[Question/Help] Un-rooted sprint tab 3 7.0... - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all it's been awhile since I visited the xda forums so I apologize if this is the wrong place for this post in advance. So anyway I bought a samsung galaxy tab 3 7.0 from sprint about three months ago and decided to root it and installed titanium backup pro so I could freeze a lot of the bloatware that came pre-installed. I've been hearing/reading about kitkat update coming to the tab 3 7.0 on Sprint so I decided to un-root today so I could do an ota update when it is finally available. Everything went fine but I did notice that all the bloatware I froze are still frozen (turned off) and pretty much every other change I made still remained the same but I am able to check for updates and even had a samsung firmware available. Before when it was still rooted is just said that my device was modified and there was no firmware because of this. So is this normal or what? I mean not that I mind because the reason I rooted the tab was for that sole purpose and not for custom roms. And if I did want to turn or unfreeze these apps how would I go about doing now? I'm just curious in case I need to take it back to sprint for warranty issues. Thank you for your time.

You can try enabling them in settings, apps.
If not, you may need to reroot and use titanium backup.
Or if you want to be sure everything is stock....just Odin back to stock.

You odin'd back to stock and those apps were still frozen?
If so, its cause you didn't wipe first. System and data. As well as caches. Then go into download mode and flash stock with Odin.

Ahhh yes yes that explains a lot now lol like it's been a while since my last root and flash. Thanks now I know how to unfreeze them if need be. But like I said I don't mind it now cause I pretty much got the best of both worlds because those bloatware apps are still frozen (or so it appears to be) and I can perform updates yay

What do I need to know about rooting an Epic 4G?

Work just picked up a bunch of Epic 4G's. Battery life is horrible. I want to calibrate my battery so I'm wondering what the best root method for these phones is.
I currently have Gingerbread 2.3.5 on this phone.
I've also got a Epic 4G Touch, that had one click root, looks like these don't?

There is no one-click solution for Gingerbread. You would have to Odin EC05 for that. Here is how to root Gingerbread stock phones:

Is there a un-brick method is something goes wrong?

If you mean sponge or soft-brick then yes in the Stickies at the top of Development. It requires using Odin or Heimdall and your current data will be lost.

There is a more "pain in the ass" process of rooting your phone if your already on gingerbread. I will link you to some videos that should get you going.
You WILL need ODIN to get rooted. There are ways to root your phone without it, but ODIN makes things alot more simple. ODIN will become your best friend, trust me.
First, you will need to follow this step...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRzzIqouE
Once you have done that, you will need to move onto this step...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWOLEXqAeCc
Of course, use the latest version of ACS Recovery, which can be found on the link to that video.
Once you have completed those steps, you will be rooted, running ACS Recovery Version 5, or ClockworkMOD Recovery 5.0.2.7
Hope this was helpful.
If you run into trouble like it gets stuck at the Samsung screen for more than 5 minutes, you can return to Froyo stock and OTA back to stock Gingerbread and try again. Here is the thread for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
You can also PM me with questions once you get started.
I just flashed my first ROM (CleanGB) on to my Epic4G and reset the battery statistics. Along with using TB to freeze the DRM and SNS apps, I'm seeing great battery life. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site!
Its not hard hahaha that's what I'd tell you anyways its really simple if you can get Odin to com its all downhill from there. Just thought I'd give you some encouragement since you've already been given directions. Never be afraid to root the epic is nearly impossible to brick.

Oh big one don't use the stock USB cable if you have one use a blackberry one learned that the hard way.....

My stock cable works fine. Grab Odin as it is an all purpose life saver. Are you planning on rooting and using custom roms or just using root apps?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
The stock cable worked fine for me when I rooted my Epic, too. I used the Rooting EI22 Gingerbread Instructions from Android Central, and fortunately it went very smoothly. It was my first time rooting my phone, so I was glad I didn't have any major problems. As noted above, you'll probably want to substitute one of the newer custom recoveries in place of the one in those instructions though. I thought I'd offer these text instructions (with screen shots) as an alternative to the videos posted above.
Regarding use of ROMs or just root apps, I actually rooted mainly to get the GPS and silent camera fixes. I'm probably going to want to use a custom ROM though, but am still currently on stock rooted EI22 (with those two fixes applied). I'm slightly concerned about getting all my apps and data back if I install a new ROM. I've got backup apps (Titanium Backup, non-pay right now, and MyBackup Root), as well as a nandroid backup from what I've read advanced restore of just data is possible, but don't really know what's the easiest/smoothest way to get things back. I might want to go with the MostlyStock ROM, since it probably changes the least amount of stuff, or something with a non-wiping version (I've seen at least one, but forget which it was offhand). Tips on how to make moving between ROMs while keeping apps and data easy to restore would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your stock cable will.appear to be ok, but once you turn your back, it will brick your epic. Trust me. Been there done that.

The hardest part, for me anyway, is picking a ROM to stick with. Right now I'm addicted to trying out as many things as I can. Right now I'm running ThunderHawk but I'm sure that will change soon. I will tell you I haven't have a lot of luck with ROM management tools. ACS updater doesn't seem to have anything new, installs from ROM toolbox don't seem to work, ROM manager has worked the best for me so far.
Get a BB cable trust us when we say your stock one will go south on you at the most critical time! I use my stock for charging only. I have read many of stories on here where the issue was the cable. If you don't have a BB cable laying around check amazon out $1.97 plus shipping. I picked up 4 a few months back I keep 2 at home one in work and one in my laptop bag.

Lost root somehow, any ideas how?

I turned my s3 off for about a month while I used my note2. When I turned it off it was rooted with twr recovery and running a custom Rom. When I turned it back on the Rom was still running however I did loose all the widgets I was using. Over night titanium tried to run the scheduled backup redo. Then in the morning I noticed titanium said it could not gain root access. I tried other apps that require root and none will gain access. The super user app is still there but says there is no root. It's simple enough to re-root but I'm really curious as to what happened. Any ideas?

Please Specify Rom and Android Version.
In short, if your TWRP recovery is intact try a factory reset from there.
Thanks Persius, I haven't tried to go into recovery since I have to do it manually cause I'm not sure what will happen if it's not there. My computer is broke right now so I'm limited. It's been since the s3 first came out that I installed the Rom so I'm not really sure which one I'm on but it says JZO 54, and it's 4.1.2 Thanks again for your help

Say... Are you sure we talking about an SIII or an S-II ?? That sounds like the 4.1.2 Stock of an S II. What does it say under Settings > About Phone > Model Number ?
Turn off completely then Hit Volumn Up + Home +Power all at the same time. Wait for 3 minutes or so with all 3 pressed. You will see Recovery come on. Let go of all 3 buttons and then do a Factory Reset in the recovery.
Thanks again, under build that's what it says, jzo 54, I think it might be Liquid Smooth. And it is an s3. I will try to go into recovery if you don't think anything will happen if that's not there either. Something else weird I just thought of is I also had some strange kiddie like themes and apps I never put there. It's like someone else used my phone but that's not possible as I saw it every day and live alone. Strange. Any way, thanks again

Yes its safe to Go into Recovery. Go ahead and do a Factory Reset. Let me know how that goes.
Ok, did the factory reset and went ahead and did the ota update to 4.0 I'm going to root again. Do you have any suggestions on a good Rom? Also what is the best way to root these days and best recovery? Thanks Perseus I appreciate your help and advice

I am confused. Wasn't (or shouldn't it be ) your S3 already on the JB 4.1 ? What did you mean by OTA update to 4.0 ? Are you referring to the OTA Update to 4.3 ?
I can not comment on Rooting unless I know which os version you have.
Sorry, was a misprint. Yes, went to 4.3
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So if you still have TWRP then flash Superuser from Recovery. Lookup its thread here on XDA.
However, with the Knox being present and SELinux in Enforcing state, your chances of Rooting are slim.
Please don't brick your device.

[Q] t210R Problems after root..help

After rooting my tablet today using the prerooted.tar.md5 worked succesfully. however it changed my model to t210, i lost use of my IR blaster, been bogging down, sometimes coming unresponsive i did a hard reset on it thinking maybe i had too many apps as well as the 3d next launcher and instead of picking and choosing just did that. So is there a firmware out to get my IR blaster working and model back to the t210R. is there a different md5 file for rooting which has better luck and what is everyone's take on using SuperSu's unroot method. i would also like to still be able to get samsung updates as well.
Thank You much in advance,

You hve 2 ways to become your ir module working
1. Flash Stockrom with Odin
Or
2. Take a look to the rocket tab lite thread at the dev section.

You will have to flash the stock firmware again and re-root. Good luck.
You could download a stock firmware and copy the sketchbook apk to /system and change the permissions it may work and you dont have to reflash the rom.

Just purchased Tab S 10.5... Hyped

What's up fellas. Just picked up a 10.5 tab S (should be delivered tomorrow)
Had a few questions..
I am definitely going to root as I need my titanium backup among others.. Is xposed working on this device?
Mainly for YouTube ad block.
I will be using this as a movie watching device Mainly. Are there any stock based roms that are recommended? I don't want to lose features like multi window by flashing CM.
Also.. I would think a holo or aosp rom theme would be clutch on this device bc of the battery saving factors of an amoled screen, is there anything recommended?
Lastly, any battery saving tips? I usually watch my movies & shows with airplane mode on my Nexus 7, 10 and iPad. Seems to really make a huge difference..
Thanks and I look forward to helping out in this community.
Xposed does work on this device. Stock rooted should be fine for ya, you just need to remove some bloat to remove lag. To save battery, turn adaptative display off and set it to cimema because your watching movies and it would waste battery trying to adjust the tone all the time. Also turn off auto brightness and set it to one that is bright for you. And finally greenify is a good app to hibernate apps after you open them and will stay hibernative until you open it. I got a couple more but cant remeber them right now. Anyway hope you enjoy your tab s! You will see me around the q and a fourms and general fourms most times if you need anything. What version of the tab s did you get? Ex wifi, lte, etc

Thanks for the tips. I have a note 3 so I'm Sorta familiar with the touchwiz bs. I saw a thread on which apps are "safe" to freeze with titanium backup.
Usually someone makes a stock based rom with all the bloat removed but I haven't really seen one yet unless I'm missing it.
I purchased the Tab S 10.5 as I was upgrading my Nexus 7. I was not happy with the Nexus 9. It was built like garbage and had bad battery life and screen bleed. Very disappointed in HTC.
I also purchased the official S book cover which should look absolutely gorgeous.
Is the Chainfire CF auto root the way to go?
Again... Thanks.

Is it the wifi version? Sm-t800? There is a thread on safe apps to delete but someone said it bricked their tablet doing so. Just know what your deleting and it should be fine. There is one debloated rom but the developer has been really busy so he cant fix some bugs. If you have the supported version for cf auto root, then thats the way to root. Before rooting though, please wait till you root as it will viod your warrenty. Wait like a couple weeks incase you have a deffective device. Reports of bad battery happened on this tablet becuase of a loose battery connector. You should get about 8hours screen on time, so if you dont get that much battery life then it might be deffective. Anyway if everything is good root with cfautoroot. I cant wait till we get Andriod L though! And enjoy your tab s.!

For me I dont use quick boot. But i have a custom reboot menu and it should be the same. Rebooting into recovery works with an app but rebooting into download mode with the app doesnt work. You have to do it with the vol down, home, power buttons at the same time when your turning your tab s on. And yeah custom recoveries are easy to install now. As long you have root, it just replaces a recovery file and done.

Thank you sir. Looking forward to it. Does this tablet suffer from the non reading sdcard bc of Kitkat? I read that there is an app fix for it? I'm currently looking for a good SanDisk card deal. I bought the 32gb version so a 32gb card should suffice
if your gonna but a tab s 10.5 soon see this. While its a semi loop hole and ymmv, I was the buyer and they had no problem reducing the price on a brand new tab
