I'm new and I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place or re-posting an old question, but I have been searching on this and other sites for days and haven't been able to find anything pertaining to my question, so sorry in advance If I'm not posting this correctly.
I have a rooted epic touch with rogue boot loader installed and UnNamed rom installed. I really liked the way it was running until I had some kind of malfunction happened and now the battery charge light won't shut off and the battery drains within a couple hours of standby time. the phone is only a couple months old and would like to take it to the sprint store as I'm assuming this is an obvious hardware issue. My problem is that my pc doesn't recognize my phone anymore so I can't flash back to stock and get rid of root, voiding my warranty. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling kies and stand alone drivers multiple times with no avail. I've tried with the battery and sd card removed and have also tried on multiple pc's (2 win7 and and xp machine). every time it says the drivers weren't installed successfully and to replace the device being connected.
My question: Is there a way to revert to stock off of the internal memory of the phone? I know there are zip roms you can flash from the boot loader but I was wondering if there was a way to flash a rom from zip and install the original boot loader as well as get rid of root? Any help I can get would be extremely appreciated and again I apologize if I am wasting anyone's time by asking in the wrong place or re-asking a question.
Ok so I downloaded the Calkin's_Stock_Rooted_EK02_ROM_v1.0 and got it on my sd card via dropbox. Flashed and now have a stock rom on it which I think is a step in the right direction.
The only thing is now I have clockwork boot loader and still rooted. and still not recognizing on pc. anyone know of an unrooted zip with original boot loader?
I couldn't get my PC to recognize either of my 2 E4GT's, each due to a different reason, both issues were resolved by going through each step in sfhub's debugging checklist:

This post is for the FAQ section:
Why is the install stuck waiting for device to be connected?
Your phone isn't being recognized by your PC as an Android device.
When the drivers are installed and the phone is properly recognized, you should see the following in start->run->devmgmt.msc
Code:
Android Phone
SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface
Modem
SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem
Until you get the SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface to show up, neither ADB nor this script will work.
Here is a debugging checklist:
1) dial ##UPST# (##8778#) in the dialer and verify AP (or ALL) is checked (if CP is checked, phone won't be recognized as an Android device)
2) restart the ADB server (choose Option G to stop the server, it'll get started automatically by the script)
3) verify USB Debugging is ENABLED
4) verify USB drivers are installed (Win7-64bit see below)
5) try a different usb cable
If you are in Win7-64bit try changing the default install location for the drivers:
If you see an error like this:
Try running the CMD prompt (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) as Administrator. Right-click on the CMD icon (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) and select "Run As", then select Administrator.
If that doesn't work, try disabling windows firewall.

I went down that list and everything seemed to be in order but still no recognition by pc. I kept uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and switching usb ports and it finally installed the drivers successfully long enough for odin to recognize it and to flash back to stock. As soon as it was done the machine stopped recognizing it again. Lucky break I guess. So I can now return it to sprint and deal with the hardware issue.
I would still like to find a zip file like the tar that I flashed that installs stock recovery and non rooted ek02 rom and kernel from cwm, if that's even possible.
Thanks Godswrath, for helping me out.
You could use wifi explorer to get files on to sd card and mobile Odin to flash the tar file back to stock....

Lol....I am a noob.
They make a mobile Odin? That would have saved my like 4 hours....
Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this
My brother tried to do the update of his nexus through the phone download (not through the sd card or connecting to a computer). Since this it will not start up and if i go to download mode it says that it is downloading constantly (have left for hours).
I can make it to the clockworkmod recovery v6.0.1.0 but unfortunately my brother didnt make a backup before trying to update to 4.2 jellybean.
The unfortunate part of this equation is that i cant access the phone via usb as the drivers wont install and the phone doesnt have an sd card slot except the sim card slot. So placing the correct files on the phone is proving too hard for me to complete.
Sorry if this situation has been covered before but i have searched for about 1.5 hours now to no avail. I would very much appreciate if someone can take me through how to get this phone working in any way possible (i dont care if he loses all data and goes back to stock).

CWM recovery offers the ADB interface. I would:
1. get the naked driver package (see Efrant's guide)
2. boot device into recovery and connect usb cable
3. open windows device manager, find your device and manually update the driver
4. use adb to backup the /sdcard to your computer
5. flash 4.2 stock images using fastboot
6. done

op, if you just want to get the device to working state again, and dont care about any data:
1. get the naked driver package (see Efrant's guide)
2. boot device into bootloader and connect usb cable
3. open windows device manager, find your device and manually update the driver
5. flash 4.2 stock images using fastboot
step 3 is the same, the same procedure, the same driver; windows is dumb so you have to tell it again when device is in bootloader (which, btw, is NOT the same as download mode).
Hi and thank you for the replies.
I have downloaded the naked driver but cant get it to work. I have followed the steps to make it work but i get to the device manager and there is no option for uninstalling current driver (as it has none currently). It only has update driver software (which if i use windows to search for it cant find any) and properties. The Galaxy Nexus icon in the device manager has the yellow exclamation mark sign on it. I can
When i try to manually find the naked driver it comes up with the following error
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Google Galaxy Nexus ADB Interface
Access Denied.
Where to from here lads, i appreciate the input

if you're using windows 7, i read something about you need to disable windows digital driver signature check, or something in those lines.
can't help any further on that subject, since i'm a Linux user (Windows knowledge is very limited) and also that is an operating system's issue and would be better discussed in a Windows forum, IMO.

Thank you for another helpful reply! Yes i am using windows 7 - i will try to perform the task now - results soon. In the meantime if anyone else knows instructions on how to do this i would love to hear
I am at work and dont have administrator settings on windows 7 so i went to an older computer and started fastboot.exe. I went to recover and there was the IP address of the computer went to that and recovered. From there i went to reboot and now i am just getting a Google in the middle of the phone (as before). I will wait some time to see if it will start up now. If not what is my plan?
So i havent got any closer to having a usable phone.
Im up to this step:
"flash 4.2 stock images using fastboot" how do i do this? i have fastboot and i have the stock image

[HOW-TO] [GSM & CDMA] Return to stock for ALL Galaxy Nexus phones (latest JOP40C)
Thanks for that i had since found that and have printed it and will work through each step methodically. I have the stock image on download.
I have spent the best part of my working day on it now. Fingers crossed it all works out.
Thanks to all who have helped me through this far
So here's the story:
1) Phone worked flawlessly before root. Did an OTA to stock 4.1.1
2) Flashed CWM with Odin v1.85 --> removed battery --> worked without issues
3) Applied SuperSU v0.87 and this didn't go without issue. While in CWM before the reboot, there was some extra prompt (I have rooted a S3 before and did not receive the prompt) however I cycled too fast and I don't think I hit the right option. The phone rebooted anyway and I had root so I didn't think anything of it.
4) Wanted to add files to my SDcard a couple of days later and the phone didn't show up in My Computer (yes USB debugging is enabled, tried all USB ports, changed cables, uninstalled and reinstalled Samsung drivers, I've never used Kies to do anything with my phone - disabled it from the start)
I thought I should revert to stock and start over so I booted into recovery and CWM wasn't there anymore but I still had SU access. I installed Mobile Odin and placed CWM (the .tar file) on my internal (Placed on SDcard --> moved with My files to internal) and flashed CWM and while I didn't see any errors, now I'm data wiped/factory reset but I still can't boot into CWM, I still have SU, and my phone is still not recognized by my computer.
Anyway for me to fix this issue?

Sorry OP but I does anyone know a way to connect to a PC without install the samsung drivers? I'm asking because I don't have permission to install anything to my computer at work. I've tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
and this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...9pZC5tdWx0aW1vdW50c2RjYXJkLndpZGdldC5mcmVlIl0.
but still no go. They all treated my SD Card as CD drive which can read only. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply and I apologize if I wasn't clear but I was attempting to use Mobile Odin (my first time) because my phone was not being recognized by my PC and thus desktop Odin wasn't working either (even after reinstalling drivers and booting in download mode which I tried before posting).
However, I did find the answer eventually. If people have problems losing CWM after root, the error I made was not extracting the image file from the .tar before flashing with Mobile Odin. I eventually returned to stock but that didn't solve my PC not recognizing my device until I found this:
1. Uninstall any previous instance of Kies/USB driver
2. Download the latest Kies, specific to your S3.
3. Download Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 (I've tried newer versions but they all failed)
4. REBOOT
5. Disconnect from internet (VERY IMPORTANT!!! - forcing Windows to install local drivers ONLY)
6. With the phone disconnected, install Kies + USB drivers downloaded in steps 2,3
7. Connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
8. Reestablish the internet connection.

I didn't bother with Kies and obviously used the latest Samsung USB drivers. Problem solved!
Perfect.
Sorry if I sounded a little short. I am glad you found the solution.

Probably best if you ask in your devices forum if you think it had to do with how you rooted. They'll be more familiar with it and any problems that can occur.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7582
The only thing I can say is to uninstall kies, install standalone USB drivers (try both the latest and the older version released for your device on Samsung's site), reboot pc and phone and try to connect again.
Good luck!

Hi, So I have the sg3 T999V with Wind and I updated to jelly bean via kies today.
So I did lose root and cmw
but I used the root66 way of rooting it after the upgrade and it worked.
However, after the upgrade I encounter the MTP device not working problem.
I first unchecked usb debugging mode and it worked for a brief moment but then proceeded to not being recognized by my computer again
I have windows 7 32bit
So this is what I tried:
1) regedit described on this forum - did not work, and there was no upperfilters under EEC5AD98-8080-425f-922A-DABF3DE3F69A
2) reinstall kies, driver under my computer-manager, and kies troubleshooting - always returned with MTP not installed correctly
3) factory reset one where I signed into google account right away when prompt and another left it till later, the instance where i signed in later worked until i restored system-app data with titanium backup
4) Tried all the ports on my laptop- non of which worked
5) made sure I used the usb cable that came with the phone
So I am out of ideas and having tried most of the methods suggested on the forum I don't have a next step
the reset worked well till I backed up with titanium so perhaps it is a system setting that is preventing the mtp?
Please help I use my sg3 as a music player for my long commutes and losing the MTP function would be major. :crying:

I have this issue on and off with my S3. It tells me my Device ID is missing. What I do is the following:
1. Download the S3 Toolkit software http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682 and extract
2. Go to the directory you put the toolkit in and look for the drivers folder. There are two (maybe 3) files there. The USB drivers, and an application. Right click on the application, and run as administrator.
3. Make sure phone is NOT plugged in
4. Look for all Samsung related files. You may have USB component, USB modem, CAC Driver, MTP Driver, ADB driver, And a T999 Driver. highlight and click the recycle bin next to teh X on the menu bar.
5. Plug phone in, and let it recognize the components again.
6. After it is complete, it may work, or you may have to plug it in one more time for it to recognize T999 or MTP again.
7. If it doesn't work, start again, sometimes it takes a few times.
I do notice that with the Universal Naked drivers I don't have any issues, but then I can't connect to Kies. Also curious to see if your Device ID is also missing, this is the first column in the application you are running. Mine are, which I think is part of the problem, but not sure why they vanished, or how to get them back.
I don't have a solution for your windoze problem
but if I understand correctly, you need to transfer files from pc to phone
you have wifi?
both pc and phone using same wifi?
on pc.. open sharing to LAN
get ES File Explorer (or similar) from the play store
in ES, switch from Local to LAN shares
tap New.. then Scan ... your pc should show
tap it and hold, edit login parameters as necessary
tada ... now you can move files from pc to sdcard or ext sd card, no prob .. Local to LAN or vice versa
tip: I opened the 5GHz band on My dual band router and have My SGS3 connect on that band ... this achieves speeds up to 150Mbps between pc and phone instead of usual max of 65Mbps on 2.4GHz band
another file transfer method ... Dropbox
drop files on pc into Dropbox, pick them up in the Dropbox app.. or vice versa
however this will use your internet .. and whatever your monthly limit is ... twice!
once to transfer from pc/phone to Dropbox server... second time back from Dropbox server to phone/pc
the first method using wifi LAN doesn't use your internet, not limit, at all
Well Hello everyone! i'm new to the site, but always being following a few post, so i'll give as much details as possible so you know what is happening let's get to it then.
PS: I have already rooted a device my ARC S and it was in the first try, i say this just to you guys know i have an idea of how easy the process should be.
I have an Acro S LT26W
6.2.b.1.96
Flashtool (downloaded from the youtube link below) version 9.11 for windows
The unknow sources are ON, and all the options i need for the phone to work with the rooting process
I use windows XP
i'm trying to root the device, i installed the flashtool and its drivers, the sony programs, both of them, the sony companion found the phone, the update service program, well when i do the turn off the phone and doing the flash mode steps, the computer freezes and the phone is never found...
I made the steps here www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSsZ7pAJcew the ones of checking the drivers, the flash tool found the phone on debugging mode (the phone is on)(when i did this it installed abd or something like that driver) but, when i finally load the kernel 211 and prepare the phone to flash mode (turn off the phone, press the volumen down botton, hold and connect the usb) the computer says the semc driver is not properlly installed then i have to reset the computer because it freezes just like the update service.... what might be happening in here? i installed the ACRO S for ICS driver, the fastboot and the flashtool driver (the last two options in the flashtool drivers pack) but the problem is still there...
i have the kernel of this site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2418991 and i follow the steps of this site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417672 (pretty sad i even get to 3rd step)
Question... (yes another one)
When i connected the phone to the pc to check if the flashtool driver was properlly instaled (debugging mode on) the icon of "root device" appeared, is there something we can do with it? i mean, maybe another way to root the phone? i spent the last 6 hours reading and trying but nothing worked and it's so easy to root a device if you have the proper tools.. i hope you can help me, its driving me crazy omg...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well i have good news and i want to ask you guys to check for this "way to root" because it was pretty stupid because of the easy it is.... ok
Now after i couldn't root the phone the way it is posted here, i was looking at you-tube and found a Spanish video about rooting the device, so i decided to give it a try, and wtf, it worked...
Now the steps are these... the video said that IT'LL WORK FOR ANY XPERIA JELLY BEAM DEVICES
(for installing the ROOT program, turn off your anti virus)
1- Go here www.mgyun.com/vroot download the Chinese rooting program and install it. NO NEED TO KNOW CHINESE FOR THIS.
2- Plug the USB cable to your pc
3- Prepare the phone, debugging mode ON
4- Open the rooting program and plug your phone to the pc with the USB cable
5- Wait until the program do its work and don't touch your phone.
6- Once your phone is done, it'll be automatically restarted and it be rooted
7- check the root with "root checker" or other you like
8- Done.
If you want to delete the Chinese root program in your phone follow the next steps.
1- Download SUPER SU program in your phone
2- Grant SUPER SU program root permissions and update the binary plus select NORMAL mode
3- SUPER SU program will find that there's another root program and it'll ask you witch program do you want to use, select SUPER SU and the chinese program will be deleted.
THAT'S ALL....
PD: Ok, now all that was in spanish i just translate it the best i could, this is the video link if someone wants to see it www.youtube.com/watch?v=raIR4ms6xds&list=PLmMm_rKgxjOpQ58IHzbbp1wgCVoSde692&index=2 again, would like to ask for someone to check this and share the way to root the phones if it is 100% safe and no tricks under the table.

I think this is the only way to root acro s in .96 firmware. Rooting is actually very easy if you are familiar with it and it will take around 10minutes to get it done Since you are using .96 firmware, here are the actual steps for rooting your acro s (yes, i have simplified making it more easier to read)
1. install sony pc companion(for the your device drivers of course), fastboot and flash mode drivers
2. flash the .200 or .211 kernel (because the doomlord toolkit only support rooting on acro s with .200 and .211 kernel, the latest .96 did not included, so we need to downgrade the kernel for rooting)
3. root the device using the toolkit
4.flash back the .96 kernel
5.done
Before start, you will need to prepare these things
1. usb cable
2. rooting toolkit(credits to DooMLoRD) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327473 (download the latest v17)
3. .211 kernel and .96 kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2418991
4. flashtool
If you done preparing all the files, lets get it started (with detail steps)
1. install sony pc companion http://www.sonymobile.com/my/tools/pc-companion/
2. After installing, plug in your phone, drivers should automatically install after that
3. Install the fastboot and flash mode drivers from the flashtool folder
4. After done all these steps, your device should be properly detected by your computer
The next part is flashing kernel(make sure sony pc companion is not running in background as it may interfere the flashing process)
1. extract both the kernel just now you downloaded to the firmware folder in flashtool
2. run the flashtool
3. click the thunder icon and choose flash mode
4. choose .211 kernel from the list and click flash (ignore the selections beside the list)
5. wait for awhile and a window should pop out to tell you plug in your device
6. now power off your phone, plug in your phone while pressing volume down button, release the button when green led appears
7. your device now will connect in flash mod and start flashing kernel
8. once it is done, it should tell you to reboot your device
9. now your device should running .211 kernel
Now you can root your device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327473 steps are provided in the thread:laugh:
After rooting, you will see supersu or superuser in your apps drawer
Now you have successfully rooting, now what you do is revert the kernel back to .96, steps are same as above and make sure to choose .96 kernel in flashtool
Hope this will help you in your problem
