Galaxy tab 3 8.0 battery life. - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a Galaxy tab 3 8.0 and i am wondering what sort of battery life i should be seeing. I just played 20 mins of gta 3 with wifi off and brightness about 65 to 75 percent. It used ten percent of the battery. Does that seem about right? Also what should i expect while surfing the net because that seems to drain it very quick. Thanks a lot, first time android user and im getting paranoid that i have ended up with a dodgy battery lol

read this thread. seems like you are having the same issue as everybody else. I just got my back from repair. It's working good now.

Thanks for the reply, but that thread is about charging issues? I dont have any issues with charging, just wondering what battery usage i should be seeing.

Its related issue. I also had crazy drainage. Like 50% to 35% in 3-4 minutes. Turns out the USB main board was not charging correctly. It would show 100% but in reality the battery was only like 50%. I noticed it when I did a reset on it. Before tablet reset battery was 80%. After reset it was 35%.
But also, i think GTA should be to blame here. Some games have crazy battery usage.

I have mine tablet in standby mode with wifi on all the time. With about 1 hour or reading and a little of surfing each night, I can get by with charging about every 4 days.

[UPDATE,FIXED] Battery lowered 10% in 2hrs while on Airplane Mode/ Wifi Off.

I was in a class that is from 7AM-11AM. The classroom has no signal whatsoever so at 7AM I put airplane mode on, didn't turn on Wifi, closed all open tasks and just for the heck of it turned off background data.
When I put all this into effect, I was at 91%. At 9AM I see that my battery went down to 81%. How is this possible? I was in airplane mode so nothing was synching or downloading, no programs were running in the background or anything at all. On my previous phone (Nexus One) under the same situation the battery would have been at 90%.
Phone Idle- 34%
Cell Standby- 30% (Time without signal 85%)
Am I missing something here? Can someone please elaborate why this went down so much for basically doing nothing.
Did you drain your battery completely the first 5 to 10 times charges, when you first got your evo? Many people claim that's how to he the maxium battery performance from your battery on any phone
Normal. I lose about 10% every 2 hours.

WOW... sounds like its your CPU thats still killing the battery??? You don't have it rooted or running any cutoms ROMs on it?
We SERIOUSLY need to get a UV kernel on here and underclock this thing when its asleep... So many battery drain issues.
Your issue is REALLY strange though.. I was in LA yesterday and mine didn't drop that fast for like 2 and a half hours... Very interesting......

I know right! I have yet to root it. Maybe one of the many custom roms will help huh? and yeah, we do need some kernels! I miss Kmobs kernel I used to use for my N1

This is bogus. Don't bother doing this. That was something that was needed back in 1999 back in the days of NiCad and NiMH batteries... It doesn't help LiIon one bit.

20 hours of battery life is pretty good. I think the record is like 62 with everything completely hacked down. I get about 4-6 in full on usage.

I understand that 20 hours of battery life is good but If I was using the device in those 2 hours I wouldn't be worried. But I wasn't, it was completely IDLE with all the radios turned off and programs killed (advanced task manager).

that is NOT normal lol when my phone is on standby i loose about a percent per hour overnight....
Deactivate any syncs you don't use. Make sure your phone is set to CDMA. See what processes your phone is running that are killing the battery and disable them.
I get about 27 hours on my battery.
I fixed the problem. I rooted 2 days ago (evening) after getting such bad battery life and I flashed Damage Control 3.0.
Today after 2 hours and 30 minutes of being under the same exact conditions as my original post (30 minutes more this time) with Airplane Mode, Wifi Off, Tasks Killed, etc I only lost 1%.
I went from 93% to 92% in 2 hrs/30 minutes which is a hell of a improvement in comparison to losing 10% in less time (2hrs) with the same exact circumstances.
I am extremely happy now. Oh and by the way, yesterday I got 14 hours of usage with this ROM which for me was unheard of before (4-5 hours)

Horrible Horrible Battery Life

Hi guys im wondering who else have a really really battery life, it drops so quick :S
i have brightness low,and seems its draining fast. i tried stock for a little and seems it drops not so fast but still fast, i compare with my old evo and wow was a beast it can last tooo long before drop 1% and htc one X its giving me so much issues i tried insert one coin, and im now on leedroid (seems better) i have to get juice defender ( i never have to use) using hard my old phone (EVO 3D) drops like 50% in 4 hours of Hard use, 2.5 hours bluetooth headsetplaying music, some browsing, whatsapp, twitter and facebook. sometimnes drop 60% its not so bad, perhaps yesterday in almost the same time and doing a lot less drop from 70% to 0% idk what happening or if this is normal because screen? anyone has this issue?
or maybe we can do a "test" maybe playing a video for 30 min or something wifi on, just to test.
Maybe could be my radio? im using HK htc one X in mexico, the 3G works great perhaps could drain more battery?
Any help i will apreciate thanks a lot, i love the phone but this sucks
Regards
How long have you using HOX. I am getting 1 day of battery life after heavy use.
Have you tried battery test, or safe mode?

well i have been using for 1 day i hope last well the next days LOL my warranty its void due unlocked bootloader xD damn i hope works well i will try charge when the phone its off, i should try make a "battery tester" i mean maybe some benchmarks? like doing some stuff and see how much battery drops, decoding and so on maybe for one hour and compare between phones to see if you have issues or something, no one has done something like that?
Thanks a lot i really like the phone i hope its just something to get fixed soon

screen on time?
Drain the battery completely and then charge for at least 8 or more hours, use the phone as normal and let it drain completely again and then charge for a minimum of 3 hours, after a couple of days it should last longer and if you can or need to upgrade to the latest OTA then do so.

well that is not really helping him is it. no point you telling him you getting that kinda of use of out the battery..it is like rubbing it in his face
but anyway 3g does drain battery specially if the signal is low and it is trying to find the best possible signal for you. only use it when you need it. same goes for wifi. for wifi i would have it to sleep when screen is off.
have a look in the battery stats thread and few people give tips in there on how to extend the battery life mate.

thanks, yeah i noticed some people have great battery life and i said NOOO WHY ME!!!! heh i hope its because battery its "new" but to be new sucks hard LOL, i have good signal, perhaps something weird i see its change from 3G to edge (i never had gsm phone on this carrier where im, i had a CDMA phone so idk if its normal, or signal sucks) so i figure out im having drop call just in 4:25
maybe coincidence idk maybe has something to do, any Radio to flash? or firmware? (safe and tested one please xD)

if i was you i would not let it drain completely..let it die down to say 5% i would then fully charge it like overnight. then go here install that apk and once you have fully charged let the battery drain again. once it drains to say 15% check what wakelocks you have. that will help you see where the issue lies and the battery gets drained..better explanation on the thread i gave you the link of mate

if your carrier still shows that you have updates then i would say do that as well mate. radio as far as i know we can not flash just as yet as we need s-off to do that so your best bet is the OTA if you are not on the latest firmware
Wait & see what the battery lasts like after a couple of days of charge & discharge, mine was poor on the first day.
I always try to charge mine up over night & my battery lasts on average 40 - 48 hours now.
The other day i had wi fi on & gps on read some of a book, 3 or 4 calls 5 messages & used a gps app for a while had just over 2 hours of screen on time & after 14 hours still had 60% battery left.
There is no reason why your phone wont get that after a couple of days, hope it is the case for you
Estoy orgulloso que tenemos mexicanos que tienen un One X
Hopefully as updates come, battery life will improve
I´ve been using the HOX for 5 days and it does get better after you run some cycles, but I still find it´s not as good as the battery life on the GS2 I used to have (I was running the Illusion rom).
With the GS2 I would leave the brightness at full blast, I would watch about 1 hour of video, I would use the calendar a lot, I would make a couple of calls and by 19h when I got home my battery would be around 80%. I do the exact same things on the HOX and I get a little less than 70% at the end of the day.

[Q] Question about battery

Is it normal that my battery goes down a percent every 3-4 minutes, just by doing simple things like web browsing?
No. Something is wrong on your end. Check for any apps running the background that shouldn't be running at all.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Open the battery utility to see what is consuming the highest percentage of power.
The display is one of the biggest power consumers. What level is your brightness at? The new N7 can achieve almost 600 nits. That is ridiculously high. The ipad 3/4 and Mini max out around 400 nits. I've found 200 to be a good compromise between battery life and ease on the eyes.
I have. I even factory restored. The standby time is great but once I start using it the battery just drains like that
I would let the device die completely and charge it up to 100% and use it intensely for a bit and track it. My experience with Android is to let the first few cycles of battery settle in the kernel and all that. Sometimes Unix takes a few days to get acquainted with it's space in my experience.

I have about 5 hours on actual screen on time right now and I'm at 38% and 13h since I pulled it off the charger. Mine tends to drop a lot when using Facebook and playing games, cause they're memory hogs. I can listen to music and go on reddit for probably an entire day and it'll get 10 hours.

I got battery issues as well only 5 hours of on screen time........ You can get "Better battery stats" free from Xda, but I can tell you I've checked and nothing is running in the background, deep sleep is good but it dies after about 5 hours of using it. It's looking like some units are shipping with a defective battery. I don't see a lot of people reporting this though.

Most of the battery issues I've seen have all had the 5 hour screen on time problem, I don't know I just find that really weird but oh well
I'm also getting average of 5hrs screen on time. Nothing is draining the battery as far as I can tell. Today for instance I took it off the charger and went out. 7hrs later it had 96% with 6 minutes on screen time. It's at 13hrs on with 5 hrs on screen time mostly chrome, Twitter, instagram, Google+, quick games of words with friends and draw something 2 five minutes each game max if that. I would kill for anything close to 7hrs let alone 9hrs. Also the touch sensitivity goes bonkers often with my Nexus registering touches pretty far from where my finger is. I think I might just try and exchange it. Brightness at 20% maybe.

I have a battery drain issue with my new nexus 7. it cost 25%-30% battery overnight while i was sleeping. so i decided to factory reset it, and not installing any apps to test its standby time. it still cost ~20% battery overnight. Is it a defective product or it's a software issue? Maybe i should return it for a new one

Battery Test
I pulled my new N7 off the charger thsi morning and decided to test the battery because it seemed to be draining too quickly for my taste. I streamed two movies, Star Trek (2009) from Google Play and The Apostle from Showtime Anytime. that is only 4 hours and 20 minutes of movies. My tablet died before the Apostle finished. Had about 20 minutes left on it.
I am not satisfied with this paltry battery life. Google website said it would run 9 hours of movies non stop. 4 hours isn't even close. There are several "comparisons" out there but they only compare what the company said. I am not sure the battery is all it is cracked up to be. I am going to do some further testing but right now it looks like I will forego the New Nexus 7 and pick up a Kindle Fire HD. That battery life does last for hours and for what I need it will suit me fine.
I welcome your comments.

Yeah the battery is terrible for some. There's a chance our nexus 7's are defective but maybe a software update will fix it? Who knows
I have same problems. Only about 5 hours screen on time, and it drains quick if I am streaming especially with Netflix.

i noticed this on my tab 8.4LTE too, the battery simply drains away, almost close to rendering the tablet useless as I use this as my primary phone. tried playing online games and 30 mins later, it ate 40% of the battery (no unusual warm ups) i had this tab for almost a week now and it's still the same. i'm getting worried that i have battery issues

same as me. I also use the LTE ver. It drains really quick which makes me feel like buying a cheap tablet. It only can stand for 2hours plus for heavy user. The screen is really beautiful but have to lower the brightness to save battery. such a waste.

I have a friend here with a tab similar to ours but his battery life is superb. 5% drain /30mins on wifi. Mine dropped 3% asI type this lol. Could it be because we rooted our device?

I dont think its because of root, cause I didn't root my tab yet. does ur friend have lte version also? I also trying to use my tab only with wifi on and sim on (data off) still the same result.

I was getting worried as well. Every time I've used it for anything other than movies my battery percentage has dropped like an aerodynamic rock. Browsing, games, magazines, etc. Movies (assuming because of the typically large amount of black pixels) look fantastic and the battery does quite with them, but for everyday consumption it left me concerned.
An hour ago I asked Amazon for an exchange which they did no questions asked. Perhaps round 2 will fare better. If not, I'll shed a tear as I give up this amazing display for another device altogether.

Yes. Lte version as well. I noticed that when he do wifi file transfers and other stuffs. Batt will drain as well.
I want a heads on comparison with his tab but it's hard since we use the tab differently. This is my primary phone while his is for browsing only. Tomorrow. I'll try to transfer s huge file via wifi and see if we'll have the similar percentage of battery drain. I already did the calibration as advised from another thread and it seems to work. A few more charge cycle might do the trick.

Maybe I have a battery problem too.

Same for me.... It takes forever to fully charge it (10,5 in)
I use a 10.5 LTE and it takes about 5 hours to fully charge. I recommend to switch it off while charging because when it's on you loose about 500mAh (also if the screen is off) and with a 2Ah charger if the battery sees (optimistically) 1.5Ah it takes 5h 20' plus the time required by the slow charge when it reaches 85-90%, so more than 6h.
Anyway I charge it every time I can when it goes under 50%, it's a big battery and needs a special care. Nothing to say about batterylife, excellent.
Most tablets/phones fast charge to 80% and then slow down for the last 20% , so if you don't need a full charge just grab it after it goes past 80% , your battery will live longer as well, as the closer you charge to 100% the more damage is done to your battery, it`s very small but it adds up.
Have a read of the link below, if you want to make the battery in your tablet live longer, if you have the money to easily replace it then don't worry, charge away

Battery Reducing Quickly?

Hello everyone, new to the forum since I just picked up my note 10+ and thiught this forum seemed more knowledgeable than others for battery issues or issues in general. I dont really know if it's an issue but I'm curious of how others people batteries are acting for their note 10+'s. Mine died a few hours ago and once it hit 100% I removed the charger and didn't use it for just over an hour and I noticed my battery went down to 2%. I have my always on screen on of course, most of the apps were dead and I did optimize the battery in the settings while my phone was charging then stopped using it until it charged fully. So I had no apps open and I had a version of battery saving on. I did medium but left the higher res screen on including the cpu at 100%. Would this cause my battery to go down 2% in an hour without any use?
For a side question, is there a better way to get the most out of your battery? I always thought it was let it die everyone inna while but I read recently charging it to 80 then letting it down to 60 and back up to 80 and repeat is the best? If that's true, how do you keep that up and how long will you need to keep that before normal chargers?
Thanks. Hope someone can help
If it went down 2% in an hour, that's 50 hours of standby plus always on display. That's crazy good.

Best way to go is using normal charge an never let the battery drop below 20% forget about trying to maintain certain range (60-80), it will just drive you crazy

If I put my iPad mini to sleep at 100%, I wake up the next morning with 100%. Maybe 99. But usually 100.
That's not the norm, and it's not perfect apples to apples, but it is possible.
Also, 2 days of standby with zero use is not unusual, but definitely not "crazy good".

Wow that is unusual. Do a search for "sleeping apps" in setting and add all the apps you don't need running in the back ground. Also in device care > battery you can see what app is using your battery.

So besides that little fight you had with the other forum member (lol) I appreciate your comment. But there seems to be back and forth, one other person says its good, another says its not. (the one I quoted below). Just seems weird to me that with no open or running apps and just the always on display running that it went down in an hour in 2%. Searching around, people saying losing 1% In an hour with the same set up, no running apps with AOD is bad. I kind of agree since its not truly in use. But unfortunately I cannot find any battery standby tests from Samsung or anyone else to confirm it.

I agree with you more honestly that it shouldn't be going down that fast in an hour with just the AOD running. I didn't have any apps running once it 100%, I was on it while charing it to around 50% but then once I knew I was putting it down for a while I ran the optimization and had the phone kill all the apps. When I saw it go down the 2% I did check out the apps using the battery and the AOD was the only thing listed. Maybe I didn't charge to a full 100%? even though it said 100%... Ill check it out tomorrow once I charge it fully again, today I was charging it up and down most of the day sadly. I try and keep most apps from not running in the background, some I do need though like for my IoT devices needing to know my location, I have yet to change that to just using LTE as my location GPS, but that was not on last night all. Ill try out the sleeping apps though, I didn't know there was a setting for that. Thanks again
AOD typically consumes 1%~2% in my past note devices(7,8,9)

Battery optimization takes a little bit so if you just started using the phone give it a few days.
Also, package disabler or ADB can be used to turn off any major things that you are not using (i.e. Bixby or DeX).
Regarding Cell life: Yes between about 30% and 80% are the optimal percents. That doesn't mean try and always keep it there, that would just be silly and unrealistic.
However, it is important to be conscious of this. For example, don't leave your phone on the charger for days on end sitting at 100%. Don't leave your phone in a drawer or a backpack with 0% in the cells.
Cells are technically damaged (or worn would be a better word) every cycle. The most damage comes from when the voltage drops to its lowest point and its highest point. (i.e. 0% and 100%)
For example, if someone were to charge a LiPo or Li-Ion battery only between 30% - 80% for an entire year and another person with the same phone always went down to 1% and always to 100%, the latter phone would have more cell wear thus it would not hold as much power.
Once you learn of this and become conscious of this then you tend to adjust your habits. All other myths and theories about battery calibration have really not been a thing in many many generations of Android. While you can screw up battery calibration through a service menu, rarely (if at all) a battery loses calibration. Most people start seeing battery wear and think its a calibration issue and then seek ways to fix this. At that point, it cannot be achieved because there is a physical change to their battery which can only be refreshed by getting a new battery.
Reporting my battery life. I guess this is truly an all day device.
Give it a couple days to settle. The first three days, mine got pretty bad battery life. Then yesterday I got almost 10 hours of screen time after using it pretty heavy all day. Mixture of Facebook (battery hog), Internet, texting, emailing, and using the camera (also a battery hog). What finally killed the battery was me downloading, installing, and uninstalling multiple versions of GCam trying to find one that worked well enough to use. I finally found one before my phone hit 0%.

In an hour? Last night I even scheduled it off and had no running apps and medium power saving mode fully on and lost 5% battery in roughly 7 hours with no use.

This is useful, thank you. Never knew not discharging device is the way to go but we all learn new things every day. I'm at 65% right now, when waking up at 6am with 95%. Wireless android auto for about an hour, plus okay-ish use. Ill make sure to charge it up to around 80% tonight.

Over 8 hours screen time is great, best I've gotten so far is 7.5 hours
I just wanted to throw my two cents in here... My battery life is pretty terrible in comparison to my S10+. Trying to find a rogue app of some sort but I just hit 1% with 12 hours off the charger. Keep in mind that is not 12 hours of use. In fact I used it for about an hour of total screen time today.

Yeah I came from an S10+ and noticed my battery on the N10+ was pretty bad in comparison.
I did restore everything from my S10+ though, not a clean install of everything.
Wonder if that may be causing issues.
Is everyone having problems on Verizon?
Quote " Last night I even scheduled it off and had no running apps and medium power saving mode fully on and lost 5% battery in roughly 7 hours with no use."
Unless you put it in airplane mode, your phone will keep connected to cell tower (or wifi if you have wifi calling) otherwise you won't receive calls and messages, so there is no such thing as phone with no use, and if you have weak signal or some interference your battery usage can increase drastically even in standby because the cell radio will try to connect at full transmit power. And then you have all those programs running in the background, God knows what they're doing. As others suggested disable programs you don't use, also you can force close programs that you don't use often. When I had my older Note rooted, I optimized it so well it would run 2% down per 8 hrs overnight, but it took some effort. Biggest problem is to know what to disable without loosing functionality for stuff you need. Give it some time for people to learn more about new phone. BTW my 3 day old phone has 435 apps and services installed and most of them I have no idea what they do.
