Hi there. While I was looking at the beauty of my screen, I noticed this little dot. So I freaked out. I never noticed it before so it might be either a glitch or a recently made damage. Anyways I downloaded a dead pixel tester and I saw it in different colors but it is not there when I display the green color on my screen. So this might be a stuck sub pixel? It kinda changes its color when I change the colors of the screen. Anyway, I thought that maybe it was there all along but I never noticed it so I opened the camera and BAM it's noticeable! So what caused this? I'd there a fix? I would like to keep the phone replacement the last option because I ordered from handtec.co.UK and I live in Kuwait so I will wait a while
Thanks

It's not fixable. Exchange your phone if it bothers you enough

I think there are some apps you can try which can "unstick" a dead pixel. Other than that you'll need to get it replaced
There are two types, Stuck and Dead pixels. You can unstuck a Stuck pixel by rapidly forcing it to change colour (rare, but possible to fix). There is no way to fix a Dead pixel other than replacing the screen.
There is no such thing as a stuck pixel with a amoled display, only lcd mobile displays. (Since the pixels produce there own light and don't move a shutter to adjust the backlight.)
If it's bothering you just exchange it.

are you sure that is a bad pixel and is not a speck of dust?
poweroff the display, than point a powerful lamp on the phone and see if you see the speck. Personally I have a speck of dust that seems to be a bad pixel but it isn't a bad pixel.
Samsung build quality is really poor and dust may happen.

I have a stuck pixel on my Galaxy Nexus - the green subpixel was on full brightness. I ran a pixel fixer app that really helped - now it's at about half brightness.
Wow this is new to me I had no idea this could happen. Any ideas the reasons behind this and why it can happen?

You must have incredible eye sight if you can see a dead pixel on an 320dpi screen

Anyone experiencing thin line at the top of the screen it appears green at black background and as a brighter colour on different backgrounds
I'm wondering is it software issue or rather hardware one

That just started happening to me too...I think I've just gotten used to it - though it's still annoying. I haven't looked into/researched a fix yet.

Can you post a picture? This seems very odd, I'm not sure if it's dead pixels or some other kind of glitch.

Is brightness control (or whatever it's called in the rom you're using) enabled perhaps?
It seems to come and go, worse at certain times. Right now I can barely see it, but I will post a screenshot as soon as it comes back.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
If it's hardware issue the screenshot won't show the line at all but if you can truly capture that line in a screenshot chances are it's a software fault.
Same here the line doesn't show up in screen shot
Could anyone who's experiencing the issue could post which Rom and kernel you been using?
I'm using modaco prebake and Franco kernel

You're right nothing showed up with the screen shot when it came back last night. I'm running the latest Bugless Beast 4.1 with the new radios.

I've checked new Ron same issue
If you will go to landscape mode and watch a video probably you'll realize as me that the line is at the top and bottom of the screen. The u can notice that when you press navigation keys as well
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Are you on a custom ROM and are you sure its not the battery option selected that shows a green line across the top of the screen? It changes depending on your battery percent.
I haven't really played around with better battery stats because I get pretty good charges out of the battery, but played a video earlier in landscape and the green line stayed in the same place - thinking hardware issue.

Running stock Jelly been just noticed this today, have had the phone since June I think. Phone is always in its leather case/wallet with a screen protector so no phone damage.
And it has the same issue, green line or bright colors base on the background. just one line about as thick as the pull down notification bar. It got a bit better during the day, green line in portrait disappeared, now I just notice it when horizontal. but this is the first day.
Anyone send theirs in yet for repair?
I also noticed that on my GNex as well. Big probability that it's a hardware issue, like a line of dead pixels. Doesn't bother me much though, as it's so thin I sometimes don't notice it's there. But when my OC mode gets activated, it does seem distracting @[email protected]
Why not call Samsung for warranty repair? If you are under warranty, they'll let you know to send it in.
I called (888)987-4357 for my repair and they were actually really helpful. They're located in Texas FYI
Hi!
I had the same line. It can be clearly seen when the camera is turned on, or other apps in full screen mode. Line can be green, or red, or white.
Line appears for the first time when it was low temperature outside (-20 С, i think...), two weeks ago. I took the phone out of my pocket to read message, and saw the green line at top of display.
Now, if the phone placed in a warm room, the line becomes a barely visible. In a cool place it becomes clear visible.
Today I went to the service. They reinstalled the firmware, but the line is still on the display. They said that it is hard to see this line, and maybe they must to ask Samsung about this line. They are not sure that this line is a malfunction. At the same time, they are ready to replace the display (after arriving from Samsung's stock). Not clear for me...
I'll go to the service again in a week, and will report about result.
Good luck and sorry for my English.

I have the same issue. The Green Line on top appears when it's cold outside and normally its just brighter line which you can see only in landscape mode.
I think the only thing you can do is replace the screen
Going tomorrow to service and will let you know after

I have a strange line on the top but i never saw it green. It looks like a line of pixels with different brightness.
update1: just sent my GN to customer service
update2: came back with a new full working screen
I have only noticed this when i viewed the video file on the computer using VLC. When i took a shapshot of the video, and then enlarged the picture to fit on desktop i could see the green line. It is only one pixel in width, not noticeable otherwise.
Is this really a hardware issue if it is happening to every GN phone in the same location ? I think it is software based. perhaps to make up the right pixel dimension ??

No real way to prevent it, but you can fix it easily by using Screen Diagnostic from the Play Store.
Its not a burn in, but a ghosted image. I watch YouTube videos and keep auto-rotation on. However, when I replaced my last Nexus (because of ghosting) this Nexus hasn't had the issue and I've had it longer. It may just be an actual display issue. If you get the issue you can bug Samsung/Verizon/Sprint and they'll probably send you a replacement.

The only area where I have any type of "ghosting" is where the status bar sits, and even that isn't noticeable unless the brightness is cranked up to full on a white screen. I don't really worry about it. My Nexus S has it where the status bar sits and I haven't had the issue anywhere else on the screen.
I do... I do nothing. I just use my phone the way i like and have no issues. It's been nearly year and screen is absolutely fine.
First of all, if you got warranty, go get it replaced. They might do it! I broke my screen and I bought another one officially and it's PERFECT. ABSOLUTELY perfect! So try that first!
If that doesn't help, try playing with some color values and gamma options - This helped my previous screen from ghosting and all.

Some screens really are perfect
It's a defected one my man.
On amoled screens the pixels 'fade out' over time. The pixels basically get less intense the more you use them. Because the notification bar and the soft buttons on a Galaxy nexus have a black background these pixels are hardly used at all. The rest of the screen is. So the rest of the pixels wear out faster than those in the notification bar and the soft buttons. That is how the ghosting forms. So a new screen should have zero problems, but after a year or less, the effects can already be seen.
I had this with my Nexus One and now with my Galaxy Nexus, although the ghosting was far worse on the Nexus One. Next time no more amoled for me.
Hi guys, I'm looking to get a new tablet and the G Pad seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. It is a similar size to the Nexus 7 but with a much larger screen. I have a couple of Nexus 7 2012s and they are excellent, with lots of great development tools and ROMs but the G Pad's bigger screen, thinner bezel and SD card slot are very attractive.
The 8" galaxy tab has the same but lower spec hardware.
My only reservation is LG - they were a bunch of pricks with support for the Optimus 3D. Do you guys like this tablet? Or should I get something else? To reiterate, I want something with up to date specs, SD card preferably, a small form factor and a device that doesn't give any hassle with rooting and flashing.
Have you guys run into any problems with your G Pads?
Edit: I've read issues on this forum such as unlockable boot loader (with workaround), yellow hue screen, frying SD cards, poor audio etc. Are these genuine issues?
Thanks

The non-unlockable bootloader isn't really an issue since it's been bypassed with Loki, which gets used for everything that needs to get by the bootloader. The yellow-toned screen is an issue for some people, but not others. It can be balanced out with screen tweak apps if you do have a yellowish screen. I've only seen one or two instances of sd cards getting fried, so I don't think that's a real issue. The speakers aren't great, but they really aren't any worse than any other tablet.
Apart from that, the screen brightness is lower than some other tablets, but that's only an issue if you like running a Nexus 7 on 100% brightness. Also, there's the blue line on the screen that a lot of people see. For most, it's extremely narrow and barely noticeable and doesn't seem to affect performance at all.

+1 :good:
by a point against which nobody speaks (I must surely be the only one to have noticed ...) are very average battery life: standby no problem, like it several days, but I can not exceeded 4 hours screen on.
(brightness max 60%)
whereas with my samsung tab 7.7 I easily like 7:00 with the brightness at 100%.
this is the only thing that really disappoints me about this tablet
Cheers for the responses. I'm also thinking about the very similar Asus Memo Pad 8, if anyone has any input?
Things like a black border on a white tablet don't bother me but I think a blue line would get annoying.

Huh? It's barely visible. You have to work hard to be annoyed by it.
Asus is an 8 inch tablet with a 1.6ghz quad core processor, thin bezel, SD card slot etc. Has the stuff I'm looking for.
I have not seen the blue line but will take your word it is barely visible. In that case, all the issues seem pretty minor and I'll get one. Thanks for the advice guys.

Not only that, but it's only noticeable on black backgrounds. It's one of those things that people love to complain about and nitpick about, but in reality it's no big deal and unless you're looking for it you can't see it.
I agree the blue line is not an issue. I think I may have seen it twice in the almost 2 months I have had mine, to me my tablet is perfect I have no complaints at all. The screen is plenty bright enough for me and the colors looks great I don't think mine has the yellow tint issue if it does I don't notice it.
One of the most overlooked phones of 2013, darn shame because it is one fine device.

Nice. Form factor seems great. I have a Nexus 7 so it seem unlikely I'd get this though....
I have not had any issues with mine. I really like it a lot. My screen is nice and I get about 7hours of my use with 40percent brightness which is my normal level inside. Mine runs smoothly and the screen really is a big difference to my old eyes coming from a seven inch screen.
Only things I have been disappointed with is the included remote being very limited and no third party one worrying with the ir blaster. And the fact that you cannot move apps to the SD card without rooting.
One of those is pretty minor to me and the other can be worked around by rooting when I need to. Overall I really love this thing.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Trying to decide. Does the back get noticeably warm to anyone? The display unit at BB got pretty warm near the camera area after I was on it for a while..didn't know if this was normal or just bc of display unit use/aluminum conductance
I'm between this and the n7 (2013) coming from a n7 2012

If you wanna have a bigger screen the G Pad is just the right for you.
Otherwise the N7 2013 would be equal and costs a bit less.
Moreover knock on feature would be pro G Pad and the IR blaster.
I am. Coming from a nexus. 7 which I lost. Decided to replace with something larger add I felt the 7 inch screen was not different enough compared to the note 3 own. This tablet is the perfect size and still usable in one hand. It is much better for reading. Browsing and especially PDF. The only negative compared to the nexus was the dinner screen but I use my tablet indoors mostly and the brightness had not been an issue as I rarely go above 60%. Price wise was 65$more than the nexus 7 16 gb but truthfully would have to buy the 32 no expandable storage on nexus. So then price is only 20$different

In my experience, if you use any device while charging it, it will get warm. When mine's not charging, it doesn't get very warm.
Currently have the Nexus 7 2013, thinking of exchanging for the G Pad.. Not much for quantity of Roms over here but in the end it is quality and not quantity. All I need is one good ROM. Hope I don't regret exchanging . Like the other poster I also have a Note 3 and see myself grabbing it more than my Nexus.

Hi everyone. I had a really strange issue hit me today. All was going great these few months but suddenly today my screen seems washed out. Blacks don't seem to be black but light greyish. And playing YouTube videos such as the one attached look terrible like it is a heavily compressed JPEG with terrible color clipping. It used to play perfectly before this. You can see the color clipping around where the dark area meets some light in the 2nd image (sample.jpg).
Strangely enough, taking a screenshot, it is really how the video should look (Screenshot_20190721-230137-01.jpeg).
Just wondering if anyone had this issue before? Not sure if it was a recent software update. I'm still on December update on my end so perhaps it's one of the apps.
A reboot also did not seem to resolve the issue.
Thanks in advance everyone

December? Update your phone first, preferably with a full image if you are unlocked. If that doesn't work, backup your data and do a FDR to rule out a hardware issue. If you end up calling Google for support this will be step number one, so you may as well get it over with. If you are not unlocked already, now would be a good time to do it. Unlocking will wipe the phone for you.
Update your phone buddy.
Just updated to the July update and it's still the same. The video looks terrible on my phone when compared to a Poco F1. Any chance I could trouble you guys to see if you are noticing the same banding/washed out colors on your phones as well?
Played some other videos and the same problem also occurs, especially when there's contrasty scenes. It's as though, my screen bit depth went down a little and it looks a bit like a heavily compressed JPEG when contrasty or backlit scenes appear
I looked at the same video in your OP and it looked fine. I am on Q beta 5.

Thanks fury683! I'm guessing it's probably a hardware issue of sorts. Even some of the default wallpapers are showing banding at times
Same issues are showing up on wallpapers and images as well. Those areas where there are transitions seem to be smudging and all like a low color depth display. Moved on to Q Beta 5 and the problem still remains. The issue seems to be how the screen handles dark/dim transitions.
Just wondering if anyone has any idea how to reset the screen parameters/calibration etc?

Any luck? I started facing this problem on Pixel 3a since a few days
Facing the exact same issue on my Pixel 3 XL. Were you able to find a solution?
Check your color choices under display settings. Try Boosted if it's not already selected. Maybe you had it on Boosted, and somehow it went back to Natural?
Same problem here...
I've noticed that same issue on my 3xl. Looks really bad, both wallpaper and YouTube blocky and compressed.
I have faced the same issue on my pixel 3xl recently. Have contacted the google support. They don't seem to acknowledge that it's an issue that's been occurring frequently. Instead they tell me it's just for my phone. Can anyone bring it to notice of the concerned authorities. I wish this is an issue which has been since pixel 2xl. And they refuse to cover it since the phone is out of warranty
What did you provide them as evidence? Ive sent a few YouTube screenshots and my wallpaper on home screen as it has bad banding at the top. All darks are horribly blocky no matter what quality I have YouTube at
I have sent them pictures of night sky i have taken and other such pictures in instagram where the contrast is very much evident. I have given my phone to the repair service and they said its a case of display mura. But i cant imagine such issues in a phone within an year and half of purchase.
4 days ago, after 2 years using pixel 3 xl I have the same issue. My screen is washed out. I don't have black any more. It is unacceptable buy a phone that costed more then U$ 700 and after 2 years I have to replace it because of screen issue. My battery is perfect, my phone never dropped and everything is working except the screen. I will give up to buy Google's phones. The only one I never had problem was nexus 5, all rhe others nexus 6p, pixel xl and now pixel 3 xl I had basic problems that if I have bought a Samsung or other famous brand will never have it. It is really a shame!
I am having this issue too ! Crazy Google Pixel. No point of buying after discontinuing google photo unlimited storage. Another disappointing issue after buzzing sound for front camera.
Left: Pixel 3 XL, blocky night sky.
RIght: Pixel 2 XL, everything looks normal.
Hi. This is also happening to me.
I'm on a P3 XL.
I believe that detailing what you were doing when you noticed the change may help discover how this is happening.
For starters, this happened to me some time ago and it suddenly fixed itself. Granted, I had the washed screen for months probably and I can't recall how it solved itself, or maybe I solved it by doing something accidentally.
Anyway, this happened again today and now I'm back with the washed screen.
I was watching a YouTube video in full screen with the volume very high, phone was hooked to charger. After a while I quit the application and realized that my screen's colours were messed up again.
It's as if there's a white matte all over the screen affecting the overall accuracy of the colors. the screen's colours get worse the less brightness there is. And when playing videos, especially on YouTube, the darkest areas appear blocky as if the video used a very low compression rate. This blockiness effect is dissipated if I manually increase the screen brigthness, but this is not a practical solution because the colors are still wrong.
My device is rooted with Magisk.
Latest Android security update June 2021.
I use YouTube Vance in root mode, instead of vanilla YouTube.
I am facing the same issue on my pixel 3 XL. Does anyone know hoe to fix this. I have two Pixel 3 XL. The one showing this color distortion has a bit brighter or I can say more white screw than the other. One is working fine till now. I updated to S beta 5 and this happened both are running same version of software and same settings.
Hi thr, new to pixel lineup. Got mine in a very cheap rate in marketplace like 200 usd. But now i can see the same issue. Also my top speaker is distorted in music playback like its broken or something. And most annoyingly a portion of the left side screen has low sensitivity where it misses the touches and scrolls. Which is very disturbing for typing experience. Please dont tell me to reset, coz i did it during the purchase. I am in the middle of a project and i dont have money for a new device, please help.
