Mobile Network Signal dropping - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hey guys, Verizon HTC One running LiquidSmooth and Android 4.4.2, though that's not terribly pertinent. This issue was happening with AOKP, my previous rom.
I gotta doozy for ya: I don't have a signal. So I go into Settings-->More...-->Mobile Networks--> and I change the "Preferred network type" to CDMA+LTE/EVDO. I get a perfect signal (can send calls, texts, 4 bars) until I check "Data enabled" to enable mobile data. The signal then drops to zero bars and the "Preferred Network Type" resets itself to "GSM Only".
imgurcom/NWwOfit is what I see before choosing CDMA+LTE.EVDO
imgurcom/5zaY3XP is after I choose to allow mobile data
imgurcom/xZFoE8G is my APN's after it switches to GSM only
Strangely, the APN's are greyed-out when CDMA+LTE/EVDO is selected for preferred network type.

Roaming 3G

Running CM6, if I switch to forced roaming (Settings>Wireless & network settings>Mobile networks>Affiliated networks), I can only get 1X data. Is there a way to get 3G roaming, other than the "load a Verizon PRL" hack?

[Q] Mobile data is stuck on "G"

I have finally acquired a data plan from my cell provider, and today I set up the APN settings for it. However, whenever I turn off the wifi, I only get the "G" (GPRS) icon in the status bar, with unbelievable slow download/upload speeds.
I just now tried flashing my radio to Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF (Even though I believe I had it before as well), and still I can't get it up to "H" (HSPDA).
I asked a co-worker with a Galaxy S on the same cell provider, and he has HSPDA speed at the same location as I. I also compared his APN settings to mine.
What can cause this error? Should I try flashing a different radio? is the Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M or Radio_12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2 better in any way? Are they stable? Is this even the cause of my problem?
Moved to here
Go onto the dialer. Type in *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information. Scroll down to the bottom and change 'Set preferred network type:' to 'GSM Auto (PRL)'.
Also, this is the wrong section.
This is not the place to post questions.
There is a QA section here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=885
Try **#4636#*#* and select GSM auto prl

WCDMA preferred?

How can you set the Defy to WCDMA Preferred? It constantly reverts off of it.

You mean in the INFO menu? I don't believe you can. At least not with the stock ROM. I believe the choice is controlled by the firmware which varies from market to market, I presume.
That's the same as 3G only? Mine has the option under the mobile network settings. I get three choices (this is exactly how it reads): 2G only saves battery, 3G only better performance, and Automatic Default. Hm you should have the same thing.
In my handset, if you go into Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile networks, there is an option/drop-down box for Select network.
It gives you a choice between 2G only, 3G only and Automatic which is the default option and the only sensible one IMO.
edit: same as bobbyphoenix it seems.
Selecting 3G only means the phone will not use the 2G network ever, so if you were to end up in an area without 3G signal, you'd be disconnected.
Automatic means the phone will use 3G when available and 2G when it's not. As I said before, it's the only sensible choice.

That doesn't answer the question. There are two settings within the testing menu: wcdma preferred and gsm auto prl. The former tries to hang onto 3G whenever possible, where the latter uses an internal list of networks and it decides when to switch.

Yes it does.
Automatic means the handset will use 3G whenever possible - ie 3G preferred.
No - they are two different things, as I explained. The Defy is using GSM PRL, NOT WCDMA Preferred.

When my phone uses wifi calling with wifi preferred (in the wifi calling menu) the INFO (testing) menu shows "GSM only". This choice will not allow 3G connection (2G, yes). When I turn off wifi, the phone switches to "GSM auto (prl)" and I get 3G. I read on one forum where someone claims they switched to "WCDMA preferred" then did a battery pull and it stuck. Also read that the WCDMA selection depletes battery faster. Hey, don't always believe what you read.

Automatically switch between LTE and 3G

Is there a method to switch to 3G when I'm in certain area? My work has fairly weak LTE signal and my phone is constantly switching between 3G and LTE. I would like to set it so that when I'm at work, the phone will use 3G only and LTE everywhere else. I tried checking tasked but I just can't figure out how.
Thanks
Settings -> connections -> more networks >- mobile networks -> network mode... select what you want there.

[Bug] Lost network after toggling 'mobile networks' in Quick Settings

TL;DR Toggled networks, lost connection. Mobile Networks options changed. Toggled again and things reverted back.
NEXUS 5 - 4.4.4 PA-HAMMERHEAD 4.5-BETA2
Toggled between mobile networks using the quick settings and suddenly my handset lost connection to the towers.
I updated via OTA to PA-HAMMERHEAD 4.6-BETA1 and then thought possibly it was an issue with the modem.
Then downgraded modem to M8974A-2.0.50.1.13.
No connections still.. then noticed on drive home from work - 1 small bar of LTE (typically I have full LTE in this area and full voice).
This morning, same situation, and I contacted T-Mobile and they attempt to reconnect my device to the network.
What was interesting was that the settings options for Mobile Networks changed. Initially when the tech asked me to navigate to Settings > More > Mobile Networks the options displayed were LTE, 3G, 1X, GLOBAL and he sounded very confused. The settings would not allow me to toggle from LTE - except for one moment where a 3G network connection went through and my radio came back to life. Then was instructed to toggle back to LTE and it went dead again. At this point the options changed to LTE, 3G, 2G and once I toggled from 2G to LTE, things appear to be back to normal.
I've read that there have been some issues with the Nexus 5 in relation to this toggle and just wanted to share.
Same issue here, i tested every modem and few kernels so it's ROM related.
