In one location, roaming gives my 5 bars while 3g gives me 0-1. How do I force the phone into roaming instead of my Sprint service at this location?

Running CM6, if I switch to forced roaming (Settings>Wireless & network settings>Mobile networks>Affiliated networks), I can only get 1X data. Is there a way to get 3G roaming, other than the "load a Verizon PRL" hack?
is there anyway to bake this into a rom? or app?
First I'd like to say that I have seen
777kbps down or 3g speeds while connected to verizon with the sprint prl 11121.prl
unfortunately this is not sustainable
I came across this link http://mikescloset.blogspot.com/2011/10/force-roaming-on-samsung-epic-4g.html
and was able to go into QXDM and change the NV_RAM roam_pref to 0x0002
when i have the right prl installed then this will cause 3g roaming speed on verizon
the issue is that the system will change the NV_Ram setting back to either 0x00FF (anyone, but data roam 1x) or 0x0001 (sprint only).... then in order to get back to 0x0002 (Roam only 3g) you have to use qxdm... which is a pain
unfortunately you cant leave the phone on 0x0002, since it will only use roaming towers... but it would be great to have an option "roam"... which would force the roam
also Roam control does not work... or at least i cannot get it to work... it forces roam, but at the 1x speed, not the 3g speed
Thanks,
ox!
So here is my grudge as of now with the gnex. When I go from roaming to 3g or airplane to 3g, it takes an unbelievably long time to actually GET the 3g signal. It will show me that I have 3 or 4 bars of service but does not show me the little 3g icon. I am currently running Sourcery 3.2 as my rom and have my mobile network set to CDMA only. Is this a common issue or do I have a possible shotty gnex?
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 and at some point yesterday T-Mobile switched on LTE service in my area. Speeds were faster as expected but I also noticed that the carrier signal dropped from solid 4 bars to 1-2 bars after the LTE migration. This morning I noticed that I missed a call that went straight to voicemail and then I wasn't able to reply to a text message (it kept failing to deliver)
So I played with the settings and it's definitely the case that my signal strength is being affected by LTE. When I go to Mobile Network settings and change the Network Mode to "GSM/WCDMA" with HSPA+ 4G, I get 4 bars (-83 dBm) while switching back the default Network Mode "LTE/GSM/WCDMA" brings it down to 2 bars (-100 dBm) - I attached screenshots of the status screen and the service mode.
Should I be concerned about this? Is the poor signal strength just a temporary setback because T-Mobile is still tweaking its LTE network?
Anyone?

I have an E980. Signal keeps on dropping mainly because of the 4g connection having low signals. Couldnt find anywhere the 4g to 3g settings.
On KK 4.4.2. How can i switch settings to ONLY 3G or perhaps limit it to ONLY 2G?
