So with our new M8's performing so well out of the box who here still feels the need to root and/or install custom software? (might be a very silly question asking this here at XDA but I was curious who was staying fully stock?)
I am currently running stock - first time in 6 android phones (HD2 - N1 - S2 - S3 - N4 - M8) that I haven't felt the need to root and flash straight away..
Yeah I feel the same way about it too, I'm still undecided. Flashing on the one x was such a ballache. Having to need a pc to flash
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Sense is so nice I don't think I'll feel the need to mod any time soon.
Im running stock ....but I have the google camera and google launcher and google keyboard and clock ...oh and google gallery ...basically that's all I like apart from lock screen and the default dark theme in settings, so im happy not to root ....still cant get over the fact that need for speed still stutters in places lol ...that's crazy.
Fully stock only because I'm waiting for a warranty replacement lol. As soon as I get my new one I'll try out gpe ROM but something tells me I'll probably be coming back to custom sense. Really like blinkfeed and from what I've heard the camera is better on sense. I'll be back on sense in the fall for sure since I need WiFi calling at school. med school shields the crap out of the buildings

For the first time I think I'll stick with stock as for now... I rooted everything I had, s3, note 2 and lg g2 but now I r don't really think it's necessary. The system is so fluid even with battery saver mode that... I don't see the reason to do that
Wysłane z mojego HTC One_M8 przy użyciu Tapatalka
The only thing that might make me root is to get rid of ads in games, etc.
Apart from that, it's really impressive.

Rooted right away to get rid of navbar and use pie. Using the entire screen ftw.
Yes until new version of android releases then everyone will start jumping around to flash the GPE ROM.

I am still on stock Sense 6, but I rooted just so I could hide the nav bar and take full advantage of the 5" display.
I root and install custom roms for extra mods. Xposed takes care of most of that

Try adding these entries in apn settings and wifi ....need adblock as well. set proxy to manual in modify on wifi ....add localhost to proxy and port 2020 ...do the same in apn settings and reboot. Works for me ...only the occasional add comes through
Stock rooted for me. I like blinkfeed and motion launch (It works 60% of the time but I just keep tapping the screen till it wakes) on sense 6. Root for custom kernel (elementalx) and navbar removal to get that extra pixel space when browsing on the web. The only thing that is keeping me from liking this phone is that the battery is non-serviceable.
Agreed

I wood really like a rom which is just plain android (no htc sense ui). As I would like to use launcher pro beta as my home. Or even better a method of removing sense ui from stock rom.
Thanks

I would suggest you try one of the Froyo roms if you are wanting a rom without sense ui.

why would you want a nexus one :s its an ugly desire with less ram
In retrospect, i would probably have chosen the nexus too, just for the quicker release of OTA updates from Google. But with this in mind, and when the Desire officially receives the Froyo update, wouldn't updates be released quicker through HTC if they get rid of sense ui?...

This looks interesting, though what exactly is different between this future ROM, and the rom for the Desire Z? It just seems like another Sense ROM to me.
Please don't take that the wrong way. It's great that you're porting different ROMs over to the G2! I'm just curious since I don't understand what sets it apart from a regular Sense ROM like Virtuous.

new widgets like a power control widget
email widget has been revamped
also there is a exchange widget? dunno how it differs from email
the new app drawer icon
um settings is a bit different
agenda widget
htc likes widget
there like 2 new people widgets
and twitter widget looks kind off dirent i guess.
edit: iv been told most of this is not new, bunch of this widgets are alredy in desire z builds, im guessing rmk40 ripps them out, or i never looked for them.
i will post more screen shots if i can.

Cimer said:
Well I don't like the UI changes that are going on, and I do not see some of my wish list features that kind of make sense.
Some UI changes that I do not like is the "3G+" Even though that used to be accurate I like my H and if Virtuous was going to decide to change the H icon the only icon I would not mind is a "4G" icon because that term is accurate now.
I don't like what they did with the personalized button, I liked the old way better it looked nicer and I find it to be useful because I like changing certain UI things up which Sense allows me to do.
Also Virtuous buddy does not seem to work as well as I would hope and I can not access the main settings part, which leaves me kind of frustrated because I would like to know if I could change what I did not like above.
What I would like to be changed is when you slide down the notifications bar I would like a power control rather than recent apps, I have a home screen for that and the app drawer can be just as quick.
I don't know if this last part is possible or not, but I would like more themes, or just a flat bar like slate with the HTC skin to it.
Click to collapse
There is a mod to make it a power contol, in the thread.
He said virtuous buddy is still beta.
If you don't like the personalize button.. flash the stock launcher.. yet again there is a mod for that in the thread.
The 3g+ icon is stock with the ROM. That's how HTC put it.
Make more themes since your so needy.
Conclusion: Read in the thread. Almost ALL that stuff you was complaining about besides the 3g+ icon is fixable, if you Read and stop complaining. Better yet don't flash the ROM. And I highly doubt RMK or HTC care about your wish list.

G-Lite is a departure from other Virtuous ROMs in that it is effectively AOSP and designed to be lightweight, yet functional. If you find yourself discarding most of the features of Sense in favor of specific apps of your preference, this ROM is for you. Don't expect anything too fancy.
Features
Supported on the G2 and DesireZ only.
Minimalistic, lightweight ROM with +200MB of memory free at startup.
Extremely battery efficient (best of any G2/DZ ROM I have used to date).
Based on Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.13.531.8, which is effectively AOSP.
All device hardware fully functional, including wifi, bluetooth, camera, camcorder, etc.
Kernel 2.6.35.10 Vision Gingerbread kernel. Do NOT use AOSP kernels with this ROM (i.e. Pershoot, Cyanogen).
Market-sourced applications (Gmail, Maps, Voice, etc) automatically installed on first boot into /data/app for easy removal.
Basic visual enhancements to notification bar, icons and pulldown menus to eliminate green indicators in favor of white.
Replaced stock Gingerbread launcher with LauncherPro.
Wifi calling and Swype conditionally installed for T-Mobile USA users. If your carrier licenses Swype for your DZ, let me know and I will adjust the installer.
Bloatware and unnecessary applications removed.
Additional notifications and ringtones added from Sense.
Massive APNS list.
Rooted, deodexed and zipaligned (should be assumed with all ROMs but people ask so I mention it anyway).

This is interesting. I am still stock but this is the smoothest Sense out of the box for me.
Are you rooted? If yes, did you port stuff from your phone? This would create problems especially switching from another version of Android.
If you aren't, it could be stuff that you have installed also.
Just a guess.
Could you specify where you get lags? I didn't really notice any lags. There are slight delays sometime (for example when you open the clock (defaults to world time, which sucks)) but that's to be expected. Other than that it seems very smooth to me.
You can download Apex or Nova Launcher from Play store and you don't have to have root. I prefer Apex because it just fels more smooth and has more options. And who thinks that Sense is not lagging should give Apex a try and than compare yourself
By the way Sense gets disabled by itself if you set Apex as default launcher. That's a 100 MB pure win on RAM.
Just by scrolling between homescreens, i only have clock/weather widget and contacts widget and calendar widget + some icons on my homescreens. Sometimes it runs totally smooth, and sometimes it lags when scrolling to the next screen.

I have gone from 2.1 to 4.0, in between using all kinds of launcher.
It's true in the earlier version the difference can be quite obvious. But I don't think so for 4.0. Sense may be slower, may be not. It is no longer obvious.
But I don't use fancy background, just a static picture. And I always turn off animation.
The OP is talking about smoothness and not response which I agree that sometimes sense causes some delay. But that split ms is harmless to me. I am not going anywhere in that time span anyway. But for the OP to notice such a difference is abnormal.
Apex launcher made me love and buy the device again lol
Sense fan since the early days, but not 4.0 i don't like the taste or will tolerate the lagginess on a quad core hot chip

With all due respect how can you honestly be okay with a half-baked phone? I am a galaxy SII owner and I've had my HTC one X for one day. I love the phone but sense still appears to be more of a memory hog and hindrance than anything else.
I know lots of people who are happy with SGSII's because the software largely functions as its supposed too (I still put vanilla ROM on it because touchwhizz is ugly) but I am already experiencing my htc rebooting the launcher everytime I press home after opening a few apps.. I also noticed that something like 650mb of the 1gb ram is being used when I turn the phone on... Sense is seriously a memory hog. Multitasking doesn't appear to be functioning how I'm used to on the S2. HTC should make sure they iron out kinks like this before they rush to market, after-all their USP is the software...
Even before I received my HTC one X i was reading weekly about bugs and problems people were having with it, which unnerved me a bit.
Thing is, I actually like some elements of sense and it's a vast improvement from my desire but the fact is I can see sense really dragging the performance down over the life of the handset. Even if I use Apex launcher, sense's launcher still drains memory.. I'm removing sense asap

I'd vote for the Google apps on /system/app to be moved to /data/app as once they update they'll go there and just use space in /system. Also, I'd vote to remove the bulky Laputa and car padding but each to his own

Hey, v3 does install via recovery with fastsy hboot but gets stuch on one x animation screen, after lots of battery pulls didnt help, i know you tested it but im not sure how far ya went with install....
In my opinion its better now to wait for an official update from shaky himself. And stop downloading and installing the previous releases. I know that he knows what he is doing !

Suggestion on building the rom
I don't think it a good idea to support all kinds of HBoots at such an early stage of building the ROM--they only increase the trouble in testing for now.
My personal suggestion is to set down to FATSYS, or plus Stock at most.
When the ROM gets stable, more HBs could then be added for wider support...
Perhaps i'm just too urge to see your fantastic works...

Is their no more pinch-to-zoom effect on homescreens?
Sense 4.0 have remove the permanently rotation (so we can from middle screen only 2 turns left/right)
But have Sense 4.0 miss the home screen overview after "pinch-to-zoom" too?
Thanks for your rom, awesome work ! Works fine on my father's desire
Maybe the flac support will be Nice, I've many lossless files.

I personaly agree with you. I think it's better to get a working ROM from Shaky on one or maybe two HBs at the most, because it's a lot easier to change your HBoot than developing an entire ROM for each individual HB at the same time.

This is because we are using Sense 4 Lite, which is the version on the One V. Sense 4 Lite only has 5 homescreens, and does not have leap view. Sense 4.0 does have leap view and have up to 7 homescreens which you can remove and add. Also, HTC removed the rotation as its a gimmick to them in Sense 4

OK HTC remove that options to get a better performance, i find it is ok when its help to increase the performance.
Do Sense 4.0 and/or Sense 4.0Lite have HomeScreen Roatation (Landscape Mode)?

It's present in the code. But its disable by HTC. I believe the only way to access it is to plug it into a HDMI tv and use HTC MediaLink HD.
