[Q] Removable plastic protector on the backside? - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On the other Xperia Z devises I've had the fabric mounted shatterproof plastic were easy to remove on both the front andoor back. Good since they get scratched really fast.
On my compact it just doesn't seem to be any plastic to peel off. Anyone know about this?

There is no ASF in the back of compact. Additionally some people report the back is easily scratched

Shoot. I wish I would have known this sooner. The back of my phone has a few scratches but I didn't worry about it because I thought it was the asf. I think I might try to replace the back with the glass panel.

I have the same thought as you, and right now mine is heavily scratch. I think I just install the TG on the back panel since replace it with a glass one is so damn complicated.

Z1 f back cover is a glass panel with an asf, which is compatible with Z1 compact.
ASF can keep scratches away from the back cover but it can't anti scratches itself. So you'd better put a back protector flim if you don't like the scratches.
I found the other thread talking about the Xperia Z1 compact back cover and Xperia Z1f back cover. You can know more about their different from that.

I don't think theres anything you can do. *Any* kind of protector will greatly affect image quality. It's just the way things are. Best bet is to find a case with some kind of removable cover?
Or is it possible to buy only the back cover of the phone?
I meant the battery door ...
I still remember the olden days, I was trying to replace the back cover of my HTC Kaiser and it was difficult to find.

not sure how an extra battery door will help protect your camera lens?
But yea, I'm sure you'll be able to find replacement back covers in due time.

Search eBay now, they're available. I bought one.
Martin Fields protectors almost always include a camera lens protector. I don't think their protector pack is out yet for the gn though.
yea..back covers all over ebay.
Is there any chance the camera lens cover is glass? On my HTC Desire it was hardened plastic (part of battery case) and I went through 3 back covers over 2 years due to nasty scratches on the lens cover. I think the cover on the nexus looks glass though? I think covering it with anything might cloud images, but keeping it in a pouch would be good idea. Keep it from rubbing against grit in pocket or surfaces.

what is your opinion?

I took mine off as well, I found the glass had a weird residue on it after I removed the ASF. I used nail polish remover and it seemed to get rid of it. The are two problems with how sony deals with its ASF. One it is easily scratched and hurts the screen clarity, two the glass itself has no anti fingerprint coating.
IU would suggest removing it and finding a good screen protector that has a nice glass like feel to it. I have been using the Clairvue, but you can find multiple posts where people suggest their favorite. Ideally you could find a tempered glass one but I have since moved to the xperia z and my wife uses the ZL, so I'm not sure if there is any out for the ZL.

Z1 is larger than Xperia Z so the protector will not cover the whole screen

even if they both were 5 inches ? :crying:
Yes as the bezel around the z1 is longer. So you will have a gap either on the top or bottom

Yea i bought the Z front + back like a fool, i would have sworn i was looking at the right one, but i cut the warranty seal as soon as i got it xD.
I ordered the one for the Z1 and im about to put it on, looks awesome. i still want one for the back though, the glass just feels much better then urethane, although the urethane has a more rugged feel for the back, as it flexes and does not shatter.

They are nicer for the grip but don't look nearly as good. But they don't add thickness. I just got my glass protector for the back and want to see if it will fit in my dock with the glass-m on the front and this generic one on the back.
After removing sony's screen protector, how do I clean the glass and remove any glue left?
Is it safe to remove it and keep the glass exposed while I wait for the new protector?
I would wait till you get it. My glass m took about 2 weeks (or felt like it) to come. I read some one washed it with soapy water. But I left it on. Glass m comes with a wipe cloth and pre sticker for dust. I done mine in bathroom when it was steamy

my protector is already scratched, so I am gonna remove it...
What I heard ina nice video, once you peel it off, is not to use any cotton cloth, as it may stick on the glue, but to use instead a micro-fiber + spary glass cleaner

Yep and you might want to dip your fingers in a liquid soap and water so you can touch the back without leaving fingerprints. Also if you get soap water between the phone and protector it will let you position the glass before you press it down.
I like how i don't need to turn off the phone at any point lolz.

Sorry but I do not get what you mean...
What's the problem with fingerprints at the bac? i am not changing the film at the back.
Do i need to wet the glass before positioning the new film?
What do you mean with your last sentence?
i purchased 2 tempered glass screen protector so far, all chipped off after few days of using it. super fragile and chip off when slight drop or bump.
Do yourself a favor and get the Spigen glass protector. Their products are wonderful and high quality, albeit a little more expensive.

I heard people having issues with Spigen applying properly so I went and ordered a Glass-M last night. I'm hoping MIME releases their Ghost GLass for the Z1 soon. I emailed them and this is what I got back:
Hi Pavel,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this! We are currently gauging interest for the Z1. If we receive enough requests we will definitely make it happen

I've used Spigen a couple times on my GS4 with no application issues. Why a couple times? Dropping from 6ft up or more on to cleverly placed rocks and corners of raised floor plates hitting the glass just right after several months of great protection. You literally clean the phone off, make sure there's no dust and slap it on.
Little bit off topic, but i wondered if these glass screen protectors designed for the z1 would fit on the z1s from t-mobile? z1s supposedly a little longer but i am not sure if it's the bezel or sides

Doubtful. The placement of the FFC and proximity/light sensors are swapped between models so the hole for the sensors are on the opposite side that they need to be on for the Z1s.

Yeah I realized that so I would have to get the glass protector with no holes cut out

choosing a case for Z1

Hi everyone, I recently got the Xperia Z1 and I love it! I was looking for a good case to protect it, but there are so many that I'm not sure what to buy. Last week the phone accidentally fell to the floor because it was vibrating, luckily the phone is ok, but the front glass cracked and needs to be replaced. So now I'm looking for some good protection.
It would be great to hear your opinions about which protections do you think is best.
Thanks a lot for the help!

Get a tempered glass screen protector. And my friendly tip, tempered glass on front, a film back protector (on the back obviously) and then get a case the covers the WHOLE SIDE OF THE PHONE, INCLUDING the bottom and top parts. trust me. I had a case on and my phone still got a dent near the earphone jack when it fell on a very rough surface from chest height. If you want full protection for the sides and corners, get a case that wraps around the phone. maybe a bumper. The film protector and tempered glass will take care of the front and back.
P.S.
I use a Illumishield screen protector for the back, and a Alibaba Tempered Glass protector on the front (9H Hardness).
thanks for the tips! I'll look for a case and a tempered glass protector
I agree with mahalkosijoy.
Get a tempered glass for the front screen. Protective film for the back is optional. For me, it is much better to get a hard back cover like CapDase. Be mindful on the slot for the camera and flash when buying cases as this can affect your image like flashbleeds on the captured image.
thanks for all the help. I'm having a really bad time with this. I had to buy the replacement for the display+lcd on the web because nobody has it where I live, it was quite expensive. I took the phone to a technician to install it, and the screen seems to be failing, it turns on, all black, and some fine vertical lines. I contacted the seller, but he won't give me a new one, said warranty is void after you try to install it.
Really sad

I have never gone to such depth of z1, but something tells me that the lcd is not correctly connected
I thought the same, the lcd might not be connected properly, but I don't know about this, so I had to trust the technician. I sent the piece back and we'll see if I can get a replacement.

[Q] Easily Scratchable Back

Is it true that the rear of the phone is easily Scratchable ?
Is the rear in the Z3 Compact is much more better because it is glass ?
If I Helped, Leave A Thanks!

yes it is true. my z1c's back looks like i dragged it through a marathon even though i rarely put it on tables or other surfaces other than my hand/pockets. z3c should be a lot harder to scratch since it's glass. though z1c is a lot tougher to break as proven in drop tests and impact tests.
yes
i can confirm too.
daily use scratches the back way more than the front.
Yeah these scratches are sick. Got the phone for like 2 weeks and it has few scratches on front and back.
yep, that why i use screen guard both fron and back.
sony really went full retard with this thing.
i bought a custom skin for the back from amazon for $15. it looks really good and the fit is excellent. you should get one. i also purchased a tempered glass for the front from nillkin.
