[Q] Cell Reception loss - Paranoid Android Q&A

i looked in the PA forums, and i couldn't find any info...
when i install any version of PA on my Nexus 5, i constantly lose cell reception ....
does anyone else have this problem ?
this especially happens when i have the phone set for LTE... but this also happens when i force it to 3G
( i know that the cell antenna on the Nexus 5 isn't great )
i also have this problem with flashing any ROM...so i end up having to run stock 4.4.2 to have good/great cell service
my Nexus 5 is running on the Rogers network in Canada and was purchased through Google, so it's unlocked
can anyone help... i love the look and feel of PA , but losing cell service is not an option.
thanks

Do a quick google search, you'll need to find the specific APNs for your carrier.
Settings - More - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names

i figured it out by doing a bit of hunting... it is all good..
i finally get to enjoy PA on my Nexus 5...
thanks for all your help

[Q] phone unable to connect to mobile network

hello everyone,
I have my GSM galaxy nexus running aokp_maguro_milestone4 , 3.0.8franco kernel and xxkl1 radio baseband. I used to have no problems with my phone at all until I went on vacation to Spain (I live in Germany) in Spain I had signal but ever since I came back my phone has almost (in the time span of 48 hour it had maybe 1 hour of signal) constantly no signal from my mobile provider (BASE). I have tried reflashing the radio ( I had xxkl2 so I reflashed that and then flashed xxkl1), I have also tried turning phone off and on and leaving it 1 night without battery. any help??
thanks
Check your APN settings, if they are correct try to make a new APN profile from scratch.
checked apn and they were OK. made a new apn with values I found online and still no luck? should I maybe just restore everything to default and flash the stock from?

APN settings are only for data. They do not impact signal.
Go to Settings->More->Mobile network settings->Network operators and either select "Select automatically", or pick one from the list.
Just a suggestion but maybe a whole different updated ROM flash might do the trick

Like using a sledgehammer to kill an ant! That should work as well.
Lmao I know but sometimes its just what's up. He didn't mention the ROM he's using. If he's that worried about this then its definitely worth a try. Like I said, just a suggestion. No need to slay ants over it

Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
Hi guys,
So I am still having this problem, but an interesting thing happened. I decided to stick the sim card of my gf (she uses another carrier which supposedly uses the same infrastructure as my carrier) and I had full coverage. After that I changed the sim again and had coverage on my line, but after a couple of hours of bad coverage it just never found signal again.
So what on earth could possibly be wrong and what can I do to solve this problem?
I would consider a new ROM, but this doesnt seem to be the problem.

Maybe you should contact your carrier and get a new SIM or check if there is any known problems in your area.

AT&T 3G/HSPA not working after Jelly Bean OTA

hi guys,
I have been a lurker for a while, didn't actually have anything meaningful to contribute (to create a new post/thread), i.e. until now!
Bought a galaxy nexus in April when Google started selling it on the Play store. I did not root it and/or modify it in anyway other than trying out a few apps I developed.
Given that background, 3G/HSPA data has not been working on the phone ever since I got and installed the Jelly Bean OTA update.
I thought I also had the Wifi issues that others are facing, but it turned out to be just a setting (Keep WiFi ON during sleep was set to NEVER by the JellyBean update, am pretty sure I didn't do it).
Do you guys have any clue as to what might be happening here? Any troubleshooting tips?
I am on the AT&T prepaid, data was fine until the JellyBean update. My friend with galaxy nexus also started having this problem post the OTA update, but he is AT&T post paid.
any insights???
thank you!
EDIT:
Also, I forgot to mention in my initial post ..
I get good signals and 3G or H also shows up next to the signal bars, but they are in grey.

is there anything specific to look for in the APN settings? I never fiddled with it, so I have no clue as to what to look for etc.
Also, I forgot to mention in my initial post ..

I'm having this same problem to since upgrading to Jellybean... Have you called AT&T ? I'm furious as of now with them .I purchased a 50 dollar refill and they said it just doesn't work with a 4g phone and many different excuses was fine before updating.. I did notice it says Cingular in Apn now wich it didn't before..Have you found a solution yet..???

I didn't call AT&T because I know thats exactly how they are going to reply. If you didn't know it before, AT&T claims the $50 unlimited talk/text/web is unlimited web only for dumb phones but for smartphones you`ll need a separate data top-up. However, I have been using 3G with the same SIM card from November 2011. I had a Nokia N95 till April and then bought the galaxy nexus.....I didn't add the data top-up.
So at first when I started having this problem I thought AT&T finally started blocking 3G on the nexus, but later found out that my friend who is also on AT&T but on a post paid contract also has this same problem from the day he got JB OTA.
Unfortunately, I never went to Phone Information settings until after I got the JB update, so I do not know how it was before the OTA. .

No 3G data on my new SGS3

So I got a new SGS3 and it works fine, except when I am in 3G. When I am in 3G I can receive and place calls but no data. Att support was no help, so I figured I would check here. As far as I can tell it is either a APN, Gateway, or Account settings issue (the later being something I can not do anything about). I say this because my n1 gets signal fine here, and it seems to run fine, so long as it is 4g.
Any ideas? Also, does the SGS3 have EDGE support?

Bump: And also I tried to set an old APN but that didn't help.
Have you rooted and flashed it or are you stock? If you are just stock...there is nothing this forum can do to help really.

I have not rooted or anything, I have tried some APNs but I was hoping other people might help me out with something else to try. I don't really buy the whole " if you are stock... there is nothing that can be done" What if I was trying to get help with a stock developer build of my n1 (which I have previously) or are you asserting that without rooting I will not be able to fiddle with the modem settings?
What I'm saying is the phone comes ready out of the box. Unless you have changed something then it is a network problem. You will have to take it up with AT&T.
U can only do so much stock....and thats not alot! Root and use stock rom so u will have root access to see whats what...and to be able to control what u do or dont want ur data to do

Thank you guys for trying to help but I know all this. I am just in the period of time I can take it back and I don't want to risk that by bricking it while monkeying around.
I (Maybe) have isolated the problem, they said that I was set up for LTE and there are some issues with proper propagation of properties. Anyway problem "May" only effect people on ATT with Samsung S3s bought at BestBuy locations and the upgrade includes unlimited data. Still working will update tonight....
BUMP!

Does/will LTE and other Rogers services such as calling work with Cyanogenmod 10?

Hello, and before you read this, yes I am a noob, with very little experience in ROMs and rooting.
I am doing extensive research before I flash Cyanogenmod 10 on my Galaxy S3, because the last time I tried, I screwed everything up and bricked my phone (trying to unlock the bootloader, which was the stupidest 700 dollar desision I Have ever made.)
I was wondering if LTE, texting and everything else on my plan will all work.
Thanks,
Edwin

Yes it does work.
Using it right now.
Basically when you install CM10 ,,.set the correct apn
then after with *#*#4636#*#*
then pick phone and choose LTE/GSM auto (prl)
then after in mobile networks choose LTE
Hope that helps

You no longer have to use *#*#4636#*#*. Just choose gsm/lte under settings.

[Q] Data applications don't work on anything but H+/4g

I have a S3 i747 in canada on koodo (telus towers) and recently i have been in areas with poor 4g reception and am on 3G for the most part. i have noticed that none of my applications which use mobile data function on 3G though, i have looked around and found a few posts relating to DNS issues but it seems to be more in general data not working and doesn't seem to apply. I have my phone set to LTD/GSM/WCDMA and the APN is set propperly from koodo, pulled off their website. Any help appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT: I should note i am running Paranoid Androind 3.6 but have also noticed this issue on CM and Carbon

flash a stock type rom and see if it helps. I'd do that before consulting the carrier. I doubt they would cut you off from earlier generation speeds
