I attempted to use KFFaide to install twrp but the program installed the Kindle fire 2nd gen os on it. Please help.
You bricked it. You have to get the device into fast boot to flash correct files
Sent from my Kindle Fire HD 7 running PAC-man
This is going to be harder to fix from windows rather than linux, open a command prompt and cd into the kindle fire first aid directory, run
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
once you run this it should say waiting for device, now plug the kindle in while it is off, if it continues to say waiting for device and not go into fastboot, you are going to have to download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere, then open the device manager, plug the kindle in again while its off, you should briefly see a jem device pop up, right click it hit update driver, point it to where you extracted my drivers, if you can get them to install then run the command again while the device is off and unplugged and plug it in while its off, it should go into fastboot and you can reflash the bootloader and such from there.
My kindle still dont go the fastboot

Hmm, I'm mobile so tapatalk isn't letting me grab the YouTube link. This is why windows isn't fun, this works a bit better from Linux like I was mentioning in that old post, still sounds like its not seeing the drivers installed for the brief fastboot appearance it makes on powerup. If you think the drivers are good I suggest trying a Ubuntu live CD, opening a terminal and running a

sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot

Same procedure as before, plugin while off after running that command.
If the first command gives you an error you may have to enable the other repositories in the settings of Ubuntu under the software section. My instructions may be a bit vague but my laptops stuck in the other room for the night downloading updates or I would boot into Linux for better instructions.

I did something similar and bricked my kindle. Here's what worked for me.
1) In windows I downloaded the KFHD System.img Recovery Tool (KFHD_SRTv2.1- 8.1.4) found here.
2) I extracted the zip file to a separate directory named KFHD_SRT_v2.1.
3) I turned off my kindle.
4) I opened a cmd prompt and navigated to the KFHD_SRT_v2.1 directory created in step 2.
5) I ran the SR Tool.bat file.
6) I selected option 1 for Enable Fastboot.
7) I answered n to the question "Is your device turned on?"
The tool then displayed the following:
Please connect your device to the computer
< waiting for device >
8) I plugged a normal micro USB cable into the kindle and then into the windows PC. The kindle turned itself on and after a few seconds the kindle was in fastboot mode.
9) I downloaded these three files from links found here and copied them to the KFHD_SRT_v2.1 directory created in step 2.:
kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img
kfhd8-freedom-boot-8.4.6.img
kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
10) I returned to the cmd prompt and did the following:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot kfhd8-freedom-boot-8.4.6.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
11) The kindle rebooted into the twrp recovery and I was able to install the CyanogenMod 11.0 ROM found here.
I hope this helps you too!

Hello, I'm Pyrostic and I alpha tested the Kindle Fire build of TWRP 2.0.
The build that was posted last night was that of an older version. The build has since been fixed and re-uploaded at: http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
See @agrabren on twitter for the latest details on TWRP 2.0
For Kindle Fire TWRP 2.0 support please see the Kindle Fire RootzWiki forum. Team Win will not be providing support here.
During install when your device gets to the "Reboot" screen run
Code:
adb shell
idme bootmode 4000
If you did flash the old version and you find yourself stuck at the Kindle Fire screen you simply need to replace your twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img and run the following snippet of code.
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
if you haven't flashed yet. Please DO NOT FORCE install this new image using a dd command such as this:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
dd if=/sdcard/u-boot.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Simply follow the following instructions after downloading the image at http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img in an ADB prompt:
Code:
adb shell
su
idme bootmode 4002
fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
This will install both the FIREFIREFIRE U-boot and TWRP 2.0 .
FURTHERMORE if you did use the DD commands stated above you may not be able to get into ADB, and I hope fastboot still works for you. If it does, try :
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
If you are having problems please try the following. It has been reported that it is helpful to others.
If you LOVE TWRP 2.0 on your Kindle Fire. I suggest donating to @agrabren (<--- donation link) for his hard work and thanking me here for my testing .
I will not be replying to this thread. If you have issues please join us on RootzWiki for follow up support. I merely posted this here because I do care for my community in general.
There are so many different guides floating around and I've decided to simply follow this one. However, I get 'fastboot: not found' after the 'fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img' command. All I've done is put the twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img on my sdcard and run the following commands..
adb shell
su
idme bootmode 4002
fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
Did I miss a step? Thanks.
Is there anything I can do since I used the dd command and am now stuck at the firefirefire screen?
Edit: Tried the "fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img" and all I got was < waiting for device >
Fix: I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20421225&postcount=222 worked like a charm
i did the dd install... not having any adb issues though. are there any other problems with installing it that way?
I also used dd with no issues and can boot in and out of TWRP with no issues.

Yes a couple things, put the twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img file in the folder where you have fastboot installed. and It doesn't sound like you have fastboot on your computer. Please look around.

The new file was uploaded around 9:30am this morning. Anything from before then will not harm you using the DD method.
I also use dd method to install FIREFIREFIRE and twrp. After that I lost the ADB connection. Try to issue the comand:
fastboot -i 0x1949 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
But it shows < waiting for device >...
My Solution:
Change the VID to 0x18D1 and issue the command:
fastboot -i 0x18D1 boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
The < waiting for device > msg will still be showed. Don't worry. Reboot you KF. During the reboot period, the twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img will flash to your KF. After the twrp installation process is completed, you ADB will BACK~~~
my problem is that it booted into fastboot, installed, and now simply sits at the firefirefire screen. I do not have fastboot, nor will it go into recovery when the power button is pressed....I am running the new combo install, following the instruction posted above.
Is there a driver change in FIREFIREFIRE? Do we need to add it to the driver settings?
HELP!

i downloaded it about 2 hours ago (dunno what 9:30 am is for you.. its 8:51 for me right now so... yea) and it didn't cause any problems that I can notice. if I did flash the newer version what problems could I expect to see? fastboot works, firefirefire works, and adb works.
if it matters any I'm running CM7 not stock rom. Maybe that's why I haven't been having these issues.

This post saved my kindle when that happened to me
What's the advantage of using this one over the old one? Old one works fine for me.
Ok I've tried everything to get out of the yellow triangle screen and it won't budge lol.. O If I just reboot it just goes back to the same screen and with the fastboot commands it just stays on 'waiting for device'.
Edit: Trying solution in link by brian112.. annnnd it worked (but not before adding the 18D1 line to the .inf file and reinstalling the kindle drivers through Device Manager).

Now I'm totally confused. I dled it after 10. It worked just fine, I rebooted multiple times into it, did a backup and everything. Now I just rebooted, and I'm stuck at the FIREFIREFIRE screen, and can't see the device in adb. Windows won't even recognize the driver.
[FIXED] brian112358's post above fixed the problem.
Thanks..that worked
Now next time i need to get into the TWRP 2.0, I just hit the power button during reboot correct?
Thanks again!

My fix unfortunately doesn't fix everything! There may some extra steps depending on what state you are in and how you got there. Did the device driver install, and can you see it listed in Device Manager as "Android Phone" > "Android Composite ADB Interface"? That is the most important step for this to work for you.
If you can see that try just doing the following:
Code:
fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot reboot
i can't seem to get driver to install, kindle comes up as unknown device

So what happens if you follow the same instructions. I just updated my OP to include it saying either kindle or unknown, as it could work in either state (as posted by other people)
"In device manager, you'll see a device just called "kindle" or "unknown" with an exclamation point by it. At this point, you'll need to install drivers for it again. Pick "Browse my computer for driver software" BUT don't browse, just click on "Let me pick from a list...", and select "Android Phone" and then pick the newest "Android Composite ADB Interface" from the list. I think you may have 4.0.0.0 or something similar (you may have only a 2.x version possibly depending on which drivers you loaded to root your phone)."

Click to collapse
when i select "Let me pick from a list..." "Android Phone" is not an option, only "Unknown Devices" is shown. I try clicking that and i get:
windows has stopped this devices because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Tried updating vendor list and adding 18d1 to winusb, still cannot install driver
Update:
After restarting the kindle and connecting it, it comes up as "kindle" in devices manager. driver will install but it still is not recognized by adb...
I've looked everywhere for an answer to my question and have yet to find an answer. Probably because my Kindle Fire is truly bricked for good. But here is the series of events that lead to my current predicament.
1. I used Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.1 to root and install TWRP.
2. I was ignorant of the uses of TWRP so when I wanted to restore the Kindle to factory settings I did it within the kindle.
3. I ended up in TWRP so I looked up how to force the amazon update to the kindle. I cleared both caches and factory restore and then installed update.zip.
4. When I rebooted I am now stuck on the boot up screen with no access to TWRP. My computer still recognizes the kindle fire, but I can't access the directory of the kindle.
5. I've tried to use fastboot, Kindle Fire Utility, and anything else to knock it out of the boot logo, but I always am stopped by the error: exec "system/bin/sh": No such file or directory
i think you should try to reinstall twrp eighter with kfu or manually
kfu is the easier way - if you will try it manually this would be a good point to start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414832
then flash one of the prerooted stock images or cm7

I´m in the same situation. We can´t use kfu because everyrthing it does needs adb shell, wich isn´t working.
I´d love to be wrong, but the only solution we have is getting a factory cable.
adb is'nt working in fastboot - could you give this a try?

it should return "kindle"
btw. twrp installation of kfu don't use adb - it works with fastboot

The problem is we are not in fastboot mode. We have normal boot enabled.
your in normal boot and don't have adb available ?
sounds bad - maybe your only solution is really the factory cable !
would you try my last idea ?
do
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
should say <waiting for device>
and power off (hold ~20sec) and power back on before the command times out (~1min)
if we are lucky we should get a response
try it more than one times

OK, what you need is a recovery .img file. Once you have the .Ingram file type these commands.
From bootloop screen
./adb reboot bootloader
From bootloader screen
./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(Recovery image needs to be named recovery.img)
After flash is done
./fastboot reboot recovery
If have issues from fastboot, reboot the device and from bootloop screen
./adb reboot recovery

If I am not mistaken, to execute fastboot you have to boot in fastboot mode. My fire is always booting in Normal mode so all fastboot commands i execute have the same result:
< waiting for device >
the adb command suceeded
maybe this helps to get to fastboot:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414832
allthrough i doubt
edit: i saw - we have allready tried - but adb was'nt working before - now it's working ?
edit2: just for info: kfu uses this to switch to fastboot:
adb shell "idme bootmode 4002"
adb shell "reboot"
don't think that this works

Adb works. If I type adb devices it shows my Kindle is connected. BUT when executing adb shell or commands that use the sh like adb logcat it fails with the message from the topic title.
If adb shell were working i could use pokey9000´s program to boot in fastboot.
would need a command like "adb reboot bootloader" but never saw such one
could be creative and try "adb reboot fastboot" but it's a shot in the blue ...
sorry
I think we have the same problem
I think we have the same problem @osozraz. I'll share my experience and add more information that I feel is relevant.
1. I also used Kindle Fire Utility to root my Kindle and install TWRP 2.0.
2. I tried installing CM7, it worked, but figured I'd like to get back to stock firmware.
3. In TWRP, I too cleared both caches, factory restored and then proceeded to install update.zip.
4. When the Kindle rebooted it was stuck on the Kindle Fire boot screen.
Now, I researched and tried a couple of unbricking/debricking methods and failed. Here is what I've observed:
a. My device drivers are fine. If I do 'adb devices' it's recognized by the PC. However if I try 'fastboot devices' it returns nothing at all. I assume
b. I also tried the Kindle Fire Utility. Any command I try to do gets stuck on <waiting for device>. I figured that while KFU commands work on the PC's end, it doesn't work on the Kindle Fire. It's basically as if the Kindle is not connected to the computer (try running some of the commands in KFU with the Kindle disconnected, such as changing the bootmode. It'll still say <waiting for device>).
c. I can't to 'adb root' as it will say I don't have permission. Same with adb 'remount' or even 'adb shell', which from what I've gathered is crucial to this process. I can do 'adb reboot' though. I haven't tried rebooting into restore mode but I will try when I get a new MicroUSB B cable.
d. I can't change the bootmode, it gets stuck on <waiting for device> as I've said in point b. Is there a way to actually know what bootmode your device is in? I'm just assuming it's in normal bootmode because I can get fastboot.exe to detect it on the PC. In addition, KFU returns 'unknown'.
Factory Cable
Of course, there's the method of using a factory cable. I'm trying to create one and from what I've gathered there are two ways to do so: 1) use a breakout board (this one I think is the safest way to go) or 2) hack together one using your existing cable: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/146492-how-why-make-your-own-motorola-factory-cable.html. I'm also still scouring the forums for additional information that may help debrick/unbrick my device without the use of the cable. I'm afraid that I might end up damaging my PC or Kindle if I create the cable incorrectly. I've been following this thread though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392693 because I'm thinking of actually just buying one.
Hopes these all help.
You are probably out of luck and need a factory cable at the moment.
You wiped /system/ or killed its permissions, and thus it is unable to load shell.
@osozraz and @jkspn looks like we all have the same problem. Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried everything. Looks like the only option left is the factory wire. Only problem is that I have 0 skills with smoldering. I guess I could buy one but the site doesn't look like it will be restocking anytime soon. I'll see if I can't return it to Best Buy.

When it says waiting for device, what happens when you unplug and plug in the device?
So, I know not supposed to post questions that are lame, but I can't seem to figure this out. I will state my specs/situation:
I am stuck on the first step of installing FFF on my first Kindle Fire 1st gen.
I am on a Macbook Pro Retina 15" mid-2012 (USB3.0/2.0 mix ports only)
I am using KFU on a Win8 64-bit Virtual Machine (VMWare latest version)
The kindle fire is in fastboot mode (I'm pretty sure, at least).
It is stuck on the stock Kindle fire boot-up logo.
install_Drivers was run successfully after enabling unsigned driver installs.
Run.bat was executed
selected Option 5 first, to install FFF
FFF was downloaded by KFU, the Fire rebooted and then got stuck.
As it rebooted, I had forgotten to automatically have my Fire connect to the Virtual Machine, so VMWare prompted my with what system I wanted the fire connected to. I'm not sure if that delay has something to do with the stall and failure of KFU to install FFF or get out of fastboot.
KFU doesn't recognize the Kindle ("waiting for device" message; ADB: Offline; Boot Status:Unknown).
In my "other devices" on Windows Device Manager I see "Base System Device" and "Unknown Device"
My questions are:
1. How do I go about getting it out of fastboot mode even though KFU can't see the device.
2. What was I doing wrong in the first place?
Before you tell me:
I have read through the Guide
I have read through and searched much of the KFU dev thread
I have searched the forums, without a clear solution.
Thank you very much for your help!!!

Okay since you can use windows on a vm start there. Shift+right click on the tools folder inside KFU select open command window here, plug in the kindle, type the first command hit enter, type the second command hit enter if all goes well it should reboot normally. Same concept on a mac whatever directory adb and fastboot are in open a terminal, same commands same method. Good luck
Edit: in fact you can just copy paste my commands then you know you got it right. Dunno about the cable yet see if the commands work.

Did the first one, but still says "waiting for device" and nothing is happening. :/ (EDIT: for clarity's sake, nothing happening means its still stuck on the kindle fire white/orange stock boot logo)
btw, thank you for your help.
Hold the power button to turn the device off. Enter the command, and turn the device on when you see "waiting for device".

still says "waiting for device" in the terminal.
also, windows still comes up with "usb unrecognized" message at the bottom right of my screen.
What's next?
Thanks for joining to help, soupmagnet
Okay rerun the driver.bat packaged with kfu then plug the device in see if it comes up in device manager.

Still doesn't show up. (It also occasionally crashes my mac system when I plug the kindle in now :/ )
If I get a factory cable, will that likely solve this easily?
Well I'm not a Mac person but it's far better with drivers than Windows ever will be maybe google how to setup and and fastboot on a Mac and go from there. Download install breakdroid that should be accompanied with the drivers.

Got it! Using Breakdroid, I was able to capture the Kindle as it powered on. I believe my main problem was that there was a significant enough delay in connecting the Kindle via USB to the Windows Virtual Machine, that the ADB couldn't access it in time to capture it. Or whatever.
Solution: I used BreakDroid on my Mac. Turned the kindle off, then back on while Breakdroid was waiting for my device to perform Step 1 on Breakdroid's Kindle Tools. Then it immediately captured the Kindle when I powered it on. Went through the steps on Breakdroid, and it's working with bootloader and recovery
Works great! Have all my stuff back. And...it's rooted
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP, GUYS!
EDIT: Now how do I install Google Play?
Firstly, if there is already a thread about this that I've missed, I'd be appreciative if you'd send me in the right direction to get information.
Anyway, my Kindle Fire HD, rooted CM 10.1, will no longer boot past the orange Kindle Fire Splash screen. I've tried using fastboot commands and all of the button configurations in any and all attempts to get a response from my device, but it remains on that screen with no looping or any kind of change. When plugged in (or turned on while plugged in) it's registered in Device Manager as the usual "Jem-PVT-Prod-04" when drivers aren't installed, and then disappears from the Manager within five seconds. I can't install the ADB drivers because it vanishes, so I cannot communicate with the device from my computer; therefore I cannot fastboot (as far as I can see) and have no possible way to recover it.
Is my last hope a fastboot cable, or is there something that I have missed this whole time? Thanks for any and all help!

Thats a kindle fire hd 8.9" model, fastboot cables don't work on them. A easy way to fix this is to boot a ubuntu live cd and install the fastboot command from the repos and run it. Latest ubuntu is 14.04 lts and i haven't checked the package names yet, but if it has the same name as on 13.10 then these instructions should work. Boot a ubuntu live usb/cd and open the settings and look for something like software updates and check off all the download form internet boxes. Hit reload if it asks, and if it asks ignore the first command in the next part of the instructions.
Now open a terminal and run these commands:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Now that it says waiting for device, plug the kindle in while its off and you should be in fastboot mode. From there you can reflash it from windows with kffa or srt, or just do it manually while in ubuntu.
So I used the Linux command to put my Kindle in fastboot mode, but now it says it cannot connect with MTP device, so I still cannot flash any type of recovery. Even though it is in fastboot mode, and the drivers are installed, ADB is still not working on Windows.... and I'm not sure how to do it manually on Linux...
MTP is irrelevant with fastboot, as is adb, you don't use adb commands with fastboot, you use fastboot commands. You can use kffa or SRT to restore it from windows once it is in fastboot, or restore it manually in Linux using SRT's images. You probably will have to use SRT, I have heard a report that kffa's downloads for the images are offline again, though I'm not positive on that.

Hello all,
Recently recieved a Fire HD 8.9" (OS 8.5.1) from a family member that upgraded to a newer Fire HDX. I decided to convert the tablet to Pure Android to give it another lease on life, I followed the instructions here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ki...t-install-twrp-android-fire-os-8-5-1-t3278286 and I goofed. I forgot to "apply stack override" when flashing and when rebooting to go into TWRP it froze at the boot animation and will not connect to my PC (you can watch on device manager and it appears for less than 2 seconds before disconnecting). I have been out of the rooting and installing custom ROMs for a few years and I am lost as to what to do next. Fastboot and ADB commands are something I have not used before (I do have the latest Android SDK installed) using the command prompt doesn't scare me and I am used to fixing Windows OS issues using it. I have read a couple of threads saying to flash the factory system image to the device using fastboot but haven't found a step-by-step on exactly how to do so. I also have installed the driver for Kindle Fire HD 8.9" JEM found on XDA if that helps. TWRP is/was installed prior to rebooting, would just like to get back to where I can try again. This community has helped me a lot in the past when it has come to my Android devices.
Thank you,
Coop
I have the exact problem and and have been trying to find the solution for a week but nothing works. If I by chance find something I will come back and post it.

To go to fastboot - Shutdown your device.. and then make sure you have adb and fastboot installed in your pc/windows then type in
HTML:
fastboot devices
and hit enter. This should say <waiting for devices>
Then, connect your kindle hd to PC. It should show... fastboot mode
First make sure you have the correct device.. type the following... it should say ...jem
HTML:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
If you are able to get to fastboot mode.. if you have the stock image for boot, recovery, and system backups.. do the following
1.
HTML:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot [your boot image file]
2.
HTML:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery [your recovery file]
3.
HTML:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system [your system/os file]
you should be able to restore to factory os.. Also, this worked for me in Mac.. had some issues using PC
I have the same situation and my Fire HD 8.9 is not detected by fastboot or adb.
this is a COPY/PASTE of my own post. the files i specify are the exact names, just search this section of X-DA for them. SEE BELOW.
i had the same problem with the "red screen of death" as well. i found that if i installed the "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" and / OR (i did the minimal first.... ) KFHD_SRTv1.3.5 and RUN THE APP FIRST, then when it says "waiting for device" you then plug in the ALREADY OFF tablet it then WORKS!! says "fastboot mode" on the tablet. and it is listed in device manager also.
i got BOTH apps here at this board in this section.
WARNING: i run windows XP with all updates as of 10-31-2017 (pm me for info, 2 lines of text!! ) . NEWER windows versions have "permission issues". fixes are posted in multiple topics here in the Amazon 7" Kindle Fire HD, 8.9" Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire 2 section. READ THEM!!
just make sure you do
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
in the CMD before you boot your device.
I made mistake of booting device then entering command prompt and couldn't get anywhere.
I also tried different usb ports.
also updated drivers on usb ports.
I used iobit driver booster 5 today and scan/installed outdated drivers. Maybe that helped.
plugging usb I noticed windows recognize something with word jem in it when I turned on device.
turned off tablet and retried and I got into fastboot.
again make sure fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product is active in CMD before turning on tablet
