Questions about rooting and cyanogenMod - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I want to install CyanogenMod on my Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 but I have some questions.
1. Do you need to root your device first for CyanogenMod or does the installer from CyanogenMod do it for you? And if you need root does anyone know a good tutorial that is up to date.
2. Is it possible to return from CyanogenMod to the original software.
3. Can you still use the google play store when you root and use CyanogenMod?
4. I have the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 can anyone send a good website with the right version of CyanogenMod.
I hope someone can answer my questions .

1. Not required, CM is already rooted.
2. Yes, the easiest way is to make backup in CWM before installation.
3. Yes.
4. Check out topics in development forum.

no, easiest is to flash stock via odin, theres no telling whether preload apps are missing(or so..)

My bad, you're right about preload. But anyway, restoring backup can be easier and no PC required

Installing
Alright i'm going to use this thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2555021. Do I need to 'flash' or 'unlock the bootloader' first or something?
I never do this before. And do I need ClockWorkRecoveyMod or something or can I do it with the normal recovery mod? Alright I understand that I need to do some things before is can install this rom. Can anyone tell me or sent a URL where I have to start.

No, our boot loader was never locked.
First your device has to be on jelly bean. So if your still on gingerbread, use odin to flash a jelly bean firmware(samsung-updates.com)
Then download temporary clockworkmod by shaaan. Download the cm11 rom and kitkat gapps(there are 4, pick any one) then transfer all 3 files to your phone's external sdcard. Once your device is on jellybean, boot to recovery. It should be recovery .(use volume buttons to go up and down, power to select
Choose apply )update from sdcard. Locate and select temporary clockworkmod zip (its named update.zip) then your device should boot into cwm 6.
Wipe data/cache and choose install zip.
Then install from sdcard.
Locate and select cm11 rom and gapps.
Flash both zips.(use vol keys to go up and down, home to select).
Then reboot to system. Done
Sorry its a little messy though

Thank you very much for this feedback! Do I need to change some settings in Odin before flashing? And where I need to select the jelly bean firmware in Odin?

No. Dont change any settings.
You have to select PDA, find and select the .md5 that was extracted from the firmware zip you downloaded

When you push a kernel, you have a preinstalled recovery on your phone.

You guess right.install wugs tools to your pc and then you can install the Rom via pc and manage recovery etc
Edit :wugs tools can manage your phone even when you are in boot loader, this could be selected in tools.

Don't use the toolkit. Follow the sticky at the top of this section to set up adb/fastboot then flash a factory build and proceed as necessary from there.

I am really new at this can you give me the link to that
i will try this,fb later tnx
Thanks for this, flashed it to my stock rooted ace2, HK band yo~ It rockz~!
then i flashed cm11, it run nicely. so i try to make a backup and found that twrp was replaced by cwm, so i went striaght to flash twrp back. then the phone refuse to boot... it hang at "SAMSUNG GT-I8160" screeen
anybody experiencing the same, or it this just me doing the step wrong?
I factory reset before flashing cm11, the flash gapp, then factory reset again before cm11 first boot.
after that i flash twrp again via odin and then hang at boot.
Thank you.
thank You OP
thank you, thank you,. thank you!
I have had a bit of a nightmare recently with my Ace 2 as one of my recent posting shows.
there are far too many hits on Google to so called tutorials that simply do not work and I have spent years (or is that weeks?)
in getting my phone downgraded/rooted and with my preferred CWM.
the last straw was all the none working advice to get CWM installed, and then I found your thread.
10 minutes later TWRP was installed (a permanent one also!) - and my phone backup up.
all together now -
"happy days are here again -the skies above are clear again - dum de dum de dum de dum! :good::laugh:

broken recovery

hello guys, i need a help. somedays ago i flashed slimrom by polishvodka to my phone and my borther's. it's working without any annoying bugs until yesterday my lil bros ask me to update his phone to kitkat. so i download new maclaw's latest rom.
here is the problem, i turn off the phone and took the sdcard to copy the new rom from my pc. but when i entering recovery mode ( Home+power+volume Up ) i got nothing but blackscreen. i though that was rom problem so i reflash stock JB MG2. the rom boot up succesfully but recovery still same. i try to dowgrade to GB russian with pit and repartition and it's work. i can enter recovery mode. but if i flash any jb firmware ( MH1, MF1/2, MG2 ) i cant enter recovery, just blackscreen. my local fellow's suggest me to flash D-Kernel as it has built in CWM using universal kernel flasher. but this app request root. how can i root this phone if i cant enter recovery mode? please i need solution.
anyone?

Recovery (on the Ace 2) is integrated in the kernel.
And it's certainly surprising that on a freshly reflased device stock recovery doesn't work...
I'd personally try repartitioning with a 3-part firmware...

i thought so, and i've already flashing with Russian GB and JB MB4. both have pit and repartitioning but no luck. the flashing completely done, odin show succesfull and the rom boot up without problem but when entering recovery mode, still blank screen. i've downloade 2 GB firmware and 4 JB stock. mixing them and repeated downgrading/upgrading but still, stock recovery never show up . only str3tch72 post help me get cwm back. but after installing new rom/firmware, the blank recovery came back again
It is possible that you broke some partitions on your phone.. Can yoh get any logcat when you are on that blank recovery screen ?
