opinion. Good luck.
Welcome to the g2 fam!
Edit: sorry went back and read 1st post. I guess u never said u were a new owner. I guess i was just assuming.

For what it's worth, I've thoroughly enjoyed the stock kit kat rom, rooted with the WiFi tether mod. I've always ran custom roms but I haven't had a need for one on this phone. Battery life is great. What am I missing by not using a custom rom?

U know ive been thinking about do u ng that. I think u might have just helped me make up my mind. Hows the tether mod working for u? Do u have to reboot everytime u turn it on? And or, do u have to update prl everytime u use it? Thats been whats been kinda holding me back. Ive seen alot of people over in that thread have alot of issues with it. U are right tho kitkat is pretty awesome.

I believe they are all great ROMs but there are some YOUR phone is gonna like more than others...that's the best answer I could give you. Luck homie.
That to me is an unaswerable question. Its like asking what undys should I wear today to your buddies. Not really a question anyone but yourself could answer lol.
Ok im teasing don't hate me lol. I guess what I mean to say is what ever rom feels that meets your needs.
I have flashed over 5 roms in the last 3 weeks and I finally found one that fits me. DS Rev.7.
I suggest to flash a few and see which one is your favorite. Or just keep flashing til you burn something out lol.
Hope this helps

I so agree with you bro.... the devs are just doing all of this for free. Which ever any of us use is just icing on their cake. To them it just means that their knowledge has paid off.
Too many choices out there to make one single decision. Carry 1-2-3-8 roms in ur card. Choose a diff one everyday of the week. And one day it will make its mark that the one your using will meet all your needs. Until then........ PLEASE!!!!! Read instructions and follow devs install guides. Their there for a reason. Don't be one of the many that post treads about how they didn't research and ended up with a paperweight.
Thats my .02¢
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
I don't mean to sound politically incorrect here. But I don't think devs do this for us at all. If I had the talents to dev my main reason for developing would be my own personal gains in being able to improve the experience with that shiny new device I've been wanting. Then after I would upload my work for anyone else if they wish. Hopefully cash in some sweet donations if my work is THAT good. But I will never ever believe that devs do it "for us". All devs are hackers. And hackers all hack for the same reasons. Personal gain and attention. Just my 2 cents.

Kernel

Im rooted on stock, I bought ROM Toolbox Pro but cant use any of the features because im on kernel 3.0.8-925100. The main features I'm trying to use are change wifi logo, battery icon and a few other tweaks ROM Toolbox offers. I want to stay stock as possible because I really like the stock rom so I guess my real question is can I flash a new kernel and stay stock and if so whats a good one that will let me use all ROM Toolbox features?

Few questions about wife's sph-710

I have a few quick questions on this device, I personally deal strictly with htc devices but my wife loves this phone.
Ok a little background.
The phone has been flashed to boost. And is on stock Sprint gb27 jb, unrooted.
Where is a good thread to get this rooted? and after the recovery gets installed being it's flashed to boost anything I should not flash? Thanks guys

If you flash from Odin the rooted same build you won't need to factory reset.

Here's qbking's video on how to root on jb:

Just make sure you read, read, read. And your prl, being on Boost, will not change. And as long as you have a jb modem(gb27, gb28, or gc01), you'll have data. But if you flash a Sprint rom you'll have to research how to change mmsc in order to send mms. To avoid that, if your wife wants stock, flash a GC01(Boost) rom after you root. Here's mine, deodexed, debloated, and since it's stock, you can build it up to your wife's liking. Good luck, happy flashing:thumbup:

By the way, if you flashed the phone to Boost you're better off just keeping a stock Boost ROM handy.
That way you're not having to mod the MMS settings to get it to work right.
From there you can pick up a custom kernel/recovery and flash away.
(I personally recommend mine but there are others to choose from...)
Welcome and enjoy!

[Q] your opinion counts

umm hi
i wanna buy this tablet for my girlfriend
but before handing it over i want to give it a touch
which kernel,rom,apps do you suggest?
should i root it?should i change rom or something?
and i also want to buy an stylus,is it ok?any suggestion there?
thank you for your time my good friends
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
and i am obviously not familiar with any kind of lg product or kernel or anything
i have a rooted note on a costume rom ( if you wanna know about my experience)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Its pretty easy to root the thing. Here is what i would do:
Root
Install twrp 2.7 recovery
make a backup so you have it exactly like it came out of the box other than root.
Then you have about 3 choices for roms
Mahdi-Rom 2.5 4.4
LRS G Pad][v1.2.0 4.2.2 +BOB kernel
CYANOGENMOD 11 LINARO/SABERMOD 4.4
Ive used all 3 and settled on LINARO/SABERMOD. It seemed the easiest to setup, didnt have a huge amount of stuff installed (i cant use/stand pie controls) and it was easy to setup for tap on/off.
what is the point in changing the rom?i mean the installed one has a problem?
other than that what apps do you suggest,or maybe a launcher!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Honestly unless she is tech savy keep it stock I have the lg g2 and gpad both are stock but for one reason only everything works and I get great battery life out of them I do use go next launcher 3d on the phone for a launcher but stock launcher on tablet because I can't find one that I like better

No need for a custom rom, the stock one is fine. I would root it and maybe install a custom recovery, but that's completely optional, plus adding a custom recovery has the disadvantage that it complicates things when you want to do an OTA update.
Some people prefer an alternate launcher, e.g. Nova.
But really, you don't need to do anything but add some apps.

Hello..
First let me say, any standard stylus will do just fine.. I would pick one that is your Girlfriends Favorite Color.. :good:
Personally.. If I were in your position knowing what I know about "Stock ROM's" vs "What's Available" to give her tablet *A Touch*..
The only Custom ROM I would install for her is the Mahdi-ROM.. It's 100% Stable ( The Most Important Thing ) and it's very Fluid and Fast.
Other than that, I would leave it completely stock since the Official 4.4.2 KitKat Update will most likely arrive in the next 60 days.
