i have a simple question ...
when we are on Custom rom (CM for example ) , how can i restore "cleanly" a stock rom (rooted + CWM + own datas) that we have done a full backup of this one previously ,before flashing a custom rom ??? ( as if nothing had happened !... to find rooted/cwm stock rom with all datas and parameters ...as before)

Try downloading and flashing the specific sock FW from samsung-updates. Then flash it with Odin.
Actually the KIES software has a repair feature that does it for you. It worked for me, but I am not sure if it would work for anyone else.
thank fo answer
but i just want to know the good way for to restore a backup of a stock rom that i have made with ClockWorkMod previously ...how can i restore it properly ?
with CM installed ,a simply wipe cache + data ...and then "restore" the stock rom is good ?
or we have to reflash the stock rom via Odin ,and then reflash serranoltexx CWM ...and then "restore" the previous backup (made before flashing custom rom ) ...it's looong !
...no answer ? :crying:

I just got my first android phone a few days ago and was reading the forums since then
My defy come with android 2.1 (build 2.34.1) . I want to upgrade to 2.2 but also be able to downgrade to stock one just in case i need to get it back to warranty or update to official 2.2.
From what I've read and understood, first thing to do is to to make a nandroid backup. I installed z4root and got my phone rooted.
If I'm not mistaken, next step is to install DEFY ClockworkMod Recovery - 2.5.1.8 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944543 and then do a nandroid backup.
Then, what 2.2 rom can I install to be able to downgrade to my backup rom ?
Thank you

Every custom ROM on this forum has the option todowngrande IF YOU FLASH THE FIXED SBFs. Don't flash a full SBF or you will lose your warranty (like me). The steps are (usually):
1) got o recovery wipe data/factory reset
2) restore a nandroid backup suplied by the custom ROM;
3) flash the fixed SBF;
4) Boot the ROM
BUT, read the whole topic about the ROM that you want to prevent mistakes. I Suggest you try Jboogie3 LiquidArc/BluelessGinger or Pays 5.1, then, when you are more confortable with the ROM system and apps that you like, try Barebones.
How about going back to my stock rom? It is enought to do:
1) recovery wipe
2) restore my nandroid backup
3) flash 2.34.1 sbf ?
my system is Moto_Version.2.34.1.MB525.Retail.en.SEA and the 2.34.1 sbf i find is from a Moto_Version.2.34.1.MB525.Retail.en.CEE , should this be a problem ?

All of these ROM are highly recommended. I would add the xd1 ROM, which is a great ROM.

No, it's not a problem, these values will be get from your nandroid backup.
I installed cm10 did not like it so i restored to my stock rom which i had a back up of in CWM. Stock samsung restored fine but i try to go into CWM and it is not there anymore and goes into stock recovery mod. Did CWM get deleted and do I have to reinstall CWM ?
Thanks !
Stock ROM = stock recovery...wonder if u lost ROOT as well?
if so Root and re-install CWM or TWRP.
I have my stock ROM backed up also, been thinking of going back to ICS for a bit and trying to find a rooted,de-bloated stock Rogers ROM in flashable ZIP format so I dont have to do the whole process again lol....no luck yet

Hi there
I just installed venom on my one x successfully and now I'm looking at kernels
Mainly the Bricked kernel
I'd just like to ask if I flash this kernel, and want to restore my phone with my original sense backup (the first nandroid backup I took), do I have to flash another kernel before I can restore the back up or does the Kernel only affect the rom currently installed?
I'm extremely sorry for the unclear language, I'm not exactly sure how to put it
Thanks,
Yadash
When you restore the backup , you have to flash the boot.img (kernel) from that particular backup. It's located in the backup folder

Thanks man!
So basically if I install another rom now, and want to restore the backup I made of Viper
I find the boot.img of Viper and flash it and then restore the rom?
Also when I factory wipe to install the next rom does it clear the kernel too?
Let's make it simple, if you flash a rom you also always flash the kernel from that rom !
The same for a backup.
If you flash some other kernel to a different rom , it won't boot !
If you completely wipe your phone the kernel will stay. The kernel will only be overwritten by flashing a different kernel.
Thanks again
I completely understand now, and thank you so much for the help!
No problem.
Sorry one last one
If I install the bricked kernal and want to go back to the original one that viper came with
Do I just run the boot.img that came with Viper?
No, let's say you flash the bricked kernel
Flash the boot.img with fastboot commands and then enter the recovery and flash the modules from the bricked kernel.
If you want to go back and flash the boot.img that came with viper x you will get a bootloop because the modules do not match.
Or you flash the boot.img from viper and reflash the rom without a full wipe
Or you can use the venom flasher to install different kernels of your choice. The custom (stock viper) is also included in that tool
Oh awsome sir, thanks so much again!!
I'm still a Huge Noob at this sort of stuff
No problem
I might be asking too many questions here, but these all are actually banging my head as off now and just want to double sure the impact -
History -
Used to have stock rom (4.1.x)
Rooted and Flashed to CM 10.1 (4.2.2) [Have a nandroid backup of my rooted stock rom]
Now I want to go back to the rooted stock - Questions
#1 - Is it possible to go back to 4.1 from 4.2.x ?
#2 - Can the nandroid backup be used to do the flashing (means wipe CM and use the backup to restore to earlier state). if yes, pls give me the procedure to do that.
# If #2 not possible, what are my options ?

If you are using cm 10.1 means,, your base rom is 4.1
Flash with your sock rom 4.1 and make a backup
Flash wiith cm 10.1 and make a backup
You can restore both backups with your requirments but remember full wipe data and davik cache
Secondly You can't restore stock roms backups of 4.1 on 4.2 OR 4.2 on:good: 4.1( it gives us a bootloap)

Get any stock 4.1.2 rom from sammobile.com then flash using odin. Then flash CWM. After that you will be able to restore your nandroid backup.
You cannot restore your nandroid 4.1.2 backup if you are on 4.2.2
