Hey guys,
I'm thinking of buying a HTC One because I'm sick of the SG4's bluetooth compatibility issues, specifically with slightly older BT devices.
Does the HTC One exhibit the same bluetooth problems (dropped connections, inconsistent pairing, music skipping/stuttering)?
Has anyone here moved from a SG4 to a HTC 1?
The HTC One has outstanding Bluetooth. Never drops or stutters.
But, why don't you buy the M8 since the M7 is over a year old?

Ahh, that's easy. I have to buy off-contract to retain my unlimited data plan.
The m7's used value is about the same as my used SG4, so I shouldn't lose much Plan on using Swappa.

Well, just bought an m7 on swappa.
I assume I just transfer my sim card and activate the m7 on Verizon's webpage?

You don't even need to do that. Just pop in the SIM and it should be good to go.

Never had an issue with Bluetooth on Sense 5.5, 6 and CM11. Use it all the time for my car stereo, transferring apks between devices, and using a MBW-200.
My only complaint with the one is battery life. I get around 10-16 hours of heavy to moderate use.

Bluetooth issues on my GS4 was a big reason for me switching. Note only did I not have issues, but my phone would intelligently flip back and forth from car BT to headphones without missing a beat. Ya know, like how it SHOULD work.

I'm assuming you do not have any BT issues with the HTC One right?
No Issues Here
Ran stock Verizon HTC One for 6 months with no issues. Rooted and ran CM11 and now NuSense6 4.6 with no issues.
Works great with Jawbone ERA and Beats Bill every day.

I just bought a Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus and people are complaining that they cannot here me because it sounds like my audio is skipping. I had a Jawbone Icon before that and took it back for the same reason. I thought it was the earpiece. Now I've been using my original Jawbone and people hear me just fine. I'm starting to believe this issue is with earpieces that connect to phone and media audio like most of the newer ones do, my old jawbone only supports phone audio and works perfectly. I was outside one day and noticed skipping when I was walking and playing music through my Plantronics. I'm wondering if I should do a warranty exchange? I have hardware version 003 Evo, anyone else experiencing this. Oh yeah, they sent this to me refurbished after my original 002 Evo had the screen lifting problem.

Yeah I'm pretty sure. It didn't even have that new look. The front edges that are shiny look like they have been polished over or something. Like it had some scratches before. I've had it for about 4 months now and would like to keep it. I'm just having this one bluetooth issue. I really don't want to have to root and flash my rom again but I can't use any of the new bluetooth headsets out and my old one is uncomfortable to me now.

Any Updates on this? I got the JayBird Bluetooth Freedom JF3's and they skip a TON in the gym. I thought it was the headset, so I replaced it with a different set.
It still skips.
Any updates are welcome, before I start a new thread.

Unfortunately for me, I found out it was a bluetooth problem with my Evo 4g. Since upgrading to the Evo 3D with the same headsets I have zero skipping. Both while talking and listening to music. I surfed around about this and a lot of people were having various bluetooth issues with the Evo 4g. They've upgraded the 3D to bluetooth v3.0. No problems now.

Thank you so much for the reply. I was worried that it was an overall HTC problem, but your update about the Evo 3d not having the same issue suggests that it is an Evo 4g issue.
The M7 is supposed to get Sense 6. The only things I see that the M8 has is the depth camera and better battery and microsd card. Is there anything else? Thanks.

Short answer there is about as much reason to switch from the M7 to m8 as their is to switch from the S4 to S5..which is not much
-4.7in screen vs 5in screen, nice size upgrade, but the bottom buttons moved into the screen.
-Speakers are better on the M8, but they aren't bad on the M7
Reason's you may consider the upgrade:
-32GB storage is not enough, you can expand the memory up to 160GB Total on the M8
-Gun Metal Gray looks sick, I love the fit and finish of the M8, it does look better
I had the M7, got the Lumia Icon, which I am now upset I sold, because I really like the Windows interface and screen
- Was deciding between the M8 and the S5, and I am sorry, but Samsung just looks plain cheap, even though I know it's a great phone.
Lets see... A better processor, SD card, bigger screen, bigger battery.... I definitely think it's an upgrade. Personally I would sell off the M7 and pay the difference for the M8, the price difference is definitely worth the upgrade.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
In my opinion, the processor bump doesn't mean anything since I don't play games and the M7 is plenty fast. I don't use up much memory (don't watch videos or have lots of pictures) so the microsd card doesn't mean anything to me. Bigger screen is nice, but 4.7 is good enough for me. The only thing that looks really good to me is the battery life increase. I heard the speakers are better/louder, but then again, I don't watch movies on it and listen to music only on headphones.
Hard decision.

How can this possibly be a hard decision? You've basically said that every feature that could be considered worthy to upgrade for you aren't interested in. Just keep your phone, honestly. You've already answered your own question and you don't need people on the internet to help push you to an impulse buy.
Agreed. Thanks.

Yeah dude ...just keep your device and why troll the M8 boards? If you don't have the means to upgrade then don't. I like to have the latest and greatest cause I could.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Battery life alone was enough for me to upgrade. I can easily go all day even with heavy use. The M7 I had to charge twice a day, with the same usage my M8 last all day. Something about the M8 that makes it so efficient. It's night and day difference, with that said all the other little aspect of the phone has been slightly upgraded and if the whole package is not enough for you to upgrade then I don't know what will.

Seeing how I have both here at home I can say it's a beautiful step up from the m7. I actually bought the m8 and passed my note 3 to my lady which was using the m7. I always liked the m7 but lack of ad card support was what made me go back to Samsung, but after what they pulled with Knox I am done with them.

Seems to me that your decision isn't so hard then
I think the battery (particularly if you are a heavy user) and camera are enough of an upgrade to justify getting the M8. What makes the decision difficult is that the HTC one m7 is just a great phone making it too short a time to upgrade.
Personally I'm awaiting Xperia z2 before moving on from my HTC one.
The M7 is already such a great phone. I prefer the M7 over M8 as far as UI is concerned. I do struggle often with not having the SD slot as I often transfer apps/Tasker things between my phones a lot. I have to use OTG or bluetooth.

I made the switch and I love the M8, the build quality, new fit and finish, bigger screen, louder speakers, micro sd slot, dual camera, way better batterylife make it all worth it to me. I got mine off craigslist too (sealed and unopened for $560) beats $625 + tax from T-Mobile.

I dont have a EIP. I bought my last phone outright too (but from T-Mobile)
The phone was unopened and sealed and they told me that their sister (the one selling the phone) works at T-Mobile and was selling it and my guess is (from talking to my friend that works at T-Mobile) is they got it for cheap from HTC and turned around and sold it (HTC has promotions with T-Mobile employees (they do this every year) I am not worried.

Curious, by buying it second hand do you still have access to the HTC advantage insurance? Also any problems with warranty if something were to go wrong with it?
Those were the two issues that made me hesitant to pick up an M8 on craigslist, there were a few for sale a couple days even before they were released and I was actually pretty tempted to bite, but also the thought of EIP/stolen/lost blacklisted IMEI numbers scared me off.
my wife and son had m7's and I had one maxx on Sprint, but we switched to Tmo in February due to Sprints horrific network..
Now, they have G2's, and love them, and I have a LG Flex, that I dont like that much for a variety of reasons(zero development, no sd card, android 4.2), on my 3rd replacement right now, and would love to grab an M8, but have 3 more months to wait for my first Jump..
This phone looks like a home run, and I am blown away by how much development there is already for it!
Seems like it is a major upgrade from the M7 in alot of ways!!
Why would you get the Flex knowing 1st hand it was on an old software version and no micro SD card. I personally love the Flex minis the blue tooth issues with Netflix being a hair behind. Only reason of thinking on this phone.

So I'm experiencing buyer's remorse with the M8. I'm thinking I should return my M8 and grab the Nexus 5. I've done all the research and the read all the things and understand that the M8 is better in many (almost all) ways than the Nexus. But it just doesn't feel right. I'm not going to go into the reason why I got the M8 initially.
My subjective M8 negatives:
It is rather long for my hand
The rom support is severely lacking
The camera is sub-par for the cost
I hate OEM GUI's
I really hate loathe abhor the power button on top
With T-mobile, it's much easier to pay off a $350 phone and upgrade than a $650 phone
Am I being too picky? Am I not happy with the features that come with the extra $300 that the M8 costs? Am I being too whiney and ridiculous?
Sounds like you already made up your mind. I will tell you my buddy had the Nexus 5 and loved it for all the reasons you want it. He just recently learned one downside of it, signal strength. He went away and someone with a t-mobile s5 had LTE while he was limited to couple bars of 3G. So now he's electing to use his JUMP for a more carrier friendly m8 or G3. So there are tradeoffs, that's one of them. There are others depending on what matters to you.
Also, GPE conversion of m8 effectively makes the phone a Nexus phone. In the long run do what makes you happy.

Like the post above shows, there is a respectable amount of dev for the m8. Just like there was for the m7. Thing is, sense 6.0 is so close to stock now that I haven't even rooted. I like the social network linking in contacts and smart features like the turn over to mute calls, etc. I think comparing dev to nexus is bad comparison because nexus phones are very much developer phones to begin with. You're comparing a high end phone to a high end budget phone. The Nexus 5 is a great phone but it's got trade offs. Let's put it this way, the Nexus 5 is the phone I'd own if the m8 didn't exist.

Yesterday I converted my m8 to the GPe. It is quite nice -- it is a huge boon to staying with the M8. It is amazing what 8mm of height does to a phone.
Stay or go, no one really cares. Great phone, but to each his own.
Like everyone has been saying, if you need convincing then you've already left and that's your choice and right to do so. Here's my couple of experiences.
My brother bought an N5, used it for less than 24 hours and resold it. he didn't like the screen, the signal strength no SD card slot, weak speakers and vibrate function was too weak. Mind you this is the same kid that when I sat down with him about his SG3 he was complaining the the 2 capacities button's LED brightness weren't equal so I take everything he says with a grain of salt.
I think the N5 is a fantastic phone but like has been said, it's a budget phone so you have to expect budget parts.
Now I switched from Sammy phones for a multitude of reasons, one of which being the quality of the device. My sammy's had a multitude of problems and the build quality on the HTCs has always amazed me.
I'm not going to bother addressing anything software, because there are roms here to do everything you want (I used liquid on my previous phone, twas nice). But for length, that's the price you pay for amazing sound. The power button on top, I'm not sure your gripe, if you mean it's harder to access it to turn the phone on, use the tilt and swipe or the doubletap to wake it up. Lastly the camera, using my 4K monitor comparing pictures from my brother's N5, my old GS4 and the M8 I have to say it's on par with the S4 if not better and honestly the N5's pictures usually turn out with a slight blur though that could be fixed with a different camera app I assume.
here's an article comparing the phones, it's a good read and ultimately helped me decide I wanted the M8:
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-one-m8-versus-nexus-5
Like another person said, the N5 would be my choice if the M8 didn't exist.
No point in going back to the Nexus 5. It is due for a price drop soon anyways. I would say that mid August is that time. The Moto X+1 would beat the Nexus 5 too. The Nexus 5 has a decent looking screen, but it's not as the same as the Super LCD 3 w/ Gorilla Glass 3. It also has a weaker battery and camera. The Nexus 6 comes out in about 2 months too. GPE is the best option if you want to sell your HTC One M8 and buy another one or just convert it to save the time and extra $.
There are some rumors going on that HTC will is making the Nexus 6. LG has said they're not making it.

Exactly, the Nexus 6 will be better by the nature of the market. If LG makes it, the Nexus 6 will have a strong build because the G3 has a nice build quality, but the LG software is ugly imo.

I actually moved on from the M8 to the G3. I am loving the g3 so far.
I have a 2 1/2 year old M7 that has the dreaded purple camera problems and a battery that is no longer good for a day of light use.
At this point is a M8 for around $280 a good buy or should I consider something else? I will not buy an Apple product and having the best cell phone camera is not a high priority. Clear calls and connections are the main concerns.
Thoughts and alternatives please.

Yeah, I just saw the leaked photos and renders, and was really disappointed to see that the front speakers seem to be gone. This is a big step backwards for smartphones in general IMO. Having speakers on the side (or worse, the back) is just horrible design; and HTC putting the speakers on the front where they belong was one of the main reasons I got the M8.
Still haven't decided whether I'll pick up the M10 or not, but the lack of front speakers will certainly be a factor.
Not sure if the M10 is a feasible option for the OP or not (everyone has different budget and other constraints). But if that is a possibility, I'd at least wait until the M10 is released and there are some reviews of it; before decided whether its a worthy upgrade or not.

Exchange it if you are within the period or RMA it. At most you will be without a phone for a week while they ship you a new one.
