I flashed #203 from within the FKU app and have not had any problems whatsoever. In the event that anything ever goes wrong and you lose or break root, you can generally flash SuperSU through recovery or push it through adb to get things sorted.

You can also reflash rom without wiping... But you will lose the custom kernel

AOSP kernel maybe? I know some (all?) of the stock based ROMs don't flash a kernel. Just a guess, haven't gone from AOSP to stock.
Do you have a nandroid of a touchwhiz rom ? I go back and fourth to cm10 to my stock nandroid backup without issue. Try that.

What kernel did you use?

Kernel was on my mind today since I went from WanamLite to DietICS and suddenly WiFi stopped working. It was because I had flashed the faux123 kernel while on WanamLite and had to reflash it after going to DietICS. Little things I'll eventually get used to!

Yep definitely kernel, would a said so immediately as I had same issue. Always be weary of the kernel u have installed when flashing to new or different rom as many roms dont have a kernel with them. And many custom kernels will cause this issue. U got it figured out anyways so live and learn and keep it in mind for future

Unlock bootloader if you haven't already, then flash either latest versions of twrp or cwm, then a custom kernel with it. No need to wipe caches or anything.
I did

Flashing Rom question

I am currently on aopk right now and I am planning on flashing something else. The question is.. Do I have to put my phone back to stock to flash a new rom? What's the easiest way to flash a new rom while currently running a custom Rom?

Compete a full wipe and install the same way you did your current custom ROM. No need to return to stock.

Unless your going from an AOSP or AOKP or CM10 rom to a stock based rom such as Ultimatum that are on different versions of JB (4.2 to 4.1.1). You would most likely soft brick if you did not go back to stock first.
Other than that it is not necessary.

Actually it won't, you just have to do a factory reset to wipe data, then flash away. No need to flash back to stock.

Unlocked bootloader is needed to run a custom kernel. Root is needed to tinker with and make proper use of said kernel unless you wanna run the stock values. And really, what's the fun in that? Since (if I remember correctly) unlocking your boot loader requires a wipe, then no I don't think you can. But considering most of us have probably done fresh installs literally hundreds on times, I can tell you it doesn't take long at all to set your device back up. Just do it.
My Gnex has unlocked and rooted already, so I can just flash without doing any wiping, right?

[Q] Bootloader and AOSP Roms

I've been reading that the leaked kitkat touch wiz Roms have a new bootloader and you cannot flash back. My question is, do kitkat AOSP Roms have this new bootloader as well? I want to flash an AOSP Rom but don't want to get stuck.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium HD app
Unsure what they mean by stuck... Flashed latest cm and decided I didn't like it and just restored my latest cwm backup which was to jedi and I have had no issues. Would love an explanation too.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply, what I mean is I've read flashing a tw kitkat Rom with the new bootloader prevents you from flashing back to a 4.3 Rom (what I meant by stuck). I was wondering if the same would happen if I flashed a kitkat AOSP rom. Seeing as you were able to flash back I guess my question is answered.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium HD app
Custom ROMs like CM don't flash bootloader changes, so you can go back if you want.
Official TW ROMs flashed via Odin or OTA update typically contain bootloaders.
These are the ones that you want to avoid.
