[Q] Trying to overclock SGH-T889 (need help) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have been able to root my Note 2 but I haven't had any luck with overclocking. I use ODIN to flash "root66_TMO_T889UVUCMK7_2.tar" to root the phone and then I use ROM toolbox to flash TWRP and then I reboot into recovery and have installed the following ROM's "Jedi MasterX2", "Jedi Master 18", "Jedi-X20", "Hyper-Speed", "Avatar ROM for Notes II", and when I use Trickster MOD it never shows any speeds above the stock 1600 Mhz. I used to be able to use the same process (different Roms of course) with my Samsung Galaxy S but I can't seem to overclock this note II. I'm sure I'm missing something, hopefully someone out there can help. Thanks in advance for the help.

You'll need a kernel that supports overclocking for a start. Agni or Devil are two.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

So I had tried flashing "Saberkernel" and "PlasmaKernel" in recovery but then my phone starts to boot up and shows the Samsung Galaxy Note II boot screen and then it appears to shut off and I can only get it in download or recovery mode and I have to reflash it with ODIN again. I will give the two that you mentioned a try and see what kind of luck I have. Thanks for the help!:good:

So I have found Agni Kernel but it appears to be for i9305. I can't seem to find one for the SGH-T889. Using the wrong one will mess my phone up wont it?

So I was able to install Devil using CM recovery and now if I boot into recovery I see that it installed properly because I now have the option for a dual boot setup. However when I go to open Trickster Mod the highest setting I have for my CPU is still 1600 MHz. Is there some setting I have to change? I also have another question. I have purchased both Trickster Mod and ROM toolbox pro, which one would be better for control over my CPU profiles?

you picked the wrong devil kernel. get the one that says devil2. actually it sounds like you flashed devil recovery instead of the kernel

agni kernel is a really good choice for 4.3 and for asop
ill put up a link to both kernels so you cal flash. all credits go to them
touchwiz 4.3 ONLY : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602053

Thank you everyone for the help!
@ mattlowry - Yep, you were right! I flashed the wrong one. I flashed Devil2 and got it to finally work. Only thing is I only raised it to 1704 MHz and I started to have some issues. I received a text and my phone locked up. I had to pull the battery and it worked fine for a few hours and then I went to check the time on my phone and it had shut off.
@ce321 - Thank you for the links. I will give Agni a try and hopefully it will be a little more stable.

[Q] Kernels and GPS on Stock Rom issues

I've tried various kernels on the stock ROM of my HTC Wildfire S and something i noticed was that the some kernels make it so the GPS has trouble locking. Is there any kernels that are around that are stable, fast and doesn't affect the GPS???
I've tried the stock kernel (which works, but the only way for this to work properly is to set the CPU at 480MHz-600MHz at ondemand governor and deadline I/O Scheduler, which eats the battery)
I've also tried
The Dust 9 kernel... which is good but the GPS didnt seem to lock... i'll retest this soon to make sure
The cake-gb-3.0-v1.4-htc-lycan kernel... which is pretty much the same as Dust
The DCPLX 1.2 kernel... which the GPS works fine, but the phone restarts itself sometimes, bricks it self voluntarily on the rare occasion, sometimes the screen doesnt turn on when the power button is pressed)
Never Mind
Actually never mind this post... Cake Kernel works fine... Now I'm trying to figure out how to delete this thread:laugh:

[Q] Help with Roms, Kernels for Galaxy Tab 3 8.0

Hey guys, complete newbie to the Android scene. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 SM-T310, and I have it rooted. I installed the Kernel(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455058) and Rom(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471642) that Arshull made but don't really see any specific changes. My OS looks the same and I don't see any changes.
When I go to About Device I see that the Kernel version is "3.0.31GalaTab3_8.0_Kernel_v13.10.14-3-gd541fc6-dirty [email protected] #9 Mon Oct 14 23:04:24 EDT 2013"
When I go to About Device I see that the Build number is "GalaTab3_MH2-4.2.2_v13.10.4"
I rebooted into TWRP, did a backup, deleted delvik cache and cache, installed the zips that I downloaded for the OS and Kernel. Do I need other apps or am I doing something wrong?

What exactly did you expect to see? The Rom you installed is a minimally changed stock-based Rom, so it will look the same.

I expected to see changes, but it makes sense if it is based off the stock rom. However, I thought the Kernel was going to allow me to set power/performance settings?
You need to install a cpu control app.

Hi... I wanted to thank you very much for the work you and ketut.kumajaya put in on the blackhawk kernel 1.8. It is very much appreciated.
I take it that the 1.8 kernel allows frequency scaling... correct?
Is there any specific CPU control app you would recommend? I'm using the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.
Does installing the 'disable Powerdeamon constraint' zip (thatnk you for that as well) allow changes made with a CPU controller to stick?
I guess I am trying to locate the governers and wonder if I'll have access to them via the CPU control app?
Sorry for the noob questions. I hope this is a better place to ask rather than in the development threads.
Thanks again

Trickster Mod cpu control app seems to work well. It will allow you to choose which governor you want to run and adjust min/max frequencies.
The settings will not stick unless you use the powerdaemon.disable mod.

Thanks again. Trickster mod shows me all of the governors. Now to just decipher the parameters they use to control the CPU. In the past I've just used trial and error... But this is off topic... I just appreciate the advice

The kernel for device (sm-t311) can be found on this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522091). Be sure to choose the kernel for your device (i.e. sm-t311 or sm-t31x). This is not a stock kernel but is better than the stock version.

[Q]S4 Mini LTE After Root Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Not Working

Hi Guys, I thought I would make a thread here as i can not seem to be able to find a solution. Rooted my device obviously, everything is fine until I installed a "Kernel" (cant remember author) to overclock mainly then encountered several problems. 1: Wi-Fi has become unstable. It seems to either crash my phone or signal disappears after my phone is on standby for a period of time (variable). 2: My Bluetooth just does not work. At all!! I have not done anything more to my device so the solution (hopefully). I forgot to mention that it is STOCK ROM. I do not wish to wipe my phone clean, i want to find a fix. Possibly a more stable kernel. Overclocking does not want to happen either but the "Governor's, I/O Scheduler's and Underclocking" do work. If there is anything more you guys need to know please ask!!
Looking forward to ideas

It not the root that causing the issue, it the kernel that tried. If I remember correctly there's only two kernel for the S4 mini that allows overclcoking, and one of them has stopped developerment since last year. That leaves the F4k kernel.
He has two different kernels: one for the AOSP/CM (custom) ROM another is also a bit outdated for the default Samsung TouchWiz ROM. Are you sure you've download the correct kernel?

Well to my knowledge I had used the correct kernel....... I never used one from here but I did find a website claiming that F4k has a stock over clocking kernel...... Unfortunately for the life of me I can not find this website. I've managed to overclock with success using a apk. I found on here (performance control) brilliant tool!! Is there any chance you able to post a link to this stock kernel you talk about so I can test myself and report back? Everything else is working without a problem apart from Wi-Fi and bluetooth.

So I've come to a conclusion after many weeks of testing and searching........ Unfortunately the overclock kernel for "TouchWiz" roms is unstable........ looking through forums I can see that F4k has only realised a "test" version....... on the other hand I have found a kernel from Vikinger (if spelt correctly) that's has fixed my issue and is working great... shame it isn't overclocked nor under and has no additional governors..... any one with ideas please feel free to share..... many thanks.

Hello There!
I currently have a T-mobile Note 3 Phone working with Metro PCS (Yes I switched the carrier) and everything seems to be working fine so far.
My phone is currently rooted and I also sucessfully flashed W03 SlimKat 27.1 so far I love this ROM.
My current kernel version is: 3.4.0 W03 Slim Kernel Tuesday Oct 7 2014.
Do you think I need this kernel update?: CAF-W03-Slim hlte v1.0i (10/10/2014)
If so, can you please tell me how to succesfully flash this kernel update? Do I need to wipe/clean the current kernel before installing this update?

You just flash it like a ROM, no need to wipe anything, just flash. You'll get to a menu asking for options, if in doubt, stay with the default and just hit next.
If you want to get back your current (stock ROM) kernel, just reflash the ROM without wiping anything and you're back.
It's always a good idea to make a nandroid backup, you never know

Hello There!
Just in case I wiped the cache and delvik cache before flashing your custom kernel.
I followed the menu options and I only flashed the kernel (your custom kernel) since I thought if I flash something else I will have to re do the settings and install my phone apps again.
If I want to go back to the default ROM's Kernel, just flash the W03 ROM and that's all? without wiping or deleting anything? How about my phone settings and apps? Will they still be there?

Yep.
But if you just flash my kernel (first menu choice) you're mostly on stock and don't profit from any of the benefits.
Reflash and go through the menus, just hit "Next" till you're through.
To get back, just reflash the ROM without wiping.
Your settings won't get lost.
But as I said, you should make a backup, it's always the safest thing to do.

First of all, thank you for your quick tech support.
I did reflash your custom kernel and this time many windows options appeared and I just hit next until the end.
Everything seems to be working fine but can you please in a user friendly language tell me 3 o 5 simple facts of the benefits of flashing your kernel?
Also what is Wipe Cache and Delvik cache? I read somewhere else that it is a good idea to do this in order to install a new kernel .

Well you do use :
- different governor (handles CPU frequency)
- different hotplug driver (faux's intelliplug, that's handling CPU on-/offlining)
- touchwake (allows to wake the device by touching the screen when it times out)
- fastcharge (allows charging faster on USB chargers)
- etc. etc.
Might be worth having a read here and then here (Changelogs).
Dalvik cache wiping for kernels is useless, it won't hurt, but you'll lost time as you'll have to wait for it to be rebuilt on boot ("Android is updating your apps..."), cache partition can be usefull in my kernel's case, as it will help Aroma with an issue that sometimes settings don't get generated, so that you can do, won't cost much time. But in general for all kernels not using Aroma (menu system you saw while flashing), there's no need.
JP.
Hello, I would love to test Google's new Inbox on this GEM of a Rom. Anyone have an invite ?

I'm currently running v27. Is it safe to dirty flash to 28? Do I need to flash to 27.1 first?
Also I've noticed that video playback freezes occasionally when I seek repeatedly. Is this a common issue? Does it get fixed in the new release?
My smart cover only activates while closed and power button is pressed and not through calls. Is there an option to enable smart phone covers or has it not been implemented?
Safest way to update from V27.1 with Yank555 custom kernel to V28?
I have a similar question:
I am currently running V27.1 with Yank555 custom kernel but I would like to try out this V28 ROM update but I don't want to download and install my apps and settings all over again since they are a lot.
I am also using Nova Launcher and it looks like Nova Launcher was remove from V28.
Does any body know what will be the safest way to update from V27.1 (with Yank555 Kernel) to V28 (with the Stock kernel)?
Has development stopped on this rom? Not getting any news updates. Thanks in advance.

I wanted to know if the protected apps feature is still in this ROM somewhere. If so, I can't seem to find it. Or, was it stripped out?
Hi everyone
I've been reading alot about this ROM and I really want to give it a shot
problem is ,, I have CWM recovery installed ,, can I use it to flash or TWRP is a must?
go easy on me, I'm a noob in all sense of the word
edit: boy.. looks like the last question to be answered was 6 months ago!!
Hi guys. I'm pretty new at this whole flashing thing and I've been working on a Note 3 (N900T) my uncle wasn't using anymore. I have been working on this for a few days now and this is the first thread I've come across that has a lot of success. I'd appreciate the help. I've tried to install the ROM from this thread but I got "e: failed to verify whole-file signature" when trying to install. Here's what I've done so far.
Wiped cache/user data.
run the ROM from the SD card (fat32) then that's when i get the error message.
Thanks in advance for the help.

International ROMs work on S6Edge

Unsure if I needed to do the following, but flashed an in Call audio flash fix for the 920T (Non Edge) .
Just tested In Call audio and it works. FINALLY, since we all here are twiddling our thumbs waiting for the 5.1.1 official non leaked version roll out, it's SO NICE to now try International ROMs for our S6Edge TMobile variant PS,,,,I do like the boot animation as well as Inverted colors and Battery Mods on this ROM. Just my own opinion and will be trying out many International versions when I get a chance :good:

Yes: In fact in pulled up my location in my home in a blink of the eye. Never seen it lock that fast. GPS Test app.....13Ft accuracy. states 3D fix 16 satellites in view and in use.
EDIT: Pulled up one more app just to make sure. Google Maps was first reference, BTW.
Can you share the steps you took to flash the Rom, kernel and patch? Can you use the patch with another kernel or does it have to be with the simple kernel ? Also how s the battery with your setup ?? And finally do you have the edge features with the rom your using ???

Some stuff I can answer. Some it's not been long enough. I flashed the ROM, because I INCORRECTLY misread the thread about a kernel that fixed in Call audio but this did NOT flash on the Edge.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-stockmod-kernel-t3100395/page16#post61081515
So, do NOT use the above reference. I flashed that kernel and it would NOT update my KT kernel 5/28 date that others stated had GPS issues. Reading that thread there was a GPS patch for that KT Kernel and I was using that and the in call audio patch I had referenced in my first post. NOT trying to confuse anyone. Just giving background that after installing the ROM and using the patch and that kernel, I had no incall audio. BUT, I also noticed that the kernel wasn't installing, even though it was saying successfully installed. I checked in settings/about device and KT was still on board.
OK...enough Background. I found the current simple kernel for our edge I referenced and that worked along with the audio patch.
YES, edge features work. ONLY that Simple kernel I referenced works. I tried the 5/28 KT and the 5/18 KT kernels. NO in call audio. Deep sleep functions perfectly for me too, so I assume the battery times will be comparable to KT's. It's been 4 hours since I installed. I was at 92% at that time. I show 75% remaining as i post here and I have been listening to milk music last hour. Testing GPS for the other user. Some messaging and Browsing.
Order to install:
I factory reset after first setting up TWRP backup. The CarHD ROM offered an option to backup your EFS in Aroma installer. I picked that along with Factory wipe option. During the Install it asked for CSC region of choice. There was an option for United States with initials LRA. So I chose that.
After installing the ROM, I had KT on board, so I basically let the ROM boot up and I setup everything with KT running....but that's when I found out patching didn't help in call audio. So I basically recommend after your setup, go back to recovery and install the kernel. Then the audio patch file. THEN, delete Both cache files and reboot. You should get the Android upgrading all your user apps at this point and you should be good to go.
I'm sure you could probably flash the kernel and patch file, PRIOR to even first setting up, but I didn't do that so I can't tell you that will work. Can't hurt to try that.
INITIAL boot up before getting the Start Screen was a good ten minutes. It's NOT bootlooping. Just give it time. Get a cup of coffee and smile at the boot animation while waiting. It's definitely nice
EDIT 2:
I am copy pasting my original post so that the files are in one place here again:

Unsure if I needed to do the following, but flashed an in Call audio flash fix for the 920T (Non Edge) .
Just tested In Call audio and it works. FINALLY, since we all here are twiddling our thumbs waiting for the 5.1.1 official non leaked version roll out, it's SO NICE to now try International ROMs for our S6Edge TMobile variant PS,,,,I do like the boot animation as well as Inverted colors and Battery Mods on this ROM. Just my own opinion and will be trying out many International versions when I get a chance

so let me get this right
u flashed CarHD International ROM on a tmobile galaxy s6 edge, and used this kernel "simple kernel r4t" and all is good, gps, calls out ans calls in, data, and wifi all works?? oh and I alos have to flash the "Patch file for in call audio "...just making sure I under stand all this, so im going to be flashing these 3 files and should be good to go???
Very interesting. Can anyone confirm. This would be HUGE!!
just as he said in his op, do not flash all 3 at once, it will work if u follow his directions to the t....
Flashing now. I am with Canadian Rogers so I chose the CSC to be RWC (since it was the only one with the "R", i think there are like 4 options that say Canada). Lets see and will report.
awesome, got it to work on my Canadian Rogers. A couple of weird things happened but so far so good!!!

I have been using my Phone all day. Audio works. Wifi works. Data works. GPS works. As another user stated, I did NOT flash all at same time. Read my post. It should work. And I am on TMobile using a TMobile S6Edge 128Gb.
BTW, I think I was the first to report using an Omega International ROM on the S5 with TMobile. So getting this to work is like a Deja Vu thing for me

I knew it would work. Not sure the CSC thing is really that critical. I know on my S5 I was using UK CSC codes on the early International F roms. I will try flashing all the stuff at same time before booting up, on next install try, but I have to say I like this ROM a lot so far. Just discovered the gradient settings for the status bar. Swipe to the right from Home screen to get the OTA updates, themes, 3Min Battery stuff, etc for this ROM. Some of the inverted colors make a few apps hard to see menu choices correctly. Had that issue with Alliance a few times depending on theme choices and all the color options. Just an FYI.
please also test the battery life too!!!

Phone is being charged up. I have a day of tasks to do. Dr. appt. Shopping with wife for household stuff. Talking to my daughter serving in USN back east in VA. (First granddaughter on the way approx Septemeber time)
IOW planning on using the phone
great post and great instructions man!:good::good:
I would assume any of the international roms would work using this method; I am tempted to try the Echoe rom, as I always liked that one on my Note 4..
did you see that Ktoonz posted a unified kernel yesterday? I wonder if that would work too, since that simple kernel supposedly leaves all sorts of Synapse stuff on your phone, even if you uninstall it..

I decided to try the carhd rom first, since its confirmed working.
I am just finished setting up the apps, and waiting for the "Android is upgrading" to make sure calls and stuff work..
Did you guys set up Viper on here yet?
I'll try Echoe in a day or 2, after checking out carhd for a bit...If you try Echoe before then, please let us know as well if this same procedure worked well on it; it should, but you never know!
