[Q] Rooting the Note 2

Hello all
Previously i've only owned HTC devices, and rooted several of them with ease. Now that i've bought the Note 2, i'm faced with a problem.
I've read around a bit, and apparently you use ODIN to flash with, through i haven't downloaded it yet. (But i've read that you can also use a normal recovery like CWM?)
Is there anything like S-ON / S-OFF (for HTC devices) for Samsung?
And my last and final question, specifically for rooting the note 2 and putting custom roms on it:
Can i download ODIN, get the CWM file posted in the Omega rom thread for example, flash it through ODIN and then just go into recovery and flash the rom? Then it'll be rooted with custom recovery, and good to go?
Hope that wasn't too many questions, i simply don't want to mess anything up with my new phone

the system is completely unlocked once you have root access, no S-off needed.
your other questions are a bit unclear but i'll try to explain.
you will need odin at least once.
you have to flash cwm or a pre-rooted custom rom packaged in a .tar file using odin first.
if you chose cwm you can then install root or a custom rom packaged in a .zip.
the easest route if you have an N7100 is to install the cwm+root tar from forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901196 using odin.
you only have to flash 1 file and it will automatically install cwm, reboot into recovery, and then root your phone.
to enter download mode(required for odin) you need to turn on your phone while holding home and volume -
took me a while to figure that out.

d2tmo(SGH-T999v) Bootloader and Baseband version

I'm looking to see if i'm all up to date. I have the T999V version. I do a lot a search, without being 100% sure if I have the latest version of the bootloader and baseband for my phone.
Is someone knows what are the last version ?
My current are:
Bootloader: T999VVLDLL1
Baseband: T999VVLUEML2
All the modems are listed in this comprehensive thread. I don't know if you are on Wind or Mobilicity.
I aware of that thread, but it's only for modem(baseband) but not bootloader
I'm looking to find a solution for newer rom that won't boot since cyanongenmod merge s3 variant together to d2lte
Some people seems able to boot, and some like me can't
Maybe it's just cause by older bootloader like mine (VLDLL1 for SGH-T999V)

first download your own region stock firmware tar.md5 for the intended model. in the link below it is for my model, do not flash that, search for yours model and region.
you can follow steps in the link below and also you can download firmware from there.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/62533/I9190UBUCOF1_I9190PNTCOD1_PNT/
here i copy paste the instructions.
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.10.7
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.10.7
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
i have i9190 model, and have flash stock firmware alot form cm13 or 12.1, never bricked, also when you done flashing goto recover and restore factory setting and clear cache if stuck at samsung logo.

Modify stock rom

S4mini value edition
How can I customise a stock official samsung rom?
The only way I know how to get the stock rom is to flash the stock firmware that also changes the kernel and radios, the ones from sammobile used with kies.
I don't know how to get a twrp flash able zip.
the end result is that I would like to take that zip containing the official and delete bloatware Samsung apps that are not needed or that I don't use, add root and make other tweaks.
all you need is this -> www .androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934551258
just flash it with your ODIN select settings as following:
Check Auto Reboot / Uncheck F. Reset Time
select AP the .md5 file then flash.

Latest M919 (OK3) no-nonsense guide: root + sim unlock + ROM + de-bloat

Nothing new here, just a guide putting it all in one place. Please THANK the original posters, not me.
Begin with stock OK3 firmware on M919 (T-Mobile Galaxy S4).
Stock firmware is here if needed.1. Root with CF-Auto-Root (CF-Auto-Root-jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.zip from Chainfire).
Straightforward Odin flash. (Odin included in download)
After reboot, run SuperSU. Click OK to disable Knox. If it doesn't do anything after 30 seconds, reboot the phone, run SuperSU again, and click OK to disable Knox. Works the second time.2. Sim unlock (network unlock) with gatonico's method.
Flash ONLY MDL modem.bin (not non-hlos.bin). If you download MDL modem as a tar, untar it or Odin will flash both. Non-hlos.bin makes the OS unstable. You'll need to use an Odin version <3.10 and put the bin in the "PHONE" or "MODEM" slot.
RegionLockAway is very straightforward.
Flash whichever modem.bin you like. You can re-flash non-hlos.bin; it shouldn't make any difference.3. Confirm phone is unlocked with another operator's SIM if you like.
4. Flash a ROM if you like.
Nana Ayeh's 5.1.1 rom. It's fast and stable. Unfortunately, it's not a T-mobile base so Wifi Calling will not work.
Fenny's 4.4.2 rom is also fast and stable. Wifi Calling does work and it is de-bloated. However, it's not quite as new as the latest stock (4.4.4).
In any case, the easiest way is to flash TWRP with Odin. Then copy the ROM ZIP to an SD card (you can do this via USB cable after booting the phone if you want). Power phone down. Boot into recovery (VOL UP + HOME + POWER). Wipe dalvik cache, system, cache and data. Wipe internal storage if there's nothing on it you need. Then install the ROM ZIP from your SD card.4b. Basic de-bloat if you stayed with stock OK3.
Settings->More->Application Manager. Slide right-to-left until you get to "ALL". Find each of these apps, click, then click "Turn off". Obviously there are many more you probably don't need, but these are the obvious ones that run on startup.
Lookout Security.

Hi, does this unlock the bootloader so you can flash custom ROMs or is the T-Mobile bootloader already unlocked? Thanks.
T-Mobile bootloader is not locked.
