I have update B506 firmware via local update. Now, I want to install TWRP recovery.
Can anyone explain how to install TWRP recovery on B506 firmware. I have read so many threads for the installation of TWRP recovery on P6 but neither worked on my P6. I will be much obliged for step-wise procedure.
Regards.

Thanks dear
I have followed the steps and successful in installing the TWRP recovery.
One thing more, If I want to downgrade from B506 to B111, what procedure should I follow as I am feeling problems in some Chinese apps that are annoying?

Chinese apps are no issue. Just root yr device, and uninstall all system apps with Titanium backup root (download in appstore)

I am unable to uninstall these system files with the message "Failed to locate the apk file"?
What should I do?
Use root explorer and navigate to /system/priv-app and from them manually delete them

Does the app uninstall with that method ?
And what is the logic behind having an apk file saved in the system folder ? Because mere saving it does not install the app. So i was wondering why the apk is retained after install.

It does go away if you delete the .apk file from that folder, only downside is that you'll have a left over in your data folder but it will not any harm other than taking a few bytes of your disk space, but it will not re run or cause any other issue to the phone.
If you save an app on any system folder it will automatically be installed at next boot, Android does this with the system folder. Even if you didn't installed the app in the user space it will generate a "system data folder" for that without the need of "installing it". Also remember that most System apps are give the system UID which pretty much enables them to run at boot etc... So if you don't delete the app from the system folder it will come back at every boot.

hi guys, just switched to cm7.1, its a good rom, i was wondering if its possible to add your own apps into the rom and then flashing it? what i mean is to add your own essential apps into the rom and then to zip it so it uses up more rom space and leaves more internal space. if there is a method, can some one please give some idea on it. thanks
Of course it is. Just copy the app's apk from /data/app in the /system/app folder of the zip file.
Thanks but can you explain abit more in detail please, like if i put the apks in that folder, will the apps automaically be installed? and as for the rom zip file, will that need to be zipped up back in a special way? also will the apk's need to be signed with a special program? a small accurate guid would be sweet. thanks
There are two ways, either manually open the zip (no need to extract it) then just drag and drop your apk files to the System/app folder or data/app folder then close the window. Sometimes it doesnt work it depends I think on how the files was compiled or something.
Or use ROM manager. Look it up in the forums.
Edit: Its Rom Editor if my memory recalls it correctly.

No, just open the zip and stick the apk's in that directory. Then when you go to flash just disable signature verification..
I'm not sure as to how this will go about saving space though.. it's the same as installing apps AFAIK

In a way it does save space. I remove some apps that I don't need from the CM zip like ROM Manager, live wall paper etc and then add my apk files on system instead of it being saved in data folder.
Sthankyou, can i manually move apps in the data folder into the system with root explorer? i am s-off.

with root explorer yes, but I don't think they'll actually be installed just by putting them there..

Yes you can manually install apks to the system/app using root explorer. But you have to modify the permission of the apk file upon transferring. It is best that you first copy the apk from the data/app folder to sd. Then uninstall the app. Then use root explorer to transfer the app from sd to system/app. Update the permission then reboot.
Take note that not all apps will work with this method. Some apps just needed to be on the data/app folder based on my experience.

It appears Sprint has begun rolling out L710TVPU0AOH1 which includes a patch for stagefright.

Has anyone seen this update?
Please post a link if anyone sees it.
I received the update this morning but I have not looked at the size. I did not expect Sprint to put out a patch for this old device. I expect to have to unroot the device and then re-root the device after installation. It will be a weekend project for me.
OH1 Update Zip
Can you post the Update.zip file?
Don't have the file but the update said it was 58.1 MB.
A couple of people on the Sprint community reported that it bricked their phones but it worked OK for me.

I'd love it if you wouldn't mind capturing the update.zip file and then posting it for us before you install it.
If you do get this update anyone before you install it. Please copy it from your cache file and post it here thanks.
I have the update.zip copied off to my external SD card and PC but because I'm a noob, I'm not allowed to post external links on here. Sorry.

That would be great! Thanks. I tried to pull it but I could not find it in the /cache folder. I think ROOT made it disappear.

It's in there. If you have root all you need is ES File Explorer and grant it Superuser permission. Open the options and tick Root Explorer and Show Hidden Files.

Sorry, I lost the ota update. I had some time and attempted the fix but it failed. I did restore to stock recovery. In my haste, I didn't make bkup of file. So I was waiting for it to re-download. I am not really concerned about the security exploit. I am glad someone else was able to provide the update file.

My phone downloaded the update, but when I press "Restart & install", it doesn't do anything. Is it because it is rooted? I also couldn't find the update in the cache folder, even though I gave it superuser access and have it set to show hidden files.
Is it possible to manually install the update without wiping the phone?

I would recommend flashing a stock recovery and then sideloading the ota.

You will need to have your computer set up for adb. The proper drivers and Android sdk etc. Power off the gs3 and then reboot to recovery by pressing power the bottom button and volume up at the same time. It will take a moment and then select the option to update via adb. At that point you should be able to connect to the computer via USB and from the command prompt type adb devices and have it list the serial number of your phone and say sideload next to it. I believe that the command is adb sideload filename in this case update.zip. update. Zip needs to be located in the same folder as the prompt you are working from. I am typing this from my phone, so I apologize for the formatting. You may have success by placing update. Zip in the root of an external sd card and select update from ext sd in the recovery prompts.

Does anyone know if this update will reset everything? I'm wondering if I'm going to lose my user data, apps, root, twrp....
Also, I think I know the answer to this, but just to be sure....
I believe the process that I have to follow to use the OTA update is to unroot the device (uninstall supersu?), then just run the update.zip from recovery. My guess is that I can use a custom recovery to install, but I'm not sure. I'm also assuming that it will not remove the user data and apps. After the update is finished, I would have to root the phone again, then set up all of my xposed framework options again.
Sound about right?

My device is rooted with magisk.
Thank You.

You can try with TWRP recovery. I deleted system apps from there, so maybe there's possibility to push apps there. Just go to Mount > then check System > go back > Advanced > File Manager > and try to put apk's to folder you want.
I'm rooted with latest Magisk but it's not possible to delete system apps by using root explorer, even when mounted R/W.
Is there a trick or do i have to use TWRP?

Only trick I know is to download Titanium Backup for Android and give it Magisk root approval.
Use it to delete apps.
Take note: I have destroyed several 100% stock Oreo setups by removing system apps. Have not narrowed it
down to which apps caused that. But be ready for it to never reboot followed by flashing the entire system again.
Hm, I don't understand why it's not possible to delete system apps or folders (in fact apk kan be deletetd, but folder not),
You can delete them in TWRP, but be careful on which apps you delete because as already mentioned in this thread, you can be stuck with an unbootable system.
I'm planning on creating a custom flashable zip for myself that removes certain apps, changes the font, and boot animation in one go; just to streamline the process after I factory reset & update every month.
I can delete the APK by using ROOT EXPLORER, but I'm not able to delete the folder of the app.
Strange, on all other devices that was never a problem
Just freeze what you dont want. What did you want to get rid of anyways?
