hey all, i need some advice on how to fix my girlfriends galaxy s3 (she was on facebook, it starting running slow and then froze mid screen, so turned it off and wouldn't power back up), you can turn it on and it wont load past the first screen, you can turn it off but turns back on, i've tried pressing volume up + home + power, but it does nothing, doesn't react just turns off and back on straight away
i've heard about the samsung jig to reflash the phone
i've downloaded odin and a factory UK based firmware (latest i could find)
can i just plug it in, let it turn on, remove and then turn the phone off and back on and carry on using it like normal? as i don't want to lose her contacts as they wasn't backed to the sim or memory card

Did you try restoring it with Kies?
plug it into the computer, it shows the battery image and then freezes, so have to remove the battery, but im trying to find the odin way to do it, but keys saying it wants modem and a few other things aswell as the pda file, i don't know what files i will need, as im currently downloading the I9300XXUGMK7 from a uk based site
and the instructions from the site aren't very clear as they don't tell you to use modem settings etc
righty, i've managed to get kies to boot up and do a manual install of the factory software, but all it does is download the firmware for the device, but not install it, it freezes at 0% and wont budge
the phone wont go into recovery mode regardless, it will go into odin download mode
the phone when i boot into download mode shows
odin mode
product name:
custom binary download: no
current binary: samsung official
system status: custom
yet if i put my s3 lte into download mode it shows
odin mode
product name: gt-i9305
custom binary download: no
current binary: samsung official
system staus: official
(greyed out) knox warranty void: 0

This is not the correct thread for your model.. I suggest you go into your model's forum for better information.. I think Odin would be the best to try, but I don't know if the i9300 firmware will work with your i9305.. If its not it could cause a brick!

Did you try with "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization." in Kies?
Use Kies or oden to stock

Hi all,
I just trade my old phone for a tmobile gs2, everything was fine until I decided to do a factory reset, now I'm stuck on factory mode with a screen saying
"product name: sgh-t989
custom binary download: no
current binary; samsung official
Downloading...Do not turn off target!!"
What should I do? Help please, thanks in advance.
Hold the power button for 10 seconds.

Hi Alphadog32,
If you can still look at this 3-yo thread, can please help with a variation of this problem?
The same Download mode message came up permanently after I simply rebooted my GS2. It has been running a branch of AOKP 4.4.4 ROM for about four months. It had occasional problems - apps sometimes crash randomly and data mode sometimes goes down to EDGE until a reboot. I rebooted it because it was stuck in EDGE data mode again.
I held it for 10 seconds while the Up/Down Volume buttons. The phone started vibrating constantly both times until I let go, then came up to download mode again. It did not respond to Volume + key.
I also connected to Odin 3.07. Windows says that the last USB device has malfunctioned and Windows cannot recognize it. Hence Odin also does not see the phone on any COM Port. I am plugged with OEM cable.
Since the phone is running a non-Samsung ROM, maybe I need to install USB drivers other than Samsung's to have Odin work?
If so, which ones are correct?
Can you suggest anything else?
(I did the international root version first time. ANY HELP?)
I tried this rooting thing of putting ics on my phone and went into download mode on my Samsung Galaxy s2 from T MOBILE and the write failed on Odin. So I unplugged and restarted my phone and it was stuck at the Upgrade problem encountered on my phone. So I plugged my phone back in again and tried it again and it failed yet again.
I unplugged my phone. Turned it off.
When I turned it back on, or at least tried. It wouldn't. It won't turn on now and is completely blank. It still won't turn on.
I have tried:
Soft reset
Removing battery for ten minutes.
Booting into recovery mode.
NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.
Please help!!!!! This was my first time to root and it went for the worst. This was my christmas present
If you can still get into download mode, you are fine.
Odin CW recovery and flash a compatible rom.
There is no ICS for the T-mobile version of the SGS2.
Look here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311194
[HOWTO] ROOT T-Mobile SGSII via ODIN -- Updated Recovery
Open Odin on your PC.
To get back into download mode pull the battery, insert the battery, press and hold Vol up and Vol down, plug USB cable into phone. Do not press the power button.
ICS is not available for the tmo sg 2 yet so you'll be waiting like everyone else. There are a few Nice ROMs in the dev section though.
If you still can't get into download mode then warranty exchange, jigging, or paperweight are your only options. Good luck.

I have a Samsung W which is not rooted, with Stock Rom as i bought it. Everything was ok until yesterday. I put it in my pocket and the phone was Suddenly turned off. Since then the phone won't turn on except that the screen sometimes flashes when pushing numerous times the power button.
When i press the Vol+ + Center Button + Power Button to enter Recovery mode nothing happens.
I will charge it overnight to see if something changes tomorrow.
Need Help please!
Finally Turned it on, But Samsung Kies and ODIN seem not to working at all. Samsung Kies stacks at "Connectind" & ODIN detecs the phone successfully, but when the phone restarts it won't turn on, i have to remove battery and Open it in Download mode again.
Try to enter download mode press vol down + home+ power button if you can enter download mode flash it with odin

maybe the power button has the problem.
I disassembled the phone and the power button is working fine. I can't enter Dwonload Mode. the phone won't turn on at all :/
Since it is not flashed / rooted & with stock rom, just sent in to a service center, it's the safest thing to do right now i think.
After that you can do with it what you want
Hello! I cant sent it to a service center as it has a big mark on the top of it and they will ask me to pay in order to fix it. I finally Managed to Turn it on in DOWNLOAD MODE. I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467128 this thread with ODIN and Samsung KIES. Samsung KIES stacks at "Connecting". ODIN detects the phone, downloads data , but when the phone restarts is dead. I have to remove battery and turn it on in Downloading Mode

What 'big mark' making it cannot be sent back to Samsung lol? Maybe you should install CWM and do a full wipe first before you flashed the ROM with Odin (anyway sending it back to Samsung will still be the best solution as you may accidentally void the warranty when you are trying to fix it)
Well, i believe for ODIN to work first u have to kill Kies Process using the Task manager or you will get some conflict between the two.
Also, if your phone has a scratch on top of it, then your fine. However, if it has a big DENT or if it is broken somewhere, then they will probably assume it was a problem due to a fall or something. However you can always try and send it to the service center and they will probably sort it out or replace your phone as a last resort (even if it has a scratch on it xD).
Hugs

I'm having the same problem here with my galaxy w.. I cant turn it on at all too

What did you do to get your Galaxy W started?
Hey guys. I have a samsung galaxy S3 SGH-i1747M Running ICS on Bell.
It asked me to do an update today, a full software update (Not jellybean clearly). I accepted it. It automatically turned off saying that it was going to re-boot. It never re-booted. Now it wont even boot. When I try and turn it on, it vibrates, splashes the samsung logo, says "Recovery Boot" in the top left corner, then just gives me a black screen. I cant get into download mode and Kies wont recognize my phone when plugged in. Im pretty stumped on what to do.
If you guys could help me out that would be great.
Thanks

Don't panic simple to recover, what you need to do is flash your ROM manually using ODIN.
1 Of course you need to get ODIN
2 Since you already have kies, it should recognize the phone as soon as you plug in to PC when you get in Download modem you can only tell if it gets recognized in Kies you will see COM PORT number ON (Yello) or Blue
3 download the ROM from Bell...Here: http://samsung-updates.com/get/2569/Samsung_Firmware_SGH-I747M_BMC_I747MVLALH1_Android_4_0_4.html
once all all the files are ready, while phone off get it in Download mode
How to get into Download Mode (For Odin)need to extract the zip
1. Unplug the USB cable.
2. Shut down the phone.
3. Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME DOWN' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the 'VOLUME UP' button to enter Download Mode
Open odin, CHECK ONLY PDA and direct to file (rom) you downloaded (might need to be extracted first)
Plug the phone, which by now should be showing the Download mode screen, WAIT until the computer is done recognizing and installing then Hit start button and wait be patient it might take some time, and the first boot will take a long time...
The above information is solid. However Bell has a 30 day "DOA" policy. So, if by chance you've only had it 29 days, you should rush to the bell store and tell them your newish phone couldn't handle a stock ICS update and they will swap it out. I tried updating mine (stock rom via kies) 5 hours after I bought it and I could never turn it on again... Complete brick. Bell store swapped it out no questions (I did not have the optional insurance).
If your past 30 days... See above post
