[Q] microsd card slot too deep? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi folks,
I bought a 2014 note 10.1 and the unit itself seems to work great... except for the sd card. At first I thought it was a formatting issue, and after trying to format it on my computer using FATand exFAT and still the unit wouldn't recognize the card. So, even though the card worked on both my Samsung phone and computer, I went and bought a new card, avoiding some of the ones that have been noted as problematic on these forums (thanks for that help btw!) Still the same problem... except I noticed the card would be mounted for a split second before unmounting. If I push on the card, with the stylus for example, down to the bottom of the slot, it mounts. Let go, even with the for closed, it won't stay mounted. Thinking it was just a weird defect, I exchanged the unit at best buy... and this new unit has the same issue! I'm just wondering how wide spread this is and if somehow my local bb just got a bad batch? Have people figured out someway to fix this issue? The sd card is pretty important to me.

Are you sure the SD card is being pushed all the way down till it clicks???

I agree. It can't be pushed all the way in. I do not see this issue with mine.

You have to be very careful putting the sdcard in. If you pushed it in too hard and on a angle it can get stuck up under the case and destroy the slot.
I push mine in slowly with my finger until I hear it click. Maybe that chip is fried.

Galaxy S3 Won't recognize any sd cards

Not sure if this is common or not but I have tried everything I can think of, and I don't see anything.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 (brand new, stock build) but everytime I put in an sdcard The settings>storage still says I need to insert it.
I have resigned myself to it being a hardware issue, but I would really like a more pragmatic response
WTF man after 4 years I break with my n1 for this?!?!?!

if your ever doubt I ran into the same problem but the blowing it like a Nintendo cartridge didn't work so if you have a micro sd card reader on your computer use and format the Micro SD to exfat from fat32 this seems to fix the problems 9 times out of 10

I came here looking for answer to this issue and laughed before blowing in the slot fixed problem. Now why didn't I think of that?
Got a pre used Galaxy Appolo 15800 and it will not read from sd card. It knows the card is there but will not mount/unmount or format.
Went to shop and tried other cards but still the same.
I am told the phone was on contract to 3 network and althought it has been unlocked the shop man wondered if there was a feature set into the phone by 3 so that reader doesnt work when the phone is unlocked form their network.
along the lines of blowing into the slot, I cut a strip from an old credit card and wiggled it about inside..
Bingo........ all systems go!!!!!!

I simply cannot believe this!!... I searched and read countless XDA, AndroidCe*tral forums and tech (C-NET) blog entries just to find countless posts of failing/corrupted SanDisk 32GB Ultra cards (as mine) inside S3's guts. No other card was working either and was resigning to reflash stock ROM and take it so tech support.
An additional search try and came to this post... And still cannot believe a simple (but powerful) blow inside the SD card slot actually solved the problem!! Thanks man! You saved my day (and my S3, my SD card and a week using a crap replacement phone)! :good:

Hi all, I had the same issue and unbelievable, the nintendo method works quite well !!!
In fact if we put the sd card at the top of the slot and keeping it pushed, we can see the phone detect the sd card! so a little poke and then it's fine ^^
Holy Crap it worked!!!

This worked for me as well! I had blown on it a little last night and after reformatting and flashing various roms thinking perhaps that may of been the issue....it was indeed microscopic dust in the slot. Holy MOLY!!! This time, I blew in it like a mad man and sure enough, my phone is reading my 64gb card once again! Thanks everyone!!

After an hour of searching every forum for ways to fix the same problem, I arrived here, with little hope of anything more than I had already found. I thought that it was funny, what you said. Then I said: "Meh, **** it. Let's give it a try."
It works. You are God.
*P.S. I use this website frequently to find fixes and updates, but I never really registered. Just so you understand how grateful I am for this. I know, I could have registered for an array of different reasons, but I want you to know that the reason I did it now is to thank you. For the fix and the laugh!
blowing doesn't work for me. formatting to exfat does.
thank god.

EDIT: Just tried the SD card in my pc and it does get recognized.
Strange
Not sure if this helps. I had an issue with my galaxy s2 where it didn't read my sdcard unless I firmly pressed down on the battery cover. Turns out that it was a hardware issue with the reader not making enough contact with the card. Swapped for a new device at the store before my 14 days ended.
Thanks for the reply. Oddly, the card does not work at all. Tried it in my PC with an adapter and no go. Going to swap it out. Thanks!
Try a few different adapters
I have around 7 adapters and only 2 work
Also format it to fat32

Yes, it's been happening to me too when unlocking the phone (and seemingly more recently over the last week).
Using a Sandisk Ultra card and on the standard 4.1.1 ROM.
Let me guess, you are all using sandisk ultra cards? These cards appear to be a real pain in the a s s . Mine, (bought new off Amazon in October) went tits up and I believe it was the card that somehow caused corrupted files and caused my "media" process to be a complete battery hog.
About a week before the card totally failed to be recognized by my computer or my phone, I got those random messages about my sd card being unmounted and then it would just automatically scan it as if I had just inserted it when in reality I never took it out. I was able to copy everything to my computer about an hour before it was complete toast
I suggest you copy any important files on the card to your computer or wherever before it completely fails. I don't know what to do about getting a new card. I already filed a warranty claim with Sandisk but I am hesitant to use their brand again. Sandisk seems to be THE brand out there. I would like to try another brand.

You explained well.... same sad story!!!
im using transcend 32 gb its work fine in my note but its not work properly in note 2
My views on this issue
I have started facing this issue since the past 3-4 days and here are my views that can also serve as valuable information for everyone else:
- This error message started to appear only after I upgraded to android 4.1.2 by flashing the stock rom via odin.
- Im also using the SanDisk Ultra Class 10 32GB card
- I have not rooted my phone after upgrade and my phone is in fully stock condition, although it was rooted before.
- I dropped my phone once. But it was a very minor drop and everything was fine after the drop as it was on 4.1.1 at that time and i was on the same for further 10-15 days and never witnessed the error during these days..
These things should also be considered-
- The method of copying data from PC to phone. I use data cable and copy to the folders while the card is in the phone.
- Whether you remove the card without unmounting it.
I have tried formatting the card from windows using fat32 setting. It didnt help.
Formatted it with the phone and still saw the error once in the past 24hours..
In future, if I encounter the same problem, I might get the card replaced by visiting the sandisk service center here in India. Or, I can try flashing 4.1.1 again and revert back the result. As of now, everything seems to be fine as I have not seen the error for about a day or so.. (Fingers crossed)

[Q] Sd Card Not Working

Ok i have searched the the forum and none seem to directly apply to my issue so ill post this and hope its not a repost. I have the 2014 edition and i picked up my tablet off the table yesterday and noticed some icons greyed out. I went into settings/storage and noticed the sd was not mounted which was odd so i clicked mount and nothing happened and i realized it said insert sd. I took the card out and put the card from my phone in and it didnt recognize that one either. I put the card from the tablet in my phone and it worked instantly. I have formatted the tablet installed the stock rom, installed cleanrom. Nothing seems to work. Obviously my warranty is void and as i can find no apparent way to untrip the knox counter (go to hell samsung with that stupid efuse crap) anyone have any other ideas to repair this thing. It has no been dropped or anything that i can recall nor water or anything of that nature it just decide to stop working i imagine. thanks in advance.

I have had three (name brand) go bad in the last 10 months or so. I now always get the replacement warranty with each one. The last one just before I got the Note was the first replaced by the warranty. Well worth the 4.99 for a year of replacement.

There are other postings in the G-Note 2014 section that have reported the same issue.

In almost all the cases it is NOT the tablet but the card.
Even if the card works in a phone but not your tablet does not mean that your tablet is defective.
I have a few questions for you that will help us to help you.
What brand is the card?
What class is the card?
Did you purchase it from a local retailer or Ebay?
Was it sold to you bulk or in a genuine retail package?
How old is the card?
What file system is the card formatted as?
Have you tried another card in your tablet?
.

I see...... You made this determination just because it works in your phone and not in the tablet or do you have a second SD card that you tested in the tablet and it did not work as well?

Actually i tested 3 different sd cards in a 32 gb an 8gb and a 2gb none of them worked but all worked in my samsung galaxy s3 and in my card reader in my laptop which says to me that it is the tablet itself not the sd cards
Just something I would do is flash stock rom with Odin and start over and see if that helps if you can't return it.Do you have jellybean or kit kat on it? I saw with a post so where and they were saying kit kat won't read the external ad cards.

Micro SD Card corrupted? [write protected]

Hi folks of XDA! I am in a bit of a pickle right now with my micro SD card that I purchased a while back from ADATA.
Long story short, I purchased a 64GB micro SD card from ADATA due to my needs of a little more storage than what this phone offered. I ended up using the micro SD card as adoptable storage as I wanted to be able to use both my internal and micro SD card for 'everything'. It worked great until the night before I was suppose to go on a cruise: music wasn't being downloaded as it said it had insufficient storage space, and I couldn't take pictures with the camera app because it couldn't find the storage. I got frustrated as it was showing I had over half of the storage available on my SD card and I just did not have time to meddle with this problem; it was late at night and I simply needed my phone for taking pictures & videos & music.
I ended up doing a 'no no' and ripped the micro SD card out of my HTC One M9 without formatting or anything (literally just popped it out of my phone), restarted the phone, and surprisingly nothing was corrupted; everything on my phone was still working. But not surprisingly, the micro SD card got a little weird where when I put it back into my phone, it did not recognize it and my phone wanted me to format the micro SD card. Fair enough. I did that and it said it could not be formatted ("Volume partition disk: 179,32 public' failed..."). Fair enough.
I went onto my Windows 10 PC, slotted my micro SD card into the adapter that it came with, slid the little notch away from the 'lock' on the adapter, and my computer says it needs formatting. I try formatting it but all it keeps saying is that it's 'write protected'.
I slid the notch on the adapter to the lock, and away, as well as kept it in the middle; nothing helped, it kept saying it was write protected no matter which part it was on.
I tried using scotch tape to cover it as some people on the internet found it to work when their slid mechanism broke. Still did not work.
Tried using another adapter, and it still said it's write protected.
Resorted to using the DiskPart technique via CMD; everything shows up, the micro SD card status is online and disk 1, 58GB, 0 free space.
Tried going further into the steps (i.e. "attribute disk clear readonly" & another way, "select partition"), and it says it could not be recognized due to fatal error of hardware.
Would anyone happen to be in this situation before and was able to get their micro SD card fixed or knows a fix for me? I'll be happy to give you more in-depth detail if needed. Thank you!
Moomoomania
Did you figure it out? I've had similar issue. I had to insert and remove multiple times until my PC recognized it... I think when I booked to Linux it worked though.
That sounds to me like the SD card is toast. I think it's built into the cards themselves that if the controller is going, it goes into read-only mode so that you can get your data off of it. I had an SD card bite it the first day I owned it a few years ago in a camera. I would use either a Linux VirtualBox or Linux Live Disc to copy your data to your computer and buy a new card.

Fortunately everything important like photos were already backed up into the cloud and my micro SD card has life time warranty so I guess I'll have to end up using it. AHHH cost of shipping & time from my impatience with removing the micro SD card. My hunch is that the encryption that occurred when I used the micro SD card as an adoptable storage may have ultimately screwed it up... ://
If anyone have any clues to how to fix the problem or would like me to try things with it, feel free to post a reply

I've tried using Linux but it's not working.
I'm having Two SD-cards collecting the dust as yours .
Please reply if you find any solution for revering those adoptable sd-cards back to working.
Thank U....
The nature of solid state memory is that any errors causes a complete failure. You will never recover the sd card. Return it to the manufacturer for a replacement.

I'm having Two SD-cards collecting the dust as yours .
Please reply if you find any solution for revering those adoptable sd-cards back to working.
Thank U....

Hey! Sorry for the late reply (school exams) but mine is still collecting dust and will be probably forever. For the price that I've paid (~$30), it's not worth to replace and it's better if I just purchased a new SD card. Time + effort to get a new one is far too great for me to care about getting a replacement.

But even after sdcard replacement if you use same rom in your device then the new one is also going be damaged

Oh I see. Fortunately for me right now, I am not using a custom ROM. I've been sticking to stock HTC and will proceed to do so until HTC stops giving out updates. I am not quite sure what you could do except try to manage with the 32GB like me by deleting all unnecessary apps, putting all your photos and videos into Google photo, and caching music that you find yourself listening to the most these days. So far it has been working well for me to the point where I don't find it necessary to have an SD card anymore! Perhaps it's a different case for you.
