I was upgrading my n7100 from 4.1.2 to the
MJ5 4.3 ROM. I wanted to back up my data with a nandroid so that I could retain my app data. After I made the nandroid I tried restoring it. After that I got stuck at the Samsung logo in a perpetual boot loop. I tried deleting the cache and davit cache and that took me to the part where it says android is optimising apps after software upgrade but once the upgrading finishes the phone restarts again and then gets stuck at the Samsung logo again in a boot loop. The only solution to get by this is to delete data/factory reset in Cwm. But then I lose all data. Is there any way to recover the app data? I still haven't upgraded to 4.3 and am still on 4.1.2.
Thanks!!
Wipe data and do a factory reset. Don't format the internal sd if u had made your backup in the internal memory of your phone. Once the phone starts use Titanium backup to restore all your stuff from the nandroid backup.

OK I'll try that. Does that work even after I have changed android versions? Or gone from TW based romantic to AOSP based rom?

Yesterday I was messing on my phone (GSM Galaxy Nexus running AOKP Milestone 3) when the phone rebooted itself. It's done this a few times before so I thought nothing of it. However, now when the phone boots, it gets to the boot animation, plays it for a few seconds, and the the phone reboots again.
I have tried to fcatory reset, flashing a new rom, restoring a nandroid, but no matter what I do it still gets stuck in a bootloop.
Can anyone help me? I really need to get this phone working.
Thanks.
did you try wiping the phone, cache, and dalvik cache before trying to flash a new rom and nandroid?

Yeah I wiped all three before trying to restore the nandroid. I have just noticed that at the end of the nandroid backup there is a message that saying "error while restoring /data". Could this be the cause?
EDIT: I wiped my phone a returned it to stock and it's working fine now.

I'm having the same issues. I even tried to restore a nandroid which I had restored to just 2 days ago without problems. Now it's showing the infamous "error while restoring /data" message.
You say you wiped your phone and returned to stock. Do you still use stock? Do you mean you unlocked the bootloader again which effectively deleted ALL data and started from scratch? I did that because of the same error just about a week ago and it took me 2 days to get everything installed and configured manually. I hate the thought of having to go through this exercise once again in such a short time. Or is there a way to unlock the bootloader and restore a proven to be working nandroid later?
Also, is there a way to copy my data when I cannot boot up at all?
You may want to try unrooting and rerooting your phone. Just a suggestion...
Unless I'm mistaken this deletes ALL data which is what I wanted to avoid.
I'm currently downloading the new version 5.4 of the GNex TOOLKIT to backup all data from the virtual sdcard. Then I'll probably unroot and root again and try to copy the data back and use my last working nandroid.
Relock bootloader, then unlock it again, all in the same process!!
Then flash something like CND(any ROM will do, actually) now reboot your phone..
My Root toolbox can help you there, download the ROM-Full version though, this one has a couple of ROMs inside

Hi,
I have recently updated my phone to ARHD 8.1.0 (ICS 4.0.4) however my APN list is blank and I can't get 3g or a data connection. I still have cell coverage just no data connection. I have tried re-flashing to a previous radio and that didn't do anything. If anyone can help me sort out my APN list, whether it is a permissions thing or maybe I have to bite the bullet and re-flash to a previous rom with ICS 4.0.3 (last resort) because I am loving the speed and smoothness of ARHD 8.1.0. And I have tried to simply add the APNs again, the list continues to stay blank.
Thanks guys!
bump, anyone know?
Go into recovery and do a full wipe, re-download the boot image and ARHD rom and flash.

Okay I will try that, so a full wipe? I have done a superwipe and re-flash 3 times. But will try it again, might get lucky. Cheers mate.
Did you do a restore of any kind? Titanium backup restores including system data seem to mess with many sense settings.

Yeah I do titanium backup restores, however I currently have no data on my phone because I just did a full reset and wipe, and still my APN list is blank and I can't add any. Must be some sort of bug... Not sure.

Did you try manually re-adding them even after a clean wipe with no restore? Did you clear all caches? Davlik and normal. There shouldn't be a glitch if you are starting from scratch especially if it worked on the stock rom before.

Also, when you say wipe, do you mean reflashing the rom or just a wipe from inside the rom?

Super wipe and wipe data from CWM Recovery, cleared all the caches yes. Stock rom it was fine on 4.0.3, but since i've gone to 4.0.4 I have lost the APN list. And of course I have tried re-adding them, it still stays blank. Really annoying...
Managed to find a bit of a fix, every time I would save an APN with the MNC set at 02 the list would be blank, but if I left it at 029 it would save. My APN seems to work with 029 but it is meant to use 02. Not to worry, least it is working. Thanks for everything guys!
Hi ,
I installed CWM and I took the backup of the stock rom.
then flashed with new boot.img and installed MIUI rom, this is working fine.
I did wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache. after that I restored stock rom using CWM, restore went fine.
when I reboot phone stuck in boot loop with htc logo.
did I miss something while restoring ????

If your phone is not S-Off then restore can't update boot partition and you have to flash old boot.img manually.
The same way as you did when installing MIUI rom but different kernel image (boot.img compatible with stock rom).

I got my phone back
I went into twrp(which had just been installed using the twrp app) I then proceeded to make a new backup of my phone and found that afterwards I was no longer able to boot into android. It would automatically boot to recovery. I tried restoring the backup. and then a whole new rom. I have since found I was also unable to boot into download mode. it would still just boot into recovery. Any ideas on how I could fix this? mine is the rogers model to clarify.
Have u tried wiping dalvik cache or factory reset by Twrp?

Yes, I wiped it and tried another rom.
New info just noticed that twrp is throwing out the error E:/sbin/runatboot.sh process ended with error=1
Edit: Upon looking online at the symptoms(automatically booting into recovery no download and no system) i believe the problem may be that twrp got installed on the wrong partition or deleted partitions that it shouldn't have. I'm coming from dn4 by the way.
follow steps:
1. charge ur phone to 80%
2. Advance wipe except SD card
3. Restore Stable backup
Second Option
1. Advance Wipe all
2. Goto fastboot mode
3. Re Flash TWRP Recovery
4. Then Try Restoring Old Stable Backup

EDIT; Just out of curiosity i flashed the rom i wanted to install. Low and behold its showing the boot animation. i'll update in a few if it boots past there.
EDIT 2: booted! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP

Congratssss for Successful Boot
I need to get Data from my Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-1747 and it won't boot past the Samsung Logo.
Someone told me to...
"Get TWRP image for your S3 model, flash image using Odin, boot into TWRP recovery, mount storage to PC and recover data."
I'm very new and sorry lol. Could someone help me with the steps necessary? I have no idea what TWRP is. My phone is not rooted. Is there a guide with photos or a video? What do I need to download for Odin? How do I flash?
My phone is in the most recent Android for it.

How?
My phone is not rooted and is stuck in Bootloop.
Please and thank you if you could help.
Before you do anything, try to figure out if you can boot your phone into these 2 mode:
Download mode - With the device powered off, hold Home + Volume Down + Power
Recovery mode - With the device powered off, hold Home + Volume Up + Power. (Take a picture of your recovery mode because it will tell your bootloader version)
If you can't get into those mode, your phone is likely to have a bigger problem.

The instruction is for Samsung i9305 but it will work on d2att. To flash TWRP into your phone, you need to follow this instruction. (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/i9305/install). Also you need those files:
Heimdall suite - http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/#downloads
TWRP image - https://twrp.me/Devices/Samsung

The only way to flash stock firmware into the phone, is with the software Odin. It's basically starting your phone with a fresh firmware through 'Download Mode' with your phone (With the device powered off, hold Home + Volume Down + Power). It will erase everything.

There was a link in the thread to the official TWRP website with instructions for using Odin to install TWRP for the d2att which is the SGH-i747: : https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys3att.html
Download the tar version of TWRP from here: https://twrp.me/Devices/ I recommend starting with version 2.8.7.0 as a starting point.
Download Odin 3.07 from here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...ntid=1168421&usg=AOvVaw0aq_x8M8nbsqDFAFe9tFoy
Download and install the Windows Samsung USB drivers: https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows. I assume you are using a Windows computer.
Make sure the battery is fully charged. Open Odin, do not check anything except f reset time, click on the PDA box and select the TWRP tar file, connect the phone in download mode to the computer with the original Samsung USB cable, flash the TWRP. When you see the word reset, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove the battery, replace the battery, use the button combination to get into recovery. Once in recovery, mount the data partition and copy of the data.
WARNING: flashing a phone always involves risk and you could wind up with a bricked phone and/or loss of data. Proceed cautiously and at your own peril.
Thank You
Thank You So Much!
One love, Much Love ??????

Yes it will, you need to figure out what's making your system bootloop and resolve it or wipe data and cache.

Any idea how to investigate?
How do I wipe data and cache on TWRP?
Would backing up Data but not system, help restore files like the memos, text messages etc?
Because I could backup the Data and then wipe factory reset and then reinstall the data backup.
How do you factory reset from TWRP?

The data is what makes the system bootloop in most of the cases and since you're not rooted it is certainly the data what's causing the problem so restoring it would solve nothing.
The option is there on twrp to wipe data and cache.
---------- Post added at 05:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:39 AM ----------
To inevstigate hmmm
You need to remember what you did before the bootloop happened
For example if you installed and app try to remove it and it's data using the twrp file browser.

I think you can try to remove Google Photos apps via adb and see if it does fix your bootloop issue. Since you have a backup, you can undo your steps. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559925.

Before proceeding, I recommend copying what you can to a computer by mounting the data partition. Then, I would create a complete backup (system and data). Once completed, copy the back to at least one safe place, preferably 2.
Now, try wiping the cache only and reboot. It may be a cache problem that is preventing the phone from fully booting.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to provide instructions to back up text and notes.

Is there any other options besides factory reset?
Can the backup bring it back to the way it was or will it make it bootloop again?
I haven't used twrp for a long time but you could try restoring the backup and wipe the cache before booting.
Note that restoring your backup will overwrite what's currently in the phone storage.

The only option maybe you have is using adb to uninstall apps one by one and hope it fixes the bootloop. You can try maybe to clear the dalvik cache + cache but I think you have done that.
I have been in this situation before. It's not fun at all. The only way to backup/recover data in a modular way, is with apps like Titanium Backup [root] and Helium. Backup your app + data when the phone is working. When you have a bootloop, do a factory reset and restore the app data incrementally. They are really great apps.
