[Q] Transfer Settings - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

NOOB question.
Is there an easy way to transfer my phone settings to my wife's phone?
I want her to try a new Rom and I have mine set up pretty good.
Thanks, Randy

If both are EXACTLY the same (make, model, carrier) then use NANDROID backup to make a copy of both devices. Then, ODIN hers with your backup. If she doesn' like it then just ODIN hers with her backup.

Yep, they are both the same so I will give it a try and see if she likes it.
Thanks for the help

And make sure she's not taken the 4.3 OTA, otherwise trying to flash a custom recovery won't work. And if she has, DO NOT try to downgrade her firmware. If you're not familiar with why, read all about that all over the place in the threads about the 4.3 update.
Good luck!

[Q] Do I need to flash back to stuck before sending back the device to tmobile?

I'm exchanging my phone for a new one. I should send back my current phone after I receive the new one.
Do I need to flash back to stock ROM before sending back the device to tmo? It is rooted and is on Darkside ICS.
P.S. If so, is there anyway to do it over Mac or through the phone itself since I don't have access to PC?

Yes yes yes yes
U should have done a nandroid of your stock -pre-rooted phone before you flashed superuser. If you did as u were suppose to then all u have to do is restore that backup and ull be fine back to stock. U Also have to flash stock recovery I think....in which case u need a PC and Odin.... as far as I know....I'm sure someone knows a better way that may better fit ur needs.
Also, there is a counter that ticks every time u flash. Mr. X, I believe had a post on how to reset that counter so that tmo doesn't see that u have altered ur phone. I'm not, however, sure how important that is to do.
Good luck

I really appreciate your reply.
I was on Ginger bread before ICS and I'm almost certain that my nandroid backup is from that ROM
I'm worried now! Assuming I can get access to PC somehow, would I have all the required tools to make my device good enough to return?

It doesn't matter whether ur on ics now or not....flashing ur nandroid backup will bring u back to unrooted stock regardless of where u are now. And yes....if u get access to a computer....and download odin and ur drivers...your set....
Do some research on the kernel counter thing I mentioned....a quick search should bring it up. U may or may not need it.
Search Mr.X counter
I don't know if I'm being difficult to understand. Feel free to ask questions.

Thanks again for quick reply.
That's good to know. I though that Nandroid, backs up the current rom of the phone, so since I did it when I was on GB to upgrade to ICS, currently there is a GB backup on my phone. So it is the stock ROM... good.
Ok. I'll probably will restore the nandroid tonight to see what happens. and will sure look for Mr.X. Thank you so much!
Oh, btw, how about radio? do I need to do something about that or it restores back to default by nandroid restore?

Yeah your nandroid will restore back to the exact state it was in when u made the backup....therefore you'll be back on gb and not on ics. Which doesn't matter if ur returning the phone.
Your radio will be restored as well with the nandroid

Oh, the problem is that my previous GB was a custom ROM and I made a nandroid backup on that... oh...
So summary:
1. Look up Mr.X counter thingie and figure out if u need it and if u do all the instructions will be there.
2. Restore nandroid to stock
3. Odin stock recovery.tar using PC. If u don't have the stock recovery a quick search should get it for u as well.

Yes, I should try my best than to be sorry. I hope someone can help me with this quickly. Because I have 7 days to return the device and have a hard time accessing PC...
I really appreciate your support bzlik88!
You will need access to a PC to use Odin to flash back to stock. Once you get a computer, it shouldn't take more than an hour and there are plenty of threads here to help you figure that out.
I don't know anything about resetting the flash counter. Depending on WHY your sending your phone back, it may not matter.
I filed an insurance claim on mine after it got a crack in the side. Even went in to the store, played dumb, told them it wasn't working right, and they sent it back for me.
At every step of the way when you talk to someone at Tmobile, don't give them any indication that you know anything about "flashing".

[Q] Things that could go wrong.

So I've been thinking about flashing Paranoid Android 3.6, mostly because of halo and 4.2.2.
What's kept me from root+custom rom for so long is the possibility of a brick, or requiring the warranty and being unable to revert to stock
Had the phone for 6 months now, the longest I've stayed on an official rom on any phone I've had, with the impending release of 4.2.2 in the near future, i'm not sure if now's a good time to root. (Decisions, decisions)
Apart from dropping the phone and have the screen shatter, what could go wrong? Eg. Bricks, sds somehow?
I'm hoping to get a list of things that could go wrong, and the way to get something to go wrong.
Purely so I could avoid just that :good:
Cheers.

There is a best toolkit available for rooting and installing Cwm which u can use and will not create any issue out of it
Since note 2 is quite a old and most of the issue which occurs are solved by some or the other user
I would suggest take a proper EFS backup have a nandroid backup safe somewhere on pc etc after rooting and cwm
And after that enjoy flashing ROMS u like the way u want
Most of the thread has a guide to use / install so u won't have any issue I guess
Just follow the guide and u ll just be fine
All the best

Bangalore ftw, thanks!
What's the toolkit called?
Could I just follow step 2 onthis page ? It's similar to what I've done on my old phone.
Still a bit jittery, if I follow the guide to the letter, what are the chances of a brick?

The most important thing to do before flashing any rom is to create a backup of the EFS partition. I cannot stress it enough how many threads I keep seeing with people crying about losing their imei number and unable to retrieve them. Very important!
Besides that, don't use any rom released before 4.2.1 to minimize the risk of SDS. There's always a risk with rooting and flashing unofficial rom, however, only thing you can do is minimize the risk as much as possible. Good luck.

That is a risk associated with flashing the rom not the recovery. I have never lost my imei from flashing recovery, it usually happens after flashing a custom rom. Fortunately I always have a permanent spot on my PC for my phone EFS backup.

This is a frequent occurrence? In the event that it gets wiped, is restoring the EFS a sure thing, it is there a possibility it won't restore?

Also, if i needed to restore a nandroid backup, would I need to flash a stock kernel? Or just a restore?
Edit- I just read the Mobile Odin thread, and saw "While in theory Mobile ODIN can repartition and flash EFS and bootloaders, it will cowardly refuse to do so, for your own safety."
So, is mobile odin better than flashing from recovery?
Sorry for the pestering, after 5 years on these forums from my iMate days, i'd be expected to be less of a frightened noob when it comes to a new phone

Ok so you download DittoNote3 for GT-N7105 and Mj5 boot loader, flash the rom using custom recovery and see if the wifi works, and if it doesn't work (most likely) just flash the Mj5 bootloader through odin, then if you wanna flash a kernel, download the desired one and flash it using custom recovery, before doing all those stuff, make sure that you backed up your efs and your custom recovery back up.

No. I have pictures and music and all SD card contents dating back to the time I bought the phone and I used Odin last week to return to stock.

No, but you may need to factory reset, which would delete all the files in your device..
There are possible ways trying to get around this, but its safer to just back up your important files in case something unexpected happens

Hmm.. Ok try flashing firmware with Odin, if that doesn't fix it then flash twrp recovery and reboot to recovery, after that do a factory reset within twrp.. This will perform a factory reset without wiping user files.. Reboot and it should boot up

What firmware version did you try to flash? If it was ever updated to 4.3 you can only ever flash the same or newer firmware again. So if it had been updated to NC2 before, you can only flash NC2 firmware. (Latest version). If this doesn't apply, you might want to try reinstalling drivers. Also, only use Odin v3.07 or 3.09.
You can try to odin flash twrp recovery though, then make a nandroid backup to be safe. It also has a built in file manager and you can use it to copy the picture folder from internal to external sd card.

Yes, you can flash a custom recovery without root. Its actually the original root method if I'm not mistaken. (Flash recovery, then from that recovery flash the SuperSU update zip. )
Since youre using the latest firmware, we know that's not the cause at least.
Few other things that are known to cause Odin to fail...
Make sure you are using the correct firmware for the device. (Make sure if its a T999, T999L, T999N, T999V and use the corresponding firmware)
If kies is on your computer, uninstall it
Try different usb cables, yes they quite often do go bad.
Try every usb port on your computer. I've seen more than a few people find it only worked on one usb port! No idea why...
Try different driver versions. Make sure you uninstall through device manager. Drivers are in my sig.
If all else fails, try a different computer if possible.
If I think of anything else ill add it.

If any of you have backup file uploaded somewhere pls send me link to download it. Ty in advance
Nobody is going to do this, and if they do they're stupid. A backup contains personal data. If you need your stock rom go to sammobile.com or look in my sig.

why not? there is a lot of backups here on XDA and even for N9005 but no for N900T. All ppl here reinstall their phones every day and everyone can make backup after clean install without personal data. I just need backup to fix rotation cause I cant fix it with stock 5.0 via Odin.
