FoxFi with ZVC on Sprint - Sprint LG G2

Just wondering what people are experiencing. Is it working on Sprint? I haven't reloaded it yet since updating to ZVC

Sprint Hotspot working for free?

So, I just got my S3 today and immediately rooted it. I mainly just want to tether wirelessly. I don't care to flash new ROMS just yet.
Anyway, before I froze the Sprint Hotspot app with Titanium, I opened up the app just to look around. On my old school Evo 4G it would always tell me I would need to activate the service to use the feature. I just used the free android tether.
I started it up and it is working? I tethered it to my iPad... Is this normal?
I didn't get a notice that it's a paid app or anything.
I checked my account, online, and it still shows wireless hotspot as an option to subscribe to, but it is not listed as part of my plan options.
I am wondering if I use it if Sprint is going to just add it to my bill. When I was with Tmobile I got EDGE data for free for 2 years because of some glitch... I lost it when I upgraded.
Maybe this is a similar glitch? Just wondering of this has happened to anyone else?
No, they can't just add it to your bill. It either works or doesn't work.
In your case, it must just be a favourable fluke that it is working, but I'll wager that eventually down the road you'll get the standard message about subscribing to a hotspot plan.
On a side note, have you tried FoxFi? It's a tether app that does not require root.

To add to this, you won't find FoxFi in the play store. Sprint took it off for all sprint users. Instead, you'll have to google FoxFi, find their website, and install the APK.
Just tried foxfi , could not get it to work on my sprint g3

I just tried tethering on my stock non rooted Galaxy S III and it worked as well. I i don't have a subscription either so it makes me wonder if it works as a trial or something.

I tried both the Sprint Hotspot and FoxFi on my rooted stock Sprint Galaxy S3. Neither one worked.
this is what the cool kids are using for tethering lol. http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_2-pre1.apk set device profile for galaxy nexus(cdma and gsm both work) in the settings. foxfi sucks. its nice if u dont wanna root but if ur already rooted its pointless to waste ur time with it. someone had to say it.

I can CONFIRM that the current version of foxfi does not work on an unrooted Sprint SGS3. Also, the android-wifi-tether is not working, either, on a ROOTED Sprint SGS3 (LG2 - haven't tried it with LG8 release yet).
Sprint seems to be trying pretty hard to prevent its users from wifi tethering (without one of their wifi data plans).
On my current phone foxfi and the andorid tether app both act up. They let me connect for a while and then they just stop working. It may be the phone though. If I do usb tether though I can stay one for days.
I cant wait till I get my s3 next week though.

I can't get WIFI to work at all, but USB tethering via Easytether works great.
Never tried foxfi unrooted but can confirm it doesn't work on my rooted phone. WiFi tether works just fine for me tho(on all modems: Len,lf9,lg2,lg8). I think the problems people are having is just because of the phone being new. I don't think iT has anything to do with sprint trying to block it.

FoxFi says on their site (right now!) ...
"*Support for the new Galaxy S3 and the new ICS update for Epic Touch are being worked on. Should be compatible soon in a future update."
My GS3 is not rooted yet. FoxFi didn't work ... neither Wifi, nor BlueTooth mode for Hotspot. BUT, the Sprint basic Hotspot is working even without me enabling it in my account. Hmmm.
Will try to root and try the google base wifi tether sometime soon.

Yeah the sprint app is working for me too and I don't have a tethering plan either.

wifi tether and roam control

Any wifi tether guru's working on a hotspot fix for our phones? I would like to follow that post or website and Im sure that theres plenty of others who would like to know as well. Sure all the mods/color/themes are nice but really theres nothing that compares to being able to wifi tether for free on a rooted phone and or being able to force roam when you have a terrible signal. I have a new found respect for those developers. So who does it? would love to donate for the cause

Its JB so no that wont work.
You're kidding me. I'll never get wifi tether on this phone??
prob not no jb phone has gotten it yet.
Thats why I am asking who cracked GB , and ICS?? just suddenly appears on the internet?
how bout roam control??
What do you mean no JB phone has wifi tether. I was running JB and tethering on my HTC evo. Is this a Samsung issue?

WIFI tether issues with custom roms

Hello Guys,
I am having WIFI Tether issues with any custom AOSP or AOKP rom. Installing a touchwiz related rom somehow resolves the tethering issues.
I've trying all the usual steps before installing a custom rom including wiping everything, factory reset and all that good stuff. But the native tether wont work on these roms. I tried the wifi tether apps in the app store but no success there.
However, what really gets to my nerves is that my daily driver is 4.1.2 liquid smooth rc7 version of the rom which i assume is based on aosp does allow wifi tether but only through the app in the app store. The native app continues to fail.
Someone once told me to install the wifi driver for the phone. Is that possible? If so how? By the way i am running a rogers s3 which is the at&t equivalent in US.
Also, just so you guys know, my other devices do pick up the wireless set up by my phone's tether, but it wont connect to it. password or not, it takes forever to connect and eventually fails.
Any advice?

If you carrier is Rogers, you need to make some mods to tether 4G (H+, 3G will work w/o mods). There's a post about it somewhere in Task's AOKP thread, which I believe a search should find it. Google can also help.
Same issue here, Rogers LTE tethering didn't work and tried to google and find the mods as posted.
couldn't find the mods.
Please advise.

Thank you for persisting with the solution for us.

Yeah, Thanks for the link too
However I am not able to get LTE tethering speed
I am able to get LTE speed (10mbps+) on my S3, however the device that's using the tethering only able to get (~1mbps)
any idea?

It's dependent of the device receiving it. If it's too old or it's drivers are too old it won't get the speed it should. Also tethering shares the connection, therefor, you won't get full speed on the receiving device.
Could be so many things actually that's it's hard to troubleshoot.
Thanks for the quick reply,
However, I am using CM10.1 latest Nightlies 04/26.

I think you got me wrong.
Your S3 doesn't really matter here as much as the device receiving the connection.

Like I said, it's dependent of so many things. First off, what device it receiving it? Is that device old? Are it's drivers up to date? Does it have a good reception/connectivity?
Did you try tethering to other devices?

[Q] Any wifi tethering solutions for non-root users?

I'm on an older TMobile business value plan that includes 5GB high speed data, but no tethering. Given the seeming uncertainty of the various root methods at the moment I'm staying completely stock for now. Are there any wifi tethering solutions that will work for me right now? I've tried FoxFi but I always get the T-Mobile upsell page. I'd be happy to pay for any app that actually works.

Without root there is no solution for wifi tethering and all the other features
and options people enjoy with their rooted phones.
If all you do is root the phone without flashing any custom roms then
it's really easy to get the phone back to official stock condition just by
opening the supersu app and select option to fully "unroot".
After doing that your phone will be in the exact same condition as it is right now. (unrooted)
Good luck!

I have a question for you then. I have the Sprint Samasung Galaxy Note 2, and I love my roms and root. The main thing I love with root is the ability to wifi tether and use my tablet in my car or where ever. How would I go about getting the new 4.3 OTA coming out on Nov 20th to Sprint, and still have my wifi tether. Can I go back to stock, take the 4.3 OTA and just simply root and turn on wifi tethering? Or is it rom specific or a specific apk? Thanks, I really want the 4.3 official and wifi tethering. Then I would be happy for a while.

Did you find out if Tethering provision works on 4.4.2 yet?
I just wanted to share my most recent experience with this. I used this method earlier this year to tether and it has worked great until now. I just received a letter from AT&T informing me that I must remove all tethering apps, which I had no other except this apk in place, or they would upgrade my plan to a tethering plan at the end of this month. It appears AT&T found a way to track this method, or they are assuming tethering is taking place due to high data usage during the last billing cycle.
I just wanted to share my experience and thank everyone for the help, it was great while it lasted!
