[Q] How to root Verizon G Pad? - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I was wondering if anybody had found a method to root the G Pad on Verizon Wireless. I've searched everywhere and apparently the methods for the standard version won't work but I've also not seen methods for the Verizon model. Thanks for your help!

Tethering for Verizon Model

I was wondering if tethering has been unlocked for the verizon model. I was gonna go get a g3 today at my local verizon but I need to have tethering.
I see that root is out for all the versions so I'm assuming someone has come up with a tethering method.

Ok this forum isn't near as hopeful as we were over on the g2. It's just a simple question
I've looked around and don't see anything mentioning tethering so I guess it's not out yet.
Is there anyone actively working it? Things seem slow over here on the G3 compared to how the G2 forum was when it first dropped. I really like this phone and I'm sure over time it will get some devs working on it. I just really would like to know if tethering is being worked on at all or if anyone knows of a method that just hasn't been posted yet. I know on a couple smartphones I've owned guys have figured out tethering methods for themselves and then later ended up sharing them with the rest of us non developers.
Anyway, thanks to anyone who bothers reading and/or replying.
PS. I always use the thanks button! I have over 1700 thanks in only 6 months of activity on android forums ;]
There was a discussion earlier somewhere...I think this is it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/help/g3-hotspot-hack-t2812305
Haven't tried it, though I'm hoping it works as I'd like to use it.

Thanks for your response. I didn't realise there was a verizon G3 forum.
The tethering mod works perfect.

Stock Firmware for LG G Pad 7.0 LTE

I am looking for the stock original LG G Pad 7.0 LTE firmware. mine is acting really funky. The keyboard lags like crazy. and in the home screen long press to remove a short cut takes about 1 minute. I factory reset about 3 times already and still does it.
Since there isn't a forum for Pad 7.0 or Pad 7.0 LTE hoping someone have an idea where to obtain the original firmware.

To revert back to stock try use 8.3 manual from this thread
Is this compatible to the 7.0 v730 also? I have the Sprint LTE version.

The method in the thread mentioned won't harm your device if it's not compatible, but it probably is.
My sprint version of the G Pad F7.0 just tells me to check model and serial number when I try to use the lg tool.
Is it the Wi-Fi or LTE model?

I have the sprint one also, and I can't find anything for this tablet. I have root but no recovery. It's LTE.

Any working ROMs for Korean G-PAD? (v507)

Hi guys, I just got an LGU+ G-Pad. (LGU+ is one of the service providers in Korea)
I have TWRP installed, and was wondering if there are any ROMs out there that will work on my tablet? I have done some research (spend around 3 hours on Google and Korean portal sites), and the general consensus seems to indicate that the LGU+ G-Pad is different from the v500 and v510 models, in that it has an internet phone utility, although I have no idea if that's the reason why most of the G-Pad ROMs will not work?
Sorry for that long wall of text, I just want to know if there are any ROMs that will work.
Thanks x1,000,000 !!

Looks like the answer to my question is a "no", in case anybody else is interested...
The only thing I could do was root using Towel root and/or Kingo root.
Maybe you can have a try to flash v507l to v500.
You can search "LG G PAD 8.3 홈보이(V507) 을 GPAD 8.3(V500) 으로 바꾸기" at google.
Waitting for your good anews.

LG G Pad II 8.0 V498 sub forum ?

Hello,
I am trying to root an LG G Pad 2 8.0 (V498) but i cannot find the subforum for it, it doesnt seem to exist...
Does anyone knows where i can find any infos for this model ?
thanks!
its a relatively new model, especially in Canada.
I got one from Fido Wireless, but the sticker says v497; I have the gpad 2 8.0, but with wrong sticker?
anyways, there are plenty of guides to try in the lg g3 forum along side the one click root methods like kingoroot, root genius, and more...
LTE / data units are v495, v496, v497, and the wifi only version g pad II is V498 all sport the same hardware features other than data of course. I've rooted my v495 using the method in the all info v496 thread and it looks like they are making headway in development.
Thank you, Bryan.
that clarifies things for me.
so, do we know whats being worked on? like recoveries, kernels, etc...?
if so, do we know about cross-compatibility for each model?
Hi there will anyone out there be able to direct me to the root method for the Lg G Pad
Rogers version v497 any help would be appreciated

Look here, use at your own risk, I recently bricked my V495 AT&T trying to load TWRP Custom recovery. Rooting was not a problem though.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/help/tmobile-gpad-f-8-0-v496-info-t3139894
Being that there is no v498 sub, I guess I'll side track this thread a little. Someone mentioned here that v495-v498 are all essentially the same hardware. My son cracked the screen on his v498. I found only 1 supplier selling a specific v498 screen, from China, for $90.. I have found plenty of the other models like v495 or v496 for a little cheaper and in the US. I'm wondering if anyone knows if these other LCD/Digitizers should work on the v498? I have it opened up and, I actually see a LG-V495 stamped in the plastic even though the back sticker says V498, so I am assuming the v495/v496 screens should work on this, but just want to verify before I order one.

This is a little late to the game, but here's what worked for me on the wifi-only LG G Pad II 8.0 (v498), and it might help others.
I used Kingroot (4.8.2) to root the tablet, then used Supersume Pro from the Play Store to remove Kingroot and install Supersu. (I'd tried a couple other methods for removing Kingroot first, but they didn't work, and Supersume Pro (v. 9.3.7) nworked really quickly and with zero pain, so that's the method I'd recommend. It does cost a few bucks, but IMO, it was worth it for the ease of use.) It's working perfectly. (Supersume Pro is available at the Play store at: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=darkslide.com.supersumepro -- can't post the link because I'm a new member.)
I've rooted before using clockwork mod, etc., on other devices, but Kingroot does make rooting simpler. If you don't trust Kingroot for rooting, another method might work, but I had trouble finding one specifically for this device.
Cons to using Kingroot (and keeping it):
1. It installs a cleaner app called "Purify" which you may or may not want, and which you have to install to get to the rooting screen. It can be uninstalled separately, though.
2. Kingroot really messed with my Okay Google app. It turns itself on in "Accessibility" mode (or however you might put that correctly), and when turned off from the Accessibility settings, Okay Google will work again. However, Kingroot "insists" on turning itself on in the Accessibility settings, and will keep resetting, overriding your setting. It may also hijack other aspects of the tablet that I didn't notice -- I replaced it with SuperSU shortly after rooting.
3. Many people are nervous about the amount of data sent to the Kingroot servers in China during the rooting process. I'm on the fence about whether it's dangerous or not. I think it potentially is -- regardless of the location or ownership of the servers -- but I have no idea whether it's *actually* dangerous or not. If that aspect worries you, you should try another method to root your tablet. I think I would have been more reluctant to use Kingroot if I had the version of this tablet with the sim card.
4. Kingroot is quite recalcitrant to removal and replacement. Two methods that I used to try to remove Kingroot (without unrooting the device) didn't work -- and even after the program was no longer on the tablet, I could not replace its su with a different binary. I had to reinstall and uninstall using SuperSume. I might have had better results replacing it with SuperSu manually if I'd been more patient, but I didn't want to spend too much time on it.
Pros to using Kingroot:
1. It's fast.
2. It requires little technical skill.
3. It can be removed and replaced with SuperSu (or, presumably, some other superuser manager), though that ranges from very easy (using SuperSume) to extremely difficult (especially if you don't play with rooting a lot -- and people with only one or two Android devices generally root once then forget it till the next time they need to root a new device, and so don't have a huge amount of experience with it).
I hope this helps someone!
I'm going to be receiving my tablet soon and since it's stuck with Android 5.0 I was hoping to find a custom ROM with Android 6 but it turns out there's not even a thread for this device. Does anybody knows of any ROMs for this device? I'm getting mine from Fido and it's also LTE enabled. Rooting is not required for me since I'm not really into customization much but having the latest version of Android is important.

I also have an V497 - Fido and would like to change the ROM since it becomes slow and almost unusable. Stuck on Android 5. Have you finally found any options like LOS or other working for G Pad II V495-V498 family?
Thanks in advance
