Hi guys,
I've looked around however didn't find the answers so thought I'd just ask as might be useful for someone else too..
I want to install fonts on my Z1 Compact, however understand I need to root my device in order to do this.
I don't particularly want to change my rom or anything as quite happy with it.. Do I have a choice? Also, I'm assuming will lose all my personalisations during the process? Folders and icon location within my menu etc.
Basically, what is the most minimal disruptive way to be able to change fonts on my Device?!

u have to root if u want to change font on stock launcher.
but u can install custom launcher and change font of it. and if u want xperia look on ur phone do this;
install nova, apex launcher > install a Xperia theme
but even in this way u won't be able to change system fonts.
and when u root ur device without unlocking-bootloader i think u won't lose ur data.
cause unlocking-bootloader will erase all ur data (like factory reset)
u need to read about it in dev section carefully and follow instructions
i recommend u to search doomLord works for ur phone (if there is)
check this

Hi everyone, i would have searched but the problem is i dont know what im looking for.
I want to change my rom to a diffferent one which i can obviously find. But my question is.. i want to theme it too but dont i need to find the rom thats in an update.zip? Or something like that?
Or do i just adb to my pc then repackage what ive made changes to in the rights dirs into an update.zip and sign it and flash it?
Sorry i didnt know where to ask but i thought this would be the best place.

Hi.
I'm a noob at this myself, and i flashed my Desire yesterday. First of all you have to root your phone to do anything (at least I think so) and thats just so easy with unrEVOked.. And flashing radio and ROM is very easy too, just take a look at the turorials on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
VERY NICE and easy to understand =)
I rooted my origional rom with revoked which was easy (and scary!) But fine.
So i think i need. De-odexed rom so i can theme everything in it.
So.. to theme bits in my rom do i?:
Adb the files to my pc, edit and repackage them into apk?
Then sign it and reinstall it or do if i have multiple files keep the file structure and package as an update.zip and flash it using the boot menu optiong..thing lol

As the saying goes, learn to walk before you run
If you're new to rooting and the like then you shouldn't even be thinking about theming until you have a sound knowledge of flashing ROMs and adb. Go read up whatever you can find on Google and once you know flashing a ROM back to front then look into theming and other such activities

EddyOS is correct.
Try to find out about flashing a custom ROM first.
I suggest to begin with LeeDroids ROM first, since this ROM is relatively safe for newbies.

ignore if u did it.
its easy to get ur answer if u just google it,cos many sites are offering that rooting info/stuff.
Check here on how to root your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20033919&postcount=1
And don't be nervous … rooting feels like a big step the first time you have an android phone. But it's not. The longer you own the phone, the more you will learn and the more you will want to try out with it. There will be days when you will flash and completely set up about 10 different ROMs. There will be days when you will brick your phone. Those days are still rather far away for you.
No need to do anything before and after rooting. It's so small of a change that you will hardly even notice it.
Welcome to the forums, have fun and good luck with rooting!
Thanks very much to all for ur responses...
Yeah i referd XDA and rooting is easy but my request is what to do before we do root like backup or something and after rooting what the thing we shud to first like custom rom creations..something like that...

you dont have to create custom roms...............you just download and install the created roms by different devs....from the development.....and before rooting backup your current stock rom through CWM Recovery...........

is it possible to use CWM backup even phone is not rooted?

ofc it is, in recovery mode it doesn't matter if you are root or not.
And you don't have to so anything before and after rooting, it can easily be reverted and everything will stay the same.

Rooting-For new members here of XDA Galaxy Y Sub-Forums, Rooting is the Basic Mod we do on our Galaxy Y,Since we bought our Galaxy Y at Samsung stores so it comes with limitations to prevent messing up with your System-level files so the Root method is the answer so you will be the true master of your Galaxy Y.
Advantages &Disadvantages of Rooting
Advantages
-You're already the true master of your Galaxy Y.
-You can now use some Root apps from Play Store.
-You can modify now your Galaxy Y like Custom ROM's,Custom Boot Animations etc. that requires ROOT.
Disadvantages
-Your phone's warranty is already voided,It means that if you messed with your System files ,Then the phone manufacturer will reject your phone as it is rooted already,However you can UnRoot your phone if you have problems regarding the buttons etc.
-You can't use some of their Services that comes with your phone.
Just Google "How to Root Galaxy Y" then follow the directions so you can obtain now root access.
use search button and you will get information faster than waiting someone to answer. don't be lazy.
Ty for answer Sean De Jesus.. I heard for temporary root.. Is it exist? If I root phone, should I install custom rom or can only root? Would I got all settings like custom rom? What if something goes wrong? If they wont turn off or something..? I need more info..

Temporary Root will root your device but once you restarted or turned off your phone,Its gone. Its a good step for new phones to test if root is working fine on that device.
It depends on your mood or your knowledge about modding your Galaxy Y,If sonething goes wrong with your Custom ROM then flash back to your Stock ROM or if you have a backup called "Nandroid backup" you can restore it using Skin's CWM.
rooting is just made in order for you to be able to have admin privileges on your phone so that you can by-pass system restrictions
no need to worry, you can always unroot your phone
using the unroot.zip
ps: it's just piled down due to post like this, use the search button to find it
Pls search before posting..

Hi guys and gals.
I want to know if there is a way to change the "Slide to Answer" function of the phone without the need of rooting the device?
From what I have read and understand you can't alter the .apk files without rooting first. So that option is out...
I've tried looking for alternative ones in the play store but can't find what I need.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
unlock bootloader > root phone > install custom ROM...
if you are not willing to do that then good luck with what ur trying to do
Hi all,
I purchased a 16gb ZF2 which should be coming in today.
I've read lots of threads and am a little overwhelmed, so I am hoping to get some recommendations on what I should do to get started.
Thanks in advance.

Well u should first install adb on ur pc and Asus drivers as these are the most important things which will help u do other stuff.... So install these first on your pc...
Then you might want to root ur device...for that u have 3 methods... You can choose any of them if u ask me which method is easiest and fast i would recommend 1 click root tool (method 3) as u dont have to download huge stuff, u dont need a lot of knowledge and the most important you can apply via OTA without un-rooting ur device....
You might want to change/modify system after rooting... you can do it but dont delete bloatware/system app just freeze them as removing them causes bootloop while updating...so keep this in mind... For modifying you can also install Xposed framework and install "Fix lollipop memory leak" as it fixed android lollipop 5.0 memory leak bug... Then for extended battery life u can install greenify and for sound mod u can install Viper4android...
Here for all of this and other stuff visit this thread u will find everything there...just read it carefully

Stupid question, but what can I do once rooted? I like method 3 since it will still get OTA updates. I've always kept my android devices stock but I'm open to rooting, if there's a benefit.
Thanks for the info, I will do more reading.
