What's up everybody? I am a future GS4 owner but have always used internal memory in phones. There is no info on the 32GB model, so I'm thinking of buying the 16GB and adding an SD card. I plan to keep apps and music in the internal memory and photos and video in the SD card. Since I have no experience with an SD card in a phone, my question is will the phone be completely normal with the media files in the card? Will my gallery act any different on the phone?
OK... I lost hope in any sandisk 32gb sdcard.... Just lost hope.
Something like 4 months ago, I got a brand new sandisk 32gb sdcard to use with my note2
Filled It over 16gb... BAM!!!....a dead SD card
Got it replaced with another one "also sandisk 32" and i tried filling it to test it, had 11 GB free "19gb used" and downloaded an APK file, when I was opening it, it said "file not supported" or something like that.
So I went to my files wondering why an apk isnt associated by downloads app, and I open it finding no extSdcard anymore.
Storage in settings says insert SD card, tried it in an s2 and it said empty SD card.
So please guys give me a solution. Cuz my whole life is in it. Thanks guys.
Got samsung 32gb card after similar fiasco with SanDisk.... no problems with the Sammy card
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
I was on my second Sandisk 32gb for 1 week when it also gave up the Ghost.
Ended up getting a full refund and putting that towards a Samsung 64gb.
Sammy is full to the brim of MP3's and has not missed a beat.
I think Note 2 Owners should give Sandisk Cards a Miss.
I have use a Samsung 8Gb SD Card with swap and 2nd partion for 1 year and never have a problem. You should try changing the brand, the Note II overheating issue is clearly a problem when using SD Card. The best thing you could do is be careful

Thanks guys for your replys, i really appreciate it.
my device detects it but says "empty sd card" when i format the device just goes to boot animation and starts over (atleast thats in paranoid rom, will try on sammy)
It's just that its got on my nerves, i got a refund from the first card, and i think its really a waste of time to get a second refund and a third card.
16gb (10 usable) is not enough for my use "u could call me a pig when it comes to storage " and this whole sd card thing is really pissing me off.
i use 2 roms "thanks to devil kernel" and its really hard to maintain space considering that u have to install apps on both. and when i put the sd in a card reader and want to format it, it gives me "30mb" as the disk size. i just wish 2 know whats the cause... is it sammy rom?
thanks guys anyways
Perhaps you have some partitions messed up. And the dual rom/kernel thing probably isn't setting up either storage correctly. And I think you're addicted to android. It is affecting other hardware in your life. Lol.

Thanks for ur reply, I'd repartition if I could, but unfortunately I can't access it at all.
And the dual ROM thing is a bit messed up. In aosp ROM it doesn't even detect internal SD. I have to access it through /data/media
And yes.... I'm very addicted to android
SanDisk 64GB microsdxc ..... 4 months so far and no issues.... except want more storage ....

Hello,
Anyone has problem with the microSD card being ejected when writing on it ? I have that when I take a video or multiple photo in line, even when I run a backup with Titanium and the phone is just on a table, without moving it.
I use this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007JTKM30/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use it for months on my macbook with a nifty drive without problem.
I've had this happen myself a few times. Then my SD card got mostly corrupted, but it wasn't new, I had a 64GB Kingston Class 10 SD Card that I've abused and over used for the last few years coming from my Epic Touch 4G (Galaxy S2), Galaxy S3, and now LG G3.
My best advice:
ALWAYS backup your SD card every three months onto a computer and external hard drive, and replace your external hard drive and SD every three years if you're a heavy user (just to be safe).
I installed a newer 32GB Sandisk Class 10 (until I replace my 64GB card some day) and I have not once had it "eject" at all since. So that's probably heads up that your card is failing. Whatever you do, don't format it and keep using it, it's on it's way out from the sounds of it. The thick bars/lines in the photos are a good warning. Buy a new one as soon as you can, for now try to stick to internal storage.
Yeah, it's possible, I will try with a new one. Thank you
Anyone else getting this error? I have a 64M SanDisk that was working just fine in my note 2. I put it in my notes and I continually get this error. I unmounted, removed and power cycled my phone but it comes back any time I try to access the card. Any ideas?
I would backup the contents of it onto your computer and reformat the card. Then try it.
I've been getting this error when my phone wakes after being idle for a long time. I've tried reformatting the card but I'm skeptical that will fix the problem. According to many online threads, this issue has been widespread across a number of devices, and my card (Sandisk 64GB Ultra CL10) works fine in other devices. Will report back.
This is a common problem with the Samsungs...There is a proper process, as follows.
First, go ahead and do a fresh format of the card and get the contents onto the card.
Second, turn the phone completely off AND REMOVE THE BATTERY.
Put the card into the card slot, replace the battery and power the phone back on.
This has been my process since the sII, and haven't had any issues, save a few completely corrupted cards which were unsalvageable. There is an issue where the card receives current from the battery, and in some cases can corrupt the card and in even fewer (but still entirely plausible cases) completely fry the SD.
I'm not sure why Samsung hasn't caught the issue, or even acknowledged it, but this process avoids it entirely.
Hope this helps
Thanks, I tried that but it made no difference.
The uSD card continues to work fine in my other devices, and diagnostic tests reveal no problems with it, so I'm confident the card itself is ok.
I'm trying another card now (this one 32GB), but I'm guessing the problem will occur with that one too.

Sounds a lot like what happened to my last card in my Note 2. I was able to get a replacement under warranty and haven't had a problem with it happening since.
Well, my guess was wrong. The 32GB card I switched to is actually working fine--no recurrences of the unexpected-removal error.
So I guess there's a problem with the 64GB card, even though it was fine until I switched it from the Note 3 to the Note 4 (and I handled the card carefully).
Good thing, though. It's easier to RMA the uSD card than to exchange the Note 4.
was it an SanDisk card? I have problem using my 64gb SanDisk in my s4 and note3. I changed over to a samsung brand and now I dont have any problems.

Yup, SanDisk Ultra 64GB. I had no problems with it in my Note 3, though.
I have a scan disk 64GB card that I took out of my Note 2 (rooted) and put in my Note 4. I started getting random unmounted errors.
Finally last night I pulled out the SD card and threw it in my computer. Sure enough it came up and said I had some corrupted files. I fixed the files. Dumped the SD card to my HD and then formatted the card in my phone. Then I put my music, pics, videos, and a couple of files for apps aback on the disk. So far no more SD card issues.

I picked up a new 64GB card, made by Samsung this time, I put it in last night and formatted it.
I had to reinstall a few apps after that.
I am going to give it a few days and see how it works out.

Flickr gives you a free terabyte of storage that you can auto-sync your phone's photos to. That way you don't have to buy a large SD card, and you don't have to worry as much about losing photos due to disk corruption.
Yeah, I tried formatting my SanDisk several times and kept getting the same issue any time the phone tried to access data or write to it. I put in an old 32M cheapo brand and have had no issue at all
3 days and no errors. Maybe the Note 4 doesn't like SanDisk brand SD cards?

I'm happy to report that the RMA replacement for my Sandisk Ultra 64GB uSD card arrived today (the replacement is a Pixtor rather than an Ultra), and so far it's working flawlessly.
I have been dealing with this error with my Sandisk 64gig also. Didn't have a problem with it on my Note3. I have reformatted to numerous formats. Anyone know of a specific one that works. Always have had trouble out of Sandisks on Samsung galaxy products. Some I don't , but I have had this problem on at least 5 different devices. I have always read that the thing to do is go with Samsung brand SDs. The new 64gig Samsung is apparently faster than any other micro SD. However, since I have paid for this one, I'd like to use it.
Hi!
Today my SD card died and took some pictures with it to the grave, fortunately nothing very important. It may not have been the most expensive card, but it was a fast one and I used it as internal storage. It didn't show any signs of deterioration before it died. I tried to read the card with my PC and two tablets but none of my devices is able to even see the card.
Before buying a new SD card I want to ask a few things:
Does the HTC 10 have more problems with SD cards than other phones in your opinion?
Should I use my new card as internal storage again or do you recommend to use it as external storage?
Is it worthwhile to buy an expensive card? I laid my eyes on this one: SDSQXCG-064G-GN6MA (SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDXC Memory Card Plus SD Adapter up to 100 MB/s, Class 10, U3, V30, A1 - 64 GB). It costs about 50€.
I hope that you want to share your thoughts with me.
Regards,
Benjamin
If the card was inexpensive and fast, I would think that the compromise made was on build quality/reliability. Using the card as internal storage will wear on the sdcard more than using it as external storage (more reads/writes, more heat) because it will store apps and app data on the sd card.
I don't think the HTC 10 has a problem with sd cards, I haven't heard this issue come up before.
If you have enough space for apps on the internal storage, I would recommend keeping the sd card as external storage.
However, if you still need to use a card as internal storage, you definitely want to get a more expensive card.
Sandisk extreme pro is a good choice because it's made for use with devices like GoPros that do constant writing for extended periods of time, meaning that they can handle the heat that builds up when constantly writing to the sd card.
Sometimes it could really just be pure chance, maybe you got a bad card that died early, but I definitely think it would have lasted longer as external storage.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar problem with any phone with an sd card as internal storage.
The thing is - current sd card technology is not suitable for adoptable storage. Multiple read write proceses are killing memory cards. So, until someone makes a card that can take the beating of multiple read write proceses, just use your card as it's ment to be used - as a removable storage and you'll be just fine [emoji6]
Thank you both for your well formulated and competent response.
I've taken all these points into consideration when I chose to use my first SD card as internal storage. I really would like to know if a high quality card could last the expected lifetime of my HTC 10 when using it as internal storage. I wanted to avoid the limitations Google imposed on write access to the external card but when I saw the limitations of the internal storage solution I was unsure if it was a good decision.
It's good to hear that you do not have the experience that the HTC 10 has a problem with SD cards. With that information in mind I can buy an expensive SD card with good conscience.

Let's hope that more users are going to share their opinion with us.
I've just sent back my second SanDisk Extreme PRO card in 18 months. The first one stopped working after just 4 months in the HTC 10, the second one a few weeks ago. The circumstances were identical, I wrote larger amounts of data in a short time and the phone started saying that the card has to be formatted. I could use a reader connected to my laptop to get most of my data back, but the phone insisted on a format. I'm not sure if it was the SanDisk cards or the phone, either way, I ordered a Samsung card this time. Luckily amazon.de is extremely customer friendly and just gave me my money back in both cases.
I always use transcend, I've had a 128gb external SD card in since may 2016, all camera shots goto external card, all flashing and backups goto external card. Never had a problem, touch wood ?
Guys, are any of you using Spotify? I have consistently had microSD cards die after downloading songs for offline use i.e. two phones and three different microSD cards.
I use a Samsung evo card as removable storage since January, never had any problems with it. They are a bit more expensive, but it is worth it in my opinion. I use it mainly for Spotify and Netflix downloads as well as pictures (wallpapers) and ringtones... Don't use a rather inexpensive card as adoptable storage, since they are too slow. Or even expensive cards for that matter In a few years, sd cards will be fast enough, but not today. Also, I fail to see a practical use for using the card as adoptable storage as of right now since 32 gb are plenty of space for apps

I did not know that it is possible to tell the Spotify app to use external storage. Will try when I get my new card.

I'm going to buy a card produced by a reputable company this time, for sure. But I thought that cards with the A1 specification (Application performance class] would be fast enough for use as adopted storage. But you are right, 32 Gb is a lot of space for apps.

Actually, if Spotify recognises your sd card as removable storage, it even is the default setting

I've used Samsung evo and Sandisk Ultra Extreme and the both failed a short time after downloading Spotify songs!
I've had a Transcend 64GB card fail after a few months. It was inserted as external storage and I was able to recover its contents on a PC. I was able to put it back in the phone without formatting it, just tried a few times until eventually it worked.
It happened when it was very hot outside, not sure if this is related or not. I wonder how many failed cards are failing during hot weather, during heavy phone use, or in hot climate areas.
I've switched to a Samsung 128GB evo plus now, u3 speed, so far so good. Fingers crossed. Judging by this thread though, it does seem that this phone kind of eats through SD cards.

This is precisely what I wanted to know in this thread. Before buying my first card for the HTC 10 I read a number of threads that suggested this phone specifically has problems with cards bigger than 64 GB. But the reaction to my thread doesn't seem to be so hysterical to me.
I been using a Toshiba Exceria M302 128GB as external storage since the phone first launched and it hasn't failed on me yet, touchwood. Although I only been using up to around 50GB usage, I have re-download my Spotify collection a couple times.
The SD card in my HTC 10 is going on 15 months old, and it's still ticking. I have never used it as adaptive storage. It just stores photos taken on the camera (which are backed up to Google Photos). Some games offer to save data onto the SD card, so I do that as well. It's a Samsung 64GB PRO (class 10).
Not sure if the UHS-1/3 cards will fare better.
