Ext card problem.....Help me plzzzz 😠 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Evening all. I've a problem flashing anything from ext card. Whatever rom or recovery gaves me an error.
I've many roms stored and only one will flash and that's blacktox kitkat.
See screen shot for a couple of many errors I get.
I've formatted the card so many times thinking that's the problem. Seems to work for a Lil while but as soon as I flash any kitkat roms then trouble starts over again.
I've tried the card fix app in plays tore, flashed some fixes that's been posted around Xda but to no avail.
So am thinking maybe a faulty sd card?
Any help in solving this as I seem to be losing all my hair ?
Tah very muchly ?

Just a shot in the dark, have you checked the MD5 sum of all the ROM zip files and made sure it matches? Faulty SD card wouldn't let you flash any ROM ,have you tried flashing any 4.3 ROM?

Hi mate. No havent checked the md5 sum. Its strange as the roms are on ext card. I flash one after download then i dont get any probs. Then something new comes out so flash that. And if i want to go back to the previous rom without a nandroid backup im unable to flash it.
And another problem if i do a backup i get md5 error when trying to restore it also if i move anythin from internal to ext card then i have lots of trubl, roms, kernel or anything flashable it wont let me.
Ive tried every rom here on xda lol and always flash clean with all the wipes.
Out of all the many roms on ext card im only able to flash one, same as revovery and kernel i just get the stupid error cant read................
Its a pain in the butt. ?

definitely sounds like a bad download
This is actually the second rom I tried to flash.

hmmm got me beat.
you can try tdj's super wipe and wipe everything clean
you can try flashing a new CWM
try another ROM?
another microsd?
go back to stock and flash again?
if none of those works then yeah... don't know what to say. make sure to check the md5 to save yourself a lot of time

yup. not from any folders.
oh sorry didn't see this post, but basically the MD5 checksum allows us to check if the file we downloaded exactly matches the original file
example (not real obviously)
Thursday ROM has a MD5 of 1234abcde
but what you downloaded has 2234abcde
that means you have a bad download. there is probably a couple bytes different in your download.
like both files can both be 300.1MB
but they might actually be 300.12 and yours is 300.10
THATS why md5 saves us a lot of time
NOT all md5 are listed, but thats the gist of it.
oh and remember your SDCARD card is
sdcard/external_sd/
That's the thing I tried a couple of roms and they all failed. So I'm pretty sure it's my phone.
In this case scenario what should I do to re root my phone. I know there's a couple different ways such as unrooting to sell.
So which method should I approach?
Thanks for all your help btw!

You don't need to Reroot, rooting is just superuser.. it just sounds like you need to get a new recovery that's all. You're already rooted right?
then just download Rom manager and reflash the CWM recovery in there.
Yes i am rooted. Can you link me to a site where I can dl a rom manager?

CWM external SD card unable to mount

I was having no problems using and accessing my external sd card from within CWM. Than after some flashes and wipes trying out different roms, and even a complete reset to original rom through ODIN to try and fix it. I can no longer use my external sd card in CWM. It says something along the lines of E:/ cannot mount external sd. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and if there are any solutions?

If the card still reads on your PC I would try to take everything off it and re-format the card. Also maybe try TWRP.I don't have CWM right now but there is probably a selection in it to mount/unmount sd.I know in TWRP the option is there.
HaHa, I had the same problem last night and after spending 5 hrs +, I finally fix it...
After flashing some PA, Jellybam roms, both recovery and the rom can no longer see my mircoSDXC 64gb card. Flashing the latest cwm or twrp did't work. Doing numerous quick and full format on the card to fat32 and exfat didn't work. Restore the stock rom and finally the rom can see the card; however recovery still can't read it. Formatting the card with the rom didn't work. Went to the store and grab a brand new card and still no luck. FINALLY... odin a new cwm recovery fix the problem.... :banghead:

Did you use goo manager to flash? That just pushes the recovery img to the phone not flash it. Ive never had a problem with TWRP with any phone or tablet ive used. CWM on the other hand....thats a different story.

Here's my data point. I had the exact problem of clockworkmod unable to mount external sd card while making a nandroid backup. I tried it via the paid ROM manager plus app without any luck. I sent them a log file.
Then I tried goo manager + twrp and it worked. I donated to twrp.

GooManager/TWRP worked for me.
Sucks trying to use internal memory to flash with only 16GB total.
This is a limitation of driver support for ExFAT, you can force windows into formatting fat32 using a 3rd party utility like this one:

Problem: unable to save screenshot, USB storage missing

Let me apologize for not using the search, not sure how to use it on this xda app.
Anyways just flash Infamous s4 4.0. Now having that problem. Did a clean wipe prior.
Phone is also showing " unfortunately, system UI has stopped" after reboot.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
With Infamous, it's recommended you wait about 5 minutes after flashing before setting up your phone.
-What recovery did you use to flash?
-Do you have 64gb sd card and what format?
I followed the OP skip pass setup wizard waited 5plus mins at home screen then reboot.
I have a 32gb ext sd , don't know the format.

A 32gb card should not be any problems. I would take a look at the TWRP v2.6 as others have problems with Infamous using that version.
Try TWRP 2.5.0.2 or CWM base recovery.
I would Odin back to start and start over with a different recovery, it might or might not be your problem but that's the 1st thing to look at IMO.

If you did just restore backup, if not do a clean install (full wipe, ect. like you did the first time.
As for infamous rom, I'm getting the screen shot error but it's still being saved so I guess I'll deal with it for now. Now I gotta find out how to update the 3minite framework. I paid and download the 3minite app 3.2 version but infamous only comes with 3.1 app is not compatible. Not my day for new roms lol

[Q] CWM Warning No File_Contexts

Hi,
I have the Google Play Edition rom installed on T-Mobile Galaxy S4. I have accidentaly deleted the Clockworkmod folder from the internal storage. Now I can reboot in CWM recovery however on the main CMW screen I see a "Warning: No File_Contexts".
Should I be worried about this? Will I able able to flash a different rom, do and restore a nandroid back up with this warning?
If not what should I do to make the warning disappear?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

Thanks, I'm using original CWM. I was able to do nandroid back up without issues and then successfully flashed a ROM as well as mods.
I did see in one of the thread that quite a few people encountered that issue but they just ignored it, which is what I did.

I also get this no file_contexts error.
I updatet from CMW 6.0.3.3. to CMW 6.0.3.6 via ROM Manager. Than I reinstalled 6.0.3.6 again to see if error goes away, but this error is still there.
But it seems that error does not have an effect.

Yeah I just got my phone yesterday, and I've had this problem every time I've booted into CWM Recovery. I updated, tried different versions - didn't matter, still get the "no file_contexts" error.
I even tried TWRP and OUDHS Recovery, and had the same issue. I don't know what exactly is causing it, but it hasn't really negatively affected anything that I can see.
Just ignore it. Everything works fine.

I have the same error message and I have no problem making nandroid backups. I always check the option bank up to external sd card. It works perfectly fine. Also flashes go just fine too. Don't worry about the error message. Not sure but I think saying no files are backed up to INTERNAL storage which is fine because you generally want them stored on your EXTERNAL sd storage anyway. If they went to internal you would loose most of your phones memory with a few backups. So don't worry. All is well. Just store your nandroid to external sd card. When its time to restore simply choose backup from EXTE R NAL sd card. So don't worry about that message. Hope this helps
the error message is gone in CWM 6.0.4.4.

[Q] flashing a rom without bricking?

I cant flash a rom and have it work. I have tried several ROMS like aokp, jedi, smooth, jellybeans, etc and they almost always brick. Jedi worked but google services crashed back to back to back to the point where i couldnt even use the phone. does anyone know of a 4.3 rom that works on att sgh-i317?? i basically went down the list on galaxynote2root.com and tried them all but no success.
I have root, have TWRP installed and flash the rom and it bricks. i factory reset first, then install and nothing.
any ideas?

rebooted into recovery
installed AOKP ROM
booted and bricked- hangs at "X" aokp bootup screen

I did those exact steps and it did not work. i tried flashing pac man rom the last time and it got stuck in a boot loop too. I think there are some files that are corrupt or some temp files somewhere that are preventing a successful flash. my binary flash count was 9. and that was just on this run, ive tried flashing several times before. each time the only way to recover it is hooking the phone up to a pc and using kies to flash back to stock firmware. this sucks.

Uh....yeh...not right ...
Have you messed with device partitions in ODIN ??
If so...something is definitely wrong ...
At this point ...you may want to consider a full return to stock and allow the PIT to properly restore your partitions..
Just follow the return to stock guide (sticky )...in the general section ..
Once restored to stock with a corrected flash counter you can begin again using CF auto root as your root method..
It sounds as if you have root issues and possible partition damage...
One other step you can try first is to boot into download mode and re-root using CF...
That may help....but certainly won't hurt anything...then attempt a clean flash again..
If it fails ...then the return to stock and rooting again seems prudent ...g

Then I installed clockword mod recovery, booted to recovery mode, cleared all cache and davlik and factory reset again, then installed the aokp and it got stuck in a boot loop

Here's what I do with twrp when flashing a rom.
Go to wipe menu and then advanced wipe and select dalvik, cache, data, system and internal(optional). I do it three times to make sure. then flash your rom with gapps (if aosp)
