I just flashed Cyanogen RC2 and I am not able to get 3g. Where the 3g should be there is only a "1x". The data works but is incredibly slow, I asked a friend and he said that I might need to flash the new radio. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks a bunch
What is your current radio?? When you flashed CM it comes with current one..

Are you in an area with a bad signal? At work when I'm not near a window my connection will sometimes drop to that level.
No I have full service and I did a speed test and I got 1 KB/s dload speed

I'm getting the Same 1x with rc2 and nightly 14.

I've had that happen and what I did was luck mobile data off, wait a bit, then enable it again.

This was happening to me to, on every rom. The other phone on my account was faster to...odd. So I called Sprint and they "refreshed my data services". Flawless now. Now its says 3g instead of 1x. Stoked

is there any risk involved in this? eg. can they tell I'm rooted/running a custom rom? sorry I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff.
Also when I go to wireless settings there is no option for mobile data

Well don't mention it to them make sure you have a rom that has the option to update your prl, and profile. Because they'll want you to do it. Fare warning, they'll want you to update the firmware. I just went with it, but it didn't go through. It said "there is no system update". So it all worked out.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
This has been happening to me, too. I tried different radios, prl, etc.. with no changes. I even went back to a rooted 3.26 rom and let the phone update the firmware and everything it wanted to with no change in signal. The Sprint tech said everything looked fine on his end after having me update profile, prl, check for software and firmware upgrades. I can't remember what he called it but basically he reactivated my phone as a last step.
CM and mobile signal widget show 1x and when I go to ##debug# (on sense) and check EVDO engineering every field shows <failed>
When I get time I am going to go to Best Buy and hope their insurance works well.
That's weird because when I go to another rom like fresh my 3g works fine its just on cyanogen that my phone has this hiccup

I have an S3 that's flashed to MetroPCS.
Will flashing custom roms remove my carrier settings?
I'm just curious how "am I safe" related to your question haha. But flashing a custom rom made for sprint phones and service is very risky and not a good idea.

Yes, those ROMs are known to destroy lives, kill cats, start fire storms, and all that.
In short, stay away if you want to stay alive

neither of the above users are correct.
It doesn't matter what carrier it is made for, you can use it with MetroPCS. you might want to remove the Sprint specific apks from /system/app, but other than that, it will continue to work with MetroPCS.
I am running Jelly Bomb 7.0 and my wife is running Freeza's LJ7 leak. we both have 3g speeds, internet, mms in/out, voicemail notifications, etc.
If you are missing any of the above, check out my guide on how to get it done on the S3.

Thanks for the informative reply. What about the Sprint JellyBean update?
Sent from my SprintroPCS Samsung GS3.
You said custom roms. If you get the Sprint OTA you will lose root.
Understand that the settings that make your phone connect to MetroPCS,
Send and receive text messages and get 3g access can not be affected or overwritten by flashing any kind of rom or by receiving an ota.
However, mms requires modification to the APN, which requires root access.

BUUUUT I can root Jellybean once I get it.
The reason I asked is because I had an Evo 3D before this, and for some reason, when I would flash an AOSP ROM, my phone would lose its carrier settings and go back to Sprint. I think the phone had a modified or repaired ESN.
I can not believe how mean you guys are. Would you feel good if your Cat got killed just because of a careless ROM flash?

well, I guess I spoke too quickly. I have only ever used phones with clean ESN. I don't know how "repaired" or "modified" ESNs work.

I really am lost here.
Nevermind I took a shot at it and I am happily on CM10 right now. Also, I did the update through ODIN and that worked.
Also on a side note to the rest of you, Don't give me smart ass replies to a simple question. I don't need that. Thanks.
Hey all, I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what's going on with my phone/service. First off I hope this is the correct forum since none of them officially address the US Cellular version of the S3.
So what is happening is that my device seems to only want to connect to 3G. I am running the latest nightly for CM 10.1. It all started last week while I was in the twin cities on data roaming for a few days. On my drive back to Wisconsin I notice I would go in and out of 4G service.. by the time I hit home I was on solid 3G service. This was last Friday. I knew there was some work going on the towers in the area as my brothers 4G service started working on Sprint. I just assumed it was something to do with that.
By Sunday and still on 3G, I called tech and they did everything under the sun to try to get me back on 4G to no avail. They ended up sending me a new phone. When the new phone arrived on Tuesday I did a factory reset on the old phone just to clear everything before sending it to them and I noticed it went back on to 4G. This was on the stock ROM, rooted still.
So I switched the phone over to the new one and sure as hell, comes up in 4G. I replaced the recovery and restored a backup I had.. phone pops up.. 3G. :crying:
I did a factory reset a few times and nothing.. still would only come up in 3G mode. I then restored a backup I had for the stock ROM and what do you know.. 4G. Flashed a fresh download of the stable 4 snapshot.. 3G.. then I did a factory reset and what do you know .. 4G.. reboot the phone.. back on 3G.. Tried AOKP.. 3G..factory reset.. 3G.. Back to CM 10.1 nightly.. 3G.. factory reset.. 4G.. reboot.. 3G.
I cannot figure out what the hell is going on.. it clearly isn't hardware as it's now happened on two phones. I thought it might have had to do with being on data roaming for a few days so I waited until the data billing cycle finished (the 6th) but no luck.
I'm at wits end.. I will try anything at this point to get it working again with CM/AOKP.. doesn't matter.. just want my 4G back!
Your phone does not have 4G, It has HPSA.
On AOSP/AOKP, your connection will show up as 3G until it's being used. Let's see some speedtests.
Don't go by what it says in the ststus bar. What does it say inder Settings > About Device > Mobile Network type?
Now go start a large download, like a rom or something. While its downloading check again and post what you see.

Speeds
Thanks for the quick responses guys..
First thing was my status bar was showing 4G for about a year.. it was just recently I started having the issue. I used to get about 20Mb/sec down and now I'm getting about 800Kb-1.5Mb. It's clearly much slower than it was.
And the network type is CDMA - EvDo rev A:6
Try going under Settings, More Settings, Mobile Networks, and try a different network mode.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda premium
Its selected as LTE/CDMA/EvDo. The only other option is CDMA/EvDO. I think it's set correctly.
What about Network Operators? Have you tried checking or trying a different one?
Sorry, I just don't know much about the usc model.
What is the model# btw.

Not sure what you mean by network operators but the CDMA subscription is set to RUIM/SIM (which it should be) and the System Select is on Automatic and not Home Only.
Model is SCH-R530U
Under mobile networks you can manually search for and then select an operator.
Judging by your model number, you will likely find more and better help and probably others with your phone in the Verizon forum. (Possibly Sprints, but most likely Verizon)

Thanks. I think I found the answer.. some code in CM 10.1 was causing the NV to lose it's information. A code change was put in to prevent that from happening.. I just need to go back to stock and flash back to CM.
Thanks for the help guys!

Everything I've read involves going back to stock, factory reset, and reflashing. Is there any way to resolve this without reverting to stock? Or is that the only way? - Does it need to be unrooted? And also, one thing I was curious about, I have a stock backup, would flashing that, and then reflashing to a current CM backup do anything, or does it need to be a clean flash?
I would go totally back to stock and start over. It wouldn't even take more than an hour to do everything.

Yup, if you're having problems, taking shortcuts often result in more problems and more time involved than just starting over clean.

I was having the same exact issue on CM10.1 RC5 -- called US Cellular and eliminated everything but CM causing the issue. Flashing back to an earlier version of CM, trying RC2 first.
Do you have the SCH-R530U? If so, see my quoted post below.

I do have a SCH-R530U -- tried looking around for info about the SCH-R530U and 4g, didnt find anything. Do you have a link? Thanks!
Verizon has their own separate forum and you can get to it from the main forum page. Go into q&a and use the search this forum searchbox.
I'll try to get the link in a bit. Bout to leave for a while though.

Went the revert to stock and reflash route. Issue is resolved. I did have to do it twice, as after the first reboot with RC5, I lost 4G again, skipped it and am running the 6-19 Nightly and have had no further issues! Thanks for your help. You guys are awesome!

Sorry i cant do more right now.
I'm running the Miui v5 rom and it works great in every way except my cellular connection is rather unstable. I have a T999L and I flashed the LTE modem after flashing this rom but it didn't seem to help.
Any advice? Thanks!
If its a rom issue, most likely you'd probably get more help posting in the thread.
Shouldve been no need to flash the modem unless you specifically did something to yours. The rom wouldn't have touched it.
You certain its not a network issue. Maybe they just started working on the tower nearby and it has nothing to do with the phone.
Call support to ask.

Hi i just got a new galaxy s4 from tmobile and i wanna get a rom that is the pure android experience BUT i need to have wifi calling, my phone service in my area of town is a dead zone, so wifi calling is a must for me
before anyone says anything i have tried using the search function and came back with nothing, so i figured that this would be the next best spot to ask
thanks in advance
If you searched then you know that TMO roms are the only ones that have that feature, if you are asking, what rom is best for that, you may need to look past that, because on xda, best rom threads are NOT allowed. So, pick a TMO rom, try it, and try them until you find one that works best for you.
Thank you, good luck.

Well you are out of luck, there is no such rom which is pure android and which has wifi calling.
In order to have wifi calling the rom MUST be Tmobile/M919/Jellybean/4.2/Touchwiz based
custom or stock rom. Those are the only kind which includes and have the wifi calling feature..
Good luck!
I'd root, and remove bloat with titanium backup.
You could then flash your ge rom of choice.
But, if you need the tmobile touch wiz stuff go with wicked 8.
