I messed around following some tutorials, managed to root my phone and unlock the bootloader - a bit of messing around in Titanium Backup removing apps and services later, and I'm having a few issues. I'd be quite happy going back to stock rom, or flasing a rom - just as long as I get the functionality back.
My issues so far are :
1. Phone is not recognised via usb (brings up a MTP Device installer prompt, which never works) - trying with PC companion to no avail.
2. Received calls go straight to voicemail, dialled works fine - messaging works fine. All settings for diverts etc are set to disabled, tried a different sim in the phone, on a different network, same results.
Sony Update Service and PC Companion are installed, I SHOULD have the adb drivers installed, but to be honest, I'm not too sure if they are anymore. I still have the folders where I extracted all of the bootloader/root stuff, which I've called root and fastboot if the drivers there might be of any use.
Bit more info :
R800i - network unlocked
Build Number 4.0.2.A.0.42
Running stock rom, with modifications

Dont try to repair your phone with PC COMPANION because you unlocked your bootloader and you can HARD BRICK it.
Go to settings and enable unknown sources and usb debugging and than try to connect phone and see if pc recognised your phone.
Be sure that you're not on windows 8 because windows 8 has some problems with some phone drivers.
If your phone is not recognised, than try to download xperia play drivers prom internet and manually install it and than reconnect your phone.
Now phone sholud be recognised and you can flash .ftf in flash tool and that's it.
I'm on XP - drivers seemed to install just fine - tried it a few times to no avail. Shows as an S1 Boot device in flash mode. Got the following last night trying two different firmwares:

Thanks for the help so far.

look at this two lines in flashtool, you must turn USB debugging ON, and you must selecet your cable connection mode to be "MTP"
Do that if you can turn on the phone and than try to flash ftf via flash tool and tutorial should pop up what to do next.
I tried looking around a bit before returning here, and looking like an idiot once again...
USB Debugging was always on, MTP mode is not selectable - the phone'll be on, I'll connect to PC via USB and I get zero options on how to connect on the phone (no charge only, mount as disk drive etc) - wouldn't be surprised if I deleted a few too many system apps with Titanium Pro and now it doesn't work.
Tried a registry trick with upper registers that I read somewhere, did not apply to me - tried uninstalling problematic drivers that are exclaimation marked in device manager and reinstalling them, no luck - read another thread where a guy was having similar problems (couldn't receive incoming calls), that was solved by a forum member teamviewing/speaking him through it.
Right now I've got Flashtool and the fastboot/flashmode drivers installed, plus the Xperia PLAY ones all from that program, but when I conect the phone it's not recognised as an MTP device, drivers are needed but I'm not sure I'm pointing it towards the right ones anymore, I've been going round in circles!
If that driver^ sounds like the only issue, where can I get it (I'm on XP SP3) and hopefully I'll have it fixed soon.
You are all very patient and wonderful people :good:

Hello,
I got a new Xperia Arc S LT18a yesterday, I turned it on, everything was fine. A few minutes after being connected to the WiFi
I get a message to update my software, I say yes it got out of the android UI and showed some update animation and in the middle
it turned the screen off and that's it.
I tried to start the phone but nothing works, tried all sorts of key combinations, tried hard reset, nothing works the phone will not turn on.
I tried hard reset: back + menu + power button. Phone did not turn on.
The battery is fully charged.
When I press and hold the buttons, e.g. volDown+power the led on the right-hand side (where you plug the usb) flash in green color every second.
I tried flashing some kernels, no effect.
When I go into Emma, the Sony root/boot tool, can't remember, it shows this: (view attached)
Can anyone explain what the problem is and how to fix it please?
Thanks,
Oded

I did that before, forgot to mention. It says my phone already has the latest software. (view attached)
If you have locked bl try this:
Use PC Companion->Check for updates->repair(you will see this in message box).
For unlocked bl, flash stock ROM via flashtool.

Has anyone gone through the process of writing a new SEMCBoot that can help?
First of all, was you phone's bootloader unlocked?
Second, did you run a customized software? (custom rom, kernel, etc.)

I don't know if the bootloader was locked/unlocked when I got it from the factory/store.
I did not use any custom kernel/rom, I just booted the device up when I opened the package, a few minutes later
after connecting to WiFi I saw message about software update, that's when I clicked yes and then things turned bad.
Do you happen to know how to fix this SEMCBoot?
Emma shows that ur bootloader is locked :-/

what is no verification?
your using flashtool right. to flash an ftf file. in the boxes where you choose what part of the ftf you want to flash. there are two un checked boxes one of them asking for verification of flashing
This happened after I flashed a custom Rom, Flashtool won't recognize my device (or even enter recovery/flashmode), even though I have the proper drivers as I know this cause I used Flashtool on this device just yesterday
**Please Check The Third Post For Updates**
UPDATE: FIXED MY DEVICE! HOORAH
FOLLOW MY STEPS BELOW ON THE LAST POST.
Not sure if this is the issue, but everytime I connect my phone to the PC to enter fastboot, it *automatically* disconnects. Same w/ Sony PC Companion.
UPDATE: Can someone please help me?
This is what happens now:
1) Phone Connects w/ GREEN light when using USB + Vol Down
2) Phone Disconnects after a few seconds, meaning I can't use Flashtool or anything else.
3) Phone vibrates three times then turns on into Sony Logo, then turns off and goes back to number 1.
I'd gladly donate money if someone can help me

OK so it appears that WATER was in the device causing the USB to not connect everytime I plug it in, this is what I did
1) Left it in a bag of rice for a few hours (thank god I'm Asian, we have this stuff lying around all the time lol)
2) Got a hairdryer and left it to blow on the Z5's USB port for a few minutes
3) OPTIONAL: Phone was hot so I lodged it in the air-conditioning unit.
4) Charged it for a few hours
5) FLASHTOOL FINALLY RECOGNIZES THE DEVICE!
Hello people of xda,

Please help me
Hello welcome.
Did you try it more than 1 time? (no I'm not mocking you)
Do you have any other USB-Cables to try out with?
Could you try another USB-Port on the computer?
Did you install the Flashtool drivers for your Device?
Maybe you should try out the newest Build 0.9.23.2
@matthias.smet
Welcome to XDA!
Try again with v0.9.18.6, it is more stable but however you should not use the computer for any other purposes when flashtool is preparing the bundles for flasfing.
Hello there.
Im having the exact same problem and am getting crazy searching for a solution.
What i have done so far:
reinstalled flashtool
downgraded to 0.9.23.0
downgraded to 0.9.18.6
redownloaded the .ftf
downloaded another .ftf
tried different packet sizes
tried every usb cable i could find
yes i also rebooted several times, both phone and laptop
right now the device is unusable as i managed to install Resurrection Remix but it failed the gApps (for which i tried everything to fix too) and wifi/data isnt functional , which makes it more or less a brick. And its not even my phone :crying:
at the time of writing i am again reinstalling 0.9.18.6. Hopes are small but who knows.
any other suggestions? every help is highly appreciated.
greetings, enaecore
EDIT: unexpectedly the reinstall of 0.9.18.6 finally worked for me! device is up and running again. i dont understand this, because 0.9.23.1 worked several times before i messed up with RR but well, im lucky i can hand back the phone in a working state, even if its crap stock its better than a custom brick. going back to my reliable bacon and maku now. praised be the pure android experience^^
