Hi guys,
i'm running AOKP Build 3 , fresh install, Apps downloaded through the Play Store and restored data for some apps ( no system apps) via Titanium Backup.
But from time to time i notice hot reboots. I turn the screen off, but it will not get on again. After about 1-2 minutes the phone reboots ( i see the Boot animation).
Except all is running smooth. Also i tried the latest Franco Kernel, but same Problem.
Could someone look into the last_kmsg i pulled right after a hot reboot? Maybe a dev or someone with more knowledge than me can find the Problem.
Thx,
Ebi

What kernel are you using? And are you using supersu, or superuser? I had the same issue b4 random reboots, it seemed that the issue was root not sticking in and also the Franco kernel, think my phone didn't like it, I had to re-root and re-install cwm recovery, using the toolkit and that seemed to help, I had the issue with every ROM I flashed, hope It helps

I faced the constant reboot issue on stock JB... apparently, switching to CM10 or AOKP helped (I've stuck to AOKP since it contains the stock apps... sans the bugs present in all AOSP roms).
Are you sure it's a root problem? I'll go try it out now and check.

I used the Stock AOKP Kernel, and later the Franco. And both had the same issue.
Will try suprakarmas way
It all points at the root not sticking with the Franco kernel app as well for some reason once I started messing with that sucker I started having the reboots, if the problem persist I advice to use the toolkit to reinstall stock ROM, re-root and reinstall custom recovery, I had teamwins but I went back to cwm, it all has been good am on android revolution HD am staying away from aokp and cm10 till there's a stable release

that log is from cm kernel??
Code:
[ 26.531280] Restarting Linux version 3.0.36-cyanogenmod-geb0f696 ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 12 13:52:24 PDT 2012
what's going on? i thought we were dealing with aokp and/or aokp+franco.
No, this was after flashing Francos kernel. Don't know why it is not shown but maybe this was the problem, a bad flash?
What I did was rerooting the phone with the toolkit and re flash Francos kernel. No reboot till then, but what I noticed after switching the phone on this morning the cpu settings are gone. They are back at the defaults...
Is this a known issue?
Will report back after work.

ahem i wouldnt know. dont run aokp or cm right now.
i would advise you first to learn how to start fresh google way. forget toolkits. read efrant's stickies, they're in his sig. good, know you all about fastboot and adb basics.
reflash latest cwm non-touch. reflash aokp in cwm, you dont need to root to flash a rom. use it like that for a couple of days. no issues risen? reflash franco in cwm. this is how you troubleshoot.
sent from my i9250
So, it seems that for some reason, flashing the Franco kernel thru his app causes the reboots, and, either thru Google or toolkit, going back to stock, re-rooting or no need to do so, reinstalling cwm recovery solves the issue, at least on my end, just my 2 cents \„„/

Ok work is over and no reboots since about 20hours
I think the rerooting or the re flashing of the recovery, which is one step in rerooting, solved the problem.
Thx everybody

please edit the title thread with the [SOLVED] tag.
Hey guys,
me again.
The problems are back
I don't know why, but i don't get a rom to run more than 1 1/2 days without having a reboot.
Today i also tried the Odin Flash. So know i am running a stock Rom, just rooted. The whole day it was fine, i used my phone the normal way. But now i am back at home, and what? I pressed the power button to turn the screen off and instantly a second time to get it back, but it didn't come back. Black screen.. and some seconds later i see the Boot Animation.
After it was back i tried to find the last_kmsg, but it is not there in the stock Rom.
Is ther another place to find something like a log?
Hope to get some help
Cheers
Could someone tell me the most efficient method to go back to full stock, and reroot again?
Maybe i did something wrong during this process !? Everything i tried to do seems not to work :/

You should have edited thread title again, removing [SOLVED] tag; I just happened to come back because I wasn't sure if I had checked this one already or not.
/proc/last_kmsg should be there. How did you try getting it, adb or from a file explorer on the device? I'm at work so no adb here, but I've just checked and /proc/last_kmsg is there for me. Not sure if factory image from Google doesn't have it, but it should, I'm running my own build from JZO54K (android_4.1.2_r1), and I believe this is the closest to the factory image as it gets.
As for your last question, I already told you: read this thread.

Ok i found the last_kmsg but it is really big and i only See a line with omap and while no Data requested... Again and again.
Will have a closer look at it later and Maybe Post it from my PC.
But before that i will follow your guide and hope to solve the issue.
Btw good morning
Gesendet von meinem Galaxy Nexus mit Tapatalk 2
I'm back, i followed the guide, did everything and just rooted my Phone. Except that everything is original.
More than 1 day i had no issues, but today... reboot. I didn't do anything, at first it happened in the morning at work, but i think it was not a "full" reboot, because in the about phone menu i saw a on time around 8 hours.
But later the phone was just lying at my table and suddenly i saw the boot animation. I have no idea what to do.
What i got is the last_kmsg, but it's really big again so i was just able to copy a little thing of it. I don't know how to find the exact time of the reboot so i hope it is inside this pastebin:
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=xZatKns5
Any ideas? Is the reboot shown there?
What i will try is to get a new sim, mine is very old, maybe this could be a solution!? Except i have no idea .. could it be a hardware issue?
Cheers
Edit: Just an idea, could it have something to do with the baseband? I read a lot of errors or something like that related to omap things.. !?
Can I suggest you they flashing another kernel - one with SmartReflex off? Faux's kernel (v22) works... so long as you have the version WITHOUT SmartReflex.
Well... it works for me. SmartReflex and my phone hate each other (it happened one, random day... no rhyme kr reason to its occurance). And I don't undervolt.
sent from my mini tractor
What exactly is smart Reflex?
Iam still running the Stock Rom just rooted and the Problem changed a bit . I did not have real reboots, 1-2 Times a Day the screen keeps beeing Black if i Switch it on. But After some seconds it is back and runs as if nothing happened. So not real a Reboot But a relatively long break...
Will wait for my New sim now...
Dont know if i should try a custom Rom till then.
Gesendet von meinem Galaxy Nexus mit Tapatalk 2
Smart Reflex is some automatic voltage/undervolting the kernel performs in order to save some battery. It comes enabled with the stock kernel... and for me, that's the cause of my reboots (and kmsg wasn't very helpful except for the fact that some MPU clock was being reset... and there's an option [to disable it] with the Smart Reflex parameters).
Soooo.... I turned it off altogether.
Rarely do I see blackouts for a second while my phone screen is on and I'm doing something on it. Before, it would reboot without warning.
If you're in the stipulated warranty timeframe, try getting it replaced and see if your new unit fixes it... else, try a new kernel.
PS: trickster mod is a very useful app... hint hint.

Hi all.
My first post here and a couple of questions.
Per instructions found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195283 , I was able to root my phone using TWRP and odin.
The phone works fine but many of the apps are missing (maps, youtube etc). I was able to download the maps 6.14 apk and install it, but the gps takes forever to lock now. Is there a s2 specific app that was somehow wiped out by the rooting process?
Also, the stock browser is set to full screen, but when typing in the address, the address bars flickers on and off and I can only see the google search suggestions untill I press the keyboard again. Im using stock samsung keyboard.
Don't know if it's normal, but the phone doesn't pull my contacs from the sim card before or after root. I used to have HTC Mytouch from T-mobile and the names and phone numbers all came up as soon as I insterted the sim card into that phone when I bought it 2 years ago.
Thank you.
Sorry forgot to add.
The phone is ( was?) stock JB 4.1.2 (t-mobile) and the only thing I did was root it.
The only thing I can think of is to re flash the stock ROM in Odin. Then redo installing recovery. I followed roughly the path to root you described and didn't have any problems.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Do you know if the settings and data will be wiped out if I try to reinstall ? I dont have a spare phone I would hate to lose the apps and the texts and etc.
Well, if you have twrp, install it first and make a backup that INCLUDES the preload partition as well as data, system, cache, etc. Then you don't need to worry. But odining stock job over stock job should be harmless since it won't overwrite data -- just be sure repartition isn't checked

Well, unrooted, rerooted, wiped clean, reinstalled stock 4.1.2 and nothing ...
The gps is crap with all the .conf files tried. And no matter what, once I install SU , the damn apps disappear after reboot. Plus considering that it's a 1.5mhz processor, its slower than my old HTS 1.2mhz Mytouch and even 1mhz ZTE warp. Probably gonna send it back. Too bad, since I like the screen a lot.
You're missing apps can be redownloaded from the play store. As for your GPS problem, download and follow the instructions to install AGPS from this thread and you should be fine.

Thanks , but I already tried that.
As for the apps, it's really not a big deals, but the fact that the SU app makes them disappear is a bit of a concern. , plus the fact that gps works like crap even after the patch and several new gps.conf files , make this phone an overpriced and kinda overhyped toy. Frankly one shouldnt be looking at patches and fixes on a phone this "good". If an old ZTE and Htc work without a hitch, then this thing is about $150 too expensive for what it is.
And for the life of I cant understand why wouldnt sucksung put a damn led light on the case to alert the user of missed calls or texts instead of us having to resort to the nolite and such..
Thank you for all the help though).Thank you though for the help.

Appreciate the advice.
But Ive done that already. The gps ,when it does finally lock, takes forever. Regardless of the .conf files. And no matter what, after SU gets installed and the phones is restarted some apps are simply gone.
Instead of stock ROM I would give you the suggestion of trying out cyanogen mod since imo its actually much better everything wise over stock ROM
Give it a whirl and tell us what u think

I see there is no signal, and can see in the phone information that the radio is turned off. I have an app that used to get to the screen but now it hangs due to the phone has stopped issue.
Is there any way I can turn the radio on by using some code with the dialer pad?
I have tried recovering 3 other nand backups, but none work. all have the same result.
Thanks for any help someone might be able to give me!
It is a rooted samsung galaxy s4 M919 from t-mobile
is it stock rooted or what ROM are you running ?what kernel? what settings ? what mods? we need some detail sir but for starters if you can get it to boot try *#2263# and if its not set to automatic try clicking your options auto is the default setting

Remove your sd card sim card and battery let set 10 minutes put back in see if the message is still present if so you might need a new sim card.

I have tried both of the above suggestions and no joy!
I have 2 nandroid backups that were done when the phone was working fine, and recovering either one has the very same symptoms.
I'm not sure that all the phone is backed up or restored in entirety, unless there it a hardware fault in this phone. It's 31 days old today..... :<(
if anyone else has any ideas, I'm all ears!
Thanks!
Might just be a lemon. I would just flash back to stock then take the phone and get a replacement.

Yo Tyler!
I was not drunk nor did I flash anything, it was going fine and suddenly, poof!,,,,,
Anyway, I tried your suggestion and IT WORKED! I also saw, (I don't know how/why) all my apps being installed automatically!
Well, almost all anyway. I had to install only maybe 3 apps, and that was all. Even my keyboard configuration that I made lots of cosmetic changes to- via the apps setup, was like I had set it up as... Weird, but great for me!
Thanks for your suggestion. It's quite odd, as one of the nandroid backups was made using the exact rom image that I used to Odin back to stock....
Nevertheless, as the Hawaiians say, MAHALO NUI LOA! Tyler No Ka OI (Tyler is the best)
Aloha...
Glad I could help. The modem isn't in your back up that's why back ups won't fix this problem. As for apps, it's from syncing your Google account. Aloha

If you chose to have Google back up and restore your apps, it will do just that.
I turned my s3 off for about a month while I used my note2. When I turned it off it was rooted with twr recovery and running a custom Rom. When I turned it back on the Rom was still running however I did loose all the widgets I was using. Over night titanium tried to run the scheduled backup redo. Then in the morning I noticed titanium said it could not gain root access. I tried other apps that require root and none will gain access. The super user app is still there but says there is no root. It's simple enough to re-root but I'm really curious as to what happened. Any ideas?

Please Specify Rom and Android Version.
In short, if your TWRP recovery is intact try a factory reset from there.
Thanks Persius, I haven't tried to go into recovery since I have to do it manually cause I'm not sure what will happen if it's not there. My computer is broke right now so I'm limited. Say... Are you sure we talking about an SIII or an S-II ?? That sounds like the 4.1.2 Stock of an S II. What does it say under Settings > About Phone > Model Number ?
Turn off completely then Hit Volumn Up + Home +Power all at the same time. Wait for 3 minutes or so with all 3 pressed. You will see Recovery come on. Let go of all 3 buttons and then do a Factory Reset in the recovery.
Thanks again, under build that's what it says, jzo 54, I think it might be Liquid Smooth. And it is an s3. I will try to go into recovery if you don't think anything will happen if that's not there either. Something else weird I just thought of is I also had some strange kiddie like themes and apps I never put there. It's like someone else used my phone but that's not possible as I saw it every day and live alone. Strange. Any way, thanks again

Yes its safe to Go into Recovery. Go ahead and do a Factory Reset. Let me know how that goes.
Ok, did the factory reset and went ahead and did the ota update to 4.0 I'm going to root again. Do you have any suggestions on a good Rom? Also what is the best way to root these days and best recovery? Thanks Perseus I appreciate your help and advice

I am confused. Wasn't (or shouldn't it be ) your S3 already on the JB 4.1 ? What did you mean by OTA update to 4.0 ? Are you referring to the OTA Update to 4.3 ?
I can not comment on Rooting unless I know which os version you have.
Sorry, was a misprint. Yes, went to 4.3
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So if you still have TWRP then flash Superuser from Recovery. Lookup its thread here on XDA.
However, with the Knox being present and SELinux in Enforcing state, your chances of Rooting are slim.
Please don't brick your device.
hi, i have a samsung galaxy s3 (ATT).
its rooted, ive been on a few roms this last month, and they all lag at times. sometimes it works flawlessly like it should, but there are many times when my phone just lags. its so bad that i literally have to pull out the battery and put it back in to reboot since rebooting the regular way lags and takes forever as well. ive wiped the system and installed new roms, cleared cache, messed with performace settings (i have them set to 1500 mhz or lower). i have no idea whats causing the lag. must i wipe the entire internal sd first and then install another rom? i need an opinion, any help? thanks
Have you made sure that none of your apps are slowing the device down....I would install something like trepn profiler and see what your soc is doing
